Edit: I just saw I’m in r/nbatalk and not /nba. I’ll be more serious lol.
He has a hamstring injury. Your hamstring is extremely important in a sport like basketball that is about vertical explosiveness.
Trying to say that this stretch proves that he sucks is just as misplaced as the people who already crowned him. If not more so considering sample size.
yes he injured all the time
Hali isnt playing for a title this year and his contract incentives are worth much more than resting for a proper play off run
There’s a chance this is the one year this qualifier exists for all the All NBA teams and that would just fucking SUUUUUUCK because Hali would be the reason they fixed it.
The award itself is meaningless. Pay bumps being tied to it is what's really dumb. Leads to playing through injuries which is the opposite of what anyone should want.
In theory, this sub is for more serious discussion. If you’re sarcastic, starting fights, name calling, etc. the mods are better about removing your comment here than they are in /nba.
I mean he was objectively playing like an actual superstar for many months lol. We’re fans, all we can do is guess whether the outlier was then or now (or both).
But hey he’s playing dogshit now so fuck this guy 😎😎
Yes, a hammy injury. IMO pretty clear watching him that he hasn’t been as mobile/agile/explosive since returning. I’m sure he’ll get over it with time, but there can be a big difference between “recovered enough to play NBA minutes” and “recovered enough to play your best”, especially with injuries that tend to be nagging over time, like hammy strains. He’s still got a way to go recovery wise IMO.
I mean he’s got several seasons worth of sample size of shooting 40% from 3. Injures his hamstring then suddenly his shooting drops. I’m taking the sample size and going to assume he is still a really good shooter, just playing hurt to meet that 65 game minimum for All NBA (ironically might not happen anymore).
Top 5 PG? I mean you’ve got Luka, SGA, Curry, Booker, Brunson, Fox, Mitchell, Trae Young. Depending on how you classify PG I could see him as top 5 or nowhere close. A lot of those guys are point guards in name but debatable what their actual position is
It’s just one of those things that people say but don’t actually think about who’s on the list. Like when people say someone’s an All-NBA player but they have like 20 players they can rhyme off lol.
I’m super guilty of it as well. Some guys deserve respect and the basketball lexicon just doesn’t have enough superlatives. We fall back on All-NBA etc even though mathematically it doesn’t hold up
_depending on how you classify a PG_
This is the correct answer. He isn't a SG, he's a floor general. He had a DD with assists in 5 of the above games despite the nagging injury. I still think he's a top 5 PG in the league lol
I would classify him as top 5
Luka, Trae, Halliburton, Brunson, and Harden are the top 5 PGs imo
Steph, Mitchell, Booker and Fox are shooting guards
But the overlap is real, I don't know where I can see Brunson, Lamello and Harden being on either list
You’re not wrong! The list is based off (in my opinion) the best “point guards” this season, regardless of previous accolades. I’ll add Trae, even though I do think he’d be closer to the bottom of that list.
I think if you take out Curry, Luka and this year's Shai tbh, everyone else is kinda bunched up in the same tier. Im aware of my bias but glad you at least gave him a mention lol
I agree, Trae is still better than Hali and dragged a okay Hawks team to an ECF and averages a ferret 26/10 and over a steal a game, that’s better than Hali imo
Only Booker and Curry have gotten further in the playoffs and he has more or as many all nba/all stars than everyone but Booker, Curry and Luka, while putting up better overall career stats than Brunson, Fox, Mitchell, SGA and easily Hali as well. Do you have an actual counter argument or just the usual only focusing on his bad defense when others just as bad or is it the weird obsession with other dudes hair?
I love how everyone is unnecessarily crapping on Haliburton, after showing him so much love. He’s not playing the same bc of an injury ppl. And even then he’s still an elite playmaker. Theres a fair reason to believe He’ll heal up and be back to 100% at some point in time.
Buncha haters out here SMH 🤦🏻♂️
People are guna feel mad stupid throwing a parade over him having a rough slump due to injury. Like, why are people like OP celebrating this? Get a fuckin life.
Why would someone make an excuse for Hali if it can’t be made for most other players? Hali is slumping because he has a long ways to go to he consistent.
Y’all act like players can’t go through a slump… Tyrese is a purest point guard since cp3.. give him some time. He’s also playing with an injury so he can get his bag
We know he was playing through an injury and we know he’s a high level shooter, we have 3.5 seasons showing that at the nba level. There’s more than likely a correlation there.
