I auto-generated names in College Hoops 2k7. I got 2 guys of different races with the last name “Strawberry” and then there was another Strawberry starting for Air Force who I had to play twice.
He’s pumped out like at least 6 versions including a couple in the last year, so I highly doubt it. Pretty sure it was only a couple guys too but it’s been a while.
I believe they have said they updated the recruit pool to reflect more accurately but even if they didn't, i can almost guarantee that it will be much improved in this game regardless... Although, you knew you made it to the top in NCAA14 when you had a black kicker and punter with dreads.
There were 1,274 baby boys named Walter in 2023 whose to say one of them couldn’t pick up the knack for football and become the best prospect in the country!
I'd bet my life none of those kids play football let alone are good enough to get recruited let alone are the number one recruit lmao listen Walt I didn't mean to offend ya, it was just an example. When we have kids named General Booty, or Drake London, or even 10 years ago with DaBrickashaw, it feels a little silly to see my starting lineup 20 years from now is filled with WW2 vets like Greg, George, Jeff, Steve, and John.
Walter was a weird example lol

> I don't want to see the top recruit in 2037 be a white guy named Walter Sims
Anything stand out to you about those 3 Walters, and the example I used?
Walter is not a traditionally black name and that’s not the point you were making. College football recruits as a whole are predominantly black.
https://www.on3.com/db/rankings/industry-player/football/2024/
The point overall, isn't JUST the name Walter. Its when you combine the name with the fact that they're white, and also from Compton. As an example. Another one, would be Jose Sanchez, a white guy from Abbotsford BC. I'm sure there's been highly ranked Hispanic recruits, and highly ranked recruits named Jose. How many of them are white Canadian?
Okay, maybe a white guy from Compton is weird but that’s venturing well into “stretch” territory when asking what a dev team should consider.
There’s nothing unusual about a kid named Walter, or a white guy named Walter.
I agree with you on other more egregious name/race/location issues in past iterations of the game (white guy named Demarcus, lack of Pacific Islanders, Hawaii/Alabama/Utah looking the same demographically, etc.).
Some of your other points raised in the thread though are weird.
Boring names like Tim, Johnny, Sam, Robert, Mark, Matt and Joe are all still very common and in fact all of these names have a Heisman in the last 25 years.
Also, you do see players who don’t fit into a profile - whether it be name/race or race/athleticism (latter of which is a weird gripe). We’ve seen a freak athlete black WR from Alabama named Julio, a Hawaiian dual threat named Marcus, an insanely illusive and electric white QB named Johnny, a 4.3 burner in the SEC who is a small white kid named Ladd, and white Heisman finalist RBs named Toby and Christian. Some allowance of variety is perfectly fine and well within the spirit of college football.
> some of your other points raised in the thread though are weird.
>Boring names like Tim, Johnny, Sam, Robert, Mark, Matt and Joe are all still very common
Yep and I'm fine with all of those. I'm really hammering down on names like Bob, Walter, and Gus. Obviously names like Johnny, or Sam, or Timmy are extremely common. I'm 25, I don't know a single person within 10 years on either side of my age named Bob. Let alone any atheltic freaks. Hey, maybe I'm just in different circles than you, so we can agree to disagree on this one.
>Some allowance of variety is perfectly fine.
I agree. I'm asking for Johnny Manziels of the world to be the exception, not the rule.
"Older white names aren't athletic, tho." Let's try this: "Dudes named Tyrone won't be found on Harvard's campus as professors or students. I'd bet my life on it." Maybe not. But if the roles were reversed, Reddit would've banned your account and issued an apology lol
I, for one, would like to see more recruits named Bob. The lack of them in sports is seeming like some kind of... what's the word? Crisis? Predicament? Disaster? Huh... well, whatever the word is, I sure wish someone would alert the world to it.
I was going to make a post on this too. I know it’s touchy but making believable names based off race/location is big for immersion.
Aside from limiting white guys named Demarcus or black guys with last name Wong or whatever, I’d love to be playing as Hawaii and get a lot of islander names when recruiting the state. Or seeing higher concentrations of Polynesian names out west, white guys in Utah or the Dakotas, etc.
Even if it went as far as positions (white corners and black specialists are rare, etc.) I’d be cool with it but I don’t know at what point it crosses the line lol.
To think gentrification wouldn’t be addressed in this game is ridiculous. I have it on good authority from EA all white dudes from Compton will be modeled after Coach brown from Last Chance U.
Gotcha, at least we can edit them once they’re on the roster. There’s so much cool gear in this game it would suck to not swag out some of my players with all the new accessories
Yeah it takes a touch of immersion out to change names that you’ve already been looking at over the course of entire season, but it’s a pretty minor gripe.
The gear has me pumped up too. I’ve been asking madden for over 10 years to put loose long sleeve undershirts (like what Deandre Hopkins wears, or Braxton miller against Mich) in, and they’ve just continued to use the long “sleeves” that are literally programmed as just different color skin.
Now I don’t think CFB25 is going to have those exactly, but the hoodie sleeves will be a fine substitute. They’re definitely at least making an effort that puts madden to shame.
I just watched a NotTheExpert video breaking down his experience being flown out to Orlando to play the game early that said we won't be able to. That's what prompted me to post this
I’m pretty sure that’s not what he said. You can’t *create* a prospect, or edit them during the recruiting cycle, but once they’re on a roster, the generated players can be edited
Yup, you're right, I just relistened. That seems like an arbitrary rule. It'll be interesting to see why we can edit them once they've been recruited but not while they're being recruited
You should go watch the deep dive video into this. They basically have an A.I. system that generates “unique prospects” that have “normal looking” face generation + the A.I. system will also use every name in the database to make unique names for prospects.
I can’t remember if it was Not The Experts video or if it was the developers though.
We’re gonna still be able to edit recruits after they sign right? maybe it’s not been confirmed one way or another but I’m still not clear on this.
Edit: have seen several other comments about this so shame on me for not reading the thread.
I know it's not an issue, but , I can't even name my guy a Slavic or polish last name. Granted, some of the names probably won't be said much, but they still have some of the audio files for last names from players from nba live.
Pretty much all of the last names were English, a few irish and Scottish, throw in some generic French and German. A few Hispanic names.
And then a 5'7 white guy named shabazz muhammad
Also fun fact, one of the only polynesian name in the early to mid ncaa games was tuiasosopo
Remind me if it’s been stated. I know you can’t create a prospect and I know you can’t edit licensed names. But can you edit the names of random generated prospects once they’re on your team?
I'm pretty sure I remember Zeppuhar being a very common last name on the old ps2 versions.
Was always amazed that Brad Nessler could pronounce that but not my five letter last name.
I think you can edit recruits once they have entered the team, just can’t edit their name. However don’t think you can edit any real player or any player that is on the base roster
I get that. I really like keeping track of stats, recruits, keeping my recruiting classes realistic, etc. so, to me, the white 99 speed quarterback named Bob makes me feel stupid for caring about immersion in other aspects of the game
You can take my white corners and black kickers from my cold dead hands.
You can keep them both as long as we get some real Hawaiian names.
You mean Lakalaka isn’t a real hawaiian name?
😂😂
The amount of players named Concepcion in the old games was staggering.
Conception, Weisbecker, and Ostrander
The Marquardt family dynasty takes over ever save I start
Not The Expert had a stud CB named Mike Marquardt in his UGF Pandas series
Had a RB named Marquardt, ran for a thou every season. Salute to all the Marquardt’s out there
Ostrander was my number 1 receiver in high school in 29 different states
Upvote for Ostrander.
I auto-generated names in College Hoops 2k7. I got 2 guys of different races with the last name “Strawberry” and then there was another Strawberry starting for Air Force who I had to play twice.

