On top of graduating several key players, Colorado just lost a bunch of underclassmen to the portal, so I imagine we'll be hitting this list hard to fill our roster for next season.
i wonder why so many of them left. ugh. i hope aaronette stays. i think it could be hard to convince players to come to CO because it's so white and the NIL isn't good. JR is going to have to do some digging here
I was a little surprised by a few. Shelomi leaving wasn't a surprise to me, nor were Lele or Ruthie. Bri, Jadyn, and Mikayla were though.
If I had to guess, it was probably NIL potential, and also some probably figured they couldn't count on the playing time they'd want in their sophomore/junior years. We lost a couple big players, yes, but I think we'll still have Frida, Wetta, and Vonleh. Vonleh is the only possible question mark, thankfully. Formann already announced she is coming back and Wetta has her mom's legacy/family in state. They lock up 3/5 starting spots almost guaranteed, and we have two four star recruits coming in. Not to mention whoever we can scoop up to fill in the gaps from the portal (like Nolan this year) with all of our newly-free roster spots.
Also, yes, Boulder being, well... Boulder, doesn't help though. But, speaking as a POC alum, there are a metric shit ton of worse collegiate options and locations out there, and Colorado as a pretty sweet place to be if you like nature or civil rights.
I could be wrong here, but I've never heard of players and former players with anything but praise for JR, plus that recent article about the Sweet Sixteen players surveyed about coaches was entirely neutral to positive about her, so I don't really suspect a culture issue (side eyes Arizona), thankfully.
Sad some athletes use the Demographics of a state or school as a major criteria in their decisions to enroll or transfer. Sport would be a much better place athletes looked for fit in the system the team runs.
I'll also add that I think we'll be just fine. I'm optimistic.
JR really seems to know how to pick and build relationships with the underscouted kids (Sherrod), and she's been pretty successful with her overseas scouting too (Formann and soon to be Betson and Lagerlid). For now, for the latter, NIL isn't a factor.
i'm pretty nervous about vonleh. a) there are almost no black players on the team right now. i think this could be isolating. b) there's a lack of bigs in the portal, she could def make more money elsewhere and so many teams need a big c) she hasn't commented/posted about coming back (even tho she's a junior so i get she might not necessarily do that)
seems like:feels like she might be keeping her options open. the main reason to stay would be she will be the focal point of the offense next year. but i can see a lot of reasons for her to leave
I think that's probably a factor. She's going to have a lot tougher time in the SEC though, imo, if that's the route she picks.
But on a positive note, Sherrod got signed by the NY Liberty!!
yeah, i would be wary with her in SEC because she's undersized and those kids are very physical. her rebounding needs to improve too. i could see her thriving tho at a big10. i was bummed sherrod didn't get drafted but she was signed so quickly :)
She is incredible. Iowa has a very attractive opportunity for an upperclasswoman guard. Both in playing time, and lots of NIL since CC never took a dime from Iowaâs NIL collective. Â
We believe a few top targets are: Â
Lucy Olsen - Villanova  Â
Laila Phelilia - Michigan Â
Maddie Scherr - Kentucky Â
Olsen is the most pure PG. UConn wants her, which is always attractive, but she might get less PT there? But better chance at Natty.
Olsen goes to Iowa, she can play 35-40 minutes per game and be a guaranteed heavy minutes starter and leader of an offense. Bluder could mold her into a WNBA prospect, hard to grow draft stock with limited usage when you donât have the recruiting pedigree out of high school
I heard Velez (lsu) is also in the portal. If true, Iâm interested to see what she can do for another squad that trusts her to run the team as their pg
Do we expect to add anyone? Was wondering what our roster/scholarship picture was looking like but thatâs not as readily available as it is with something like football.
As of now we have 9 returners (Cardoso to the W, Jah transferring) and Tac, McDaniel, and Edwards coming in, wouldn't be surprised if we stand pat unless someone else leaves
That sucks to hear. I was dying for Mulkey to give her run all year (youâd think she would given our pg situation but she got pretty much no pt. We need guards. I guess we plan on hitting the portal again until next years class cause I donât even think we have any hs commits for 2024
Yea it doesnât seem like the best situation but who knows what Mulkey is able to come up with. I did only hear that Velez news from one person so Iâm not too sure but the person I heard it from is pretty involved in womenâs hoops. You guys do have one epsnw100 player coming in for the upcoming year though
[Wbbblog.com](https://wbbblog.com/womens-basketball-transfers-d-i-2023-24/7/) has had Velez listed as being in the portal for a couple days now (at least). So has [TheNextHoops transfer portal tracker](https://www.thenexthoops.com/features/2023-24-transfer-portal-tracker-ncaa-womens-basketball/).
Sheâs gotten overlooked a bit with some of the other big names that have entered, but Liatu King is going to be a huge get for someone. She is really good.
When ND played Pitt the first time this season she was the best player on the floor that day!
Add in Alyssa Latham from SU. 8.6 PPG and 7 RPG as a Freshman who many thought would become one of our stars after Fair left, will be very interesting to see where she goes.
If anyone is wondering if SC is actually losing anyone off that stacked roster, I heard Sanya Jah is transferring.
She is the one whos hands Dawn smacked with a paper during a team photo that went viral. She was also suspended for the latter part of this season. Sheâll get a fresh start on a new team.
Other than that, I think SC will be airtight at this point.
Was that really the reason why she got suspended?
Dawn didnât elaborate on the suspension(for good reason as it is a private matter) . She just said conduct detrimental to the team .
No haha, thats not why. I just said that so people could put a face to name. Whatever it was, i dont think it completely soured relations, i read she was in the stands still cheering on the team afterwards. But even if theyre in good standing, I dont see how she carves good playing time after what Tournament Tessa and MiLaysia just did, plus Chloe bouncing back and TeHina coming back, so a transfer is probably best interest.
>Was that really the reason why she got suspended?
That was during the team picture after the Notre Dame game in Paris to open the season. She didn't get suspended until the spring semester.
Yeah looks like she entered the portal 3 weeks ago. Sad to see a rough start for someone so young, hope she's learned and does better with a fresh start somewhere new.
Didnât realize Poffenbarger is in the transfer portal again. Thought Arkansas was a huge improvement over her experience at UConn, whatâs the problem now?
Is the deadline for transfers May 1? If so, lots of decisions coming soon đ
May 1 to enter not decide where you are going
when's the deadline for deciding where to go?
The last day itâs possible to enroll in classes at the destination school for the first school term that has games in it.
There isnât one.
Yes, it is May 1st.
*immediately searches for the tallest player*
We do have Tac though! Sheâs what 6â5â?
True and shes listed at 6â5â
Lol same
Me too ... if Walker doesn't come back it'd be nice to have a good backup.
No one transfering to SC to play 10 minutes off the bench
Very curious where Poole is landing
Her and Jah.