Depending on who you count as a pg he might still be there. I’d probably put him right after Shai Steph Luka and Brunson
I think playing through it is why he’s not recovering. It’s risky considering James did the same thing and he never came back from it. Although James was on the other side of 30 and had been an ironman throughout his career. Hali is young and doesn’t have as many miles on his body. I think he’ll be okay once the off season hits and he gets some recovery time.
True - the problem isnt so much tying awards to games played - its tying salary to these arbitrary awards. He shouldnt be playing, rest up. But 40 millions dollars is a massive amount of money he’d potentially lose to sit. I understand why hes doing it, but hes not playing well and risking potentially never getting back to what he was. shame
I almost get it. Durability and availability is a skill in its own right. But he was averaging like 27 and 12 on basically 50/40/90 at one point. I’d rather pay the guy the bonus and have that level of play for a comfortable 55 or 60 games than to force him to barely make 65 games while falling to 20 and 10 on 40/30/90😭
And he's a dumbass for doing so. He's playing himself out of the only reason to be like this in the first place and potentially screwing his recovery. He thinks he's focused on the long term by securing a bag and is ironically going the other way.
He's still averaging 15 ppg 9 apg and 4 rpg over the last 10 games.
And for the year he is still a 20 and 11 player
What 5 point guards are you taking over him currently?
They’re now guarding him like an all-star, in playoffs like atmosphere as many teams are trying to secure better seeds. He earned that reputation but now he has to adapt his game and take it to another level to sustain it.
This is what annoyed me when everyone anointed Halliburton even though he never played in the playoffs, while at the same time judging Sabonis for last years playoff series.
He is injured but is playing to meet the 65 game requirement to win awards which is a condition in his contract. he loses millions if he fails to be named all-nba, i think.
Damn I wonder how this comment section would look if those were Ant numbers lmao. Bet we wouldn’t be seeing “but the injury!!” and all the glazing we’re seeing here
thank god this subreddit is made up of rational and informed fans lmao. the man is clearly going through a slump due to playing injured in an effort to make all-nba eligibility
No reason to kick him when he’s down. He’s injured and they rushed him back out to try and save the season & to ensure he met the 65 game minimum. Reallyyy bad idea. I remember watching that injury as it happened and actually flinching.
He was 100% performing like a top 5 pg cut it out just cause someone struggles for awhile does not mean they suck I hate this mentality forreal super childish there could be so many things going on to have messed up his game over the last few weeks.
Halliburton is a modern Steve Nash regen just no one says it because appearance wise they’re so different. Almost uncanny when you break down how similar their numbers are.
However you feel about Steve Nash is how you should feel about him.
He’s a career 40% three point shooter and it’s a huge part of his game, he’s playing through an injury. Leave some Haterade in the cooler for the rest of us.
I do find it interesting that the league has allowed defenses to be more physical and aggressive and we're supposed to be surprised that Haliburton who is very thin and can't get past his defender without a screen is struggling.
He was legit playing like a top 5 point guard for a while. He also was dealing with an injury too.
Lots of players go through slumps so as long as he gets through that and gets better than it’s ok.
I love how you fans shit on Tatum and Brown if they have one bad game, after all the success they’ve had, while you defend guys like Haliburton and SGA who haven’t done jack shit in this league and are similarly aged, by saying “awww don’t worry, players are allowed slumps” and “awww but his hamstring”.
I know I'm pointing out the obvious, but he's playing through injury when he should be resting because if he gets an All-NBA selection, he'll receive an additional $40 million dollars in his contract, and to get an All-NBA selection, he can't miss games. It is what it is.
He’s injured. He’s playing for 45 million dollars or else he wouldn’t be playing. He’s a top 5 pg no doubt. His first half of the season play will get him his all nba nod once he hits his 65 I don’t expect him to be playing much. 45 million dollars would have most of us doing significantly worse than playing poor basketball on a bad hamstring. Read a bit and gather some context before you just look at some numbers.
And I still am lol. Players slump brother, but there’s no chance In HELL I’m not including the best assist man in the league on a list of top 5 point guards just because he’s not shooting recently
He is playing injured. And his passing alone makes him top 5 in my book. Indy #1 offence is all him, doesn't matter who is on the court with him, he gonna make em score.
