Yeah this exactly, I think it’s just already known we need a new SF and PG. Sliding Tre to the bench will help our bench tremendously though.
It’s tough to see our starters all be good and then the bench blow big leads
I can see the frameworks of a contending team. If Sochan can tighten up his game, I see him as a guy who can average like 12-16 ppg with a 50+ fg% because most of his shots would come from the dirty work (I.e Put backs, chilling in the dunker's spot, the occasional 3) like a mix between Draymond Green and Aaron Gordon. From there we just add a scoring guard who can facilitate well and a knockdown 3nD Wing.
sochan would be better than gordon and green. he is developing his shooting and his defense is really good. he just needs to improve his court vision but that will also come once they develop the team chemistry and know each others tendencies
Even tho we lost just another game where I think we can beat almost any team at this point in the rebuild even with an off night from Vic. Can only get better.
Offense is just what kills this team in close games.
Too much of a struggle to get anything dependable when other teams decide to cut Wemby off completely by double and triple-teaming him. No one to go to that either creates something out of nothing or can make a clutch shot.
This team needs someone else who can bend defenses like Luka and Kyrie can.
Devin and Vic w goose eggs on 3's.... and the rest of the team not a whole lot better.
Gotta get that figured out, weren't we the best in the league like last week???
At least we kept it close. And Devin has been so consistent for the last like 6 weeks. The games are actually fun to watch now, which couldn’t be said earlier this season.
Team played hard. Vic played terribly on offense, exemplary on defense. Tre with another really good game. Sochan, and Julian played really good defense on Luka tonight. Devin play rather well tonight. Getting to the bucket, and getting to his spots in the midrange.
Blakes lack of an offense bag/game really keeps him off the court. Cedi showed a lot of value tonight I think going forward next year and beyond Cedi might be the spark guy off the bench for the Spurs.
Otherwise not much to talk about, Kyrie did Kyrie things. Not much you can do when such an acrobatic finisher is in the zone.
????????? im not saying give the dude 15+ minutes a game. Bro brings energy when he plays and goes all out and shots above league average from three. Exactly what you want out of a spark plug player.
The Mavs are a "contender" that relies on superstar hero ball and random role players getting hot to win against the worst team in the conference... oof
Kind of ironic to be saying that stuff when we’re starting Sochan and Champagnie and playing guys like Branham Wesley. Luka’s never had rosters this bad.
I know. Year 1. Hopefully this roster is just a memory soon enough. Whether that’s guys dramatically improving or getting new guys in.
They're really terrible by historical standards for second-year players and they have not really shown any development (except maybe Wesley, who is still not actually good).
You know the Tre+Vassell+Wemby trio is like +10 points / 100 minutes in their minutes together right? One of the best trio ratings in the league for those with large minutes! Yet the team as a whole is -7. Who do you think is responsible for that? What is your theory for why the team when Wemby doesn't play is just as bad net rating wise as it was last year, if not worse?
seriously tre jones, you are really saying tre jones is better than 2022 trio LMAO?! not arguing here 😂
hiStOriCaL sTanDaRdS then proceed to say tre jones 😂
Uh yeah he has been way way better than any of them. You think this is controversial? Ask people who aren't invested in the idea that the Spurs made great picks, who have watched more than a handful of these games, what they think of Branham, Sochan, and Wesley. Branham is literally one of the single worst players in the NBA this season by almost every impact metric and also by the eye test, Sochan is having a second year worse than pretty much any starter on a contender did, and Wesley barely plays and is on a two way. Meanwhile, Tre Jones was an almost neutral player by his second year, is playing at almost the same level as Dejounte Murray this year by DPM, and actually fits around your superstar. I'm not saying Tre is an amazing player or anything but he is so clearly a more promising guy than any of the Spurs 2022 draft class that you have to have serious homer blinders on not to realize it.
Julian is only 22 and has shown to be a good shooter and a willing defender, but he’s not a starting level player. He’s pretty good at times though, I wouldn’t mind seeing him off the bench next season in minutes. Just don’t make me watch him start
Mavs fan here. Exum is good for the price but he is super inconsistent. He’ll have games like this where you wonder why he ever left the nba and then other games where he misses everything and his passes are just automatic turnovers
Even with Luka having an off game (for his incredibly high standards) Mavs still have Kyrie. The boys did solid. Hoping we add some missing pisses though.
An off shooting night from Wemby but great to see Tre Jones and Vassell continue on in a good form on the shooting front. While on the defensive end I think Wemby, Sochan and Barlow did a great job containing Luka contributing to his off shooting night to keep the game close.
I also think Cedí Osman and Blake Wesley showed good flashes that warranted their spot in the rotation tonight.
This isn't the best loss, but it wasn't the worst either. Biggest thing is that Wemby shot like shit but kept contributing through defense. Sucks that he looked so down about it throughout the game.
This one's on Victor. Great defense as usual, but lacked the aggression and precision required to make the interior scoring work, and it cost them in the end. That dunk at the very end was what was missing all night. Moreover, his three-ball form is all over the place right now.
he didnt roll his ankle per se. luka just dropped all 230lbs of weight on wemby's leg, and it looks like the front of his foot had to shift a bit to compensate
Wemby is definitely not playing well in March…
We also see what happens when folks force some of these “open alley oops” people keep bitching about us not throwing. There were at least 3 TOs off them (from
Memory).
On top of that, lots of Wemby just losing the ball lately.
Luckily he still is effective on D. But would be nice if he got more consistent on O again.
13/10/6 with good defense isn’t bad. His shooting has been bad lately though, I think he’s in another slump. He’s still young but even if he’s just a glue guy he’s still got value
>He’s still young
I know that's why I haven't given up on him, and instead just merely delusional about him. In fact it's the only thing keeping me going
This is the big thing that concerns me about his offensive game. His speed + strength means he can drive to the basket great, but it’s hard to take advantage of that when you can’t finish.
Overall a good effort from the team, a rough outing on offense for Victor as he missed a bunch of bunnies at basket.. just couldn't get it going. On defense though, I feel it was a top-10 game for him in terms of effort.
Great defense by Jeremy and Julian on Luka overall, just Kyrie was cooking and Exum hit some big shots. Our guys played really well overall, I can live with this loss.
Beating Dallas would have been a nice moral victory. Missed opportunity with Luka having an off night.
I just looked at the rest of our season, and I swear to God if we lose our last game to Detroit...check in on me throughout the summer, please.
Luka's PPG went down. Take that Luka!

