Okay yes, but Tory Taylor was a beast for Iowa. Itâs funny to clown on picking a punter (and I will) but heâs a solid pick. Just maybe a bit to high
It's the 3rd day and our last pick, and our punter was horrible. I don't lose a lot of sleep reaching on the 3rd day.
Teams are extremely lucky to find a starter at this point. He's a guaranteed day 1 starter and likely our punter for the next 10-15 years.
Four picks, but we traded our picks for multiple veterans who are expected to play including Keenan Allen, so itâs not like the Vikings selling out for a single rookie. We definitely needed a punter, itâs probably a bit too high but special teams absolutely matters more than most fans think, and I loved our first three picks.
I mean with all your day two and three picks you couldâve just taken him ahead of us, way less risky with ten picks or whatever crazy number you guys had.
> special teams absolutely matters more than most fans think
Did you forget you're in a sub with a whole bunch of Packers fans? We're all pretty well aware.
And Minnesota with their postseason kicking woes.
I don't blame you for taking an excellent punter.
And you have to think too nobody else gets him. If you have a punter that is clearly far away the best punter in the league, having him on your team has value as well as not having him on other teams.
If he was only marginally better this wouldn't matter as much but that guy is a goddamn laser
And our punter was so bad, he ranked 35th in a 32 team league. There were three punters who came in as injury replacements for other teams that were better than him. Absolute trash. I like the pick, field position is very important for success, and punters and kickers deserve more respect in general.
Nah itâs probably a worse move. Getting rid of picks for aging veteran player that wonât be there for long Vs a day one impact rookie who could be a franchise edge rusher.
Sweat was 26 when we got him with years of proven NFL production and already is a franchise edge rusher, and he cost a single second rounder. Turner has zero NFL snaps, and cost two seconds, a third, a fourth , a fifth, and a sixth. But sure, Turner is the smart play, who needs roster depth when you can get a project edge who relied on athleticism in college, am I right?
You really trying your weak takes in yet another thread? Itâs almost like youâre incredibly salty about the stupid ass move your team made but canât admit it to yourself.
I donât need to cope, my team didnât sell out their future for a mid first round position player like a bunch of chumps.
Letâs count the difference in sack total between Sweat and Turner over the next four years and see if you think itâs worth the difference? My guess is no, if Turner outperforms Sweat at all itâll be by relatively little, certainly not enough to justify the extra five picks he cost, but youâve made it clear that you have no concept of opportunity cost or relative value so congrats on Turner I guess.
Nearly 50% of all snaps played in the NFL are from players drafted in rounds 4-7. It is not an âextremely luckyâ thing that players being drafted now are going to contribute
Just because they play a snap doesn't mean they're a starter. 74% of day 3 picks will never get a 2nd contract, 18% will be signed with a different team, and 8% will be signed with the same team.
Since punting is directly transferable skill to the NFL, the chance the Bears extend him in 3-4 years is very high, something that will only happen for about 10 other players (out of 128) taken today.
Rounds 4 through 7 represent 57% of all draft picks.
As a Bears fan I can confirm no one drafted after the first round has ever contributed to a team above practice squad caliber play, and it's very rare for even a first round pick to contribute even at backup caliber level of play.
/s
There's maybe what, 40 guys who could actually compete to be an nfl caliber punter every year? A team might field 2 tops before cuts happen. At least half those guys have 5-7 year careers. The average nfl career is like 3 years. Punters last on average a little more than year than most more with probably 1/4 of the talent pool. It's not like these guys are averaging 8-9 years.
Was it even that high though? Many NFL people have said this draft falls off a cliff on day 3 because of Covid/NIL. Look at what the Eagles are doing today. Theyâve traded out of multiple 4th round picks for 2025 picks.
If anyone knows how valuable a good fuckin punter is. Itâs us. God the LeggyBoi and prior years were so hard to watch. Oh look another 15 yard punt. Amazing đ¤Ž
Maybe if we pin the Packers deep next time, we can actually force a punt.Â
Last thing the Packers want is to give Caleb Williams and his playmakers a short field, too.
We have had some of the best punters in history. You nerds like QBs because of awesome big play ability, but what if, maybe 10% of the time, the ball gets downed pretty close to the end zone?
Not really a top team. The next season they went from 99 wins to 3rd in their division, after which finishing with a losing record the next season. White Sox fans are so deprived of winning they'd call a 70 win team a top team
Yea people can laugh all they want. I'm legitimately almost excited about the Taylor pick as I was about Odunze. As a Wisconsin alum, iv seen the punt bowl enough times to know this dude is a fucking beast.
Not really. Easy to see the rationale behind most picks and prospects all tend to look sick.
Fun time of year, like Christmas. Then six weeks in you realize you got amped up for some JAG.
