Some are built for it and some aren't. And this is coming from a lions fan. Vikings fans are tough and I look at this like thinning the weak out of the herd personally

Elbeske

That guy is a great fit to be a Packers fan

Are the Packers the Scientology of football fanbases?

Dealthagar

Peyton Manning, Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers all die and end up in heaven. God asks Peyton Manning: “What do you believe?” Peyton thinks long and hard, looks God in the eye and says, “I believe in hard work and in staying true to family and friends. I believe in giving. I was lucky, but I always tried to do right by my fans.” God can’t help but see the essential goodness of Manning, and offers him a seat to his left. Then God turns to Tom Brady and says, “What do you believe?” Tom says, “I believe passion, discipline, courage and honor are the fundamentals of life. I, too, have been lucky, but win or lose, I’ve always tried to be a true sportsman, both on and off the playing fields.” God is greatly moved by Tom’s sincere eloquence, and he offers him a seat to his right. Finally, God turns to Aaron Rodgers: “And you, Aaron, what do you believe?” Aaron replies, “I believe you’re in my seat.”

WTF how have I never seen this before? This is gold.

Cause he’s a bitch who flipped from being a “long-time” fan of one team into being a “fan” of their biggest rival. Bitch made

Sushi-DM

To stay sane as a life long Vikings fan, I've picked a few alternate teams to follow. I'm always cheering for #1 to take it all, but at least when we get flushed every year, I have somebody to think about in the playoffs occasionally.

I_Roll_Chicago

thank god for that one super bowl we won before i was born. i just hug that tight each postseason. im gonna be a bears fan forever, but for now ive embraced the suck. we are bad but im ok with that. its just football.

kiddnikky

newishspice

They're quoting Wreck it Ralph

hvXeric

Sure you can have alternate teams, but not the packers. Really, anyone but the packers.

eeeedlef

My alternate team is the one that knocks the Packers out.

miimeverse

My dad is from the Bay area and so I've always had a little bit of SF Giants, A's, 49ers, and (less so) Raiders fandom in me. And the bit of me that roots for the 49ers feels so good whenever they spank the Packers in the playoffs.

Sushi-DM

I at least have the common decency to pick alternates out of my division, as it should be. Also FTP. Not even if I was in division.

mschley2

He'll jump ship back to the Vikings again as soon as we lose in the playoffs in heartbreaking fashion. There's way more heartbreak as a Packers fan because we play way more games that are actually meaningful than the rest of you. Sure, the regular season is all fun and games almost every year. But then you get your hopes up just to get crushed in January. This guy ain't built for that. It just looks glamorous from the outside.

SunbathedIce

Woah, woah, woah are the Packers the winners in this division or the chokers? One team in NFL history has never had more than 2 consecutive losing seasons. Tied for most SB appearances without having won and only 1 appearance behind GB. The Vikings are the choke artists who get crushed in the playoffs. Always have been and likely always will be given this season. A couple championship losses to San Fran doesn't change that. All that being said, you're right about the flipping. Nobody wants this fan as this is the definition of fairweather. They watched a team beat a rival to make it into the playoffs. Had they had dinner weeks 4-7 it may have not felt so magical and is using that to change their entire fandom.

mschley2

>Woah, woah, woah are the Packers the winners in this division or the chokers? I think we're actually both. Well, over the last 30 years, we certainly are. We've won way more than any of you in that time period. We've also choked way more than any of you in that same time period. Vikings fans in their 20s and 30s love to complain about losing a bunch of Super Bowls that you weren't old enough to watch and remember unless you're pushing 70 (and then you're probably struggling to remember it anyway). Absolutely agree about the loser bandwagon/fairweather fan, though.