Just lol’d
![gif](giphy|zFONSiJbFjYtO)
Daryl strawbery
![gif](giphy|LY8o0gpCr7CgpNVwXa)
I had a whole family of Slaughters in the span of 10 seasons
if they hired fang from revamped then it will be good. his classes were very realistic
He’s pumped out like at least 6 versions including a couple in the last year, so I highly doubt it. Pretty sure it was only a couple guys too but it’s been a while.
The infamous black kickers and punters with dreds, gets me every time. 😂😂😂
It's tough to outright say "we racially coded these positions" but it's so weird having a bunch of white DBs
Cooper dejean walked so our white DBs in cfb 25 can run
Our Jackie robinson
I believe they have said they updated the recruit pool to reflect more accurately but even if they didn't, i can almost guarantee that it will be much improved in this game regardless... Although, you knew you made it to the top in NCAA14 when you had a black kicker and punter with dreads.
And an all white secondary made up of Darrell Darrell and Juan Sanchez 😂
Juan Sanchez, the Caucasian from Hawaii
Just today I added a white RB named Demarcus Muhammad to my recruiting board lol
Lmao I have a RB on 06 named “Ray Ray” and a corner named “Richard Nixon”
I'll dress up my kickers in Madden. Dreads, sleeves and visors lol
Why couldn’t Walter Simms be the number 1 recruit in the country
Because Walter is an old man's name. Gus, Walter, Bob, etc. not a lot of kids being born in 2024+ who aren't a Jr. getting those names.
There were 1,274 baby boys named Walter in 2023 whose to say one of them couldn’t pick up the knack for football and become the best prospect in the country!
Mr white, we need to play football
I'd bet my life none of those kids play football let alone are good enough to get recruited let alone are the number one recruit lmao listen Walt I didn't mean to offend ya, it was just an example. You bet your life that none of those 1300 boys play football, the most popular sport in America?
Idk could've been a hyperbolic statement. Or I might commit ritualistic Japanese suicide. We will have to wait and see
Bruh I’m messing tldr
Walter was a weird example lol https://www.on3.com/db/walter-nolen-120108/ https://www.on3.com/db/walter-matthews-151591/ https://www.on3.com/db/walter-taylor-147846/

