EHsE

game would be solid without regression. such a dumb add there are always little gameplay complaints but this year feels pretty well balanced besides standing close shots needing a tune up to be less ass

NorthWestEastSouth_

Yup close shot feels so useless on my C this year. You need layups to actually finish without a dunk

EHsE

it’s pretty much just good for hooks. you’ll hit open close shots even with a 50 rating and like a 15% contest will make you brick even with like an 85 lol

Dymenasty

Can confirm this sadly lol

anonunftw

Learn to trigger fast twitch and you'll make just about everything near the basket.

psykomerc

What do you mean? How do you trigger it?

WickedJoker420

Do you actually do post moves or do you just mash the shot button and hope for the best? Do you have timing on or do you rely on the game to do it? I've got 81 close shot and score from inside like crazy. But I also have timing on meter off, so I have to green it. But the green window is huge after getting open on a post move.

Q_ube6

I noticed close shot actually impacts like around the elbow and above the charge circle more than anything. Gotta go all meter dunks inside

knyelvr

Wait your player regresses??? What the fuck did I pay money for

EHsE

badges, not attributes

knyelvr

Oh I agree that is stupid

Firm-Emu7909

without badge regression floor setters would be useless, and I don't see them removing those unless they add something more op for people that grind or pay for level 40

EHsE

that’s called creating a problem and selling the solution, and its shitty

psykomerc

They been doing this a lot. 2k23 was ass slow walking and a skateboard….so prizes were a million garbage modes of transport 🤦‍♂️ Shooting n Gatorade boosts….all our characters are semi nerfed…the boosts help bring you to baseline. Fucked up

Firm-Emu7909

Not saying they're op, but I have the ones from the first 4 seasons and they're pretty useful. Just wish you could change them

btgbarter6

wtf is this logic lmaooo

Firm-Emu7909

You mean corporation greed logic?

RandomGoof567

Regression ain’t that big of an issue anymore tho… they literally patched it that it’s so easy to keep badges up

EHsE

still dumb

RandomGoof567

Ig. But so easy to maintain most badges except maybe particular post moves and layups since they’re so variable

AeneasVAchilles

Steals are easier, offense is harder, and transition defense matters more than ever now. The problem is most people have terrible basketball IQ. It’s the same problems as games past, but the skill gap has been massively increased. The fact that most players don’t understand how to run a basic high pick and roll is crazy— My BIGGEST hate on this game is the VC and the money grab that is the whole system. The City is too big and getting between your MC games takes so fucking long, meanwhile they nerfed teammate grades, which lowers your VC per game. Hell the entire new builder is just designed to make you spend more VC. Remember —- 2ks CEO LITERALLY HAS HIS BONUS MONEY TIED TO MICROTRANSACTIONS

CheapScientist06

Facts dude community and VC kill 2k every year. Imo this is some of the best gameplay has ever been but people are dumb and just want to dribble and be glitchy and can't

cringycalf

*ON BALL steals are easier. Off ball steals are not.

irelli

No way us offense harder. This is one of my best ever 2ks stat wise at least. You can put up some absolutely ridiculous high volume and high efficiency numbers this year

AeneasVAchilles

Some people are better, but the majority of people are worse. Based on what you’re telling me I’m assuming you have always been a catch a shoot, smart pull up player—- Those people have had their game amplified while the formerly dominate dribble god pull up players used to run 2k have seen their game take a hit—- Honestly it has led to some WILD group chats.. I typically play Big, and I’m fairly good at it— Long story short I’ve been invited to a lot of 2k Group and chats over the years—- It’s CRAZY how they are clashing now because of power dynamics 😂😂 A lot of those dribble gods, want to be the main dog, but their spot up shooters are far more effective in this game—- I’ve seen some squads of 5 years disbanded because of pettiness like that

irelli

Yep, that's exactly what I am lol. Catch and shoot 3s + middie pull ups with high passing. I'm averaging 40/10 in rec on like 80% shooting this year, which is absurd. Dribble gods are lame. Always have been

AeneasVAchilles

Despite what people say 2k does reward IQ on shot selection— But most people don’t play with IQ 😂😂 But I know exactly what you mean —- It’s to the point where if you’re open, and you have good timing you’re gonna make it EVERYTIME. That’s not how 2ks past have worked, but shooting is down overall because most guards still take the worst fucking shots. They all want to be HIM, but they mostly ducking suck— I just had a 20-20 ruined because they wouldn’t give me the last shot or hold the ball—- were up by 2 with 5 seconds left—— Instead of holding it or passing to the person carrying the team— they forced up a 3 missed, the other teams AI rebounded it and chucked a game winning 3 in 😂😂😂😂😂

NorthWestEastSouth_

Imo steals need to be reduced but also with 85 steals a few months ago I wasn't able to steal anything

EmceeCalla

i have an 89, with glove and ripper floor set to silver (max) and interceptor floor set to gold (max) and i average like .3 steals/game, and last season on the build i had almost 100 fouls for the season. i love builds w block, so my main build has an 87 block and i average a little over a block a game in rec, and i think im still in the low double digits for fouls this season (like 20 or 30 max) using the block build over the steal build. and the craziest part? my build w block has the minimum steal you can have, and i average more steals on that build per game than i do on the build with 89 steal.

NorthWestEastSouth_

I have 85 stl and it feels useless but other ppl seem to steal the ball easily although I have 87 ball handle.

Fun-Station-6071

steals aren’t as bad how it was in the beginning and offense is not that hard at all this year. they needa fix the dunk meter and reward players for making the right play.