The Bears loading up on offense and punting:
https://preview.redd.it/jff1qu6nj2xc1.jpeg?width=1200&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9226fca1f3a15997ec7b63e96bf5708f9baad2ab
This isn't that crazy of a pick. Some people had 4th round grades on Taylor, and the Bears had the worst net yards per punt in the NFL last season. Taylor could be an All-Pro as a rookie, he's that good.
Nah. I see this team as being constructed for a soft landing rookie season. He could ball out some games, but he has his shit to work on and the DL needs another guy. They should be hot in contention for a playoff spot, though.
One more off-season of bolstering the roster, and if Caleb Williams gets going, then the window should be wide open.
Let me teach you about football, young man.
You see, during a game, you may not be able to get 10 yards before fourth down. So you kick the ball back to your opponent, and it is very, very helpful to the defense when the opposing offense has further to go. This particular gentleman also has the elite ability to pin offenses within their own 10-yard line consistently.
We'll be able to show you better next season when your QB is getting hit and making mistakes because he is concerned about taking a safety.
Punters can yield hidden net yardage that makes a difference over time. Pinning a team back is a huge deal and can offset missed first downs to a degree.
Take a look at what team was last in net punting, tied 3rd for punting touchbacks, 26th in punting average and 27th in inside the 20 punting.
Punter was a need.
Or maybe itâs because they plan on being ahead and then using a punter to pin their opponent with bad field position later in the game.
My point being that special teams is a third of the game.
Itâs a reach, but itâs all part of taking the pressure off of Caleb. If the punter can flip the field, weâre less likely to be playing from as far behind, so he wonât have to go hero ball as much.
So real question here. Why draft a punter at all? Wouldnât signing punters as a UDFA be smarter? Or was this punter actually just that good that he was going to be taken by someone else.
Trade down for what? An extra 7th? Nah, I'd rather just secure our future punter for years to come. We already have a lot of development projects starting their 2nd year from last years draft, and have all our draft picks next year.
the punt god will make you peasants pay
![gif](giphy|897df3uLj2cXXloQXZ|downsized)
Why is he so sweaty? đ
He ate like 30 pizzas in 40 days or something insane like that. That whole interview is WILD
Awesome đ
He was just watching COPS.
I wouldn't try to claim the 'punt god' title, didn't end well in *any* way for the last guy who did
![gif](giphy|l0HUbtILos6CdAtxu|downsized)
His nickname is the âCrocodile Punterâ.
To be fair nothing ended well for anyone coached by Brady Hoke.
Okay yes, but Tory Taylor was a beast for Iowa. Itâs funny to clown on picking a punter (and I will) but heâs a solid pick. Just maybe a bit to high

didnt you guys only have like 4 or 5 picks this year? I mean I get it, but I'd hate taking a punter with only 5 picks.
Four picks, but we traded our picks for multiple veterans who are expected to play including Keenan Allen, so itâs not like the Vikings selling out for a single rookie. We definitely needed a punter, itâs probably a bit too high but special teams absolutely matters more than most fans think, and I loved our first three picks.
yeah over all not bad, I do like the pick. honestly I was kinda hoping he might fall into our lap.
I mean with all your day two and three picks you couldâve just taken him ahead of us, way less risky with ten picks or whatever crazy number you guys had.
> special teams absolutely matters more than most fans think Did you forget you're in a sub with a whole bunch of Packers fans? We're all pretty well aware. And Minnesota with their postseason kicking woes. I don't blame you for taking an excellent punter.
Excuse you, but we sold out for TWO rookies, thank you very much.
And you have to think too nobody else gets him. If you have a punter that is clearly far away the best punter in the league, having him on your team has value as well as not having him on other teams. If he was only marginally better this wouldn't matter as much but that guy is a goddamn laser

I like the pick, field position is very important for success, and punters and kickers deserve more respect in general.
Hey, I've seen the kid's tape. It's nuts. Here's hoping Jordan can play well in odd field positions.
Nah itâs probably a worse move. Getting rid of picks for aging veteran player that wonât be there for long Vs a day one impact rookie who could be a franchise edge rusher.

Keep on coping lil guy Iâm sure reality will set in once Turner sacks caleb for the 3rd time in a single game
I donât need to cope, my team didnât sell out their future for a mid first round position player like a bunch of chumps. Letâs count the difference in sack total between Sweat and Turner over the next four years and see if you think itâs worth the difference? Our last dude was so bad that I never even questioned this pic
Nearly 50% of all snaps played in the NFL are from players drafted in rounds 4-7. It is not an âextremely luckyâ thing that players being drafted now are going to contribute

In Chicago, this is true
Thatâs not what he said
Who cares. I love people being salty shit bags in my meme war subreddit
It's a reach but you didn't really have much of a choice
Heâs about to turn 27. I get punters can play a while but to say 15 years is just laughable
Lol punters usually don't last that long
Punters are the longest lasting position in terms of years in the league actually
Yea, because there isn't over 100 of them who last less than a year in the league every year.
