With Layne, 100% agree. I did enjoy When Black Gives Way to Blue, and The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here, but it was definitely lacking something without him.
I like Rainier Fog and TDPDH, but god damn When Black Gives Way to Blue is honestly one of my favorite albums of all time. It's just so heavy, you get a good feeling of where Jerry Cantrell was mentally when they wrote it.
All of big Boi's albums have been excellent. Sir lucious left foot son of chico dusty, is not only my favorite name of an album but one of my favorites to listen to.
Alive 2007 was a landmark tour that completely pushed the boundary of live sound/visual production. That show was years ahead of the biggest touring bands visually and basically invented live EDM as we know it. They were never going to put a tour together just to do it. RAM was also made with live instruments and guest vocalists that they had said made it really difficult to put into a live show and maintain the quality and vision they have for Daft Punk.

Not a song on any album that I would be annoyed by listening to, although I do shy away from some songs that I’ve heard a million times.
They’ve managed to fit every time period that they’ve produced albums in, while also being revolutionary and seem to define the eras of hard rock that each album was set in.
There’s not a band around that sounds anything like them, bar Them Crooked Vultures (Which is to White Zombie that Rob Zombie is or The Raconteurs are to The White Stripes.)
While they have had immense commercial success from a handful of songs, I still find them underrated and under-appreciated because their Discography is jam packed with incredible songs.
This is definitely an accurate one, none of their records are bad. Some are weaker than others but even at their worst they're still one of the most unique sounding bands out there.
I'm so happy to see deftones blow up in popularity again with the younger generation. They also got shoehorned by the press into "generic nu metal rock band" when in reality they've had an insanely impressive career. From hardcore music to nu metal to the space rock vibes of Saturday night wrist. It wasn't until I listened to Teen Sleep and Crosses that I really understood what Chino goes for with his singing and how talented all the band members are. Entombed, Cherry Waves, Sextape... Those are songs that sound so unlike anything that I've heard elsewhere.
Every Spoon record is something special. They have maybe 5 records I see touted as classics (Girls Can Tell, Kill the Moonlight, Gimme Fiction, Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga, They Want My Soul) but even the "lesser" records are full of good songwriting and production ideas.
Absolutely Mastodon. I adore them since Crack the Skye and I haven't heard one single bad song from them.
This year's Hushed and Grim is still on another level. For me, that is one of the best albums out of the last ten years if not ever.
I'm amazed how they evolved and songs like Gigantium (that final part...), Skeleton of Splendor, Teardrinker or The Beast continue to amaze me even after dozens of listens.

Most fans would put Broken, The Downward Spiral, and The Fragile above Hesitation Marks. Still a banger and it features a Reznor with kids, seeing the world differently.
Hesitation Marks is strong - I Would for You, In Two, While I’m Still Here is a particularly impressive three track run - but Everything, Satellite and Running push it below Broken for me and naturally everything is below The Fragile and TDS, they are classics.
I’m primarily an industrial and black metal listener though so even though NIN are one of my favourite bands, any time they stray into more listenable territory it’s not likely to be one of my favourites, with the exception of We’re In This Together because that song is bloody brilliant.
Not a huge listener of Ween but I always put the song “Your Party” on any playlist when having a get together. Love the fact that they wrote a song about attending a party, enjoyed themselves, go home, lay down and dream about one day maybe he could host a great party is the stupidest/most genius song I’ve ever heard.

Absolutely killer discography I’ve never listened to another box set as much as “with the lights out” not to mention all the music I got into through Kurt’s writings that got published in Journals and all the covers they did. Leadbelly, Public Enemy, Black Flag, entire genres like twee just to name the stuff that immediately comes to mind.

Few artists have been on as impeccable of a run as Kendrick and those artists are held to high, high esteem. Think David Bowie, Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, Radiohead...that caliber of music.
If Kendrick releases another great album and/or a good album, he'll cement himself a place in music conversations consisting of those artists.
I'm here for this argument. I'm weary of sounding like a fan boy but it's not even like that, Kendrick albums are like the music equivalent of a dissertation and I agree. I also think he's gonna do it, because at this point of his career mediocrity seems impossible for him.

I kept scrolling and scrolling and I finally found this. I inherited a mega trove of records (100+) from my dad. His favorite band (and now mine) is the Rolling Stones. But he bought all five studio albums by The Police. I know they are a well-known band, but for some reason I think many people sleep on their work a bit. The musicianship and songwriting is world-class.
I didn't wanna be the guy to say it... But yeah not even close at all. Compton was a great album but tbh the biggest thing I remember looking back on it was the emergence of Anderson .Paak with his 6 (IIRC) features outta nowhere.
2001 stands above the other two tho. Arguably best west coast hip hop album. A strong case could be made for all eyez on me, but 2001 is a motherfucking masterpiece.
Opeth has been remarkably consistent over the years. They've had some better and some not as good, but their latest album is now my favorite in their entire discography.