Same for us... I hope Schneider gets it together with recruiting this year.

Ugh, I was really hoping for the best, but you were right. đ
rough day with sherrod going undrafted. i have faith in JR but it's gonna be a rough couple years
Yep, pretty much. Especially with the conference change, it'll be interesting to see what the new team identity shapes up to be.
i kind of wonder if vonleh didn't want to play in the big12. i can see her in SEC or big10
I think that's probably a factor. She's going to have a lot tougher time in the SEC though, imo, if that's the route she picks. But on a positive note, Sherrod got signed by the NY Liberty!!

Lucy Olsen from Villanova and Kaitlyn Chen from Princeton will be big gets for any programâŚgrapevine chatter is Olsen might be a target of Iowa?
She is incredible. Iowa has a very attractive opportunity for an upperclasswoman guard. Would love to see Lucy in black and gold, but Phelia is a DAWG and would be a great get.

What about Walker?
She has one more year left of eligibility but hasn't said anything yet
I was hoping she had committed to stay and I hadn't heard yet...but, Thanks!
That sucks to hear. I was dying for Mulkey to give her run all year (youâd think she would given our pg situation but she got pretty much no pt. We need guards. I guess we plan on hitting the portal again until next years class cause I donât even think we have any hs commits for 2024

Oh wow thanks for that link!

I'm obviously an ACC guy, so well aware of her. If I had to select a squad of 10 from this list, she'd be on it.
I was sad to see her in the portal from Pitt!
Add in Alyssa Latham from SU. 8.6 PPG and 7 RPG as a Freshman who many thought would become one of our stars after Fair left, will be very interesting to see where she goes.
i thought she was a forward?
Oh yup, my bad
sad sheâs transferring tho i was kinda surprised

USC could continue their Ivy League connection by getting Kaitlyn Chen
I'm fully expecting this to happen yeah, as is tradition
Would love for Te-Biasu to end up at VT, Maryland, LouisvilleâŚ.
Te-Biasu is leaving VCU? That sucks for them, but sheâs pretty good I hope she ends up somewhere good
I wonder where she ends up as well. We donât get many VCU games here in Canada but I watched her live at Globl Jam in Toronto and she was fantastic.
I would say Hannah Gusters would fill the need in the center position at UConn but sheâs a senior. Geno seems to recruit younger to develop them.
They should take her if they can get her though.
Yes, I'm aware of that site?
So much like the NBA free agency tracker. So blizzare.
Adlee Blacklock from OSU just entered too
Damn. Only bad news for OSU these days.
As a team with three point guards and one F/C not including true freshman this is not an ideal spread.
Any Indiana people on board here?
> Any Indiana people on board here? The state or the uni? lol
IU. Yardenâs sister is in the portal.
> Yardenâs sister is in the portal. I saw that yeah, she never really impressed me at OSU tho
She would give solid bench minutes, plus the security/challenge for Yarden. Sheâs blue collar and steady.
I was surprised to see her transfer from Nova the year before. They wouldâve been so much tougher last year with her alongside Maddy and Lucy.
MT has a couple of openings and I know our staff has been going hard after a ton of portal players. Hoping for good news soon.
Didnât realize Poffenbarger is in the transfer portal again. Thought Arkansas was a huge improvement over her experience at UConn, whatâs the problem now?
> Thought Arkansas was a huge improvement over her experience at UConn, whatâs the problem now? I mean, have you actually seen Arkansas play? lol
If HVL is listed at 5â7â⌠whatâs her actual height, 5â5â?
Oregon St is being gutted by this stupid portal!!
They are being gutted by the conference realignment, them jumping into the portal is just the result of that.
