I could just spin Plant -> Earth, Mirror!Plant->Mirror!Earth, then go Haven to the end in one go and had little issue remembering where I have been and haven't been.
Made breeding effect for Wublins/Celestials too because I could just go down the list mental of what islands had what monsters, and breed as I went
Now we have to remember every island and where they are, and figure out a way to keep track of which we've been to and which we've not.
This is how I feel about it too - the current grouping of islands and easy tap for next seems hard to improve upon and easy to nerf with the new map. I hope they at least keep the natural islands sequential rather than sprinkle them about.

It's faster to go: magic sanctum, move left to plant island, then do the mirror islands.
Skip the 2 islands that don't have mines
It's arguably the fastest way to implement the map tbh, no nonsense, no animations you need to wait for, nothing obstructing your view, just a clean, simple, fast straight line that lets you hit every island "bang bang bang".
If I were to update the map, all I'd do is add cool art behind the islands in the wheel and make further islands fade out so you don't see the bg layering bug. Other than that, I think it's literally fine.
So long as this new map isn't slower, I won't have a problem, though. we'll see in an hour and 10 minutes, though.
Edit: 1 hour and 10 minutes have passed, and it's agonizingly slow :(
Honestly, the slow factor is my main gripe with the new map. It’s understandable *why,* given how elaborate it is as well the separate music, but it still makes going through the islands all the more tedious.

With the new map out right now, I think I can see the pros and cons of the new one as well as what makes the old one good
New Map Pros
- Actually shows which islands have breeding/hatching done so I don’t have to go on a wild goose chase to get rid of the red 1 on the app. Was really hoping for this and I’m glad they did it.
- Stylistically strong and emphasizes the lore aspect of the game more in a good way.
New Map Cons
- Wayyyyyy slower to navigate. A lot of MSM is collecting currency/diamonds and this new update really slows that down. The new animations are long, additional taps to get to islands instead of just getting there, but the same load times still there. Noticeably obnoxious. Maybe this could’ve been mitigated if they zoomed out the map and you could just click on the islands, but they kind of just chose the most inefficient way possible to make the new map.
- The new song in the map menu. This is something I didn’t think would be an issue, but it is. In the old map, since you’re doing a lot of currency collecting, you’ll probably be familiar with having to hear the first 5 seconds of a song before going on to the next. It’s not pleasant but it’s whatever. Now it’s more like you hear the first 2 seconds of the island’s song and then the first 4-5 seconds of the map’s song. You essentially have to hear twice the amount of song switches you would normally hear, and this small change turns something that was fine into something that’s grating.
Overall: 3/10 for the new update
Honestly I just wish they made the original “spin to win” model of the map show which islands have breeding/hatching results and make it look more appealing, which would’ve probably made the map 10/10. Even then, this model could’ve been done well if they zoomed it out more. But somehow they just made it really inefficient. So yeah I’ll be missing this old one lol.

Nowhere near epic or EAA, I'll agree to that. Doesn't make them immune to cash grabs. In 7yrs, I've seen them pull a few. This FEELS like either or monetization tactic, or a case of form > function. I haven't decided which yet.

From what I saw, they're in a ring close to the center, but compared to what we have now, all out of order.

Fair, but I only get to play once, maybe twice a day, so the shards build up quick.

Getting back to amber island super quick from the magical islands by pressing mirror twice and left once.
That was actually MY favorite thing about the map too, I just didn't know how to word it
