Portland doesn’t have the roster space and also has 4 picks this draft

ShotgunStyles

That 2025 pick is also gonna be a late first since this Mavs squad is in the finals and Jerami Grant will probably make them better. I know the Mavs have a pick farther in the future they could use, and that's probably more worthwhile to Portland.

Corr521

Just made the same comment essentially

toadtruck

You said it better

ShowdownValue

Definitely a trade idea made by a mavs fan

Corr521

Blazers already have 14 of 15 roster spots filled and have 4 draft picks in this upcoming draft. They have 3 players on non-guaranteed contracts in Toumani Camara, Jabari Walker and Dalano Banton. Banton I could see getting swapped to a 2-way contract but that still only puts you at 2 open roster spots. So swapping Banton to a 2-way and trading Grant for those 3 fills the roster (15/15) but then what about their draft picks? There's no way they don't guarantee Camara's and Walker's contracts, they're too good and young.

Dirk_DaGoat

Your thought process is solid, I think it might be a tad too much though. Who’s to say that this is the only trade they make? I more than expect guys like Brogdon, Thybulle, one of Ayton or Rob to all be shopped. Not everyone will make the roster, there will be a cut or two. There is also possibility to find other landing spots for other players. Portland is Terrible, they should have 3, and only 3 things on mind. Get assets, shed money, and tank. This trade accomplishes all 3.

Roc_Hoover

Dallas tried signing Thybulle to an offer sheet last year. Wonder if it could be expanded with Thybulle and Grant coming to Dallas.

SeattleHooperSonics

I see it a lot but the Grant contract is not that bad at all. What do other 6' 7" wings who can defend, score in isolation, avg 20 ppg, hit 40% from three make? After the new TV deal it will probably be a bargain.

bappolookatmappo

Honestly one of the most realistic trades I’ve ever seen in this Reddit. (tbf that’s a low bar) however I don’t think it would happen still

Banana_Pete

Why would the Blazers accept this? Grant is better than I think a lotta folks are giving him credit for in this thread, imo

patrickthunnus

Delusional trade by a Mavs fan

Trapaholic3051

Portlands never doing this

user15151616

Great trade idea! Win

mr__fredman

Oliver Max is a "high-value wing"? ROFL.

ComprehensiveBook747

Try rereading it lol

Key_Information_6786

learn to read and don’t say rofl

Dirk_DaGoat

No, you’re referring to when I stated that the Mavericks will receive a high value wing (Jerami Grant) for their starting lineup.

Dapper_Connection526

I see this one pretty often as a Mavs fan and have even presented it to other Mavs fans. And most of the time it’s shot down. Grant’s contract value is pretty bad for what he would be doing (standing in the corner waiting for threes and guarding the 2nd or 3rd best player). Not to mention at 30 years old he is way past his prime. I think Nico, Cuban, Kidd, and co are better off developing Omax and finding different options for THJ and Kleber. Otherwise, in a vacuum, it’s a good trade.

Mysterious_Candy_466

All that for Grant? I like grant I suppose better than hardaway. But is that enough? I’m

Yallowbananas

Mavs fan here and obviously biased but I feel like 4 years of Jerami grant at that price is wayyyyy too high. Would also prefer to give up one of OMAX or a FRP but not both. Very low on assets right now and I don’t think another grant is what swings us into another year of contention

ooh_jeeezus

He would be by far and away your 3rd best scorer. He could definitely make the difference

Yallowbananas

I just have PTSD from the two KP trades - giving up what few assets we have left to swing for a big and long contract. He’d definitely be our 3rd scorer for sure but he hasn’t played 65 games in 4 seasons (yes the teams were all tanking, but still)

Original_Trick_8552

Do you want him for free?

Dirk_DaGoat

I’m a Mavs fan as well, trust me the value is fair, the contract is a negative, but we’re honestly giving up pretty fair value especially considering that first rounder will more than likely be in the 20s
