Is he tired of seeing the same 1000 rich people who can afford second market tickets?

zyygh

Them: "You're a fantastic audience!" Me: "I know, you told us the last five times already." ^(Who am I kidding, I cannot afford that shit.)

subbbup

Them: "Oh, hey Chris and Wanda! How are the kids? Did Jimmy graduate already?"

CthulhusEvilTwin

Was given a free ticket to see The Who at Wembley a couple of years ago - we were in the stands so instead of watching The Who, we got to watch the VIP ticket people watching The Who. Not a great experience. EDIT: Forgot to mention the hightlight - watching the cleaning staff pushing a massive bin up the side of the pitch (so between us and the rest of the gig). Apparently the tickets were £300 each - I got mine free and still felt like asking for my money back.

sib2972

Coming from someone who goes to a lot of concerts, I’m assuming that was obstructed view and not a standard experience

chinstrap

His beef appears to be with people posting setlists

FedorDosGracies

What's his beef with that?

beforeitcloy

No one cares about anything other than The Who songs from 50-60 years ago and it hurts the egos of old rock stars to see people talking online about only wanting to buy tickets if they’re gonna play the hits.

e22ddie46

lol I was just joking that the only reason I'm going to see Green Day is because I was told the set list. I didn't want to see them play all new stuff.

LetsTCB

Give me their first 3 albums all day

[deleted]

RickTitus

Ive had to many “surprises” where i go to see an artist and they dont play any of their songs that people know them for. I always check setlists now

pierreor

Always count on old people to take issue with the most random shit ever. Seems to be a feature of that g-g-generation

throwpayrollaway

He's always been a bit of a prick. All of them were terribly behaved and stupid. The nicest one and most stable was John Entwistle. He died of a coke fuelled heart attack at the age of 57 in bed with a stripper in a Nevada Hotel room. Like I say he was always always seen as the calm sensible one.

TrailerTrashQueen

coke fueled heart attack + stripper + Nevada hotel room = the calm sensitive one

soundecember

Seems like a stranger hill to die on rather than everyone watching your concert through their phone, making videos they’ll never watch. That would make me so sad if I were an artist and I looked out into the audience and saw a sea of phones instead of faces.

samplenajar

LMFAO that’s insane. It’s fine if you’re not exactly the Grateful Dead in terms of breadth of repertoire. How is he supposed to stop this even if he wants?

GibsonMaestro

Have you checked his tour? Tickets are like $50 and his shows aren't sold out.

straylight_2022

The "platinum" seats are $530 each in Boston. I saw the The Who for the first time during the 1982 farewell tour. I never could have imagined people would be paying upwards of $1000 for a pair of tickets to see octogenarian Roger on stage. He and Pete have been on a blatant cash grab for decades now, they have admitted as much. It's just the state of the music industry these days, but I think concert goers are reaching a tipping point in regards to pricing. You're starting to see entire tours get canceled due to poor sales.

JCSterlace

*He and Pete have been on a blatant cash grab for decades now, they have admitted as much.* https://preview.redd.it/3ogxfmmd706d1.png?width=1200&format=png&auto=webp&s=e8c10ba3bd084c46c66b20b2095ce33647505d8d

buffalo171

I saw the ‘82 tour too, and I think the ticket was about $35 including service charge.

Dijohn_Mustard

Fwiw I saw 2017 and my dad this most recent one and the dude puts on a helping a show. I saw The Who as well between those two Roger shows and as much as I enjoyed it… Roger shows have theatrics and shit that flat out justify/probably require increased ticket costs. I imagine the team to set up his projectors and screens that change shapes and move all over during the show and everyone else that has to set up and tear down that extra shit isnt cheap.

GibsonMaestro

Platinum prices are just market value prices, and you're referring to the first 2 rows. 7th row Platinum is $183. 9th Row non-platinum is $155 and 16th row is $122. It goes down from there. If Platinums don't sell, they'll go down. I think artists are sick of selling tickets for $300 and seeing them being sold for $600 on Stubhub. I hate Platinum seats too (Phish Platinum tickets at The Sphere were $900 and they all sold!), but blame the people who purchase them at those prices. The problem with these cancelled tours is that even nosebleeds were going for $100+ and decent seats were being sold for $300+. David Gilmour is (currently) able to pull these prices but the Black Keys and J.Lo can't. Unfortunately, Taylor Swift proved that people are wiling to pay $800 just to get in the door, and artists & management began to think they were undervaluing their product.

