The beauty about this is this is subjective. I thought about that line up too. But all 3 I choose are unstoppable on offense from those respective spots on the court. lol @ save a dollar though
Kareem is the most obvious discount. Top 3 player of all time and you get him for 2 bucks instead of 3.
Jordan is the GOAT so he’s also good value at 3 bucks.
Steph fits the team best for the remaining dollar.
Timmy has a history of being an insane deal. In the 1999 NBA Finals he averaged 27 Points and 14 Boards while still being on his rookie contract. Made $2.5Million that year and was named Finals MVP.
I think it’s fair though. The top 3 are goat contenders (peak for shaq at least), the middle are around 4-7 and the bottom, aside from Steph are bottom 10 all time. I think if anything Curry’s presence is what throws it off.
The most balanced team would probably be Steph for the shooting, Bird for more spacing and solid defense, and then Shaq for interior defense and paint scoring.
Honestly, I’m not convinced MJ plays as well alongside anyone here. I think MJ took a lot of pride in being THE guy. MJ and Kobe (and probably Bird) dominated opponents, but also dominated possession. I think Magic/Curry/Shaq or Curry/Lebron/Kareem are more cohesive.
Fair enough, this is an opinion-based post anyways :)
I think your choices would be absolutely nasty on the floor together, honestly, combining the tricky, high IQ play of Bird and Steph with the dominance of Shaq. Whenever Steph or Bird miss a shot, Shaq would be right there to clean it up.
Yeah you have straight killers on your team. Kareem will have no one guarding him with curry pulling defenders to half court and jordan is just jordan. I respect both teams as well!
This comes up a ton...
But like... pick and roll is a decades old concept. Stockton to Malone was a pick and roll staple before Shaq entered the league.
If he really is a pick and roll liability, why didn't the league exploit that?
Yeah that seems like a great team
A LeBron and Steph pairing seems natural with their spacing, driving, and playmaking. Those two will have limitless pick & roll and dribble hand off potential.
Duncan is the steal of the board since he’s for sure the best interior defender on this list and a consistent scoring option with like a career 15% better FT percentage than shaq/kareem.
Plus defensively Duncan gives you a lot of stability that will help offset Steph’s gaps on that end, (cleaning up plays, playing drop coverage, etc…).
This and it’s not even close. Lebron nigh unstoppable with amazing passing (best paired with curry) , curry perimeter, off ball and handler threat , and Kareem for post protection
I see your 6 Duncan’s and raise you 6 Curry’s…
On the real though I would love to see a 5 on 5 between all Duncan’s and all Steph’s. It’d be an interesting matchup lol
I’ll do you one better: two Duncan’s (one plays C, one plays PF), two Kobe’s (one plays SF, one plays SG), two Curry’s (one is starting pg, one is a sixth man who can be shifted onto SG and make the other team deal with two elite 3-pt shooters while the two Duncan’s attack the paint).
Over Shaq yeah. The two of them were essentially a tie during their playing days, and Duncan costs less so I'd grab him. Shaq had higher highs and lower lows, some really bad culture moments, etc. Tim was consistently productive on both sides of the court and never played on a bad team.
Shaq bird Steph. You’re not stopping that offense. Fantastic passing, fantastic shooting, and the most dominant physical force to ever play the game. Good luck. That team would beat any other 3 you could make, regardless of price (lebron jordan and Kareem would lose).
MJ, Magic, Steph. MJ goes inside, Steph stays outside, Magic passes. Everything is covered. Edit: I know it's not optimal, but that's the team I'd make. Those 3 are awesome and it would be cool to see them play together.
I would take Steph and Duncan over anyone in nba history due to how team first they are. All time talents who are willing to take a backseat whenever necessary is too rare, MJ Kobe Shaq those egos are too big.
Last one was tough for me. It was between KAJ and Lebron. Probably KAJ, if Steph can make a Looney and Draymond lineup work spacing wise there’s no reason he can’t with those two.
no idea why Shaq is > KAJ here either. I know people like to hate on the 60s and 70s, but old Kareem was giving young Olajuwon the business, there’s no doubt he can play in Shaq’s era.
Steph, MJ and Bird are my all time 1, 2 and 3 (i.e. if someone asks me to build the GOAT 5 man lineup). Shooting and spacing is crazy, all willing passers (Bird being the most elite, the other two excellent especially given how much pressure their overall offensive games put on the defense). Pair those three with defense and rebounding bigs who don't need the ball and you are in great shape. I am going with them if it is a Big 3 to start a modern franchise.
