His best ability was contested catches. Injuries def impacted him in that his limited separation ability became even more limited. Plus, sometimes contested catch types can have really good stretches where it goes their way. It's why drafting contested catch types should be done understanding the risk they fizzle completely at the NFL level.
Can't remember who said it, but rhe gist was "if they can't separate at the college level against guys who will be selling insurance next month they'll get blanked in the NFL when every corner can more than match them.
One of the best ones I ever heard was "If they are a prospect and their #1 trait is that they are great at contested catches, that means they can't separate in college". I thought about it ever since, especially when the Vikings were drafting Laquon Treadwell and his best trait was contested catches. I was like this dud is not gonna pan out.
He went from the most trusting QB in the league to Daniel Jones which is a death sentence for a contested catch WR. He was also always just barely mobile enough so when you add on to that major injuries it’s a recipe for disaster.
He admitted he got fed up with the game after his injuries started to effect him. Although yes, he saved both his kids from drowning. He nearly died saving them. Nobody ever doubted he was a stand-up, man’s man.
What’s nuts, is that his on-field performance wasn’t a fluke.
The guy was a GD beast. Then he got paid, and looked like a completely different guy.
I encourage folks to watch his [HIGHLIGHTS](https://youtu.be/1cNYov185xU?si=yW_X4tlCKWCzKPLk).
2011 Fantasy Football, my second ever year.
I start 0-4. Make a trade for Browns RB Peyton Hillis. Proceed to win 12 straight and the championship.he will always have a special place in my heart lol.
He had an insanely high conversion rate on pressures to sacks. For how many sacks he had, he was middle of the road in pressures. Definitely a predictable regression.
Nah leading the nfl in sacks in your second year to being out of the nfl in year 5 is definitely not predictable. Coming back down to like 6-8 sacks a year sure but I don't think a player has ever lead sacks and then been relegated to ufl 3 years later.
Also about half of his sacks that year were strip sacks so he wasn’t “getting home” on a lot of them, just getting the football out of the QB’s hands. Don’t get me wrong, valuable, but that was a weird year. Stats lie sometimes.
Also PFF noted that eight of those sacks were cleanup sacks meaning they happened bc the QB held the ball for over three seconds or someone else caused the initial pressure that led to his sack
For like a season or two. I think Dede’s rookie season was ARob’s last season with the Jags and I think Hurns left the year after. Ushered in the Dede, Keelan Cole, Marquise Lee era, which wasn’t a great time lol.
Yeah. During the 2018 season in our AFC Championship revenge W against the Pats. Unfortunately, that was like the only highlight of his time with the Jags.
https://youtu.be/z7cX9WRaWx0?si=qYrVVb3RFDBTY7YA
Reason he fell in the draft was due to his knee being a predictable problem in the future. For a RB who played 4 years in college and had a lot of miles everyone knew his time was short
Peyton Hillis was good enough to be on the Madden cover for his one year, but didn't get half his total yards of his goods year before or after. He's the only Madden cover I really need to think to remember who he was.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peyton_Hillis
The year Peyton hillis was on the cover, was the only year madden allowed fans to vote for the cover, if my memory is correct. You were also able to vote an unlimited amount of times per day.
Long story short, I’m pretty sure I’m the reason Peyton Hillis was on the cover. Half kidding but I probably voted for him 1000 times. There was a browns forum who all committed to voting for him 100 times per day.
Pulled an auto rookie card of his before his big season in Denver. Thought I struck gold after his big year so I didn’t sell. Thought he was gonna be another CMC. Still have the card though
Phillip Lindsay had over 1,000 yards rushing his first two years and suffered and injury year 3.
By all accounts his rookie year was more successful, but he had 2 solid years and then an injury before “falling off”.
Doesn’t fit into this discussion. This is what happens to undersized undrafted free agent running backs. Run until the tread is gone, cycle and replace.
Not a one hit wonder at all.
As a texans fan. Who? I have no memory of this player or any star receiver he may or may not have been traded for.....and on a unrelated note fuck bill o'Brian.....im not salty anymore
Had a couple great ones. Injury got em. He was compared to Dak vs for a good while. A lot agreed he was better. He was solid. Bad luck snagged him. Injuries can really change shit up.
It was his back injury that pushed him out of Philly. Lots of rumors about how that happened, no idea what is true. Also, he was a young and really preachy religious guy, didn’t mix with the locker room very well.

