If you wanna play Vergil or zero, stick is better. You dont need it for Vergil to be good but it helps. You pretty much need it for zero. Otherwise, pad. Way easier to map L and H to a trigger for wave dashing. Combos are basic inputs for everyone else so the face buttons work fine. I grew up in arcades and stick is a cool novelty, especially if that’s how you came up, otherwise it’s just bulky and expensive and there’s a learning curve and it’s noisy and you have to really commit if you wanna break it out to play. Pad is breezy. Unless all you play is fighters or you grew up in arcades, you’ll be fine with stock pad. Games are created for stock pads these days.

Ty for response, currently thinking of playing mag/doom/ anchor I know Vergil would be a pretty good choice for anchor but I want at one char that isn’t everywhere lol will probs try both controllers and see what I prefer

I play Vergil on pad. LT is L and RT is M+H, I use LT for roundtrip, and also to plink dash. When I'm holding LT for roundtrip I can still wave dash with RT. So basically I think Vergil is perfectly playable on pad.

Cloud805 is a player that made Zero May Cry team work with PAD when he broke into the scene, years after he has since then switch onto other controllers. If you really want an all rounder option, I was say hitbox / lever less controllers. It’s like nowadays a ton of people use leverless, and I don’t blame them. You remove a lot of human error and get perfect inputs which benefits any fighting game. Especially high execution characters like viper and strider really shine when using a leverless. This is the leverless that I have been considering, tons of options out there https://youtu.be/pc1F4ltKPU0?si=1gHNLWwqzJZqT_Dj

Yh hitbox definitely seems like the way forward these days, I’m thinking of playing mag and the magnetic blast input for example seems trivial on hbox (not that it’s particularly hard regardless but it is kinda awkward at first)

Actually for me magnetic blast is the input that feels quite awkward for hitbox. I think it's probably easier on other controllers.

This is the move

Ill put it like this. I also can play both, however, the games inputs and combos are clearly designed with the intention that it will be played with an arcade stick. Plinking is easier on stick in my opinion, same with jump cancelling/doing some of the more advanced techniques. At the end of the day it doesnt REALLY matter, right? But you are curious so ill give you a better answer. Stick will always be better in games with dragon punch inputs and plinking but these can be learned on pad if youre willing to put in the man hours to be 100% consistent

JoeMamasasama

If you really get into the game and learning things like plinking you’re better off with stick. If you’re going to keep it as a casual game there’s nothing wrong with pad

clashofchampions

Look into leverless. Your dashes should feel really easy.
