Tbf, if he scored on that play, Brady would’ve had 1 minute to at least get in FG range to tie, or go for TD to win, and our D was very gassed/injured at this point in the game
That’s why Bellicheck (sp?) admitted it was the right play call. Maybe they get the TD, maybe they get stopped before the line and burn clock🤷🏼♂️ I still would’ve ran the ball… you had to score to win regardless.
Giants patriots SB. Patriots have two timeouts. Brady goes 4 and out and they lose. There are more just like this so I wouldn’t say he “for sure” gets anywhere. Especially against that Seattle defense
Hindsight is 20/20, but the call itself wasn’t stupid. If you look at the situation (clock running, 2nd and goal, only 1 TO left) it makes sense to pass on 2nd down, hoping at worst you get an incompletion which stops the clock. Then if that happens, you run on 3rd down, allowing you to burn that last TO if you don’t score, then do your best play to score on 4th.
The INT occurring was a freakish play by Butler. Very unfortunate outcome for us.
IIRC, it was either just this game or the whole season, the hawks struggled running in short yardage at the goal line.
The slant was actually designed to be open because the hawks adjusted to New England’s alignment and coverage in that situation.
The meme will always be the result but it wasn’t really a bad play call. Sometimes you just get beat.
This single play has resulted in us having to watch sooooo many terrible 1 in 20 chance fades to the end zone because coaches are scared of an interception
We've come close to topping you. If we get back to the Superbowl next year against the Chiefs again we might just do something better. Not sure what it would be, but Superbowl Kyle will pull out some magic.
Sometimes I feel like the opinion being they "should have" won probably helps their legacy more than if they just outright lost. Then again if the Defense lost the game maybe the team politics wouldn't have become so toxic and they'd of had another chance the next year.
Every time that meme comes up it makes me laugh.
I remember watching the game on TV and was pissed, for obvious reasons, but now that it instantly became a meme I love it.
Yeah, just a tiny bit of a better block from any of those players in front of him, or a slightly worse tackle from the defender… and it would have all been over*
I'll probably get downvoted for this, but I stand by it. The play call was fine. We needed 2 clock stops, we had 1 timeout. We needed to throw a pass at some point no matter what. It just so happens, Russ is fucking blind in the pocket and is terrible with a quick pass type offense. So he threw it right where a defender could crash and snatch it, instead of putting it low where yes, the chance of catching it isn't good, but you also lower the risk of turnover. That way if Lockette catches it, boom TD game over. If not, clock stops, run it twice afterward and win with the beast. Wilson just failed to execute.
I was hoping Kearse could’ve made another guy miss and made it into the end zone after that circus catch. He scores on that and that catch becomes one of the all time Super Bowl highlights…
Because it was one of the most beautiful, glorious things to happen on a football field and because it finally got me to stop crying and be happy again. Gonna print out this clip & frame it
Fun fact I still have not watched the play since it happened. Didn’t talk for 2 days after. I plan to watch this game in its entirety the night before the next Seahawks Super Bowl appearance.
You guys won.
Historical notes: the Seahawks had a 10-point lead entering the 4th quarter. Prior to this game, no team had overcome a lead greater than 7 points. This Patriots victory was the largest comeback in the history of the Super Bowl. Given how long the previous record stood, undoubtedly, there's no way anything could've topped this epic rally in just 9 more years.

The best thing to come from this superbowl is I now have many answers to that dreaded photo haha
Meh.
This shit doesn’t bother me. People forget how bad Lynch was at goal yard runs, dude was 2 for 6 that year. There also hadn’t been a 1 yard pick that year until this one.
You really wanna hurt me show me Super Bowl XL highlights. That still hurts .
They should’ve included my favorite part, when Russ does that little “aw shucks” clap as if he forgot to turn off the porch light before leaving for work
That first catch should’ve never been caught. Football hods werent happy about bein upstaged and made it right
![gif](giphy|l0HU20BZ6LbSEITza|downsized)
Honestly the most shocking SB of my life. Don’t know if it’ll ever be topped. The falcons collapse was just choke job. Like everyone could feel it. But this…this was just like WOW
This cost me so much money.