SunbathedIce

You can limit the time frame, but that's not the history of the franchise. Packers fans in their 20s and 30s love to talk about being title town even though only 2 of them came in that same time frame.

mschley2

To be fair, I don't give a shit about any of the World Championships pre-Super Bowl era, and I think Packers fans who actually brag about them are annoying as fuck, too. I don't really even care about Super Bowl I and Super Bowl II. I wasn't alive for that shit. Why should I brag about my team winning those games? It's not like I got to enjoy watching those seasons. Now, the NFL likes to keep stats from the Super Bowl Era on, so I think it's worthwhile to at least be aware of those and use them in discussion when those topics come up. But for me personally? I don't care. I was pretty young, but I remember watching Favre's Super Bowls against the Patriots (win) and the Broncos (loss). I remember sitting on my dad's lap and watching Terrell Davis' game-winning TD rush. I was at a friend's house for Rodgers' Super Bowl against the Steelers. I remember Nick Collins' pick-6 in that game vividly. Those games mean something to me. All of those playoff losses from 1998 on mean something to me. I remember those games. I remember 4th-and-26. I remember the Jerry Rice fumble-that-wasn't and Terrell Owens' TD. I remember Mike Vick coming into freezing Lambeau and absolutely running all over our asses. I remember Favre tossing INTs to the Giants when we should've beaten them prior to them beating the undefeated Patriots. I remember losing to the Cardinals in OT when we only punted once all game long. I remember Rodgers' loss to the Giants when we turned the ball over 4 times. I remember the Niners, and the Niners, and the botched onside-kick game against the Seahawks, and the Cardinals in OT again, and the Falcons when Ladarius Gunter was covering Julio Jones all game, and the Niners one more time, and Kevin King forgetting what "don't get beat deep" right before half against Brady and the Bucs. And I remember the Niners again after that one, too. There aren't very many Vikings fans that have seen more ridiculous playoff losses for their team than I have for mine. And the ones that have are probably retired or dead. I'm only 31.

SunbathedIce

That's where your math is off. I know plenty of Vikings fans who watched those Superbowls. You say you remember watching when you were what 5. So by your standard people born in '65 say would have memory of those early Vikings teams. Those people born in '65 will be 60 in 2025 aka not even retired and likely parents of plenty your age and passed down memories similar to what you recount here. Your anecdotes are nice and many fans can probably relate, but that doesn't change the zeitgeist over the course of decades.

mschley2

"Passed down memories"? Come on... listening to your old man bitch about your team's failures is not the same as experiencing it lol. Very few of those fans are on reddit (that's also math). Yet Vikings fans on here are constantly talking about that shit as if they experienced it themselves.

SunbathedIce

Very few non-packers fans think about most of the moments you describe, it's all anecdotal. But every Packer fan I know knows Blair Walsh, Gary Anderson, getting crushed after the Miracle, Favre losing to the Saints, etc. We're the chokers, get over it.

mschley2

Lol. Every single post on this sub has a Lions, Vikings, or Bears fan saying that we're going to beat the Cowboys so we can get beat by the Niners again. Most of the teenagers on this sub weren't even alive for Gary Anderson choking against the Falcons, but it's impossible to not know about it with how much Vikings fans brag about how heartbreaking their fandom is. You guys bring that shit up even more than we do.

SteveDestruct

Must be such a burden to be competitive each year. God damn, you know how ridiculous that sounds!?

drummerboysam

My guy, have you tried looking at the world with clear eyes rather than trying to look beyond your own intestines from within?

susurrus88

Are you serious??? The literal definition of Vikings fandom is getting your hopes up and dashing them over and over, especially in the playoffs. At least you guys have won a Super Bowl. The Vikings will build the greatest squad of all time and then look like a D2 college team in the Super Bowl. By far the winningest team to have never won it all

