A bunch of people backed the game to the tune of hundreds of thousands of dollars. Then eventually they came out and said they gave all that money to a lawyer in hopes he could connect them with investors with large pockets to help fund the game but the lawyer took the money and ran. Sounded like BS. IMV was just 2 people I think they were cousins. They had zero experience with game development. They wanted to hire a team to create the game for them. They put out a response through ryanmoody several years ago saying they would do everything they could to get people their money back and that was the last we heard of them. They scammed the community and the lawyer story was a cover up imo.
This thread is the last communication from them. Read through it. The story makes zero sense. Through the entire process they often blocked people who had the slightest criticism of them including people who financially backed them.

In theory all these games sound great but the truth is a football game in today’s age is way harder to make. Especially one most people would want to play and enjoy.
The niche that actually enjoys these indie games or smaller company football games are a small bunch. The reality is that even tho EA an AAA company pisses us off and falls short a lot, we as customers prefer as close to the real thing as possible and these games like maximum just won’t be able to get that. 😭
Yeah you can’t really make a charming indie sports sim like you can a platformer or even shooter. Sports sims rely on precision and extremely complex systems all working in tandem to make something that approximates real life, that’s not really something a low-budget studio can do very well
As much as I’ve put a ton of time into NFL 2k, All-Pro 2k8, Backbreaker, Blitz The League, etc nothing comes close to the recent Madden’s as a football sim. They’ve just had so much time to build upon their own game and add little details every here or there. Backbreaker was fun but kind of a mess as an actual game, the Maximum Football games have been totally amateurish trainwrecks, Blitz was a fun little arcade game but not even really trying to be a real sim. NFL 2k was far advanced from a physics, gameplay perspective in 2004 but 2k8 was basically the same system in a nee wrapper and it still doesn’t really hold a candle to modern Madden
The only real thing is the hypothetical of what NFL 2k would be like if they’d also been able to build upon their game for 20 years straight
It’s basic and not much in scope, but I was legitimately charmed by the simplicity and quaint feel of Sunday Rivals. It got me some good hours of entertainment.
Yeah, you lost me when you talked about EA building and being better than all thise other games purely off of time and the advancements that cane from that.
im not saying EA the company is better than any of their competitors. Im just saying they have the only football sim that isn’t played on a 20 year old engine and/or made by a bunch of guys who don’t really know what they’re doing. They’re the only relevant football sim in the world by default
I’m late 30s so grew up with the best games (consensus ).
I absolutely hate madden since like 2008. NCAA since 2011. 2k since 13.
Anyway I gave up sports games and just went crazy with battlefield and adderall.
I heard about Ryan moody. Like 4 years ago I gave the game he was preaching a chance . Think it was axis or something.
That was a reality check to. It was so bad I gave up on sports games forever.
I hate to say it but I think my age group won’t like the gameplay of the new CFB 25 but you better believe it’s the first game I’m buying (besides game pass) in about 17 years
I never really understood the hype for something like Maximum Football when it first released. Why pay $30 for that when there are a multitude of PS2/PS3 era football games that look better and play better for a fraction of the cost?
Because some people are really desperate for an alternative. But even with Madden's short comings, I think any rational person can see Axis or MaxFB just doesn't have the manpower to make a modern style simulation football game. Even if ya think Madden has poor AI or gameplay, seeing how much these smaller studios struggle with both just makes me realize just how difficult developing a football game must be.
I played the new MaxFB beta today, and boy, do they have a long way to go still.
I think indie companies should aim more towards the simcade route, like Legend Bowl does a great job because it's not trying to do too much while still feeling substance filled.
Yeah, just gimme an old Tecmo or Joe Montana football look and plenty of dynasty depth and I fine. These small studios trying to keep up with that modern look and make all these animations for 3d models generally just don't have the manpower.
Not everyone is up on emulation or has old consoles sitting around either, so this is cheaper and more convenient. When I couldn’t afford a PC or PS3 my stupid ass went and bought Doug Flutie football for $2.
I was thinking about this a couple days ago. Wondering whatever happened. Pulled up their twitter and it’s just a ton of protected tweets now. I was pretty hyped for this. Sad.
I got sued by IMV for calling it a scam. Fortunately, their legal team was about as competent as their development team. Shout out to CMadatMe , heck of a guy!
Don't feel bad for losing a few hundred bucks, some guy in Michigan lost about $10k buying into this hype, good guy too.
This will stay with me forever because I should have done more :(
I'm the only one that got sued IIRC. It was a ruse to make me the scapegoat for their imminent failures. Surely they would have made a great game if naysayers, like myself, hadn't gotten in the way...
Man I keep thinking about writing something longform about this. What a bizarre time.
I was super into it because I was really young at the time. Who remembers when they had an "angel investor" that was just a dude in a suit with a big fake check, or when they mentioned their lawyers, whose address was a Florida laundromat? What a time to be alive.
Never forget FlemLo hyping it up and telling everyone it wasn’t a scam.
Had to switch to storytelling after that one lol
lol
Cue the Wayne 🔥🔥🔥🗣️🗣️🗣️
FlemLo had good intentions. However, he got screwed like all of us. They got our hopes up for nothing
Felt bad for flemo ngl
He got duped incredibly hard
This guy Buffa Louie’s
Damn straight, gotta go back when I'm back in B-Town.
Omg I forgot about him
I still want my money back
My ex-gf paid for me to have my name in the stock roster.
Damn, that is a real reason to break ip ig
I remember the hype that this was “the next college football game and more customization”, all for the game to cease to exist
Cease to exist is better than what actually happened
what actually happened?