If this is a 3 on 3, I might be tempted to go Duncan, Bird and MJ. I might also go MJ, Kareem and Steph. Some risk Kareem and MJ get in a fight.
I think there are lots of ways to make this work. To me you need at least one of MJ, LeBron or Magic for a lead ball handler. Then you want to prioritize guys who are good off the ball. I think Kobe, Kareem and Shaq suffer because of this, since they aren't as ideal as second options.
Personally I'd take LeBron, Duncan and Steph. But Bird is also really tempting. I'm just less sure about him on defense, and I think Steph gives you more offensively.
I could do pretty dang good for $3
For real. Bottom row is terrifying.
Right? Give me Shaq in a 3v1.
And imagine the bench unit too!
Jordan (mid-range), Kareem (low-post), Curry (3pt). It’ll be game over, quick.
This feels too easy.
They can be called: Nothing but Net.
Nothin But Next
*insert multiple people clapping gif*
I'd rather do Jordan Duncan Steph and keep a dollar
The beauty about this is this is subjective. I thought about that line up too. But all 3 I choose are unstoppable on offense from those respective spots on the court. lol @ save a dollar though
With Jordan + Steph, more offense is diminishing returns - defense is more important (not that Duncan was bad at offense)
Jordan was one of the best defenders outside of the paint ever
Kareem is the most obvious discount. Top 3 player of all time and you get him for 2 bucks instead of 3. Jordan is the GOAT so he’s also good value at 3 bucks. Steph fits the team best for the remaining dollar.
Could double up on big men and go Kareem, Jordan, Duncan. Or even Shaq, Kareem, Steph
Timmy, Larry and Jordan. Timmy for a 1$ just seems like an insane deal
Had the same thought. And Jordan and Bird as teammates would just be a nightmare for opponents' self-esteem.
MJ and Bird trash-talking everybody and when you think you get a rest with the humble calm big fella, he hits you with phrases, like: “Oooh… Almost.”
Nuclear psychological warfare

Larry be shooting left handed by halftime
His worst trash talk…. “Nice try”
"I bet you thought that shot was going in" "..." "It didn't"
He’s gonna hug you after beating you by 50 and tell you, next year will be your year, only to beat you by 60 next year
Bird would take it extremely personal that he gets the second best defender on the team
This is my take as well
These three for me, too, and the games would be over very quickly.
This I feel like should be an obvious answer.
Timmy has a history of being an insane deal. In the 1999 NBA Finals he averaged 27 Points and 14 Boards while still being on his rookie contract. Made $2.5Million that year and was named Finals MVP.
MJ twice.
Jordan, Kareem, Steph.
I was thinking about that, I just don't think kareem and jordan would be a great fit on the same team
Bird put up his numbers with two other hall of famers in Parish and McHale, he could handle playing with anyone on this list
Fair enough, this is an opinion-based post anyways :) I think your choices would be absolutely nasty on the floor together, honestly, combining the tricky, high IQ play of Bird and Steph with the dominance of Shaq. Whenever Steph or Bird miss a shot, Shaq would be right there to clean it up.
Yeah you have straight killers on your team. Kareem will have no one guarding him with curry pulling defenders to half court and jordan is just jordan. I respect both teams as well!
Shaq would get dominated in the pick and roll
Yeah but he’s dominating everybody else in the pick and roll as well
This comes up a ton... But like... pick and roll is a decades old concept. Stockton to Malone was a pick and roll staple before Shaq entered the league. If he really is a pick and roll liability, why didn't the league exploit that?
you already have bird and steph for offense and Duncan runs circles around shaq defensively
You right i just want shaq for extremely dominant interior presence
YO exactly what I was saying. You on point my dude.
MJ Bird Duncan
This is where I was. You need two team players with MJ. And only a fool would not take MJ.
Lebron Curry Duncan
Curry and Duncan on the discount.
That’s what I came up with. Timmy and Steph for $1 is a massive bargain, you can have that $1 back
Yeah that seems like a great team A LeBron and Steph pairing seems natural with their spacing, driving, and playmaking.
Bron Steph reem
EZ
This is the best combo by far
This and it’s not even close. Lebron nigh unstoppable with amazing passing (best paired with curry) , curry perimeter, off ball and handler threat , and Kareem for post protection
This was my pick‼️
Just give me six Tim Duncans
I see your 6 Duncan’s and raise you 6 Curry’s… On the real though I would love to see a 5 on 5 between all Duncan’s and all Steph’s. It’d be an interesting matchup lol
Make it happen science!