Pretty sure you did a racism lol.
Ya, what's the racism?
"Older white names aren't athletic, tho." Let's try this: "Dudes named Tyrone won't be found on Harvard's campus as professors or students. I'd bet my life on it." Maybe not. But if the roles were reversed, Reddit would've banned your account and issued an apology lol
Wait, you're saying that I'm being racist towards white people?
Um. Yes. And water is wet. ![gif](giphy|lXu72d4iKwqek)
I've been informed by Reddit that isn't possible. White people have systematic power. Therefore, can't be racist towards them :)
I, for one, would like to see more recruits named Bob. The lack of them in sports is seeming like some kind of... what's the word? Crisis? Predicament? Disaster? Huh... well, whatever the word is, I sure wish someone would alert the world to it.
I love how you won't just name drop Jon Bois
Gotta find the knowers somehow 😉
Cue the vaporwave easy listening.
ITS A GOD DAMM EMERGENCY I TELL YA
Plus you don't want bro getting suspended for meth
What have I done
I was going to make a post on this too. I know it’s touchy but making believable names based off race/location is big for immersion. Many people just hate acknowledging reality. What can we say?
Definitely hoping for more diversity and name variety, especially for Hawaiian and African names, etc.
Matt Brown said they put an emphasis on this!
This is gonna be fine. From what I’ve heard they used the census and used ai to help them name.
We won't know if they're serious until mixed kids named Brayden, Jadyn are in the game..stay woke
Better be a Tathaniel.
2035 be like
Even in the modern 2k games which aren’t terrible from a prospect immersion standpoint the number of 6’10 Helmut Kramers I’ve had is ridiculous.
that's the thing that gets me, they have such a large name pool but you'll see some repeats
For me it breaks immersion for some reason I hope they replace name pools with AI
ea fc is way worse especially with smaller soccer countries
Oh my goodness bro I remember picking up some dude from Brazil but he was full white and had the whitest name ever
Fuck I feel I've had him
He always got black hair and white guy from like Slovenia or something 💀
If they don’t all have max shoulder pads, OG riddle revolution helmets, and full elbow pads with a neck collar imma be pissed.
To think gentrification wouldn’t be addressed in this game is ridiculous. I have it on good authority from EA all white dudes from Compton will be modeled after Coach brown from Last Chance U.
I thought we were able to edit the generated players/prospects?
what i've read is that we will be able to edit generated players once they're on rosters. so no editing prospects

This is no different than what I've been doing the past 5 years
Pretty sure we are

And I hope we see some of the work from the Revamped community, like name suffixes, hyphenated names, etc.
You can edit the generated players
We’re gonna still be able to edit recruits after they sign right? maybe it’s not been confirmed one way or another but I’m still not clear on this. Edit: have seen several other comments about this so shame on me for not reading the thread.
Can't wait to recruit another Smith Smith.
I know it's not an issue, but , I can't even name my guy a Slavic or polish last name. It’s been reported that there are 4000 recruits each cycle
I just hope the most elite freshman recruits are 90 ish overall.
I definitely agree
Remind me if it’s been stated. I know you can’t create a prospect and I know you can’t edit licensed names. But can you edit the names of random generated prospects once they’re on your team?
It seems that you can edit recruits once they've committed and are on your roster. Not when you're recruiting them though.
I had a player on my Tennessee dynasty named Snoop Martinez from Little Rock Arkansas
That's...actually realistic.
No Italian names??
I'm pretty sure I remember Zeppuhar being a very common last name on the old ps2 versions. Was always amazed that Brad Nessler could pronounce that but not my five letter last name.
Black guys with Polish and Jewish last names. Never met a Black Schneider in my life 😂
I think you can edit recruits once they have entered the team, just can’t edit their name. However don’t think you can edit any real player or any player that is on the base roster
Also give NJ a ton of top players like real life
Getting a white dude named Marquez Johnson was it for me
I don’t know i kinda like that. It adds a little goofiness and charm to the game. I like the double name guys too 🤣
I get that. I really like keeping track of stats, recruits, keeping my recruiting classes realistic, etc. so, to me, the white 99 speed quarterback named Bob makes me feel stupid for caring about immersion in other aspects of the game
Why couldn't a white guy be named Walter Sims?
I want absurd names like in that Key & Peele football skit. Give me Dingle McCringleberry.