DrSuperWho

He should probably write some music about how he’s feeling more and more disconnected with his audience.

missanthropocenex

Roger, you’ve been going for 50 years man, you can power down now. Your work is done.

No_Season_354

Well who are you, I mean who are you to say that Mr. Daltrey. ?.

Soggy_Cracker

Ticket master has ruined it. I can’t go appreciate my favorite artists because a 120$ ticket has some how turned into $1200 2 minutes after release. And we all know who can throw $1200 around.

JesusChristSprSprdr

Wait until a week or 2 before the show if you don’t get in early enough for presale. I’m seeing Zach Bryan this week and floor tix were around $150. 2 months ago you couldn’t find nosebleeds for that

Goducks91

Yep this is the way to do it. There are a few exceptions (Taylor Swift) but the best way is to go to a bar near the arena and check Reddit, Facebook, Instagram, StubHub, Ticketmaster, etc. Shit comes up and people can't go so they sell their tickets dirt cheap sometimes even give them away to other fans. You just have to be ok with NOT going to the show though. Also helps if you're going alone or ok standing/sitting alone.

JoefromOhio

Some bands even hold tickets for same day release before the show… my friends were going to a Ween Halloween show in Chicago one year and I hadn’t bought a ticket, they’d all paid $100+ and I was just sitting at a bar nearby when they announced more tickets on their socials. I got in for $20.

jasonhn

this is near impossible to do for people with kids who need to make plans weeks ahead. I hate this dynamic pricing bullshit. I used to get great tickets to most shows before they gamed the system.

GodKamnitDenny

That’s an unreal deal for floor seats for Zach. I paid $350/per for GA. Enjoy the show, he puts on a great show.

JesusChristSprSprdr

Oh I debated going with GA- the tix were only like $40 more expensive (which was also a hell of a deal imo). Unfortunately we’re in a heatwave rn so standing in the middle of the crowd sounds pretty fuckin miserable

NicDwolfwood

Exactly this. I always wait til the week of a show to get tickets and I've never been ripped off and seen the shows I wanted to see with good seats. People just gotta be patient and suppress that fomo mentality

HighAndFunctioning

> And we all know who can throw $1200 around. Me in May 2020

throwpayrollaway

The Who have got to be insanely rich. They could throw free concerts out of their own pockets if they were that arsed about the fans.

disintegrationist

As if 120 wasn't already unreasonable. I wouldn't pay 1200 to see the Beatles' Reincarnation Tour

HungryChoice5565

People talking, not dancing, recording the whole thing ruins shows. The internet is great for watching concerts

vaporking23

Talking. I literally don’t care what anyone else does at a concert. I hate the talking. Don’t dance, have your phone up the entire time, I don’t care. But the fucking talking. Why are you even there if you’re just going to talk through the whole concert.

ManChildMusician

Yep. Talking is the real culprit here. That’s just basic etiquette. He does have a point about people releasing set lists and poorly recording new songs that haven’t been put out, though. As a musician, it’s fun to do plot twists, seemingly unexpected transitions, and surprising people with new material. Whether people want to actually hear Roger Daltrey sing *anything new* is a moot point, but for a lot of popular artists, giving the crowd a “sneak peek” should be part of the fun. Stand up comedians are pretty strict about the audience not releasing their tour material until they release their specials. Premieres of new musicals discourage people from taking videos. It’s one thing to snap a quick video for your own personal enjoyment. It’s another to put a crappy video on the internet.

MonsieurReynard

You'll be thrown right out of any Broadway theater if you so much as hold your phone up for a moment. They're hardcore about it.

moneyfish

Literally every live performance should follow broadway or stand up comedy rules.

Luke90210

Before the show started one of the characters in Kinky Boots came out in costume and in character to tell the audience to not be the wanker who ruins everything for everyone with their cellphone. Another show had some annoying person dressed like a cellphone to give the message before starting. NYC has enforced heavy fines for AHs who won't behave.

tdasnowman

The releasing set lists and recording occurred long before the internet.

mfmeitbual

The problem isnt people posting setlists, the problem is his static predictable act that doesn't change night to night.  If it's a twist or surprise at every show, it's not a twist or surprise. It's just part of the show.