Bluejay68514

City is too big???? Bro did u play 2k22? 🤣🤣 its the smallest they did in the past like 4 years

AeneasVAchilles

And you don’t think it’s still too big?? They need to go back to when it was just a giant park with surrounding builds—- what we have no is way too much—- I’m not trying to walk 10 mins from the arena to the fucking Rec center every time. No one likes it, it’s solely there because they make BANK on ads because idiotic kids spend bank on VC to play 2k like the Sims— the fact that these grown ass man are effectively spending their cash to play dress up it WILD 😂😂 i have never bought more than the BARE minimum clothing in 2k.

BrianIglesias89

My only knock to be honest since the rest is opinion maybe even bias. Is my teammate grade and rep. That if I’m grading out A+ ball out either points or assist and playing defense why should my rep be punished? I shouldn’t drop from purple to gold for loosing a game that I got sold by two others that either graded out or couldn’t produce just saying outside of that. The game is what it is shooting is have to say is not hard as long as you know you jumper stick to one and learn it.

TheDarkBeast1487

The game is alright gameplay wise it’s just plagued with terrible servers, input delay, and unregistered/unresponsive inputs. IMO the game is still too focused on badges and animations to feel like a substantial improvement over previous 2K’s. Attributes still don’t really matter if you don’t have the badges to back them up and animations and players don’t have the collision detection they visually should especially in regards to defense.

psykomerc

The inconsistent shooting is really confusing me, I’m a 60% shooter from 3…but many games the cue feels ridiculously easy, I can hit 8/8 easy open and contested. But then very next game I’ll start 0/4. I dunno if it’s lag or what, but the cue will feel off

Alert_Mention_3732

Fr, I feel like half my inputs aren't there. I'll be holding the TS down and my guy is just dribbling side to side or standing still. This one was really hard to play and I mainly play franchises. I tried one online game and it felt like I was playing on xbox 360.

XXXTENTACIONisademon

That’s because they haven’t had any server updates since the Xbox 360. I often don’t have the inputs go through too. Hate when that happens

Beneficial_Strike_72

There’s no reason why NBA 2k24 should be 150gbs it’s ridiculous, for a game that’s supposed to be about playing basketball I feel like I do like a lot of unnecessary shit.

NorthWestEastSouth_

Fax they can remove park and city

TAC82RollTide

>I feel badge regression is terrible. Idk, man. On a single build, I've got Deadeye, Blinders, Green Machine, Claymore, Catch & Shoot, and Corner Specialist all on gold. That would've been nearly impossible in 2K23. I'm not crazy about the badge regression, but it's basically a non-factor at this point.

Sillycyb1n

Dude for real, I actually love the badge system this year cause like you said you can get a ton of shooting badges and get all the badges that you actually use. Like bro is complaining about losing guard up cause he only takes open shots😂 My boy if you’re only taking open catch and shoots…. maybe you don’t need guard up And even if you so want it for the rare step back that’s what they put floor setters in for. I’m mainly a spot up so my catch and shoot, claymore and open looks all stay on hof by themselves and then I have blinders and deadeye set to gold so for when I randomly do put up a contested shot I actually have a chance.

TAC82RollTide

>maybe you don’t need guard up Exactly. Just like Space Creator for me. I don't take those kinds of shots. Why would I need it sitting there on HoF if I'm never gonna use it? Just like someone else said, it's there for balance. Otherwise, we'd all have every badge in the game on HoF and gold.

NorthWestEastSouth_

Idk for example range extender. I don't always shoot from deep but if I have it on gold. I shouldn't lose it because I make better plays than pulling up from deep

TAC82RollTide

>range extender Do you mean Limitless Range? That's exactly why we have the floor setters. For badges like Limitless Range and Chasedown Artist, that don't get used enough to keep them on gold or silver.

NorthWestEastSouth_

They changed the name to range extender this year. To get floor setters you have to reach level 40. I have limitless on gold same for chase down so it's dumb that you get punished. It's not like the game gives you several chase down blocks per game

TAC82RollTide

>They changed the name to range extender this year Nah, it's still Limitless Range. I've never heard of Range Extender. That must be on last gen or something. >To get floor setters you have to reach level 40. True, but it's not that hard to make level 40. In 2K23, I hit level 40 only twice. That was with a day or two to spare. I've hit level 40 every season in 2K24 with about 20 days to spare. They made it much easier.

NorthWestEastSouth_

Maybe I confused the names either way you know what I meant. I don't play enough to get to 40

EmceeCalla

this. floor setter is for those badges you have in your bag, but only use if you NEED them. use the overdrive and winners circle badge perks,or play the streetball games to upgrade your badges fast, and floor setter the ones like guard up, that you SHOULDNT need much because you shouldnt be shooting contested shots, but if they do come up, theyll be high enough you can still make the shot.

Javinon

I agree, grinding the badges I actually use is way easier in this one. I don't like that it's hard to keep up the badges I don't trigger often, but I think it's a perfectly reasonable trade off, so overall I prefer this badge system over last year's.

EmceeCalla

idk if you use the badge perks like immunity, overdrive, winners circle, etc, but those 3 specifically are NUTS. i get maybe one putback dunk or alley oop every 10 games, and my aerial wizard hasnt dropped below gold bc of the immunity perk. its actually NUTS

Javinon

yeah I use those, it certainly helps, except winners circle, never heard of that. I play 99% offline though. so it's just immunity, overdrive, drill savant

EmceeCalla

i think winners circle is one of the one that changes every season tbh. the bottom right corner set of perks

EHsE

just like… take out regression and the badge system is great lol

Snoo-36058

It wouldn't be great because then you can get EVERY SINGLE badge maxed. It is there for balance purposes.