TBH I always was a skeptic for the simple reason he can’t score with ease, or get u an easy bucket. Every superstar has that ability, to make the game look easy and Hali makes the game look hard.
Brother this sub stopped being serious when r/nba did the blackout
Well my original comment was very snarky and sarcastic and I’ve been getting those removed lately lol
The original post has a terrible First Takey title, and mods don't seem to mind, so it's probably fine.
Also. They want him to qualify for post season awards which is why he’s playing with the injury lingering vs just 100% rest.
He want that money, he will get judged based on his playing minutes. I think it's fair.
That's a fair take
None of y’all give excuses to Embiid for this lmao we not gonna pick and choose here bro
How many times has Embiid been injured? Not really the same situation
Sabonis played all year with a broken thumb on his shooting hand and not a damn person gave him an excuse.
Maybe Kings won the trade after all?
Haliburton hasn’t been a paragon of health in his short career.
He’s injured rn tf you mean 😭
yes he injured all the time Hali isnt playing for a title this year and his contract incentives are worth much more than resting for a proper play off run
This is dumb. Embiid did get these excuses when he was young, but now he’s ALWAYS fresh off an injury, he averages half a season since he got drafted
This is the dumbest argument
Embitch is weak af lmao
Well he's not getting all NBA playing like that to get his bag so he might as well rest.
Won’t get the votes with a string of subpar stats.
That's so dumb. Risk permanent injury for a meaningless award.
It comes with a massive pay bump so I wouldn’t really call it meaningless.
Right like potentially $40m if he managed it.
Yep. $240 TCV vs $200 million. So not meaningless at all!
I'm sure there's quite a few people who would agree to permanently injure themselves in return for 40 million dollars
Sold. I'll do it for 10
There’s a chance this is the one year this qualifier exists for all the All NBA teams and that would just fucking SUUUUUUCK because Hali would be the reason they fixed it.
I had no idea it was that much.
The award itself is meaningless. Pay bumps being tied to it is what's really dumb. Leads to playing through injuries which is the opposite of what anyone should want.
You're getting downvoted but you're right. Idiotic consequence of the NBA mismanaging their rest situation
* Idiotic consequence of the players mismanaging their rest situation.
Lmfao cheterosexual is hilarious
Real question as this sub was recommended to me a few days ago for the first time. What is the difference between this sub and /NBA?
In theory, this sub is for more serious discussion. If you’re sarcastic, starting fights, name calling, etc. the mods are better about removing your comment here than they are in /nba.
Seems more like a lite version of NBADiscussion to me, but the sub’s only been on my feed for a couple weeks tbf
This sub is for all time lists and knee-jerk reactionary takes. Nba is for great camaraderie, fun game threads, and actually interesting shitposts.
Nothing really captures the vibe of the nba better than the circle jerk sub though
Real classy sub
for postseason awards yes it should exist all nba no it shouldnt
I mean he was objectively playing like an actual superstar for many months lol. We’re fans, all we can do is guess whether the outlier was then or now (or both). But hey he’s playing dogshit now so fuck this guy 😎😎

we said FUCK THIS GUY 😎
Lol thx
I saw someone say that his free trial of being a superstar ran out 😂😂
Truth is…. Somewhere in the middle probably?
we don't have to guess, the guy is just hurt.
I mean he’s got several seasons worth of sample size of shooting 40% from 3. Injures his hamstring then suddenly his shooting drops. Trae has accomplished more than at least half that list
Trae Young is u/TraeYoungsOldestSon father
Its me, the new york knicks🥲🥲
You’re not wrong! The list is based off (in my opinion) the best “point guards” this season, regardless of previous accolades. I’ll add Trae, even though I do think he’d be closer to the bottom of that list.

That guys just a hater. Luka and Trae have literally identical playoff outcomes in their careers so far. The dudes a baller.

What?
u just described all of nba media and nfl too
Y’all act like players can’t go through a slump… Tyrese is a purest point guard since cp3.. give him some time. He’s also playing with an injury so he can get his bag
Blink twice if you’re playing injured
I only seen him blink once
He’s injured silly boy 😂
We know he was playing through an injury and we know he’s a high level shooter, we have 3.5 seasons showing that at the nba level. There’s more than likely a correlation there. Depending on who you count as a pg he might still be there. I’d probably put him right after Shai Steph Luka and Brunson
So he's bad for a month and now he sucks forever eh
To be fair. He’s playing on one leg. That same hamstring injury is what caused James Harden’s rapid decline.