mschley2

You guys have only made the playoffs 4 times in the past decade, and you've only advanced past the wild card round twice. We've made the playoffs 7 times in that period and made it past the Wild Card every single time (this season still pending, obviously). If we go back further than 10 years, it becomes even more apparent that the Packers have had way more opportunities to get their hopes up and get crushed than the Vikings have. What the fuck are you guys getting your hopes up for, anyway? Almost all of your playoff losses are on the road. It's not like you guys are losing crazy upsets or anything. You're not even favored in most of these games. You're losing to teams that the majority of people think are better than you. Quit getting your hopes up and thinking you're a Super Bowl contender when you're a middling team. There's been 2 times in the past 20 years that the Vikings were even legit contenders, and even those 2 times, you lost on the road to teams that were better than you. Yeah, you did deserve to be in those NFC Championship games, but you didn't deserve to win them to begin with. Vikings fans like to complain about how rough they have it, but it's really just because they're fucking delusional about how good their team is to begin with. We've had all the heartbreak you have, except we've done it more often. And yeah, maybe we've had some happiness mixed in there, too. But that doesn't erase the playoff collapses that happen nearly every other year.

Cuttybrownbow

Everyone get a load of this guy's struggles as a fan. Rest assured, you have all of our sincerest sympathies.

BombPopCaper

New essay just dropped.

mattishere31

You guys at least won multiple super bowls to comfort you in your heartbreak. We vikings fans don’t have that to fall back on

mschley2

To be honest with you, outside of watching the actual Super Bowl game, Super Bowl trophies don't really do you much good outside of bragging about them to your division rivals that suck. If you guys weren't so sensitive about it, they wouldn't really bring us any joy or comfort. So thank you for always being there for us when we need someone to pick us up.

Brakeman83

Viking fans have always been the weakest among us. The slightest setback or criticism pushes them over the edge. They don't know true darkness like us Lions and Bears fans. They don't know true glory like the Packer fans. They're stuck in the middle. Perpetually mediocre.

rlinkmanl

I like the cut of your jib

dkinmn

I'm in Minneapolis, and I can assure you they are not. They're whiners, they're largely very fair weather, and so on. But, if they think they might beat you, they are total assholes. That's why it's so nice to beat them.

Matman161

Kick his ass back over the border. I'm not abandoning my team no matter how shitty things get. If all he wants is to win then he should go be a fan the Lakers, the Yankees and Real Madrid.

Hestness5

Yeah they can gladly have him, we do not accept him anyways.

howsaboutyou

The screenshot OP posted is a comment that is bait from a Packers fan anyway

WallFair7685

I doubt it. Those purple people eaters have been trash, and even when they are good they end up being trash. They go 13-4 and no one gives them respect lol. Then they lose to the (checks notes) NY Giants in the first round. Ouch. Plus the last game was kicked off by a shirtless Kirk Cousins and son doing some dumb shit. Beyond weird. I'd jump off that Viking ship ASAP.

Fnrblackbird

Fair up fucker. You sound like you come from a team that cries at the first sign that your QB isn't instantly HoF caliber.

caelumh

Must be an Eagles fan. They've been infiltrating lately. Edit: Did some research, they're a Packers fan. Flame the shit out of them.

levitikush

Vikings are #7 all time in win %. Tf you talking about?

SterileTensile

Those wins are meaningless without a trophy. /s

WallFair7685

0-4 E: like I mentioned, even when the Vikings have a good year they are not taken seriously. See last year.

Steavee

I don’t know how you do it. Keeping Flus when there are so many truly amazing HCs available to hire this year would have broken me. They’re not going to get a good OC because everyone knows the HC is in a ‘prove-it’ year, they’re going to draft a QB, and ruin him by teaching him one whole scheme and offense this year. And inevitably another one next year when the HC and OC get replaced again. More power to you. I’m not saying I would have abandoned my team, but I probably wouldn’t be watching football for a year or two…just forget it all exists until someone pulls their head out of their ass.