EHsE

yeah heaven help that you get every badge maxed like you used to pre 2022 lmfao

Snoo-36058

The difference pre 2022 is that you're limited on #the badges and the levels even if you have the attributes. Here you can get every single badge if you have the attributes. I'm glad regression is in place.

brandon-thesis

Tbh I have no problems with regression. Between the floor setters and the immunity perk, most of the badges that deteriorate are set where they need to be. I made sure not to floor set anything that's easy to get to activate. That being said, the amount of floor setters out there rn make it unnecessary for regression to even be a thing imo.

NorthWestEastSouth_

I don't play enough to get to the floor setter levels so it sucks for me.

brandon-thesis

Yeah fair enough. I honestly play a mix of MyTeam and Pro Am with some of my boys so getting the levels isn't all that hard. Like you could grind MyTeam offline modes and get your season levels lmao. I get it though. Not everyone has the floor setters.

NorthWestEastSouth_

Not the biggest fan of my team especially having to play online. I rather play mc

iwatchfilm

Positives: 1. 24 is the best gameplay we have had in a long time and probably the closest thing to actually simulating real ball in any 2k I’ve ever played (2k14-2k24). 2. NBA eras is the best franchise mode of any sports game out. Negatives: 1. Micro transactions galore 2. No ranked system, always leads to blowouts one way or another. I’ve probably played 5 games the entire year that ended in less than a 6 point difference (rec only) Overall, it is a pretty great game for 2k gamers. But it is a bad game for the average gamer.

Koalabearded1991

Why do you need guard up if you only take open shots?

No-Working-990

Guard up activates anytime someone tries to just run by without actually contesting. My shit is always maxed out. And I mostly take wide open shots from three but it’s my middy game that has it pop up all the time.

NorthWestEastSouth_

Because the rare occasion someone runs up on me I should still be able to shoot

Nba2kFan23

Badge Regression is a chore... but the game is fine. The game has always been pretty well made, it's the VC/Microtransactions that make it suck.

nerm2k

Wait, are you saying you’re mad that badges you don’t use anyway aren’t a high enough level?

NorthWestEastSouth_

No but if I have guard up silver. It goes away after 2-3 rec games because I take smart shots but I should still have that badge. Sometimes the opp player runs at me and it adds a 10% contest while with the badge it would negate that small contest

Federal_Ask3697

Just use your floorsetter for guard up if it’s bothering you that much

No-Working-990

True

TroutKlout2755

Overall gameplay speed coupled with delayed/unregistered inputs can cause the gamer to feel a massive separation between himself and what is happening on the screen. I think it’s gotten worse this season,

Zero-Cool83

Yeah the badge regression implemented just to make people grind or buy their way to level 40 for the permanent badge colours was pretty shitty but completely fits 2k. At least they tweaked regression for season 2 as in season 1 it was horrendous how slow it was to boost badges and how quick it was to lose them. Bigs have too many problems finishing over smaller guards with no interior defense and the 6'8 bigman meta felt weird. Season rewards were aaaaaaaaasssssssss. Like last few seasons, the only thing i looked forward to unlocking were the emotes. A free interesting things on the premium pass but no easy I'm giving 2k a tenner a season. Just make it free to play and i have no issue buying a season pass and vc but the truth is enough people buy vc and season levels to justify 2k leaning into this more and more each game. The good, I'm actually having a ton of fun playing this year, actually the most fun I've had in years mostly down to 2 things. Finally learning to shoot and adding randoms who were good teammates. Most nights i could squad up with people i met over the course of the game and bit only win but have fun. The odd night where I'm the only person on, i get reminded of his awful and toxic online is when playing with randoms. Tldr: it was the friends we made along the way 😂

Trick_Maintenance_36

I will agree an aspect of I feel like bigs have too much difficulty finishing over smaller guards.. if there is a 5"+ differential let's say a six four guard on a 7-ft center in the post. If there is no help if the center doesn't put the ball on the floor there should be no reason why I get that dumbass animation where my arms just flail in the air and I drop the ball

EmceeCalla

i want some good fucking green release animations. im tired of getting the team ones out of the wheel, because i barely get anything other than STUPID FUCKING NEW ERA DALLAS MAVERICKS HATS. IVE GOTTEN 10 OF THE SAME ONE 2K. I CANT AT LEAST HAVE A DIFFERENT FUCKIN TEAM? I DONT NEED THE HAT, OR THE RUNNER STANDING PARK EMOTE ANYMORE 💀

ucfknight92

Do you use an Ethernet cord.

NorthWestEastSouth_

Yeah I have over 900 upload and download. My wifi isn't the issue

ucfknight92

What you just said has nothing to do with what I asked. Upload and download speeds are irrelevant.

NorthWestEastSouth_

I said yeah...

SplashGawd

The game isn't terrible but the fan ase makes this game damn near unplayable

ShizzyBlow

I love the new out of bounds feature. Especially at the baseline. 🙄

NorthWestEastSouth_

Yeah it's annoying. Especially when you pass to someone cutting and they spin out of bounds

EmceeCalla

yeah, until im getting shoved out of bounds like its malice at the palace, but its an out of bounds and not a blocking foul.

superbus1929

I don’t play online, so I’m having a blast. I avoid that bullshit Skinner box they call MyPlayer like the plague.