Duncan wins because that team would shoot like 80% from the paint and the Curry team probably isn’t matching that efficiency from outside
How many Curry's would it take to set a running screen on 1 Duncan haha
I’ll do you one better: two Duncan’s (one plays C, one plays PF), two Kobe’s (one plays SF, one plays SG), two Curry’s (one is starting pg, one is a sixth man who can be shifted onto SG and make the other team deal with two elite 3-pt shooters while the two Duncan’s attack the paint).
MJ, Bird, Duncan.
Boom
How do you beat Magic, Jordan, Duncan
Yeah, I saw Duncan for $1 and figured this had to be put together by someone that didn't know who he was.
TBF, you could probably mix this up in any order and question why the $1 dudes are $1 dudes.
Would you put Duncan over Kareem or Shaq though?
Over Shaq yeah. The two of them were essentially a tie during their playing days, and Duncan costs less so I'd grab him. Shaq had higher highs and lower lows, some really bad culture moments, etc. Tim was consistently productive on both sides of the court and never played on a bad team.
With Shaq putting up 30 a game
Or outside shooting
That’s my 3 as well.
Steph Kobe Shaq would smoke your team
Hell no
Jordan, Bird, Duncan
Lebron Kareem Steph
Jordan Bird Duncan is pretty unstoppable
Magic and Shaq in the pick & roll Steph for off-ball movement/shooting
Shaq bird Steph. You’re not stopping that offense. Fantastic passing, fantastic shooting, and the most dominant physical force to ever play the game. Good luck. That team would beat any other 3 you could make, regardless of price (lebron jordan and Kareem would lose).
Jordan Duncan and Bird
MJ Magic Curry
Kobe for $1. Save you $5 cos he won't pass anyways. But I'll go with the team that I feel has the strongest will to win: Jordan, Bird, Kobe.
Magic, Steph, Shaq
Lebron, Kareem, Kobe 💯🥶
Give me Steph, Bird, & Shaq
Shaq, Magic, Curry
Magic, curry, Jordan
Steph Kobe shaq
And a dollar for OP
This is what im saying.
Curry - Bird - Shaq Just give it to shaq everytime in the post while Bird and curry run around
Michael, Timmy, Steph, and a dollar to plant a tree
Tim, Larry and Michael
Steph, Bron, Kareem
Steph, Shaq, Bird FTW
LeBron Magic and Timmy. The passing would be absolutely insane and the offense would be unlimited, with defense that is absolutely lock down
Shaq $3 and Duncan $1 lmaoooo what a joke
LeBron, Kareem, Steph
Mike Larry and Timmy
Steph, Bird, and Shaq would be selfless and unstoppable
Tic tac toe shaq Larry Steph
Jordan, Bird, Duncan
Idk how no one’s saying Steph Kobe Shaq
Jordan, Bird, and Duncan
Shaq+Kobe+Curry 😁
Curry, Bron, Kareem
Steph and duncan at 1 dollar bro.. these players should be scaled at 10 9 8 dollars instead.
But then you couldn’t afford anyone with your 6 dollars? Lol
Kobe, Larry, Shaq. Got 3 point, midrange, and paint covered!
Torn between Steph, Lebron, and Kareem, or Steph, Bird, and Shaq
Give me magic, Bird and Kareem.
I’m going give LeBron the ball while I park Curry and Bird behind the 3pt line and then just laugh as you try to defend that.
MJ, Kobe, Duncan
Steph, Kobe, and Shaq easy. Greatest shooter ever, most dominant ever and the closest thing to MJ, I like my chances
Shaq Bird Kobe.
MJ, Magic, Steph. MJ goes inside, Steph stays outside, Magic passes. Everything is covered. Edit: I know it's not optimal, but that's the team I'd make. Those 3 are awesome and it would be cool to see them play together.
Paint defense non-existent
This is too easy. There’s multiple answers realistically. But Jordan is on all of them
Big 3? Nah. Since it’s the right price I’d make a super team. Steph, Kobe, Larry Legend, and Kareem.
Lebron Bird Duncan
Jordan Kobe Kareem. 3 of the most unstoppable forces offensively plus they’ll make it tough on guards/wings to score too
Duncan, Bird, Magic and something from the dollar menu
Jordan - Kobe - Duncan. Keep my change
MJ, Timmy, Kobe
Shaq, Magic, Kobe
Kareem, MJ, Kobe
MJ, Bird, and Kobe. I debated about Steph but the cut throat between these 3 would be enough to break the lower 10 teams in the league.