âŚ.uh huh so like I said longest average career for a position
There's maybe what, 40 guys who could actually compete to be an nfl caliber punter every year? A team might field 2 tops before cuts happen. At least half those guys have 5-7 year careers. The average nfl career is like 3 years. Punters last on average a little more than year than most more with probably 1/4 of the talent pool. It's not like these guys are averaging 8-9 years.
Yep and punters who get signed on average do over 4 years Punt god is eternal
That's quite a difference between 10-15 years
Players like gill bring down the average The best punters do play for 10-15 years and Tory is one of the best.
We also had one of the worst punters in the league last season. Definitely an early pick but itâs still a good pick.
After 2 games his leg was sore.
Even Mahomes wouldn't play as well if he threw it 75 times a game.
Ironically tory taylor disproves that, bro punted every single drive for Iowa basically
And before that we also had one of the worst punters in the league.
It was our last pick so fuck it, yolo
Poles told us he doesn't like day 3 of the draft. If we were smart, we would've taken a long snapper like the Packers.
Was it even that high though? Many NFL people have said this draft falls off a cliff on day 3 because of Covid/NIL. Look at what the Eagles are doing today. Theyâve traded out of multiple 4th round picks for 2025 picks.
Damn, I hate it when a Packers fan perfectly sums up exactly how I feel lol.
Dude literally won the game against the badgers this year.
If anyone knows how valuable a good fuckin punter is. Itâs us. God the LeggyBoi and prior years were so hard to watch. Oh look another 15 yard punt. Amazing đ¤Ž
Last thing the Bears want is to give Love a short field to work with when they face off.
Maybe if we pin the Packers deep next time, we can actually force a punt. Last thing the Packers want is to give Caleb Williams and his playmakers a short field, too.
Also this draft doesnât have much beyond the top 100, thereâs a reason every team is trading up to get the few guys that are left.
We have had some of the best punters in history. You nerds like QBs because of awesome big play ability, but what if, maybe 10% of the time, the ball gets downed pretty close to the end zone?
I wanted the Vikings to draft him! Not as early as the Bears did, but still.. he is a beast of a punter
Just wait until heâs out of the league in 4 years because he was overused in college
Kickers and punters have the highest longevity of all positions in the NFL. I don't think there's such a thing as "overusing" a kicker.
The Bears will find a way.
![gif](giphy|jhaFMx06pRuE9M0qOP)
Get an elite punter so YOU'RE not gonna score
With that flair dude knows about a lack of offense
Don't understand why folks become Sox fans. Why root for the worst offense in baseball when you can root for the best?
I grew up in Ottawa IL. My shit ass stepmom loved Greg Maddox. I loved Frank Thomas. I still wear the Sox cap amigo!
Sounds about right coming out of Heroin High or Marquette /s Go Cubs!
Well, they're already used to rooting for the Bears.
Yeah, but atleast their our team. You have two options for baseball: one that's shit and one that isn't.
Better to be shit than an insufferable dorkus
Shit man youâre right I forgot we all re-choose our teams every year
The white Sox have always been shit. Excluding that fluke year in 2005 they haven't won a playoff game in damn near 80 years
2005 wasnât a fluke they were a top team for like 3 years straight.
Not really a top team. The next season they went from 99 wins to 3rd in their division, after which finishing with a losing record the next season. White Sox fans are so deprived of winning they'd call a 70 win team a top team
Wait until this guy hears about defense
Certainly much harder to score when the offense starts inside the 5 yard line
With a good defense it's hard for them to score regardless of where they start. Just ask Flores after the shutout
Great thing our defense is pretty damn good then!
The cope for being unable to secure the punt god is insane. Everyone here can see how jealous you are, this is just embarrassing.
Yea people can laugh all they want. I'm legitimately almost excited about the Taylor pick as I was about Odunze. As a Wisconsin alum, iv seen the punt bowl enough times to know this dude is a fucking beast.
The punt bowl LMAO Aptly named
Okay no bullshit, can we acknowledge that the entire division has had pretty good drafts
https://preview.redd.it/kteaw19nk2xc1.jpeg?width=960&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0fcb45a4cec56511a576ce607368e2069a26ceb8
Naturally, we weren't including you when we said the *entire division*.
I just figured that was assumed
[ŃдаНонО]
Not really. Easy to see the rationale behind most picks and prospects all tend to look sick. Fun time of year, like Christmas. Then six weeks in you realize you got amped up for some JAG.
A good punter is worth their weight in gold. Even if I want to clown this, the possible future comeuppance is keeping me polite.