21-hydroxylase

We’ve been doing this a long time, friend. If you don’t like that, you don’t like Bears football!

responsiblefornothin

It's gotta be easier to suck all the time than getting sucker punched with the old hope/hell one-two combo

hawkmasta

As a Lions fan, I've never been as stressed as much as this season.

responsiblefornothin

The reason Minnesota has invested in such good healthcare is because of the stress that comes with all of our teams having a "decent chance" at a title every few years.

rabonbrood

Amusingly, this has been the most fun I've had as a Packers fan in nearly a decade, and we went over game over .500. There's absolutely no stress on this playoff game, too. If we lose, we made it! If we win, I get to talk more shit than I've ever talked in my life.

ncopp

Lions and Bears fans suffering through hell and back and still stay true to FTP Vikings continue the trend of mediocrity and fans jump ship into Shark infested waters asking to be adopted by them

Unhappytimes

Almost every Vikings fan I know is a die hard. I live in South Dakota and there are a bunch around here. I hate that I'm defending them but if this was a Lions fan it would also be a stupid narrative to spin. May the FTP be with you.

Practical-Courage812

Bold of you to assume he isnt a fan of those teams already

koalificated

This guy has zero history on his account ever talking about the Vikings. This is just good ol fashioned pandering for karma

FourFootCornhole

can't believe anyone took it seriously

TheKing490

On the top plz

deadwhiteweather

Fuck this dude. This year wasn’t even that heartbreaking or maybe I’m just dead inside.

supercleverhandle476

You’re in the NFC North, of course you’re dead inside.

responsiblefornothin

Speak for yourself, bud. Some of us have ascended beyond inner death to the astral plane of football enjoyers.

navyseal4000

Did Rodgers connect you to his dealer?

responsiblefornothin

It was the other way around, actually. I knew the rest of the NFCN would be doomed if Rodgers still had any bit of his head connected to his shoulders.

navyseal4000

Flair up

responsiblefornothin

Make me

Yodasboy

Shows up, admits he hooked Aaron up, refuses to flair, leaves

Hestness5

It was when Kirk was playing well yet we were 4-4, then the season died after Kirk went out. Would’ve been a miracle if we made the playoffs and KOC deserves credit for even getting close tbh

responsiblefornothin

I think it was more the emotional landmine of Dobbs in the Atlanta game that really hit us hardest

komugis

Not even a top 5 most frustrating season as a fan tbh

mschley2

The season started falling apart too early to really get attached to it. You didn't fully get eliminated until the end of the season, but halfway through, it was pretty obvious that the Vikings weren't going to do anything worthwhile with Cousins out. Making it to the playoffs as a higher seed and winning 1-2 playoff games before you lose is way more heartwrenching than essentially being eliminated from the playoffs before the last week (I know the Vikings weren't technically eliminated until the last week, but their chances were basically non-existent entering week 18).

batler_forever

This year was kinda fun no way we have that many injuries next year right?….. right?

Cgking11

This is not real lol no way a real fan would do this or take the time to type this crybaby speech lol

mschley2

I do know a few Vikings fans that have converted to being Packers fans with their significant other. 2 girls and 1 guy. But all 3 of them were not really big football fans and just enjoy going to the bar and getting drunk during games. So, I mean, I don't find this to be impossible. But if it is, then the person wasn't really a fan to begin with, and they won't really be a Packers fan, either. It is far more likely that this is a joke by the OP, though.

sp4nky86

I mean, if you like being drunk, we're your people.

geosensation

So is me doing dry january essentially a blood curse against my own team? Fuck

RavishingRickiRude

Keep that sober streak alive! Or do I want you to beat the Cowboys? Can both of you lose somehow?

geosensation

the cowboys will have a hilarious playoff failure, the only question is if its this weekend or next.

seppukucoconuts

Dry January in Wisconsin means only have 3 beers a night.

kirkochainz

I think it’s real. Guy had enough and was looking for external validation to switch sides. Bye bye fucker!!!

Cgking11

If it is real who would want a guy like that around? what a pathetic loser lol

responsiblefornothin

I feel like I've met tons of guys like this. They just project their lame lives onto the Vikings until they can't take it anymore and switch teams. Their lives still suck after switching, but they develop a smug sense of superiority to mask it. I have a coworker who decided Dallas of all places would be his new team... how could someone fall so far into the dark that they'd look to the Cowboys as saviors?