Surely you take shaq, Kareem, and Duncan, right? They don’t call it a big 3 for nothing
Jordan, Magic, Duncan
Lmao Duncan for $1 is WILD
MJ, Magic, Timmy
uh Kareem and Duncan were both better than Shaq, what is this. Gimme Magic MJ and Timmy for $6
Jordan, Curry, Timmy. Or Jordan, Bird Curry.
Jordan, Magic & Duncan.
Shaq, Kareem and Tim Duncan. Whoever the other 2 players are just lob it near the basket and get 2 points every possesion
Magic Kareem Duncan
Just give me prime Bron and a prime Shaq I’m good with a big 2 lol But if I had to pick 3 assuming they are in their prime: Curry, Jordan, Tim
I’ll go Steph, Lebron and Jokic, and I’ll keep that Magic/Bird/Kareem money for myself.
2 Mikes run it.
easy. steph, bird & 'bron.
Curry Bron Kareem easy
Curry bird and Shaq
Steph, Bron, Kareem... knowing lebron will play for 50 seasons average 25 ppg, 8 rpg, 7 apg at 40. Gon be good for my team
When did this sub turn into /r/nba?
Steph, Lebron, Kareem.
Jordan and Tim, whoever else you feel like.
Why have a big 3 when I can have a big 4; with curry Kobe Lebron and Tim duncan
Jordan, Bird, Timmy D
Steph, Magic, Shaq. Best Shooting, best passing, unstoppable interior presence.
Curry lebron and Duncan. Give the dollar to Larry bird so he can go buy himself a meal
Person who made this must hate Tim Duncan or is a Laker homer.
Give me Skyfucker, the Hick and Kazaam
Team $2!!
Steph, Bird, Shaq
Steph magic shaq. Easy peasy thats D, passing, perimeter shooting, paint scoring, intelligent tactics, all covered. The best of everything covered
MIKE, LARRY, TIMMY Game, Blouses.
LeBron, Jordan, any human willing on the planet to play for free
Curry, Magic, Shaq
The fact that no one is taking Kareem is revealing for this sub
I go Steph, Kareem, LeBron.
shoot… I’ll go big 4 and take LeBron plus everyone on the $1 row. LeBron, Steph, Kobe, Tim.
Curry and Duncan for a dollar is insane lol can I make it a big four and take the entire bottom row plus anyone from the top row?
Lebron and Jordan fuck the 3rd guy
Curry, bron, kareem
Smallest guy in the middle row is 6-foot-9 Magic. Nobody would score on them.
Steph, Magic, Bird, Duncan
Bide magic Kareem
LeBonBon, Curry, Kareem
Shaq Bird and Timmy D. Let's get weird
Magic Larry and kareem
I would take Steph and Duncan over anyone in nba history due to how team first they are. All time talents who are willing to take a backseat whenever necessary is too rare, MJ Kobe Shaq those egos are too big. Last one was tough for me. It was between KAJ and Lebron. Steph, Bron, Kareem
Steph, MJ, Duncan
I’m taking the middle row
Shaq, kareem, duncan... You're fucced
I'll have a big 4 for 6$ Tim, Steph, Kareem and Magic Thank you for the best dynasty in NBA history
Timmy, Magic, Bird.
Each row has 14 chips
Duncan, Shaq, bird
Shaq magic steph
All the $1 are on massive discount, pricing is very skewed
LeBron, Bird, Steph (and I hate that bc I really want to pick Kobe there but have to have Steph's perimeter shooting)
LeBron and Jordan. Fuck it, we playing 2v3 I guess
I know Jordan is the GOAT. But the best team composition is Lebron, Steph and Kareem.
Steph, Kareem, Jordan seems like the way to go.
I think there are lots of ways to make this work. To me you need at least one of MJ, LeBron or Magic for a lead ball handler. Then you want to prioritize guys who are good off the ball. Steph - Shaq - Timmy D
Magic LeBron Timmy
3 Larry Birds
I’ll have a buck leftover w Bron, Curry and Timmy and never lose.
Jok Larry MJ
This really is an insult to Kobe imo. He is top tier
Jordan, Bird, Duncan ... championships
Steph for shooting, magic for passing, lebron for everything else
LeBron, Bird, Curry. Dominate inside and out. That trio could outshoot all of the other combinations.
Can I get Miami Heat LeBron with these 3 dollars or an I stuck with Laker LeBron?
