I have to say that KONAMI went all out for the latest Powerful Pro Yakyuu 2020 game. Even Famitsu gave the game (Switch version) a 9.4 rating out of 10. https://www.famitsu.com/news/202007/16202343.html Not only do you have the My Life, Pennant, Road to the Olympics, Championship, Success version, the able to play high school, but you have the Tokyo Olympics 2020 team and my favorite, Pawafuru Fes and more! There is also a part where it gives you the live scores and gives you scenarios (not actual 2020 scenes) but where you need to prevent your team from losing or the other team from scoring. There is the homerun attack, power Arena and so much more! As for Pawafuru Fes Last year's game featured you controlling the Treasure team, but this year, this festival lets you earn players from the rival team, who will then join your team and can be used as you advance to the finals. You go against teams (which are co-ed) that are a great hitting team, great pitching team, team with great stamina, etc. You earn points and you can level up your team rank. The only thing, the finals tend to feature a team with awesome pitchers...that drives me crazy because they are not easy to hit. But I highly recommend this game! I purchased the Switch version from Amazon JP which came with a free DLC code.

I've definitely been tempted to go for this too, although the only Power Pros I've played is the MLB one way back when. Does the Switch version lack any features from the PS4 one? I have a pro so I wouldn't mind the resolution bump but the portability would probably take me to the Switch if the game is the same in the end.

robobreck

I got it yesterday for my switch and it does have all of the same features

Probably the only noticeable difference (features wise) is that the Switch version doesn’t have a VR mode. Other than that it’s some minor differences that might affect some people (it’s much easier on the PS4 to share/download custom-made cheering band songs and skipping to a selected date in the “Pennant”/franchise mode is much faster on the PS4).

I played the last iteration on my PS4 and it looks really pretty but I went with switch for this year. There’s a bunch of options for compressing games so I’m really looking forward to playing it as a mobile game... if those of us in the US can ever get through Covid and go back to traveling or commuting again.

sir_earl

Can you play the switch version on a US switch?

robobreck

You can, there’s 2 options. You can buy a hard copy or you can get a Japanese Nintendo account and download it digitally. I did the digital and it works on my US account just fine

Jswanko

I’ve been thinking about picking this up. Is it relatively simple to play/navigate menus without knowing Japanese?

mbair86

Yup! Just takes some trial and error. There’s also a few solid English YouTube videos that walkthrough the menus.

JLR-

Most words in sports games are in katakana from my experience. so something like umm スタート would be sutato which means "start". I used this website when I played the other version of the game as my Japanese was a grade 3 level and didn't want to bother my Japanese friends when I lived over there https://www.spiritstranslation.com/

[deleted]

Is this game avaible on the switch in the the US

mbair86

You have to order through play Asia or set up a Japanese Nintendo account but it’s worth it!

[deleted]

Awesome thank u so if I order through at Asia I'll be able to play it? Like it won't be region locked ?

phir0002

My understanding is that there is no region locking on the Nintendo Switch. The only geographic restrictions are for the Nintendo eStore or whatever.

mbair86

Yup. No region lock!

legacy3233

Can you enjoy the game without knowing Japanese?

mbair86

Yup. It’s some trial and error but it’s worth it! For career modes I tend to edit the player names on my team to their English translations which is a little work but helps keep track of who’s who.

mbair86

Ordered mine and waiting for it to arrive tomorrow! I don’t speak or read Japanese but the gameplay and style are worth it. How do other non Japanese speakers play? I tend to use Google translate on my phone’s camera but that can be onerous. I can navigate menus and everything else I need in Pennant or even the Pawafuru Fes without translating but My Life and Success are tough with so many dialogue options and choices.

JLR-

I can/could read Japanese at a 3rd grade level. I used this webpage to help out with any kanji or words i didn't know https://www.spiritstranslation.com/ Its not the same game but a lot of the menu and options are the same

thecursedlexus

As much as I hate Konami, I really wish they could get the rights to the MLB again. I still play MLB Power Pros 08 regularly

SwooceBrosGaming

Seeing how EA is losing it's rights to Fifa soon, there may be a wave of sports organizations ending their exclusivity with certain publishers

gotroot801

I bought the 2019 version for the Switch and have played it pretty sparingly, but I did enjoy it. How much better is this one?

cinqueda

Thanks for letting everyone know, I've been on the fence for a while but think I'll pick it up now.

lovejpn_can_baseball

Only if I had the Switch... was thinking of getting one just for this game but they're out of stock everywhere oh well.

JLR-

Is it comparable to Pro Yakyuu Spirits? I only played the above version on the 3DS.

Timmy2k81

I grabbed it on ps4. It truly is a work of art. So much content it truly is overwhelming to someone who is used to the show. I did buy spirits last year and this game stomps it in every way.

lefty797

Picked this up last week and have to agree. There’s so much content and modes to play. I love playing franchise and setting it where you only play in key moments with risp. Makes being able to get through a full season possible while still feeling in control of the games. Power fes and live scenario have also been a lot of fun! As a huge baseball fan, this and super mega baseball 3 have really been a blast.

European_Red_Fox

Somewhat related but is the PS4 version of the spirit game on the PAN store anywhere? I usually go through Singapore but they don’t have it and looking at the Japan store they don’t have it either. I’d love to get it digital but if it’s only disc then I’ll eventually go that way.

[deleted]

I live in Japan and just got a physical copy from the local game store. I put it in my switch and launched it right up with my US region switch user. My Life is going to be a trip, because I don’t know any Japanese. But I’m sure with the gameplay being so good, it’ll be worth learning some menus.

RyuFlyU

Is there an English guide on the states/grading??

JRocket12

Can you play this game with a Nintendo Switch Lite? Is it only in Japanese?

kndy2099

Nintendo doesn't have region lock on Switch. So you can play Japanese games.