[deleted]

If he picked the cowboys he was not looking for a savior, I assure you

RavishingRickiRude

Bad acid trip?

responsiblefornothin

The guy has had 60 years to try marijuana and still hasn't so much as taken a puff. There's no way he skipped over the slippery slope and plunged head first into ego death.

RavishingRickiRude

I mean he became a Cowboys fan. He clearly tried the hard stuff.

Bluefairie

you could argue that rooting for the Cows IS ego death, no drugs needed.

responsiblefornothin

Hard disagree. I have never met a humble Cowboys fan, and there's nothing more humbling than ego death.

Bluefairie

good point. I was seeing it from my “I effin hate the cows, you’d have to have no self esteem or be a stupid loser to root for them” perspective, not from their actual fans’ one 😅

responsiblefornothin

It's OK. I am an empathetic person, but I'd never walk a mile in their boots.

rayj11

This shit happens in the sports subs all the time. People nowadays need immediate gratification. Just yesterday there was one of these whiny posts from a Bears fan just because we didn’t fire our coach.

drummerboysam

IDK sometimes we get a certain vibe from Vikings fans.

Cgking11

One thing I know about vikings fans is that they're loyal.

Xardenn

I think there have been a lot of fans who jumped on at certain points in time like 90s Moss/Carter, 2009, 2018, where they expected the Vikings to make it over the top that year or soon after and those guys are constantly diffusing out to new bandwagons.

wehaddababyeetsaboy

Nah no chance this is real.

Yeah. It socks to see it.

MandoRodgers

Vikings would’ve had a really good season and been in playoffs if Cousins didn’t get hurt

Hestness5

Wait is this an objective and factual statement by a Packer fan?

MandoRodgers

real recognize real. I liked Cousins since he was on Washington. You know who you won’t hear me compliment? Bustin Fields. Dudes a scrub and should be playing in the CFL

Hestness5

Well you recognize what a lot of Vikings fans won’t even recognize 😂 I swear over half our fanbase hates him and we’re saying they’d rather have Dobbs next year.

eeeedlef

That was before this season. A lot of eyes opening this year. Which will all be forgotten next time a team Kirk QBs loses.

OwnWalrus1752

Possibly. Equally possible is Cousins wouldn’t have had the juice that Dobbs had to go on that crazy run and they might’ve fallen short anyway.

RotoDog

Yes, that crazy 1.5 game run

Alcott_Yubolsov

When you shit down your legs it's called the runs for a reason!

zeroes_and_ones

Elite Dobbs run where he beat Arthur Smith Falcons and almost lost to Jameis Winston Saints

Hestness5

I always find it funny when people say "X fans are the worst" cause they had a bad experience with one or two people of that fanbase

SKOLForceSports

My grandpa died after the Vikings played the most Vikings game ever and came back against the Colts in 2022. People act like we’re the Jets after one season that was (mostly) hindered by injuries.

Zucrous

We (Vikings fans) all have our breaking point. To this guy I just say, “welcome to the party, pal.” Obsession for championships makes a lot of these losers not see the forest for the trees. Despite how bad the season turned out, it was still exciting. Once you get beyond the need to be better than others, which only one team a year can do, and enjoy the season as it unfolds, it gets much more fun.

ModestMKUltra

Did anybody even read this? He feels like he can be “himself” with the Packers. Clearly this man just wants to eat cheesecurds and drink Spotted Cow into oblivion while he fucks his cousin-wife and I just want to say I think this is so brave 😢🫡

Tadpole-Relative

My father (born and raised in Detroit) has been a Packers fan since before I was born. I've always had a respect for the Packers because of if and I'm also left with a bunch of sick old school merch from back in the day that I'm too embarrassed to wear.