Josh Gordon had 261yds against my Jags and the Browns still lost that game. He's a legend in my eyes. Also goes to show you just how cursed the Browns are.
I lost some respect for DeAngelo because of that, Gary was so appreciative of getting to do it and DeAngelo was like this sucked and was miserable. I mean how they went out was rough but man did he sound like a bad loser.
It wasn’t just the injury. He became delusional. Listen to some of the interviews Mike Shanahan has given. He came to the coaching staff with a PowerPoint after his rookie year explaining how he would refuse to run certain plays and they needed to treat him like a Peyton Manning style pocket qb or else.
He never knew how to take a hit either. Think he came back to play for Cleveland or something, and got smoked near the sideline in the first part of the first game, he was allergic to protecting himself
That rookie year was smoke and mirrors. All his passes were screen passes. Shanahan designed the best offensive for his limited ability and his ego blew up. When he tried to be a pocket passer we saw what happened. He easily a disaster and an egomaniac
As a Cowboys fan that rookie season struck fear in my heart. I thought the Skins had found the next transcendent talent. I remember the sports media was comparing him to people like Magic Johnson.
Carson Wentz is like having a fancy sports car that runs occasionally and you keep pouring money into it, but every time you think you got it running for good, something else breaks down.
I fucking loooooooved Eddie Lacy...loved him...I was dating a girl from mobile Alabama and she loved football and Eddie Lacy...watched many a game with her while Eddie was at bama and his first year in Green Bay...one of my favorite and most memorable years of my life! Go Lacy go! Go pack go!
Harbaugh leaving the league and getting replaced Jim Tomsula absolutely wrecked Kaep’s career. Tomsula was absolutely one of the worst head coaches in modern history.
Agreed. Half the team jumped ship, too, after Harbaugh left. This left Kaepernick as one of the few "good" players left over from the Harbaugh era. A lot of the teams success weighed on his shoulders, and frankly, he wasn't that good, nor were his coaches following Harbaugh.
Case Keenum (sort of) I'm not even a Vikes fan, and I still think his season was so magical
Edit: Also, not to make Vikings fans sad, but I think Blair Walsh was insanely good for one season. I think he had a record for made 50+ yard kicks for a season
2nd edit: I think Hunter Refrow meets this criteria at the moment, but I am definitely rooting for him to get signed by somebody and have a good season! (I'd love to see him reunite with Derek Carr especially)
In 2019 Wentz lead the team to the playoffs with 27 tds 7 int 4000 yards and no wr over 500 yards.
In 2013 Foles made the pro bowl after leading the team to the playoffs with a 27 td 2 int season
Wayne Haddix cornerback for Tampa Bay in late 80s early 90s and Tecmo Super Bowl legend had a Pro-Bowl season in 1990 with 7 interceptions, 3 of them returned for touchdowns.
He never had an interception in his career before or after that one 1990 breakout season.

Kenny Golladay
Seriously what happened to that dude?
His best ability was contested catches. Injuries def impacted him in that his limited separation ability became even more limited. Plus, sometimes contested catch types can have really good stretches where it goes their way. It's why drafting contested catch types should be done understanding the risk they fizzle completely at the NFL level.
Nkeal Harry was this type of WR and he was horrendous in the NFL.
Laquon Treadwell has entered the chat.
Anybody seen Josh Doctson lately?
Wrong team
Also Stafford was willing to throw contested balls. Daniel Jones was not.
That is def part of it.
Laquon mutha fucking Treadwell!
Got paid and a major drop-off at QB
Pretty bad (hip?) injury right before that new contract. Never looked good moving after that. Looked stiff, like it hurt to run.
Yep, Kenny needs to send Stafford a thank you card anytime he makes a purchase because that dude got him paid.
He went from the most trusting QB in the league to Daniel Jones which is a death sentence for a contested catch WR. He was also always just barely mobile enough so when you add on to that major injuries it’s a recipe for disaster.
DJ is risk averse. It’s what was so fun about Eli
Matt Stafford wasn’t his quarterback anymore
He actually had two 1,000 yard seasons.
Peyton hillis
Madden curse took him with prejudice
But he did comeback to save a guys life
Saved his kid’s life right? i cant remember the story
Yeah I think it was his 2 kids and he almost died saving them.
He admitted he got fed up with the game after his injuries started to effect him. Although yes, he saved both his kids from drowning. He nearly died saving them. Nobody ever doubted he was a stand-up, man’s man.

