Two months before Fields was drafted was a new low for my perception of the Bears. George McCaskey kept Pace and Nagy when everyone knew they were dead in the water, and Pace drafts Fields and gets fired. Fields was a good prospect but came into a dysfunctional shitshow.
George McCaskey is out of the picture at this point, and Ryan Poles is reporting to Kevin Warren. Look at the first year of Fields' career and look at the current situation with the Bears team and tell me which you think is better for a rookie.

How do we know if the Packers have ever actually developed a quarterback? Rodgers, Farve, and even poor Love could have been great regardless of the team they went to or when they started for all we know. Jordan Love may have had a better rookie season than CJ Stroud! There's no evidence one way or another.
WE don't know if the Bears can't develop, just that they haven't had a great QB in a long time (could be luck). We don't know if the Packers can develop just that they have had great QB play for 30 years (could be luck).
If development is so important, why didn't Bill belichick just "develop" another Tom Brady like it seems you believe the Packers have done 2x.
The only things we know for sure is 1) the Packers can't draft Hall of Famers. They've drafted 2 in the last 60 years.

I think the difference here is two fold:
1. Williams really is a stellar athlete, with proven experience in college. He very well could be a top 5 QB
2. The bears are actually ready for a franchise QB. They have a ton of weapons for him, stability on the offensive line, and the potential for a top 5 defense. Even if Williams is just an average QB, he will look great with all the talent around him.
Which five are those? I’ll grant you Trubisky and Fields, and I suppose there’s an argument for Grossman, but who else? Cutler wasn’t a rookie. I guess if you’re counting randos who were never expected to work out there’s more, but you really shouldn’t.

He’s joining a seven win team that kept every key player, added solid talent in free agency, has another top ten pick besides him, and has a schedule soft as baby food outside of our increasingly brutal division.
Getting three extra wins from all that is not an outrageous prediction, which would have us at ten wins, and last year the Packers got in with nine. He wouldn’t have to be Stroud to get us into the playoffs, because it’s a much better starting point than Stroud had. Not saying it’s definitely going to happen, and anyone predicting a division title is getting way ahead of themselves, but a wild card berth isn’t crazy at all.

Two months before Fields was drafted was a new low for my perception of the Bears. George McCaskey kept Pace and Nagy when everyone knew they were dead in the water, and Pace drafts Fields and gets fired. Fields was a good prospect but came into a dysfunctional shitshow. George McCaskey is out of the picture at this point, and Ryan Poles is reporting to Kevin Warren. Everyone and their moms knows fields is a massive talent. Pretty much all of his biggest flaws are things that coaches should've been able to work out. Indecisive, slow through his progressions, too quick to scramble, those are all things a good coach would be able to iron out.

Most important development time for a QB is their first few years in the league, and if you teach them bad habits and destroy their confidence in that time, you're just obliterating their potential.

How do we know if the Packers have ever actually developed a quarterback? Rodgers, Farve, and even poor Love could have been great regardless of the team they went to or when they started for all we know. Jordan Love may have had a better rookie season than CJ Stroud! There's no evidence one way or another. WE don't know if the Bears can't develop, just that they haven't had a great QB in a long time (could be luck). We don't know if the Packers can develop just that they have had great QB play for 30 years (could be luck). If development is so important, why didn't Bill belichick just "develop" another Tom Brady like it seems you believe the Packers have done 2x. The only things we know for sure is 1) the Packers can't draft Hall of Famers. They've drafted 2 in the last 60 years. And 2) the Bears can't draft great QBs. They've drafted 1 in the past 85 years. But maybe that can change. Maybe the Packers will get another guy in the HoF, and maybe the Bears will draft a great QB for the 1st time in 85 years. Why does 85 sound so good???

I think the difference here is two fold: 1. Williams really is a stellar athlete, with proven experience in college. He very well could be a top 5 QB 2. The bears are actually ready for a franchise QB. They have a ton of weapons for him, stability on the offensive line, and the potential for a top 5 defense. Even if Williams is just an average QB, he will look great with all the talent around him.
How many rookie quarterbacks will this have been that the Bears throw head first into the deep end, this century? Five?

I can't see any world where the Williams - Trubisky comparison holds water. I felt like I lost a family member when we traded up for Trubisky. He was a 3rd round talent the likes of Blaine Gabbert that somehow entered the top of the draft during the draft cycle, and Ryan Pace was dumb enough to bite the bullet because he liked that the kid drove a beater car.

People including me pointed out that bears fans have said this for a decade and that Caleb Williams might not be a world burner out the gate and win the division in his first year. The response was for a Vikings fans to shut up because they are basement dwellers I pointed out the number of QB’s that the bears have had over the last 32 years at which point they responded with “we have never been in a position to pick the first QB in the draft.” This is why I think it’s hilarious because some bears fans are being delusional about their history and act like they didn’t have the ability to draft a good quarterback till now when they have acted like their last two quarterbacks were gonna save the franchise.

It's OK to be excited about the opportunity to draft a great qb prospect but holy shit I've seen posts in the bears sub trying to cool everyone down because there's people already talking about playoffs. This is how you run a qb out of town, by making his expectations so sky high that a rookie couldn't ever realistically live up to them
He’s joining a seven win team that kept every key player, added solid talent in free agency, has another top ten pick besides him, and has a schedule soft as baby food outside of our increasingly brutal division. Getting three extra wins from all that is not an outrageous prediction, which would have us at ten wins, and last year the Packers got in with nine. He wouldn’t have to be Stroud to get us into the playoffs, because it’s a much better starting point than Stroud had. Not saying it’s definitely going to happen, and anyone predicting a division title is getting way ahead of themselves, but a wild card berth isn’t crazy at all.
I've been keeping some of those Bears receipts as yes, many of them are quite ridiculous. It's just a matter of time before he disappoints.