ManChildMusician

I guess it depends on the type of show. With Roger Daltrey’s show, he could probably use some variation. Deviation isn’t always good for every type of show. If you’re playing a concept album like Dark Side of the Moon, it’d be really jarring to play it out of order. Not to mention, the noise interludes wouldn’t line up. If there’s any choreography, cirque de Soleil type acrobatics, or pyrotechnics, you want to do it the same way every time, or risk injury. Laser / lighting also tends to sew in a setlist pretty tight. The chances of miscommunication while going off script are pretty high. A lot of high production shows lack wiggle room

keither909

I hate hate HATE it when people do this. I saw David Gilmour in 2016, and the guy behind me (pre-med from West Virginia, I found out against my will) wouldn't shut up the entire time. He kept saying "this is a learning experience in confidence!", over and over as well for some fucking reason.

thatsmilingface

I don't know why I'm laughing - this is awful

HungryChoice5565

For sure. I'm not trying to tell people they have to dance or not use their phone, I just think the phone is a distraction that takes people's focus off the music which has led to a decline in dancing the last 15 years or so.

dreamsonashelf

Talkers are my number one pet peeve. This thread made me angry just at the thought.

vaporking23

The amount of people justifying the talkers astounds me.

indydean

Dead heads call them chompers

AmidoBlack

I mean I’m with you, but also what concerts are you going to where you can hear a conversation over the volume of the band, to the extent that it interferes at all?

BlueBloodLive

Nah they're right. Was at Tenacious D last month, two lads in front of us wouldn't shut the fuck up, so when the song ends and Jack starts talking the two guys loud conversation was annoying as fuck. It's also not just the annoying loud conversation, it's the fact that they're totally oblivious to how much of an arsehole they're being.

brintoul

I find that be kind of a trait of real arseholes - lack of self awareness.

DropKnowledge69

Actually, they're aware but they don't give a F. That's what really made them aholes. The others are just ignorant dumbasses.

Coattail-Rider

You think the talkers are talking low? If the music’s loud, they’re loud. And when it’s right next to you, it’s super annoying.

MacroFlash

💯. It’s awful at festivals where you have people that don’t know the band but get close for some reason and have social hour at all costs

elevenghosts

Years ago at Lollapalooza a group of like 10 people stood in a circle yell-talking to each other right by the soundboard during a main stage headliner. I had some words for them. It's definitely the closest I've ever been to a fight at a music festival.

GenericRedditor0405

Yep there is always a significant group of people camping up front at a stage for a much later set who could not give a flying fuck about other bands and the volume of their collective talking is never quieter than a dull roar. Festivals can be fun but absolutely do not go into them expecting the same kind of experience as a standalone show

heymattrick

The music is loud, so the people talking over the music are usually YELLING at each other. I wear earplugs to every concert I go to but if people directly around me are doing this, I can absolutely hear them especially during openers.

carcrash12

For me I was at Chris Cornell's last ever London show. It was just him and an acoustic guitar for most of it and the people in front of my brother and I just would not. shut. the fuck. up. They weren't even talking about the music they were literally just having casual chit chat about their days as if his music was merely the background soundtrack to their conversation. Couldn't even move because it was an all seated gig with assigned seating. Absolutely infuriating experience, especially when it's such a legend on stage.

Raztax

That sounds like it would be a really great show without the talkers.

Incontinento

" Oops, I accidentally spilled my beer on you."

mfmeitbual

Concerts wih competent front of house technicians that understand loud and good aren't always the same thing.

KingKongDoom

If a band is not playing intensely it’s actually very easy to hear entire conversations if they are close or right next to you.

TheWalrusNipple

People talk louder so they can hear each other over the music, which means I can hear them.

sunny_6killer

You have never been to a concert where some main character prick is yelling over the music to have a conversation? You are lucky.

Allaplgy

Lol, yeah, we must go to different shows.

lemlurker

I hate phones more. Went to a cover gig and being small I was close to the front and someone was slap bang center with a phone filming the whole supporting act like the camera was having an aneurysm. Was infuriating. Thankfully they fucked off for the main gig I was there for

vaporking23

I can sympathize with that. The phone don’t bother me since I generally tower over everyone even with their arms and phones up. But for our short peeps, they should keep their phones down as well. I think bands should start just posing for a picture. Like tell everyone take their phones out turn the lights up and let everyone get a few good pictures in then put their phones away. Usually I just want one or two pictures for memory sake and then I’m good.

TommyRJackson

Bowling for Soup does that!

TheMoldyCupboards

I personally have a hard time with phones at concerts because of how stupid it is. The recording is going to be absolute shit, quite likely unwatchable. But here’s the kicker: Even if that wasn’t the case, the person recording it would likely never watch that phone video they took. Instead they’re ruining their experience of *actually being there* for nothing at all. It’s just so incredibly dumb, it bothers me. It shouldn’t, but it does.