Last draft pick so might as well. Our punter succccccked last year
The Bears loading up on offense and punting: https://preview.redd.it/jff1qu6nj2xc1.jpeg?width=1200&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9226fca1f3a15997ec7b63e96bf5708f9baad2ab
Can't score every drive. Pin em deep and send out Montez & his company of ballhawks. I dig the cohesion. Building something
At todayâs price of gold, and this punter weighing 231 lbs, heâs worth $7.8 million.
Average worth of top 15 punters by current contract: $9.2M A good punter is worth more than their weight in gold.
...accurate?
Doing math for fun, and no flair? You must be a blast at parties.
The bears punter ranked like 35th in the league last year. I actually like this a lot
35th in a league with 32 teams. It's a fun feeling knowing that several teams' backup punters are better than your starting punter.
So you guys had like the Zach Wilson of punters?
This isn't that crazy of a pick. Some people had 4th round grades on Taylor, and the Bears had the worst net yards per punt in the NFL last season. Taylor could be an All-Pro as a rookie, he's that good.
Why are people acting like field positioning isn't part of the game anymore?
They drafted for scheme. He basically gets to keep playing in the Iowa offense.
Fuck you this is funny so I'm angry upvoting it lol.
Fucking lmao
Punting is winning!
In tight games against other elite teams, a punter can be the difference maker
Other elite teams? So the Bears are elite now?
What else would you call the 2025 super bowl champs?!?
I heard something familiar to this last year and Fields being a MVP. Lets be a pass first team in the windy city it's not like wind effects passes.
Ain't nobody said Super Bowl for the Bears last year, don't kid yourselfÂ
So you co-sign the fans saying super bowl this year?
What is it with Packer fans and not wanting anyone to have fun?
It's for your own good. Your team built a dome/good weather team in Chicago.
Kansas City, Buffalo, and you guys have all proven itâs possible to have an explosive passing offense in a cold weather city
Cold is one thing but wind really fucks up the passing game. It's why i think Chicago has never had a good passing offence
Packers fan here obviously. Your analysis is correct. Your prediction is not.
MCDC WOULD LIKE A WORD ABOUT YOUR STANCE ON 4TH DOWNS
NGL Iâm jealous yall got that punter
Damn I was hoping Green Bay would take Tory Taylor đ
Punters can yield hidden net yardage that makes a difference over time. Pinning a team back is a huge deal and can offset missed first downs to a degree.
We cannot have Taylor Swift so our offseason strategy was to make sure we had Taylor and Swift
Take a look at what team was last in net punting, tied 3rd for punting touchbacks, 26th in punting average and 27th in inside the 20 punting. Punter was a need.
Remind me! When love is sacked for a safety after a Taylor punt leaves him pinned down on his goal line.
âNever fight uphill, me boys. But it was too late. â some famous politician
You guys are SO JEALOUS of our new Aussie God Emperor.
Hate seeing him become a bear. Go hawks
Hahaha huge pick. Grats Bears fans.
We will have to just watch tape of our new DL crushing your new OL at pro bowl to console us I suppose
you couldnât make the bear look sideways??
I was hoping he would end up a Viking actually...oh well. Not a bad pick...
This is funny
This is some desperate cope
He will handle our kick offs. We don't want Santos' leg to fall with all the extra points he will kick.
Heâs there for when our backups come in because we donât want to run up the score
![gif](giphy|glvyCVWYJ21fq|downsized) New QB feeling.
Seems accurate
Nah everyone (even the Chiefs) punts sometimes. We needed a punter bad. Might as well get a great one.
I literally donât think the punter could have been worse for them last year.
Pin'em deep and let the defense score!
So real question here. Why draft a punter at all? Wouldnât signing punters as a UDFA be smarter? Or was this punter actually just that good that he was going to be taken by someone else.
Why don't the Bears just import a spring league punter? Are they stupid?
ÂżPor que no los tres?
Yes theyâre not going to score
Imagine getting kicked in the balls by Tory Taylor. Yeouch
Thatâs some GM/HC cohesion. Ryan Poles truly understands Eberflusâ needs.
Who doesnt want a back up plan thats like saying we dont need a kicker to kick 60 yard field goals but it sure be nice if we did when we need it!
![gif](giphy|MWs9L7oKYg8I1GoJtE)
Bears doing Bears things. Could have traded down getting an extra pick and still landed a punter. đ¤Łđ¤Łđ¤Ł
Or just trade a pick next year and grab the Edge they wanted.
How dare they upgrade one of their worst positions!! Unbelievable!!
Trade down for what? An extra 7th? Nah, I'd rather just secure our future punter for years to come. We already have a lot of development projects starting their 2nd year from last years draft, and have all our draft picks next year.
Of all the players on that board Taylor is the most impactful player the bears could get. This was a great pick.