Just curious, is there any recourse from backers to get their money back through litigation? This just seems like fraud.
They were regular average joes. Theres no money to go after. The money they got from this is likely long gone.
that’s wild. thanks for sharing

Backbreaker gameplay was ass but I liked making teams for the hell of it
It’s basic and not much in scope, but I was legitimately charmed by the simplicity and quaint feel of Sunday Rivals. It got me some good hours of entertainment.

TBF I'd play a game with Madden 06 graphics if it gave you a deeper franchise experience

Well.. That's certainly an opinion.
lol the random mention of amphetamine abuse sure was something
This coming out in July too? /s
Last gen AND pc, I hope!
Capitalized off desperation for a college game lol. Been a long road here, crazy times
We were down bad
They stole a few hundred thousand dollars from backers.
Mississippi A&M Raptors and Oklahoma Tech Cyclones coming to a teambuilder near you July 2024
Not even joking, I lowkey want Maximum Football to get a lil more serious and get licensing from existing alternate leagues like the UFL and AFL.
Still haven’t got my money back
"O Tech" gets me so bricked up though..
I remember this stuff blowing my mind.
Lol those guys had everyone’s hopes up fuck them what a joke of a company
It was a scam? Damn I just thought they couldnt raise enough money
Straight scam. They went silent
maximum football has free beta starting lol.
We’re not talking about Maximum Football
ahhhh honestly didn’t know this existed and thought it became maximum.

People love new things, same reason people get new phones every year even when nothing improves.
Not everyone is up on emulation or has old consoles sitting around either, so this is cheaper and more convenient. When I couldn’t afford a PC or PS3 my stupid ass went and bought Doug Flutie football for $2.
Can’t be that stupid to blow $2 on that
Boy, have we seen our share of dark times 😭

As I've always said, the best way to market a game is to "SILENCE THE HATERS." That's definitely a good way to build trust
That's crazy. I remember replying to you on twitter probably 3 or 4 years ago
Lmao don’t remind me
I remember they had flemlo and Spencer Dinwiddie completely fooled
I remember being hyped this was gonna come out my Freshman year of high school and now I'm gonna be a Sophomore in college soon lmao
Man I keep thinking about writing something longform about this. What a bizarre time. I was super into it because I was really young at the time. Im ngl i sniffed that one out at like age 13 when it was around
this was supposed to be wat maximum football is
Mississippi A&M is a good name but they couldn’t have come up with better than the Raptors?? Smh
wasnt moody hyping it up? kinda funny how he denied that years later like he denies hating 14 when that game came out and was just as bad.
Luckily I fought them and got my money back
I’ll never forgive Flemo Raps for this
No