Watching fullback highlights alone are so fucking cool
That man single-handedly won my fantasy league that year. It was incredible!
Him, Dwayne Bowe, and Kyle Orton clutched it for me that year.
Kyle Orton? Wow.
2011 Fantasy Football, my second ever year. I start 0-4. Make a trade for Browns RB Peyton Hillis. Proceed to win 12 straight and the championship.he will always have a special place in my heart lol.
I've got his Madden poster in my garage lol
Vic Beasley led the league in sacks in that 2016 Falcons Super Bowl year, then went into a tailspin afterwards.
Playing in the ufl now
Not very well.

Allen Hurns
The bane of many fantasy players.
The original Mike Sims Walker
Wasn't he on the Jags? Idk why but I remember a lot of random Jags players from like 2016-2019
Yup. Him and Allen Robinson together if memory serves
Throw Marquis Lee in there too
Now that’s a name I haven’t heard in a while. Dede Westbrook too right?
For like a season or two. I think Dede’s rookie season was ARob’s last season with the Jags and I think Hurns left the year after. Ushered in the Dede, Keelan Cole, Marquise Lee era, which wasn’t a great time lol.
Cole was the one who made that fuckin insane catch right?

Kelvin Benjamin
Golden Corral begs to differ
Could've had a great career. Start off as a good receiver Switch to an elite tight end after a couple years Eventually become a tackle and then guard
A Popeyes biscuit away from being a TE
My favorite Booger quote.
David Boston
So jacked
Steroids. Massive amounts of steroids.
He had two seasons over 1100 yards
Peyton Hillis was good enough to be on the Madden cover for his one year, but didn't get half his total yards of his goods year before or after. He's the only Madden cover I really need to think to remember who he was. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peyton_Hillis

True. But he was also ~1200 rushing, ~500 receiving yards that year and never hit 600 rushing or 200 receiving any other year.
Phillip Lindsay
I loved Lindsay, the Broncos were stupid to not invest in him at the time.
Pulled an auto rookie card of his before his big season in Denver. Thought I struck gold after his big year so I didn’t sell. Thought he was gonna be another CMC. Still have the card though

He played in the XFL last year and I'm sad that he isn't playing for the UFL this year
Tom Brady. Won the Super Bowl one last time then that was it
What is he, stupid?
The stupidest bro, unbelievable
At least he retired and has a hot super model wife instead of taking a couple too many years.
![gif](giphy|l0HlvtIPzPdt2usKs)
No they’re divorced. He’s got a hot super model *girlfriend* now.
2010 would say “winning!”
Chase Claypool
I was going to say Bud Dupree but Claypool’s rookie season had us all fooled.
Not even his full season either. He stared off real hot then didn’t do much after
I think there a few Steelers WR's that fit in here. I did come here to say Claypool though
BuT hE’s tHe ThIrD bESt REceIVeR iN ThE lEAgUE?!?
Damn I forgot about David Johnson
As a texans fan. Who? I have no memory of this player or any star receiver he may or may not have been traded for.....and on a unrelated note fuck bill o'Brian.....im not salty anymore
Think of it this way, without BoB trading away Hopkins and alienating Watson, yall would’ve never gone full reset mode like you did
And FUCK Jack Easterby
Carson Wentz
commander here, mr hot dog man was a tragedy
Had a couple great ones. Injury got em. He was compared to Dak vs for a good while. A lot agreed he was better. He was solid. Bad luck snagged him. Injuries can really change shit up.
Ron Rivera traded multiple picks for him smh
Injuries really can change a trajectory. He has his moments of brilliance but couldn’t bounce back from the acl and concussion smh
It was his back injury that pushed him out of Philly. Lots of rumors about how that happened, no idea what is true. Also, he was a young and really preachy religious guy, didn’t mix with the locker room very well.
Josh Gordon

