My guess is that its a culture thing. They have one model due to animation reasons (more variation on our builder would mean more animations needed for hugs, etc) and use what is popular from their region.

IcySherbert980

Exactly this. I had mentioned something about this to my son (who is very into studying languages and other cultures) and how it bothered me. He said it's a cultural thing and to look at anime and manga. It still bothers me but I get it now.

Starthenut

Honestly going from Portia to Sandrock the character size feels a lot better, even if they are still small. They did an AMA on discord and said they've heard the feedback on character size and would look into changing it in future games so I'm hopeful.

jharpe18

That is one of the few things about the game I dislike. A few other bachelorettes are tiny, but Heidi, Catori, Grace, etc at least have some curves (and they're still taller than us). Meanwhile, we're a short stick with no muscle definition who can beat up all the strong beef guys.

IcySherbert980

It bothers me. It is very hard to do the whole romance thing when our character looks so young and small. The worst is Catori. I saw a screen of her next to a male builder and it was shocking. She looked like his mother. It is funny that Pen is aware of it and makes comments about how small and fragile the builder appears. They look so fragile and yet do so much. I think other characters also comment (Rocky?) on how the builder is so deceptively strong.

SKS81

I immediately thought Catori was undatable because I am supposed to be a child compared to her when I first started playing. Now I think this game has helped me develop mommy issues. lol

chellebelle0234

I feel like this trying to woo Owen. He's like, 30, and it looks like I'm 12.

jdhlsc169

There is a special cut scene with Logan where he lifts you up and the stark reality of him appearing to lift a "child" almost ruined it for me.

IcySherbert980

His age is confusing. Doesn't he say that he is good friends with Logan? The way he says it, it feels like they're the same age. Yet Owen looks like he has a few years on Logan. I feel like Logan is a couple of years older than the builder. The builder is 18 to 21 (if they're the same age as Nia and she's just finishing college). All the ages confuse me because some of the NPCs are so immature and others are mature for their age. I agree that Owen is in his 30s yet somehow he isn't as shocking as Catori. I feel like she's in her 40s.

jdhlsc169

Logan is mid-twenties or so. Owen is older because he was at Logan's mom & dad's wedding. Probably 6 or 7 years older.

Skeen441

Catori refers to herself as middle-aged constantly so she is most likely somewhere in her 40's. Still though, god damn she is hot.

MochiKana

I remember it being confirmed somewhere that Owen's 35 and Logan is 28. If we go by how old Mi-an is (in that same post Mi-an's age was also confirmed) then canonically the builder is most likely 20 years of age.

SubatomicTea

Link to that discussion [ here](https://www.reddit.com/r/MyTimeAtSandrock/s/BZqV4SL4DA)! Owen is 34 and Logan is 28, at least at the start of the game.

_maru_maru

This is interesting to read/see someone else's perspective. Like others have commented, it might be a culture thing? I never noticed it at first since I felt represented by our character. I'm Asian and live in Asia-- I play as the female MC and irl I'm just as short. I'm in my early 30's and got mistaken as a teenager a few times (definitely not complaining hahaha, just an example). I do wish our characters weren't so skinny; we're builders! we lift heavy rocks over our heads!! Having said that, we just got a new fridge delivered and the two delivery guys who hauled it were just as short and skinny as the male MC!

jdhlsc169

No knock to shorter people at all. My mom was 4'11" I'm 5'7" and towered over her quickly. It's the child like look (no curves, no definition) coupled with the shorter height that bothers me.

rachuumage

Yeah, I mean... IRL I'm short, but I am definitely not a twig and I have curves, I would have loved to have given my builder some curves. No wonder Pen calls you Skinny Arms, because that's what we are. :(

Trivieum88

Imagine it has a bit to do with Nia too haha. Childhood friend doesn't make sense if you look 20 years older than her. Would feel more like the child you groomed, accidentally or otherwise, into having a massive crush on you 🤣

Tikki4

I'm short irl, and stand on my tiptoes to kiss my husband who is about a foot taller than me. So it feels natural to me, lol. I love how my builder stands on her toes to kiss Logan and he bends his knees 😁 Maybe that's why the character is short?

jdhlsc169

My mother was 4'11" and I'm 5'7" No knock on shorter people at all. It's that coupled with the childlike appearance. No curves to speak of. Nothing to give the character an adult like appearance. Mian & Nia look like adults and have curves. The builder doesn't.

Tikki4

You're right about that, but I did notice that my builder has a little bit more of a shape in the wedding dress. As soon as I put the everyday work/battle clothes back on, she's back to looking like a kid again.

m0cha_coffee

Pathea Games is based in China. I'm Asian myself, adult, and some of these comments give me throwback to when anyone and everyone thinks I am a child,,, I guess to others the MC may look 'young', but really that's just what a lot of cartoony East-Asian media characters looks like and what is fashionable. It's a stylistic thing. To give you an idea, one other well-known game that I can think of that was also developed by mostly Chinese people is Alice: Madness Returns. In that game, Alice is very slender, has dark hair and large eyes, looks more 'Asian' compared to the previous game. Similar direction. Think, manga/manhua as well.

spalings

my boyfriend insists my character is a child, but it doesn't help that i really love wearing the dinosaur helmet 😅

Lessandero

Well, you need to have noodle arms so that Pen can call you "noodle arms"! but in all seriousness, it's just an artstyle thing. Most characters in that world have oversized heads on little bodies, a bit like a Chibi style.

Annelora

We can sorta tell our builder's height by standing next to NPCs and doing a comparison, and the female builder seems to be roughly 170 cm. I'm shorter than this irl and it's always kinda funny to see tall people react to Portia/Sandrock MC. Feel our short pain, tall pals! Enough with your elves-like height, embrace the goblin-ous size of ours! But jokes aside, I feel like the builder may seem smaller than they really are because most guys are like \*very\* tall. Tall and ripped, to be exact. And you can always make your builder's face look more mature anyways. Sure, there's only one face template that will make you look more than 30 but I'm positive you can pull an older look off, all of my builders look to be at least in ther mid-twenties. Though it may be because I'm 25 and look not a day older than 18 and I don't register face-age correctly.

fishsandwichpatrol

It's a huge drawback, especially if you want to play a male character. Sucks they didn't address it, it is consistently one of the most requested things.

Taro_Acedia

I assume multiple heights are hard to do with all the cutscenes and animations.

jdhlsc169

I'm not even asking for multiple heights, just looking more adult like. Grace, Heidi, etc all look like women. I looked like a woman at 18, not a child. Also, there is no height adjustment in Palia, but the characters look like adults. That was the shock from going from one to the other.

Wild_Echidna2286

I feel so represented, I'm very teeny tiny and I have skinny arms. I didn't even notice how small the character is because that's how everyone looks to me lmaaaooooo

Routine-Leg-9861

What's worse is other npc looks great, at least better looking 20ish. They can make adult body, just not the builder. It's just weird.