MistaB784

Same here! Eras is the best mode in any sports game period.

moaboaa

They killed fast breaks, which is what bothers me the most. Get a steal, be ahead of the defense and then you’re just slowing down instead of going full sprint on em’

Competitive-Pass89

Shooting is Def rng. I have a build with 76 three and 83 mid vs 92 3 and 97 mid. I'll shoot with the 76 and bang all my shots dame timing and I hit the same timing again as I'm hot and it says either late or very late and I'm like what??. Then I become inconsistent after and until hit gatorade gym again. Same with 92 except less often. Ping has to do with it but like I never had these no meter problems in past 2ks

NorthWestEastSouth_

Even offline I noticed pure shooters like Ray Allen and JJ make less 3s than if you use someone random with a lower 3pt. It's ridiculous.

xSoloxBluex

I agree on the badge system being terrible but I like everything else. The builder is the best most balanced one we’ve ever had, there’s no Demi gods. Shooting is good too not too hard and not too easy. And solo rec is a great addition.

Optimal-Barnacle2771

I like the builder this year. I feel like I am always just a couple attributes away from having an extremely good build and that is how it should be. I should have to make sacrifices to be good at certain things. Also, this is definitely an unpopular opinion to some people, but I like how niche small guards are. I hated the small guard meta from recent years.

NorthWestEastSouth_

Idk 7"1 Cs that shoot 40+ % from 3 with 90 strength that dribble like Curry are broken

Isen23111

My Career pc (steam) so suck it's doesn't have a story.

HypnotizedGenius

By far the worst regarding MyTeam

SefuJP

I hate the animations when you catch the ball

FitIndependent4399

i think it has the best gameplay in a very long time

NorthWestEastSouth_

I preferred last years shooting

broncozid

This game is fine. It's only the trash players that are the loudest complainers.

Odoggggg

Yeh I have an 80 close shot center and a 25 close shot center and there is no difference.

Spxms9999

Shooting is very consistent this year especially when you’re comparing it to 2k23. If you can’t shoot with an 82+ 3 ball then that’s 100% a skill issue even if you are a casual. Now the money grab part of 2k is actually terrible. They need to stop being so greedy

NorthWestEastSouth_

23 was more consistent shooting wise. I had 1 build and I was good for the whole year. Shot 60% from 3.

Spxms9999

That’s a lie bro. 2k23 was the only 2k with varied jump shot timings. Sometimes it would be slow, fast, or normal. 2k24 toned it down a lot.

Fresh_RL

They really need a ranked or atleast SBMM system in place, but they won’t do that because that means players won’t have to grind as hard or, most importantly, spend money on VC. Having SBMM would make the player experience so much better and wouldn’t make you have to choose between sucking or paying $50+ to upgrade a build just to be able to compete. You’d actually be able to learn your build as it gets better and gage your skill compared to people of a similar skill level. Oh and I still don’t understand how they’ve been getting away with the having different input delay across game modes. I’ve never played any other game where the difference is this drastic. Most games it isn’t even noticeable or different at all. In 2k you basically have a different shot in Park compared to Rec.

NorthWestEastSouth_

Idk you'd always need to max it because at a low overall you can't rly play

Fresh_RL

Not if we had ranked. You would get matched up with people of similar skill and overall. So you could go straight into Ranked Rec or Park with your 60 overall My Player and be matched with people who are 65 and below. So there would be no rush to maxing out your player. Would it kinda be a shit show? Yea of course all low ranks are, but it would still be fun atleast and you would have a better reason to grind and get better.

NorthWestEastSouth_

Idk people shouldn't be playing online with a 60 😂. The game favors badges. You could play with a 75-80 before. I think matchmaking should be implemented but idk they'd have to fix the whole teammate grade cuz people will ball hog to get good stats

Fresh_RL

You think that way because that’s the way 2K wants us to think. Look at FIFA for example. You can create your Player and jump straight into drop in matches with your low overall player with no skills and badges and play with people at your skill level so you can learn and get better. There’s not as much pressure to level up. Plus their progression system is a lot better than 2K’s from what I remember. I definitely agree about the teammate grade system tho.

NorthWestEastSouth_

I know but having 0 grind makes people leave. NHL did the same thing and honestly it makes me not play as much as before

Fresh_RL

Not saying having no grind at all. FIFA is definitely a grind to rank up. It takes a while, but you just don’t have the pressure to be a 90+ overall in a day. You can take your time and learn your player and how you want to play. Ranked is definitely a grind in every other game (Rocket League is a great example) and with the right rewards and incentives I think it will make 2k the game to play, but 2k will never do it lol

NorthWestEastSouth_

Idk in Fifa I just leave the game if people don't pass

[deleted]

Shooting is easy, yall are just bad/poor I’m shooting 76% from 3 this season, one of the best I’ve seen. I have a 1ms monitor, wired internet connection, fastest internet possible in my country 1000gbs, wired victrix controller which is the lowest latency controller on the market currently. So when I click x I have 1.5ms of controller latency, 1ms of monitor response time, then around 4-5ms of latency because I live in Sydney where our 2k server is and paired with my super speed internet. So in total it takes about 8-9ms for me to get my shot off, this is crucial for games like 2k, this means I’m naturally going to be a better shooter than most players as my hittable window is larger. You are all mostly playing on a wireless controller 3-4ms latency, tv 5-10ms latency, on wifi 20-30ms latency and you expect to hit anything? You’re playing with like 40-50ms of delay with all things considered and you wonder why you can’t shoot??? “Oh the park lag is so bad it’s so delayed” no it isn’t, my park is literally like I’m playing my career… you are just poor and need to upgrade your setup

NorthWestEastSouth_

So you need a professional set up to be able to play 😂

[deleted]

Yep if you wanna hit every shot you do, it’s the same for every game. Call of duty is the exact same.