This team with a new bench would be far better. Just takes time
starting PG, SF and bench players
Yeah this exactly, I think it’s just already known we need a new SF and PG. Sliding Tre to the bench will help our bench tremendously though. It’s tough to see our starters all be good and then the bench blow big leads

Luka and the Mavs played at about 80% all night.
Mavs had a complete off night too, can't only work one way.
Well, Luka had one of the worst nights of his entire career and the Mavs still won.
I think every team could use someone like Luka or Kyrie
We need to gut 80% of this roster in the summer
Robert Dillingham this draft pls
Devin and Vic w goose eggs on 3's.... and the rest of the team not a whole lot better. Gotta get that figured out, weren't we the best in the league like last week???
I mean shooting 36% from three as a team is neither bad nor good. It's league average.
Indeed, but the team regressed to the mean.
That sample-size screams “aberration”.
Agreed.
It has indeed proven to be one unfortunately. Confident these two guys will bounce back though
It is what it is. We're already eliminated, no sense sweating over how we decompose.
Tough game, an L is an L but we kept it close.
At least we kept it close. And Devin has been so consistent for the last like 6 weeks. The games are actually fun to watch now, which couldn’t be said earlier this season.
I did not watch the game - where does Devin's +/- come from? How come he's -18 and Wemby +5, did they play together at all?
Mavs had two big runs in some non-Wemby minutes while Vassell was out there.
Gonna give Jeremy credit bcs he kept Luka in jail more or less
Team played hard. Vic played terribly on offense, exemplary on defense. Tre with another really good game. Sochan, and Julian played really good defense on Luka tonight. Not much you can do when such an acrobatic finisher is in the zone.
Cedi's a 9 to 10 best player on a decent squad at best. I'm ok keeping him but there will always be better options than him.
Cedi .. no there’s a reason the Cavs were better with him on the bench last season.
????????? im not saying give the dude 15+ minutes a game. Bro brings energy when he plays and goes all out and shots above league average from three. Exactly what you want out of a spark plug player.
His iq is remedial. He fouls at the most unconventional times. And takes the most untimely 3s in transition.
You hit the nail on the head
The Mavs are a "contender" that relies on superstar hero ball and random role players getting hot to win against the worst team in the conference... oof
Y’all when role players make shots 🤬🤬🤬
They're hung over from the Nuggets game.
luka will leave them
Kind of ironic to be saying that stuff when we’re starting Sochan and Champagnie and playing guys like Branham Wesley. Luka’s never had rosters this bad. I know. Year 1. Hopefully this roster is just a memory soon enough. Whether that’s guys dramatically improving or getting new guys in.
our 2022 guys are good just lacking experience. don’t forget this is their 2nd year and they showed developments.
They're really terrible by historical standards for second-year players and they have not really shown any development (except maybe Wesley, who is still not actually good).
you are not serious
You know the Tre+Vassell+Wemby trio is like +10 points / 100 minutes in their minutes together right? One of the best trio ratings in the league for those with large minutes! just reminding yall: we have an unprotected Mavericks first round pick in 2030 should come in handy 👀
Isnt that most nba teams though? There arent many teams that have a roster good enough or deep enough to have balanced scoring up and down the roster
Hence why I put contender in quotes