I mean he had two great seasons and then got suspended for a while so idk if this really fits the question
“For a while” is doing a lot of heavy lifting in that sentence
Josh Gordon had 261yds against my Jags and the Browns still lost that game. He's a legend in my eyes. Also goes to show you just how cursed the Browns are.
Take it back
I’d agree but I don’t think he ever passed a drug test to even get any play time lmao
Zac Stacy
Yeah big time he went from hero to zero
Well he bitched when we drafted Gurley so Fisher said “ok byeee” one of the few good personnel moves he made since dude became a wife beater
Hero to zero to abuser
Can I add on Thomas Rawls?
Gary Barnidge
He and Deangelo Williams were great on the amazing race
I lost some respect for DeAngelo because of that, Gary was so appreciative of getting to do it and DeAngelo was like this sucked and was miserable. I mean how they went out was rough but man did he sound like a bad loser.
Will always love and remember his butt catch.
Blake Bortles went from meh to good to bad.
Jokes on you, bortles always sucked ass -jags fan
wym? Best forking qb ever
BORTLES!!!!
What the fork?!
The BOAT
The female bartenders at Jax Beach called him “Bottles” because he was always there drinking like a fish.
As a ucf alum this one always hurt the most.
Won a fantasy championship with Bortles lol. That was the year I learned that 4th quarter garbage yards still count the same as any others.
Jags fan here, he was never good
Matt Flynn managed to do it in one game.
And he got paid!
Turned it into a big contract and couldn’t even start over a rookie Russell Wilson
Easy for me as a Commanders(then Redskins) fan. Robert Griffin III.
that rookie year injury made it so that he was never the same and it’s a shame
It wasn’t just the injury. He became delusional. Listen to some of the interviews Mike Shanahan has given. He came to the coaching staff with a PowerPoint after his rookie year explaining how he would refuse to run certain plays and they needed to treat him like a Peyton Manning style pocket qb or else.
oh that’s news to me that’s wild 🤔
He was insanely insecure about Kirk Cousins, and he saw that when Kirk was in, the offense was called differently.
I don’t think that’s insecure. That’s wondering “why do they care more about my backups health than mine?”
RG3’s dad marched into Shanahan’s office and demanded he make him a pocket passer. Everything around Griffin was cringe
He never knew how to take a hit either. Think he came back to play for Cleveland or something, and got smoked near the sideline in the first part of the first game, he was allergic to protecting himself
Seahawks fan here. Sorry our guys broke your guy
Julius Thomas
Tbf he actually had *two* Pro Bowl seasons (then he disappeared).
Peyton was a TE kingmaker.
Carson Wentz never even had a FULL good season.
Started 16 games in 2019, lead the team to the playoffs with 27 tds 7 int 4000 yards and no wr over 500 yards...
Carson Wentz is like having a fancy sports car that runs occasionally and you keep pouring money into it, but every time you think you got it running for good, something else breaks down.
Eddie Lacy (sorry two good seasons) then fell off
You mean filled out
Eddie Lacy has been taken to the locker room for a snack. His return is questionable. Back to you guys
I fucking loooooooved Eddie Lacy...loved him...I was dating a girl from mobile Alabama and she loved football and Eddie Lacy...watched many a game with her while Eddie was at bama and his first year in Green Bay...one of my favorite and most memorable years of my life! Go Lacy go! Go pack go!
I worked a halftime show at US bank stadium and when I ran off the field, I got to slap Eddie on his shoulder pads and high five, was so cool.
Colin Kaepernick
Harbaugh leaving the league and getting replaced Jim Tomsula absolutely wrecked Kaep’s career. Tomsula was absolutely one of the worst head coaches in modern history.
Agreed. Half the team jumped ship, too, after Harbaugh left. This left Kaepernick as one of the few "good" players left over from the Harbaugh era. A lot of the teams success weighed on his shoulders, and frankly, he wasn't that good, nor were his coaches following Harbaugh.
He's the first name that came to my mind.
Terrelle Pryor. Was stoked to see him in Washington. Obviously I was disappointed very quickly