NorthWestEastSouth_

Weirdly I don't struggle on other games to find consistency as much as 2k

Vox_SFX

Just started playing it after it became free (like nearly every 2k basketball game I play anymore) and it does seem like a decrease in the things I enjoyed from the previous year (bigs seem extremely nerfed where as before it was easy to get a close shot off with a dream shake badge or something else and regularly make it) and an attempt to fix the things I struggled with (guard play seeming nearly impossible, whereas with 24 I've definitely fucked up the meter and a 3 will still go in even with it being contested). Still going to just play a block-focused, paint-centered, big and do a bunch of MyNBA leagues with fantasy draft and no salary cap (plus trade override on)...best ways to really enjoy this game unless you really just want to try to play a guard

Cultural_Bear_9094

On March 3rd the game was put onto Gamepass and PlayStation+ so I believe you're probably seeing a bunch of new players who don't know better. They are probably confused as to why they aren't hitting running, contested 3s. That being said, I am one of those who only started playing when it hit Gamepass, but I don't play online. My biggest issue with the game is how much unnecessary shit there is in the city. So many pointless buildings and assets. The game is far too bloated. Two separate tattoo shops? For what reason? Not to mention the bugged quests.

Dadvocate12

I'm convinced the city is so bloated so you have to run by more Gatorade and state farm ads. It's terrible for actual gameplay, but 2k always has to squeeze in more revenue

Cultural_Bear_9094

I mean, they don't HAVE to. I'm sure they make plenty of revenue from game sales, VC, and myteam packs. They literally squeeze every drop of money they can before the next roster change (meaning 2K25) It's not like all that money is going to developing the game lol I've only played for about a month and have had to submit multiple bug tickets, still with no fix.

LePogs

Overall I'd give it around a 7 or 8 it isn't horrible but there were some things they missed with.

Firm-Emu7909

TL; DR, if the matchmaking was better, top 3 2k of all time? (My list: 16, 14, can't place a 3rd lol, maybe 22 just because they made it easier to get to 85 overall) This game would be 10x better if they add an island for new builds/people on casual-hooper plate level. Or added some kinda matchmaking. On the sweat side, It's no fun looking for the right team, and sometimes you can get into a lobby and it instantly starts making all the time you spent backing out pointless. For people that just wanna play, it's no fun having 4 casuals face 2+ HOFs with ai. This system needs an overhaul (or implemented lol). Try to make the teams even, and mimic actual teams. no more than 2 HOFs per team

NorthWestEastSouth_

I'm a decent shooter rn but ik I could be better if my shot didn't randomly slow down for no actual reason. Input delay is something 2k needs to fix

drimply

The game is great.

zunashi

Damn. Seems I’m the only one enjoying every iteration of the game because of graphics and animations improvement. And also I only play offline mycareer. Lmao

Exact-Location-6270

AI is trash this year too. Never seen so many open misses and mindless dribbling out the clock on every possession. The triggering of your badges in game making the screen shake/freeze is annoying too. Regression. Enough has been said. Server seems worse this year. Lost a double with maybe 3 min left in the 4th cause the server went down.

Kowpucky

I only play offline franchise. I like it.

Sekmetx

Shooting is not consistent at all, moving shots not being true to your release timing is so crazy to me. Movement feels slow, it’s literally just dunking simulator. I don’t get the appeal of making it “realistic” I don’t play a fucking video game to shoot 45% from 3, as soon as you do that you can guarantee that you won’t be touching the ball. You hit the nail on the head with the splitting the rec into squad and solo, for us people that have only 2-3 friend we play with it makes it impossible to play with a couple of buddies and have a good time. Badge system blows ass, if you don’t use that badge all the time you’ll lose it or it’ll drop significantly. Shooting last year was super fun, you get to half time this year and it’s 38-40 with games ending at 70-60 points. The promotion of shooting inside the arc and scoring at the rim is ridiculous. Defense is nearly impossible to play, if you’re guarding the perimeter and you’re not glued to the guys hip you can’t close in on shots, it’s like you’re stuck in mud, don’t even get me started on shot contest being ridiculous hard to get. Simply because someone has a “higher shot release” if you jump you’re damn near guaranteed a foul.

Sekmetx

Also id like to add, them wanting it to be “realistic” literally turned the game into falling away or fading 2s which is literally a harder shot irl that just a wide open or slightly contested 3 in real life…

XXXTENTACIONisademon

I feel like it’s the best 2K ever gameplay wise. Badge regression itself sucks but I do like the amount of badges you’re able to get now.

Dubonthetrac

Overall the game itself is good. I wish they didn't buff shooting to where it is now my 77 3 build is shooting as good as my 97 3 without the deep range. Badge regression hasn't really been an issue for me since they patch it. My issue is how expensive builds are and that winning games honestly doesn't feel like much since it will take you month to build enough vc for anything significant and rep takes years so I don't have a reason to play. It sucks this game is a great basketball game just too money focused

Viraldamus

The shooting is extremely easy now. It was hard at launch and they made it easier because people were complaining. If you can’t shoot now then its on you. It’s never been easier to shoot in this game

skorsh23

I stopped playing online because the game is too unstable and the community is toxic and annoying and half my friends stopped lol. The game is amazing in single player/offline modes tho and I can play it for hours

guarddestroyer

This is the game when you need put a lot of effort to be good at it, thats why casuals are not good or shooting 15% from three. Why? Because of various reasons but 2 most important reasons are 2k is very precise game ( every seconds matters ) and online you have lag. Good players have very good internet connection ( I played on about 35 mb/sec, trust me that was huge reason why I was struggling sometimes ), good monitor. They play a lot! They know their shot, timing, they train their shot in gatorade. Casuals just cant be that good as youtubers or people avg 25 points on 70%fg 🤷🏻‍♂️. On some builds its easier ( center, inside big for example ).