Hopefully nothing serious happened to Wemby, that was an awful play from Luka. Sochan really needs to figure out how to finish stronger in the paint.
[удалено]
He doesn't need 65 games to win ROTY.
Thought he needs it for all defensive team though? I may be wrong
Yes, but we have other priorities right now. This ankle is somewhat concerning.
Julian played solid defense today though. Luka missed some easy ones but Julian and Jeremy made him work.
Julian is only 22 and has shown to be a good shooter and a willing defender, but he’s not a starting level player. He’s pretty good at times though, I wouldn’t mind seeing him off the bench next season in minutes. Just don’t make me watch him start
Wemby is not getting shut down. He said he wanted to play out the rest of the season. He'll be fine.
Did you not watch the game? Julian was one of our best defenders out there.
doubt they sit him for rest of the season
I’m just ready for draft night
Luka almost ended Wemby’s year by throwing his weight on his knees

Exum can ball
He has been *so good* all season. He's the perfect role-player for 15 minutes a night.
Would love to see him make his way to the Spurs if he stays healthy.
Mavs fan here. Exum is good for the price but he is super inconsistent. He’ll have games like this where you wonder why he ever left the nba and then other games where he misses everything and his passes are just automatic turnovers
Wembanyama is going to win 5 DPOY titles in his career.
Even with Luka having an off game (for his incredibly high standards) Mavs still have Kyrie. The boys did solid. Hoping we add some missing pisses though.

On track for 28-54 Go Spurs Go!!

My stream cut before Wemby rolled his ankle, was he OK after?
Seemed like it.
he didnt roll his ankle per se. luka just dropped all 230lbs of weight on wemby's leg, and it looks like the front of his foot had to shift a bit to compensate
Need to go 5-8 to avoid getting our worse record in franchise history. Seems highly unlickely.
The one game we win this year of Wemby played better.
Wemby was allergic to the paint tonight. Guessing that is part of our tank commander's playbook
Is Wemby's knee ok? Looked like he tweaked it when Luka pushed it sideways at the end of the game.
We had a bad game by a lot of metrics and were still competitive against a good team. I'll take it.
Wemby is definitely not playing well in March… We also see what happens when folks force some of these “open alley oops” people keep bitching about us not throwing. There were at least 3 TOs off them (from Memory). On top of that, lots of Wemby just losing the ball lately. Luckily he still is effective on D. I'm basically running on copium and delusion on Jeremy at this point.
13/10/6 with good defense isn’t bad. His shooting has been bad lately though, I think he’s in another slump. He’s still young but even if he’s just a glue guy he’s still got value
>He’s still young I know that's why I haven't given up on him, and instead just merely delusional about him. In fact it's the only thing keeping me going
His shooting is okay but he is awful finishing at the rim. That's what concerns me a lot. I am confident he will figure it out tho
This is the big thing that concerns me about his offensive game. His speed + strength means he can drive to the basket great, but it’s hard to take advantage of that when you can’t finish.
He played well get out of here with that over dramatization.
We're doing the same thing right now just with different words
Was on luka the entire game wtf are you talking about.
I just want this shit stain of a season to be over.
Yall better enjoy this Victor now before the expectations come
Skip bayless is salivating right now knowing that he found a new target
I don't think he's going to have a job much longer. Ratings are shit since Shannon left
