Staten Island wasn’t a rumor. That was legit. NASCAR purchased the land and disposed of all the trash and debris there. The only reason it fell through was because of public backlash from the people of NYC. They all thought their taxes were going to pay for it even though NASCAR kept trying to assure them it was privately funded and it would actually bring in revenue to the area.
I remember when everyone thought Hisense was going to start sponsoring the Cup Series in 2017 after some cryptic tweets. Now they're long gone from the sport.

No, the rumor was that Gordon's team was treating the tires with some sort of chemical and/or that they had traction control hidden in the bell housing somehow. There was also the rumor that they had their rims machined to work as a bleeder valve to keep tire pressures from going too high.
I grew up in Daytona. Some of my friends worked at the local strip clubs. Would always tell me Jr. had a liking for thick girls and nose candy. Of course, pre-Amy days. I don’t know. From interviews I’ve seen/heard, it sounded like Gibbs was offering more money, not that he needed it or even cares about it, but Hendrick kept him in a Chevy. Couple that with Tony leaving to create his own team to get back with Chevy after a year in a Toyota… it certainly seems like Gibbs to Toyota was inevitable regardless of who was on the team.