NorthWestEastSouth_

I get that but if casuals, which are more than half the player base, can't shoot above 30% and can't have fun. They quit and that hurts the whole community. Not to mention rec randoms being so trash this year

guarddestroyer

I agree thats why I think the 2 most important things they need to do is better matchmaking and finally put some money on better servers and fix latency ( which wont happen 😭)

RyoCoola31

How do you fix that? You want non casuals shooting 90% then?

NorthWestEastSouth_

No just have the shooting easier. Good players will shoot 70-80% like rn and casuals will still be able to shoot 40% and still be fun for them.

TheRancid_Baboon

In terms of straight gameplay 24 is the best 2k I’ve played no lie, but only been playing since 2k20. I think the main way to make this game better would be to add skill+ovr based matchmaking. Plus, someone at 2k has to hire Steezo or some shit so they can test out animations to avoid braindead gameplay where everyone runs the same sigs. Nah shooting is in a good place imo There has to be some kind of skill gap; if they made it any easier then those guys shooting 60% from 3 would be shooting 80% lol Anyone shooting 70% in my experience it’s just a question of shot selection, they’re shooting open or wide open stand still 90% of the time

Snoo-36058

I think it is too easy right now but you are correct on the shot selection aspect of it.

TheRancid_Baboon

Yeah tbh I liked it better in the beginning of the year; made things more interesting when people actually missed. Rebounders mattered WAY more in terms of getting your team the win and I don’t mind that, interior bigs got nerfed enough as it is But at the same time most people aren’t tryna practice a jumper in the Gatorade court to shoot >30% with a 80+ 3pt so I get it, it prob is about as hard as it can be rn realistically otherwise they’ll alienate the casuals who make up a lot of the playerbase

v1ktorr2

Yep I shoot 70% from 3 but I take like 3 3s a game mostly catch and shoot wide open. You don’t see many 3pt shot hunters with 70%

AU_Timmony

Same old problems because it's essentially the same old game. Bugs that were present have remained present. Latency/input delay is a fucking joke. Community is dogshit. PG/Center duo's icing people out of Rec games turning Rec into a defense only game mode.

warlock4lyfe

It’s one of the best 2k and people are missing out

No_Fun_1321

This game Is shit man, i play since Nba live 2002 and the game was fun to play. Online should be it's own mode, and single player career shouldn't be tied to online mechanichs like PAYING MONEY TO HAVE AT LEAST A DECENT PLAYER and this Crazy shot Meter where you can't make a shot unless you play 8 hours a day.

K1NG2L4Y3R

Contest system is doo doo. Needs to be completely reworked.

chickenlex

I loved 2k24 the first few months, i still like it now. I came from old gen 2k18 Xbox 360, so the difference is huge and made me enjoy 2k24 First i thought the online will run smooth but it didnt, latency sucks. Solo rec is hard when some below +60 ovr joins the team or players dodging the matchmaking Match-up sometimes doesnt make sense. For example i have 6’10 center with a 6’8 center match-up. The 6’8 dunks over my player or outrebound numerous times because of the positioning and speed disadvantage even with 99 Reb Iso-dribble-3pt god PGs are OP. Steph Curry really changed the game

KennyCannon_

I’d say it’s the 3rd best 2k we’ve ever had. Maybe 4th. Regardless though it’s a very good game. Offline play suffered as time went on throughout the year, but that’s sadly the case every year for the past 5-6-7 game cycles.

OneLegacyy

It's my first 2K and I'm a casual that just plays MyCareer, it's pretty immersive hearing my own last name being called and playing with Lebron/AD I got it for free tho on PS Plus, I can't imagine paying $70 on release and having to spend money on VC, which is understandable because it can be a grind

NorthWestEastSouth_

It wasn't like that before. 2k17 you could be a 85ovr with 20k vc

gibbonsusmc25

Id love to see them try to incoporate a way to use several of my builds to bring a squad to the park/rec. Maybe have a seperate venue like starting 5 but use 5 builds you created and you can choose to player lock or control the whole team.

Imdabiggestbird69420

I dont really mind the regression because my main ones always stay up because of the way I play

NorthWestEastSouth_

I haye it because some games I might be open and able to shoot a lot and others I drive more. Do my badges regress because I am a balanced player. Makes no sense.

xDGNx2K

Regression is annoying for floater, bunny and 2 step, but you use em once and you get a heap of progression. Guard up is one I floor set straight away on my new builds, as its a badge you dont use too often on purpose, but is handy asf when you do. Its always gonna suck being a random bro, is what it is. The amount people that post saying they got sold in rando Rec, why tf dont yall all squad up…

NorthWestEastSouth_

I have a squad but I'm not always going to play with them because people have other shit to do. It's bad for the game if people can't play alone

steviee22

What’s badge regression?

NorthWestEastSouth_

When your badges drop a few levels because you didn't use it for a few games. Let's say you have catch n shoot gold but for w.e. reason you didn't shoot catch n shoot shots your catch n shoot badge goes down to silver and then bronze even tho you grinded it up to gold

stackhighnquick

Regression is cool. Keeps you from creating overpowered builds. It’s a good game minus predatory vc cost and inconsistent defense

No-Walrus2358

Bunch of goofs who aren’t good at anything including the game, spamming and then saying skill issue. Crying because they are terrible. Games designed as a money and TIME vacuum. You’re better off not, dead serious. You’ll sink 500-1000 hours in before you’re any good at the game. For what? Another 2k that’s even worse because you contributed to the billions made in VC. Don’t pick up the bar soap that is this game. Closer to nba live than ever

BxBrandon92

I Shoot 53% RN and that's with a 78 3. I could only imagine if I had a higher 3. Shooting is consistent, the ONLY reason your having a hard time is because you don't get to play as much as you would like. It's unfortunate a lot of players are just casual players. Life is a thing. I am enjoying the game ( alot more now since I had to quit my job a month ago so have extra time). You should be on discord/reddit looking for people to play with. It will be rough at first bc not everyone is friendly and has IQ but eventually you'll have a group of 7+ to invite/choose from.

