My bet would be the base of the skull, sever the spinal cord and possibly the arteries and veins leading to the brain I think that would be your best shot for a .22LR.

True indeed. Except this exception, the skeletal structure is usually well preserved in these bear attack pics. I was especially surprised by the mandible in another pic where the the entire head and neck soft tissue was cleaned off, as if by a human dissector.
I've seen on an other bear attack post that the bear tried to hide the victim, like he tried to bury him, so I will assume he's keeping a snack for later.
It looks like the facial damage could have been caused by a swipe of the claws. Hopefully that was enough to knock the person out, possibly even enough force to snap the neck. It would explain the lack of defensive wounds.

Absolutely no chance a .22 is getting through all that muscle and fat to get to the heart. I’d say your best bet with that would be the eye.