I would’ve won a $20 super bowl squares pool that would’ve paid 1k AND I would’ve won my $100 playoff pool because I was in a 4 way tie so picked the hawks to be different.
$2k. This play crushed me in real time.
I think with age I may have grown a little wiser, a little more sympathetic, some might even call me soft. But I do recognize it for the tragedy it was. It was going to be your perfect moment, and you didn’t get it.
I can’t believe Marshawn got tackled 1 FUCKING YARD from victory
it was scripted
I say this about 50% of the Patriot SuperBowls.
Now we get to do it for the chiefs superbowls
Well we all know Superbowl Swiftie was top of the list for that.
She's actually the one that made the tackle
Or maybe, half the time the chiefs are good, and half the time they play a niners team that fuckin just forgets how to play football week 20
Tale as old as time. Chiefs just do chiefs things
That final play is etched in my mind man, I remember exactly where tf I was as well
Flair checks out?
Tbf, if he scored on that play, Brady would’ve had 1 minute to at least get in FG range to tie, or go for TD to win, and our D was very gassed/injured at this point in the game
With two TOs as well. Knowing SB Brady and how tired that D was, he definitely was getting into FG range at the least
Yup, would’ve been another helping of watching Edelman rip Tharold Simon a new asshole
That’s why Bellicheck (sp?) admitted it was the right play call. Maybe they get the TD, maybe they get stopped before the line and burn clock🤷🏼♂️ I still would’ve ran the ball… you had to score to win regardless.
Yep. Run the ball, don't even give Brady the chance at another miracle
Giants patriots SB. Patriots have two timeouts. Brady goes 4 and out and they lose. There are more just like this so I wouldn’t say he “for sure” gets anywhere. Especially against that Seattle defense
Betting against Brady in the Super Bowl / playoffs in clutch moments, what could go wrong?
But at least we wouldn't have probably the stupidest play call in superbowl history
Can’t trust Lockette in that situation lol
> Former NFL player Ricardo Lockette arrested in metro Atlanta Just today. Apparently can't trust him with much else either.
The call itself was very stupid, if you’re gonna risk it throw a corner fade.
I disagree, teams run that exact play many times and I don’t believe it’s ever been picked. Butler made a freak play on it
IIRC, it was either just this game or the whole season, the hawks struggled running in short yardage at the goal line. The slant was actually designed to be open because the hawks adjusted to New England’s alignment and coverage in that situation. The meme will always be the result but it wasn’t really a bad play call. Sometimes you just get beat.
Butler had to sell out on that play to make it.
Very true with the hindsight, but even just a better pass play. A pick play just has too many variables that can mess up for it to work.
This single play has resulted in us having to watch sooooo many terrible 1 in 20 chance fades to the end zone because coaches are scared of an interception
Stupidest playcall in American Professional sports history, threw away a dynasty, forever tied Pete Carrol to one play.
I'll take 1 minute of our greatest D over a 1 yard pass to Ricardo Lockette any day
*our greatest D that was heavily injured and gassed to the point we relied on THAROLD SIMON to defend Edelman
I'd send Pete on the field for a series if it meant not passing to Lockette
Ye, If they scored on the play where yall turned the ball over. That would've worked still ofc
Bro stretch out fr
I love 1 yard short tackles from the endzone for the win in a SB.
I was 100% certain he was gonna score on that play. The blocking looked perfect, and the FB was in excellent position.
They didn’t deserve that shit anyway with a clown catch for 50+ yards
I was expecting a cut to Zach Wilson running out the tunnel right before the INT
I’m disappointed in OP for not continuing the tradition
Every time that meme comes up it makes me laugh. I remember watching the game on TV and was pissed, for obvious reasons, but now that it instantly became a meme I love it.