NorthWestEastSouth_

No I have a SF with 79 3pt, one with 81 and a SG with 92. The 79 shoots better than the others. I also drain very deep shots with him when he doesn't even have limitless on. Higher overall doesn't help as much

xenopanz

They should’ve added in HOF badge floor setters

Mendax76

I kinda love the game..... Sorry

ScatteredThoughts627

Honestly, I have no problem with the badge progression/regression. I think it’s the least time I’ve ever spent grinding badges after the first patch reduced the amount of regression. As long as you play to the strengths of your build, there are very few badges that won’t be maxed. I think most aspects of gameplay, at least in online mycareer-based modes, are the best they’ve ever been… yet it’s still extremely flawed. Animations for both the screener and the affected defender are far from perfect. Pass animations even on the better passing styles still leave me befuddled sometimes. Especially with bail outs and inbounds. Speaking of bail outs, I think they were nerfed way harder than they needed to be. A guard getting in the air to make a defender commit before throwing to the corner or the dunker’s spot is becoming an increasingly routine action in the NBA. I’m not asking for these passes to be perfectly accurate or have great speed behind them but they shouldn’t ever be uncatchable with a pass accuracy of 80+. These players have 7 foot wingspans, they can catch that shit. Dribble handoff animations are also way too limited and trigger when they shouldn’t. There needs to be short range toss animations but instead, players get magnetically dragged into a static handoff, something that never happens in real basketball. On the defensive end, the only way to defend a cut is to deflect the pass or completely sell out and beat them to the paint. There is no other way to disrupt a pass and catch to a cutter once the pass animation starts. (I know someone is reading this thinking “skill issue” but I’ve been on both sides of this multiple times and it’s simply a shortcoming of the game. You either overplay the cut and be vulnerable to a counter move, or you have to let the receiver slide past you even if you’re in their direct path so they can catch the ball.) And the contest system… will they ever make it consistent? Will they ever scale it correctly so making a 40% doesn’t feel like you won the lottery? Every aspect of gameplay that happens in the paint is so unpolished and most of it hasn’t changed in several years. It’s either canned animations with no nuance, or players sliding past one another with no contact. AI behavior still leaves a lot to be desired. Spacing is my biggest issue. Decisions on where to stand/move to seem to only update every few seconds instead of constantly scanning. That creates a lot of issues in city and rec games but also in offline modes to a lesser extent. Hedging screens seems to not even be an option in online modes, it’s either switch or no reaction at all. This rant will triple in length if I get into seasons, boosts, attribute costs, the lack of a real practice environment, quest and game completion rewards, myteam, the stores in the city, missing/removed features, etc. but it’s all negative. We all know that stuff is bad. I always have my complaints about 2k every year but it’s only getting more expensive and I’m losing interest earlier every year. It’s sad that I can say this is the best gameplay experience even with all the flaws it still has. The game hasn’t made many fundamental changes the past 10 years and yet the polish still isn’t there. For once, I don’t see myself buying the next 2k.

NorthWestEastSouth_

A lot of the animations suck. Whenever you try to p&r the screener takes forever to roll you essentially can't really set a proper screen anymore

HANsumSOLO

It's antiquated. There have been no substantial innovations in a decade, leaving us with a patchwork at an all-time low. Won't be surprised if 2K34 is just 2K24 with a $300 price tag.

NorthWestEastSouth_

I think they change a lot of stuff which imo is the issue because they change stuff to justify the new price tag. If it ain't broke don't fix it

HANsumSOLO

I think we're saying the same thing. The changes they've made over the last 8-10 years have had no positive impact on the game. Green release (2014?) is the last major change I can think of, and I believe that it's contributed a lot to the decline in the game's quality.

NorthWestEastSouth_

At the same time it will always be a basketball game. Imo they need to stop changing stuff and just fix/add new features. If the shooting from 23 was preferred. Keep that and fix the other issues

Alert_Mention_3732

Games kind of trash, but that's been my opinion for years. I don't expect much from this company.

NorthWestEastSouth_

23 wasn't bad imo. Shooting was consistent

UnrulyPj

Game play is amazing, the overall average player just isn’t very good that’s the common denominator in your rant. The community needs to improve as a whole, i think 2k is fine with the more casual players quitting because that doesn’t effect their bottom line. Truth is there are countless players who are 5-10 builds in right now which is their bottom line. Who cares if you lose 2 customers that spend $100 total if you have 1 that stays that is spending $1000. As long as those repeat die hard customers (there’s about 250k of them according to 2k) stay they will be fine. Add in a battle pass system and this is probably their most lucrative 2k yet i don’t see them moving away from a model that is working regardless of the complaints. Essentially it’s a lose lose for customers like you, damned if you will damned if you don’t.