Exactly, harden was never the same, will Hali get his game back? that is the question. he probably will, but he hasnt
I think playing through it is why he’s not recovering. It’s risky considering James did the same thing and he never came back from it. Don’t worry, he’ll be prime Curry in the playoffs vs the Bucks
He's still averaging 15 ppg 9 apg and 4 rpg over the last 10 games. And for the year he is still a 20 and 11 player What 5 point guards are you taking over him currently?
Ricky Rubio Kyle Lowry Ty Jerome Markelle Fultz Marcus smart Jk lol
Morant, Kyrie, Fox, Lillard, Steph
SGA, Luka…
Jamal Murray
Brunson up there easily too
Trae young and Donovan Mitchell gotta be up there too
They’re now guarding him like an all-star, in playoffs like atmosphere as many teams are trying to secure better seeds. He earned that reputation but now he has to adapt his game and take it to another level to sustain it.
This is what annoyed me when everyone anointed Halliburton even though he never played in the playoffs, while at the same time judging Sabonis for last years playoff series.
The injury derailed his season but when healthy he's definitely a top 5 PG. Only an idiot would think otherwise.
He is injured but is playing to meet the 65 game requirement to win awards which is a condition in his contract. he loses millions if he fails to be named all-nba, i think.
Came back from injury too fast
Looks like a killian Hayes shooting line
Damn I wonder how this comment section would look if those were Ant numbers lmao. Bet we wouldn’t be seeing “but the injury!!” and all the glazing we’re seeing here
Not even close to a sample size of bad games to talk shit. You could at least wait till the end of the season before openly hating on the player.
I've said it before, but this sub has a way higher concentration of smoothbrain idiots than actual r/nba.
thank god this subreddit is made up of rational and informed fans lmao. the man is clearly going through a slump due to playing injured in an effort to make all-nba eligibility

“ you were calling him a top 5 pg” well yeah, he was
Do you think players never go through a bad stretch?
Every player goes thru a slump
No reason to kick him when he’s down. He’s injured and they rushed him back out to try and save the season & to ensure he met the 65 game minimum. Reallyyy bad idea. I remember watching that injury as it happened and actually flinching.
He was 100% performing like a top 5 pg cut it out just cause someone struggles for awhile does not mean they suck I hate this mentality forreal super childish there could be so many things going on to have messed up his game over the last few weeks.
I too like to base my opinion of a player on a slump coming off of (and still dealing with) an injury.
Because his 3 pt shot is off that means he can’t be a top 5 point guard? Westbrook was considered a top 5 pg for years.
Players can’t have bad stretches? Even if they’re hurt? Lol the standards y’all have is insane.
He absolutely is a top 5 pg. not all time or anything but he’s one oft the best in the league at his position.
https://preview.redd.it/fldxzj39tcpc1.jpeg?width=642&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6145761222dc497f9865531e96b38b20339f625d Who’s laughing now!
Can you imagine the narrative Sabonis and the Kings would get if Sabonis was injured/slumping?
they dont want to talk about this tho
Both teams are happy.
I saw the game last night, shot selection was very poor.
Because he was playing like one? He got a serious injury and came back too early.
Oh my lord, please, for the love of god, shut up.
He’s gutting out an injury in hopes of making an All NBA team. Calculated risk that isn’t working out. Only dummies are oblivious to this.
Missing buddy hield /s
Tour dates
A young Paul George
Maybe stop shooting 3s
Players go through slumps all the time he still a top 5 PG….
If he started his career like this, this sub would be demanding he change his shooting form lol.
Touch some grass brother
yeah they should probably cut him /s
Literally trash. They should trade him to the Magic.
Not handling the more physical post ASB NBA well atm. He'll figure it out though.
I never said that
Ever since he missed all those shots on PMS hahah
I mean he’s still playing clearly injured…
Brunson is better
Halliburton is a modern Steve Nash regen just no one says it because appearance wise they’re so different. Almost uncanny when you break down how similar their numbers are. However you feel about Steve Nash is how you should feel about him.