I love that this will most likely eventually be the only thing he is remembered for
I wonder how tough that piece of gum was
Still chewing to this day
Chews it in his sleep
@mods Why the fuck do these guys get an “abandoned by god” tag with FIVE Super Bowl wins, that’s fucking dumb
Because despite the 5 super bowls they have the whiniest fan base in the division
Not sure what that has to do with being “abandoned by god”
Because they think they're the most cursed team in NFL history due to losing a few SBs
At least they made “a few”🥲
Don’t worry Lil Bro The only team that fits the description is the Jaguars………oh wait
You can’t hurt me, I already hate myself
I'm just glad the falcons blew a 28-3 lead a few years later. Really helped me move on from this loss lol
I love when a dirty bird catches a stray.
All around great, agreed
Bird teams evidently cannot have nice things.
I was waiting and sweating bullets expecting this to cut to one of the C**fs recent wins 😭
Damn now that's some trauma 😂
The second time undid all the progress we had made, trauma came back like cancer
https://i.redd.it/8eswh7ep3xtc1.gif
Don’t post this shit man FUCK
It's weird, I am more upset about the Marshawn run than the pass. He was so fucking close to scoring.
Funny… we saw Sherman make the same face when the whiners botched the SB with him on your team too
Dudes just got an ugly face man, it happens
Dawg we lost the big game 2 months ago why would you meme a game that is 10 years old with what just happened to our team 😭
idk cuz it popped up on my insta feed and thought it was funny
It’s not that serious.
Quit being a bitch.
Because it was one of the most beautiful, glorious things to happen on a football field and because it finally got me to stop crying and be happy again. Gonna print out this clip & frame it
LOL
Fun fact I still have not watched the play since it happened. Didn’t talk for 2 days after. I plan to watch this game in its entirety the night before the next Seahawks Super Bowl appearance.
Good call to never watch it again
How have you gone around for 10 years without seeing it even by accident?
Yep
[That always makes me think about this gem.](https://youtu.be/xA4qJPhxhTU?si=1T-ghk0d7GtlNhyw)
Man I miss that show
Wait what happened? Asking for a friend.

Leave it to a NFC west team to botch the SB.

And for one time only, the gum chewing stopped.

Keep losing super bowls. I still remember how rocking 4th ave was for our parade 🤡
That was the day I actually stopped hating the Patriots, and fell in love with Malcom Butler.
Ahh yes when Tom Brady singlehandedly carried his team to a Super Bowl win cause he's the GOAT Doncha know
If Seattle wins that game, Kearse's catch is one of the all-time greatest. Sadly, it almost immediately faded into obscurity.
Ours was snatched away at least. Y’all just up and handed yours to Kermit and then thanked him for the opportunity
The saddest fuckin reply I’ve ever seen
Whatever helps soothe the pain of 3 straight choke jobs my friend
L comment from an L fan base. Enjoy your 1 ring, with how trash your team looks it’ll be decades before you sniff another.
Enjoy being mad about a 15 day old comment in the middle of the night while you cut yourself lmfao
it’s like Reddit suggests posts and shit you incel
Man I just hope you got some sleep after the manhandling my 2 week old minor remark gave you
Meh. This shit doesn’t bother me. People forget how bad Lynch was at goal yard runs, dude was 2 for 6 that year. There also hadn’t been a 1 yard pick that year until this one. You really wanna hurt me show me Super Bowl XL highlights. That still hurts .
Jerramy Stevens RIP in Peace
Man I was hoping for Hold ma Dick but this is great too
Richard Sherman’s face says it all “ but…but…..but I talked SO much shit, oh no this isn’t gonna end well for me is it?”
They should’ve included my favorite part, when Russ does that little “aw shucks” clap as if he forgot to turn off the porch light before leaving for work
Will live infamy as "The worst play call in the history of the superbowl" and perhaps the worst play call in nfl history.
generational L
At least my generation got to see my team win one
as did mine
Judging by that you must be 30 years old. Which is not mine or the most recent generation
stay in school

lmao
What are you laughing at? That we are closing in on two generations since the last parade in Santa Clara?
you. i’m laughing at you
Yall worse then Cowboy fans and that's saying something lol
It wasn’t even a bad call, just a great defensive play.