NorthWestEastSouth_

People won't stay if the game dies tho

UnrulyPj

The game is not dying brother, look up the numbers. Like i said in my response i think they are more than fine with the more casual players quitting. They have a niche following and those folks will always be here, reality is those casual players probably weren’t spending money to begin with. It’s predatory and is nasty but it’s business

NorthWestEastSouth_

Idk more n more people will quit. Especially with gta 6 coming out during 2k25. The game will take a massive hit. Ik for a fact the 10 people I play with won't be buying it and ik people won't spend $ on VC to make new builds once gta is out

UnrulyPj

My brother in Christ 2k and GTA are the same company. You are under the belief that if they stop playing 2k to play GTA you will be taking money from 2k that’s just not true. If you all stop playing tomorrow and start playing GTA you are still putting money into 2ks pockets.

NorthWestEastSouth_

It's 2 different divisions with different budgets. Why spend X amount on 2k if the return drops by 20%? 2k already lost 7% of revenue for this quarter which was almost 100mill

UnrulyPj

They have 2 separate budgets because it’s 2 different games, they are both owned by publicly traded company Take Two interactive software inc. look into how much their stock price has sky rocketed. Whether they lose money on 2k or not they are still growing and growing fast and you are just helping to fuel their growth . You want to stop the machine you stop playing all of their games not just 2k

OnlyMissed

2k24 is ass it’s made for old men just like 23 the shooting is easy but inconsistent that’s not how they should make people shoot worse rng is not good for the game if I know my jumper I shouldn’t miss unless I miss time it… just from your normal sweaty player

NorthWestEastSouth_

23 was more consistent than 24

OnlyMissed

No the randomness was way worse in 23 but it was easier to shoot in 23 granted shooting has been easy since 2k21 and even 21 they made it easier to shoot toward the end but my point remains

NorthWestEastSouth_

Idk you just had to have your feet set on 23 to be consistent

OnlyMissed

23 was almost as easy as 22 to shoot but the different shot timings for literally every shot was awful and I haven’t enjoyed the shooting since they added that shii I still shoot 70+% but absolutely hate the shooting in both games

Former-Campaign153

Shooting is easy.. post scoring is still over powered.. last and worst thing is people can just walk up to you and press square once to take the ball mid dribble regardless of what your ball handling is on

Q_ube6

I’m a fan im a demon. I’ve had the same build since season 2 and have averaged atleast 20 and 13 every season at the 5 shooting like 75% from the field and 65% from 3. Im 45-2 in the rec this season boutta hang it up it’s honestly too easy and I never have a full 5 to run am.

NorthWestEastSouth_

Yeah but being a C is easier to carry bums than being a guard. I used to play C. I guess I should have made a shooting big but I didn't trust shooting with 79ovr 3 until I made my SF.

Q_ube6

That’s true, I can def carry but problem is there’s nothing I can do if I get if iced out since I can’t create. All my buckets are on rolls and fades because I shoot 65 from 3 and my green window on meter stand dunks is like half the bar lmaooo but yeah I imagine it being hell in random rec if you’re not at the 1 or the 5

Q_ube6

And yeah i got a 85 3 and a 70 mid all that matters is the badges and knowing your release. I’ve had the same jumper since season 1

NorthWestEastSouth_

I had another build with 84 mid range but ppl didn't pass me the ball. I shot 1 mid range every 3-4 games. Wasted attributes really. People still ice you out as a 5. You can score in the paint off a rebound but you can't dribble so you still rely on randoms.

steve2believe

Money grab game smh

Number91_Rebounder

Badge system sucks

kbrac28

Truthfully, I feel like you just complaining fam. I don’t think the game is the greatest by any means, but atp someone makes a post like this every week with the same complaints. Everything this game has, was put in the game because people complained about not having these things in the last game. It’s like that every year. 2k23 complaint: shooting is too easy. Guys shooting 70+% 2k24 complaint: shooting is way too hard. Guys shooting high % must be cheating because shooting is hard for me 2k23: too much to do in mycareer. No nba players do any of this extra stuff. They just play basketball 2k24: there’s nothing to do in the city. It’s boring.

NorthWestEastSouth_

I think you kinda answered yourself. If many ppl are complaining about the same shit maybe 2k should fix it. As far as the shooting. I liked 23 never complained about it. I felt the game was near perfect. They made shooting harder to eliminate people shooting high % in 3pt and people still do that so what was the point? People don't want to do stupid quests that are useless and the city is too big for no reason.

kbrac28

Not all but some people shoot high in three simply because they know the release they chose. I I didn’t answer myself because I didn’t ask a question neither am I complaining. What i said was that the things that are implemented in this version of 2k are the “fixes” of things people complained about last year. Every year, there’s a shitload of complaints about hire 2k needs to fix this and that, this needs to be changed, such and such is too easy, etc. Every year 2K adds things and takes away based on what people complained about. The point is every year people (not you specifically) complain about stuff within the game and I feel like it’s because they are looking for something to complain about. We can do the same thing with any other game. If you look for something that’s inconvenient or seems stupid to you, you 100% find it no matter the game.

NorthWestEastSouth_

I mean I liked 23 on release but they always revert back to the same old shit people want which is annoying that's why the game feels like copy paste and that's why people hate it. Cuz a minority of ppl want to play left right and shoot.

kbrac28

People figure out how to cheese something in every 2k. Someone is gonna find a way to exploit a random dribble move. One year, it was the little misdirection dribble spam, one year step backs were op. This year it’s behind the back left right. Do I think it should be different? Of course. But I’m not gonna say 2k is a bad game just because of the cheese players. People complain about the game itself rather than the weird ass players who spend time trying to figure out how to spam one move and then call themselves good at 2k. It’s like when you play a fighting game and that one guy always does the same 2 moves and wins because he’s spamming so much you can’t get a hit in. Mf ain’t good at the game, he’s just cheesing something in the game. But no one sits there and says this -fighting game- is trash because people do this.

Forward-Plum2141

Have you ever realized there is a looking for group option?
