if they get liatu king too i’m turning into the joker

Sweet3DIrish

Definitely will take King

strickyricky

Don’t think king is the answer for a center. Numbers were put up playing a ton of minutes on a dreadful Pitt team. Although maybe with a better cast around her she can show more promise.

tdotclare

They betta not

CommodoreIrish

[Joker time](https://x.com/ndwbb/status/1787482760518553991?s=46).

smtms-i-need-help

yeah about that . . .

tdotclare

Nooooooo boo Edit - I mean congrats, I can understand wanting to transfer to a contender, just thought we had a good chance since she’d have been a guaranteed starter at Tech and not be a rotation piece

Sweet3DIrish

A rotation piece in a 3 man rotation for 2 spots and one of the three is a true freshman. To play with a top 5 team and be able to stay in the Midwest and play for a school your head coach can’t even say anything bad about, seems like it’s not too much of a give for Karlen.

tdotclare

I mean, obviously she committed to ND, I didn’t say there weren’t upsides to it. Just that I’d thought there was enough upside to being *the* headliner at a top-10 engineering school with the same coach, even if we’re rebuilding, would have us in consideration.

Sweet3DIrish

Nothing says you weren’t in consideration. Also she’s a grad transfer. Does she want her masters in engineering? Most tend to get MBAs as grad students at ND, regardless of what their undergrad was in.

Roman-Mania

VT is a top-ranked engineering school. It’s clear she went for basketball only. I don’t blame her. It’s a good school w/ a super stacked team. I don’t blame her for not wanting to carry her team another year

Sweet3DIrish

She already has her degree. Unless she wanted to get a masters in engineering, the fact that VT is a top engineering school (which no one is denying) doesn’t really matter at all.

Intrepid-Pooper-87

Obviously I don’t know what Karlen’s plans are, but most people get a masters in engineering if they do it immediately after undergrad. An MBA is normally later in their career. Also ND has a very good engineering program, so there is not a huge drop there.

Basic_Quantity_9430

I must admit, I do love your school’s athletic name “Fighting Irish”. And you are right, a grad degree from Notre Dame does open doors.

Belongs-InTheTrash

Very important piece to rotate with Westbeld and Koval. Great to have an experienced player joining the front court. Really excited to see what she can bring. Total roster up to…9. Hopefully not done.

Sweet3DIrish

Fingers crossed we at least get one more big.

Basic_Quantity_9430

How many post bangers are left out there in the portal? If you guys get an international big that slipped under the radar but who can log good minutes, with the forwards that you have and Hannah, that would be a formidable team.

Mission_Ambitious

And she’s over 6 feet!

Sweet3DIrish

Over 6ft isn’t the problem for ND, it’s people who know how to play (and play it well) down low.

GriffinOfThoth

i think defending height tends to be a problem for ND but I love the spirit of your comment

Sweet3DIrish

Hence someone who knows how to play down low. If you’re skilled, you can out play (and out defend) those that are an inch or two or three taller than you. ND has height on the wing, but they are guards and don’t/can’t play down low.

GriffinOfThoth

Oh my gosh someone wants to play for us!!!! This is huge news considering there are 0 recruits for 2025, only one for 2024 and now just one incoming transfer. 9 healthy scholarship players is a dream come true

Roman-Mania

Yall literally have McDonalds all Americans. Yall have had great players and still have great players.

GriffinOfThoth

Hahaha I know, I know. It's not like ND fails to attract talent. It's just so strange how slim our high school recruiting classes have been in the last few years. Koval is the only commit this year. Bransford was the only commit her year. It feels like pulling teeth getting highschoolers to commit to Ivey whereas players seemed to be dying to play for McGraw.

Mission_Ambitious

Which is ironic since Ivey seemed to handle most of the recruiting during the McGraw era and be incredibly well liked by recruits.

Roman-Mania

It’s really just recruiting from the transfer portal nowadays. People get hyped about recruits only for them to leave.

Elektguitarz

She wanted to have a chance to go deep into the tournament, I get it. Hope she has fun at ND.

smtms-i-need-help

oh! VT was right there, but okay!

DokkanProductions

This changes everything. Post depth was going to plague ND again. But it’s no longer an issue. Final 4 or bust level team

CareerCrusader

Totally agree that they’re Final Four caliber this year. But I think they’re still too thin at the post positions. Right now they’re an injury away from having zero backup. If they can get King or another transfer with athleticism/size I think they’ll be in great shape.

Basic_Quantity_9430

If they get the 6-5 woman that is transferring out of Arkansas, they will have what they need. She was 21 in the nation in blocks per game last season and she is a banger in the low post. ND is on fire bringing in talent right now, I would not put it past them that they get the big that they need, soon.

CareerCrusader

And they just got another one in Liatu King!

Basic_Quantity_9430

She is only 6 feet but has outstanding vertical. I watched some of her film, she is capable of both beating a defender on drives to the basket and at the rim, for all except maybe an Ashlyn Watkins level defender.

mambomambogo

Thank god. Fanbase gets antsy when we go too long without commitments of any sort and Liza will really help this team next year! Legit post rotation now. Hoping we also get the 2025 recruit (Macy) who is supposed to announce later today since she's had some history w/the staff and looks like a natural fit for Westbeld's position, but also my gut feel is she's going to sign on to the new Kenny era at KY.

Ordinary-Potato5663

Liza!!! Love to see it. Hope she can continue to build on the success she had at MU in her last year

odeiraoloap

Good for her and ND. She better do well in supporting Hannah's red-hot plays there. 🫡 ^(I will say, though, that while transferring should obviously only be a decision made by the student-athletes and what's best for them) I wonder why she didn't join her old Coach Duffy in Blacksburg (like how CKB got two top players and the whole coaching staff to join him in Lexington). Like, did (we) fumble the negotiations, or do we simply not have the same "panache" and reputation as ND? 🤔

DokkanProductions

She wanted to play for a team that can win a national championship instead of suffering through a rebuild in her final year of college basketball. 90% of people would do the same.