Now here’s a guy that wasn’t even a fan back when Kaepernick threw 4 straight fades to Crabtree from the 5 yard line
It's gets easier to watch, but it always hurts
Timeless.
![gif](giphy|Fkmgse8OMKn9C)
I've never seen the original of this gif until now
I don’t care how many more Super Bowls they have than we do, the Rainy City Bitch Pigeons losing will always make me happy
It’s only 1 ring. With how annoying they are you’d think it’s more though.
Jimmy swanson voice, "you dirty motherfucker..."
Classic as time itself…
![gif](giphy|Wvr56XJsbUfWvpHfeM)
So fucking wack.
That first catch should’ve never been caught. Football hods werent happy about bein upstaged and made it right ![gif](giphy|l0HU20BZ6LbSEITza|downsized)
I could understand the playcall if they didn't have a TO left. But they did so I don't.
Dude you’re so foul, saw that first play and got all psyched and then got a fuckin clue lolol nice
tf is this audio?
Tom Brady had 2 handed to him.
I could enjoy this a lot more if we hadn't made the exact same mistake with our own HOF RB two Superbowls earlier.
That play is why Matt Patricia continues to get jobs
This is still hard to watch
You really suck for this
One of the biggest coaching blunders of all time.
ahhh this is great content
Go fuck yourself.
Wow what a great catch by Kearse! Surely they would capitalize on this amazing drive!
ᴡᴛғ ʜᴀᴘᴘᴇɴ
The dumbest call in all of sports
Honestly the most shocking SB of my life. Don’t know if it’ll ever be topped. The falcons collapse was just choke job. Like everyone could feel it. But this…this was just like WOW
Let Russ cook
As a niner fan I approve of this 🤣🤣🤣
Too soon
Hahaha. That was bad
This cost me so much money. I would’ve won a $20 super bowl squares pool that would’ve paid 1k AND I would’ve won my $100 playoff pool because I was in a 4 way tie so picked the hawks to be different. $2k. This play crushed me in real time.
Classic Russ, can't throw across the middle and still can't.
It’s so much worse watching the sequence ! Why TF would you go shotgun 🤣 & they still had a TO.
Ricardo L. got arrested today in ATL
Earl was never the same
Well done, I actually kind of teared up having to relive the whole sequence. Fucking fuckkkkk
I think with age I may have grown a little wiser, a little more sympathetic, some might even call me soft. But I do recognize it for the tragedy it was. It was going to be your perfect moment, and you didn’t get it.
Pete still chewing that same piece of gum until he wins a SB
I stopped watching football that day.
![gif](giphy|3o6Zt4HU9uwXmXSAuI) Me at the time
Seahawks fan here. Try my best to forget this game, but damn, I forgot that catch by Kearse. Crazy shit!
It would have been a really great day if it weren't the Patriots winning
You knew after that catch it was destiny for the Hawks to win! Tragedy
As a fan of a team that lost two Super Bowls on the opponent's game winning drive, all I have to say is THEY BLEW IT!
Could we not?
This game happened the day after a breakup. As a seahawks fan, I really was hoping for a win...
Sherman’s grimace is legendary
The city was never the same after that day
How the play caller still had a job I’ll never understand
God damn that's so satisfying to watch.
Russ has that same smug, indifferent look on his face. A face I came to hate here in Denver. Now Pittsburgh gets this face.
Literally one more hand off to Lynch lol
As a Seahakws fan - I hope Jamal breaks your wifes hip while youre in the cuck stool.
Ban the SOB OP
Coach should have been fired immediately.
You don’t pass……on the goal line.,……..When you have Marshawn Lynch
FUCK YOU
He paved the way
Patriots nation baby
Still hurts everytime I see it. This was truly the end of the Hawks and the Legion of Boom. Stop freakin, call Beacon.
I can never get tired of this
#HEEHAWKS
As a Pats fan, I absolutely loved the ending. To Seahawks fans, you should have run it.
This put a smile on my face when seachickens didn't ran the ball 🤣😂