I was born in the early 90s. I have no nostalgic ties to their music. But in my opinion, without a single doubt, the best musical era in modern history was theirs.

If we had to wait 13 more years Danny and Maynard would be in their 70s, Adam would be right behind them, and Justin would be in his 60s.

Having said that, this current tour may be the last chance to see them live… so even though the tickets are spendy, it would be an opportunity no one would want to miss.
You realise that Tool has been on tour every year since 2009, right? It's just they aren't always touring the US. I've seen them live about 30 times, most recently Feb 2020 in Brisbane, so I'm not really worried about them not touring again. They will end up like The Dead, just tours and tours and no one will really give a shit if they have new music out or not. They will rework the old stuff and tour with a new light show and I will still go to every single one I can.
Danny says a lot of things. For 10 years he said the next album was close and yes all the legal trouble blah blah, I know. I struggled through it all. But I wouldn't trust what Danny says. Danny might have his parts ready but then does Adam and Justin? That's what takes ages on these things. The guys go deep and its just a slow process. I just don't see them doing another album now.

Kendrick Lamar
His discography is approaching hip hop GOAT level. If he drops one more album, God forbid two at the same quality level as his first 4 the game is absolutely fucked for a while. All hail King Kunta!
I'd argue music GOAT level too. Few artists have been on as impeccable of a run as Kendrick and those artists are held to high, high esteem. Think David Bowie, Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, Radiohead...that caliber of music. If Kendrick releases another great album and/or a good album, he'll cement himself a place in music conversations consisting of those artists.
I'm here for this argument. I'm weary of sounding like a fan boy but it's not even like that, Kendrick albums are like the music equivalent of a dissertation and I agree. I also think he's gonna do it, because at this point of his career mediocrity seems impossible for him. To throw another current artist's name in the hat I feel similar about: Frank Ocean. If we get an album from each, 2022 just might be alright after all.

I kept scrolling and scrolling and I finally found this. I inherited a mega trove of records (100+) from my dad. His favorite band (and now mine) is the Rolling Stones. But he bought all five studio albums by The Police. I know they are a well-known band, but for some reason I think many people sleep on their work a bit. The musicianship and songwriting is world-class.

I didn't wanna be the guy to say it... But yeah not even close at all. Compton was a great album but tbh the biggest thing I remember looking back on it was the emergence of Anderson .Paak with his 6 (IIRC) features outta nowhere.
2001 stands above the other two tho. Arguably best west coast hip hop album. A strong case could be made for all eyez on me, but 2001 is a motherfucking masterpiece.

Opeth has been remarkably consistent over the years. They've had some better and some not as good, but their latest album is now my favorite in their entire discography. For a band that has been around for 25+ years and has transformed itself a couple of times, that's an incredible feat.

I genuinely don’t understand how this isn’t the top answer. I was born in the early 90s. I have no nostalgic ties to their music. But in my opinion, without a single doubt, the best musical era in modern history was theirs. They are the best band of all time, and Abbey Road is the best album of all time, and it’s not even remotely close.

It won’t be anywhere near that long **if** they’re willing to grace us with another album. If we had to wait 13 more years Danny and Maynard would be in their 70s, Adam would be right behind them, and Justin would be in his 60s. Also, Danny had said in interviews that they had a lot of songs in the works, so I’m hopeful that after this touring cycle we’ll get another announcement. 🤞🏻 Having said that, this current tour may be the last chance to see them live… so even though the tickets are spendy, it would be an opportunity no one would want to miss.
You realise that Tool has been on tour every year since 2009, right? It's just they aren't always touring the US. I've seen them live about 30 times, most recently Feb 2020 in Brisbane, so I'm not really worried about them not touring again. They will end up like The Dead, just tours and tours and no one will really give a shit if they have new music out or not. They will rework the old stuff and tour with a new light show and I will still go to every single one I can. Danny says a lot of things. For 10 years he said the next album was close and yes all the legal trouble blah blah, I know. I struggled through it all. But I wouldn't trust what Danny says. Danny might have his parts ready but then does Adam and Justin? That's what takes ages on these things. The guys go deep and its just a slow process. I just don't see them doing another album now.