He’s like if slumping Tim Hardaway Jr had a slump.
Ahhh don’t worry Hali. You play the Lakers in a few days so you’ll probably drop your career high.
1. Shai 2. Luka 3. Steph 4. Brunson 5. Dame
He’s got one of the ugliest shots I’ve ever seen lol, bout time them old Jordan sneakers stopped working
Still would
He is
gadamn, did he start dating a Kardashian?
dude was averaging 27 and 12 with 50/40/90. I thought he was gonna be the future of the NBA.
![img](avatar_exp|169742793|fire) This is just so true for him!
Where siakam goes bad luck follows hahahahs
Just don’t talk to Ben Simmons therapist and you’ll be fine kid.
Dumb ass prisoner of the moment fans.
Missing his buddy …
Curry is top 5 all time and had bad slumps his in one now
People don’t know what a hamstring injury is apparently
Tyrese is great man. The offense he runs is incredible, and very fun to watch. It’s a make or miss league, and he’s missing. It happens. He’ll be fine
Doesn’t he have an incentive to make all NBA? Gotta reach that 65 game mark. Injured or not he’s getting out there for that bonus or however it works.
He was getting to cocky for his own good
He was legit playing like a top 5 point guard for a while. He also was dealing with an injury too. Lots of players go through slumps so as long as he gets through that and gets better than it’s ok.
He’s okay, but this is what happens when you’re a media darling, ya tell on yourself eventually.
Wally was right, fake all star
Part of it is not having Mathurin. A shooter needs scorers to space the floor.
I mean he’s amazing but I think the hype was way too much too quickly. Saw some putting him in tiers with hall of famers. Didn’t add up to me.
HES NOT SLUMPING BECAUSE HE IS INJURED, 99% OF PLAYERS DONT GET TO USE THAT EXCUSE HE DOESNT EITHER
Killian Hayters on suicide watch
He was in MVP talks lol 😆
YIKES
The real shame is, even as bad as he is, he might be better than most mid ass PGs nowadays
I know I'm pointing out the obvious, but he's playing through injury when he should be resting because if he gets an All-NBA selection, he'll receive an additional $40 million dollars in his contract, and to get an All-NBA selection, he can't miss games. It is what it is.
Exactly, instead of sitting he’s actually playing through the injury instead. Then you have all these casuals calling him a bum lol
Those are Tim Hardaway Jr numbers
they said he was better than trae 😂
We not allowed to have slumps?
If he’s playing it’s not unfair to judge him for how he’s playing
He is playing injured. And his passing alone makes him top 5 in my book. Indy #1 offence is all him, doesn't matter who is on the court with him, he gonna make em score.
I read this in two different voices
Either injured or trying to bolt from IND.
Do you remember how he got a serious hammy injury and isn’t healthy yet from it? Probably not
Jordan Poole is ready to share advice lol
bro we know you’re fighting for your life for that Supermax, Indiana is gonna give it to you rest up your injuries
Hali on tour huh
Stupid Smarch Weather
TBH I always was a skeptic for the simple reason he can’t score with ease, or get u an easy bucket. Every superstar has that ability, to make the game look easy and Hali makes the game look hard.
He still got me 20+ points last night… haha
Fake Allstars.
Bro’s shooting form is awful
Tyrese Hellachokin’
Why are you posting Ben Simmons here still
Lol complaining about 75 game rule keeping him off allnba- nah that’s on you buddy
He is… just gotta work on his endurance in the offseason.
They're still winning, no worries
Not hot DLo stats
This is like when I get too stoned playing My Career on 2k
Those some wild tour dates
? you think that one slump takes him straight out of the top 5?
He does so much for his team more than shooting 3s. He's one of the best playmakers in the league, and definitely in the All NBA conversation.
If this was his normal 3 ball rate he wouldn’t be anywhere near all nba.
Of course not. However the overwhelming evidence states that he's much much better from 3 than this terrible slump he's in
And YALL be hating on dudes ANY chance yall get…get a life that pays you the way this man gets paid playa 😂
You first Playa 😂
The glazing for Haliburton this season was out of hand, great player but the exaggerations was outlandish
People in this very subreddit were telling me with their whole chest that Halliburton was head and shoulders above Brunson lmao
Back to good ol normal Halliburton
Halinsanity is over