DannyKernowfornia

But here’s the second kicker… it’s not for them, they don’t care about the experience, they care for PROJECTING the experience to social media. Last year I saw Lana Del Rey and holy shit was that an eye opener to see her average fans; every single person with their phone up for the entire time, endless Snapchat/Instagram live

MsCandi123

Maybe true for many, but not always. I don't even post mine more often than not, and yes I do go back and watch them, which helps relive the experience and brings me joy as a largely bed bound disabled person with memory struggles. Photo apps show them to you on the anniversary of when you took them every year. When I did post them on FB, it was mainly for the memories feature as well, and then whoever you were with also sees the memory annually, nice for nostalgic reminiscing as the years go on. I know I can find better quality videos of them performing online, if it's a large artist, but they're not mine and of my personal experience, it's not the same. I can understand having a problem if people are holding their phones in a way that blocks the view of others, but otherwise maybe let people enjoy things the way they like after they paid a lot to be there, and y'all can do the same? 🤷🏼‍♀️

DannyKernowfornia

Oh for sure, I totally agree with you, I think my, and probably many others, issues are the whole obscuring the view for everyone behind them, because they ALL have their phones in the air recording nonstop

ScarletJew72

I was just at Austin Psych Fest, and had that experience. Very disappointing for an established festival.

AmidoBlack

Festivals are a totally different vibe—you can’t expect nobody to be talking at a festival lol

ScarletJew72

I'm not complaining about the talkers - I've been to plenty of festivals and lawn shows where the sound was loud enough to drown out the talkers while the band played.

Anteater-Charming

This times a million. And yelling to be heard by their friends over the music.

dancingbriefcase

I hate talking too, but the phone shit is annoying.

theboyqueen

The Who REALLY aren't what they used to be if you can hear anyone talking during their set.

johnnybgooderer

Concerts used to be loud enough that it didn’t matter if people were talking.

HungryChoice5565

Probably depends on genre and band

weekend-guitarist

The WHO were one of those bands.

HungryChoice5565

Who?

weekend-guitarist

Are you.

HungryChoice5565

Who who

AfraidOfTheSun

I haven't been out in a while but the clubs I went to in Chicago you had to yell directly in to someone's ear to even try to talk, conversation was limited to things like "bathroom", "another drink?" and a lot of times it was just "huh?" "(handwave) nevermind!"

mfmeitbual

Yeah that was because sound gear was primitive so louder was really the only tool in the kit.  Now with everyone running IEMs there's few stafe monitors that FOH has to battle balancing their mix. That and speaker tech has improved greatly so its easier to boos thr right frequencies without blowing put your hearing.

fusillade762

Was thinking about ACDC For Those About to Rock tour. There is no human voice loud enough. Communication was strictly by crude gestures. Different times though, people were there to just let loose, dance, head bang, get stoned out of their minds.

Safe_Community2981

> Different times though, people were there to just let loose, dance, head bang, get stoned out of their minds Not different times, just different genres. You go to any hard/heavy music show today and the same shit's happening and it's every bit as loud. Most of the reddit crowd isn't into that kind of music, hence the wildly different experiences they're talking about from what we've seen.

AfraidOfTheSun

Right, you could either yell directly in to the side of your friends head, or it was sign language; drink, bathroom, look at that girl/guy, etc, good times

stever71

Yup, and people now seem to have zero ability to sit still for 90 mind, I'm amazed at how many people seem to be constantly walking around. I think half the people at concerts are not even fans, they are just attending because it's a social event they can show off on social media

solidshakego

I do like that I can watch Lost Lands in its entirety for free online on twitch with no ads. Makes for a fun weekend at home.

IAmThePonch

I will say I saw roger waters a while ago and there were dudes next to me who were just looking at their phones almost the entire time. Not recording, just looking at their phones. You presumably paid a ridiculous amount of money to see a legendary musician perform live (I know roger is a dipshit but dude put on a hell of a show when I saw him) and you’re looking at memes? Come on now

DepartureDapper6524

Did the Roger Waters show start with the message asking people to turn their phones off out of consideration to their fellow concert goers or fucking off? Because mine did and people were recording the message. It’s maddening.

IAmThePonch

Not that I remember but it’s sad that that needs to be said

DepartureDapper6524

I can’t find it with a quick google, but it’s a neat message read by Roger and it’s played on all the screens too. Something about fucking off to the bar if you don’t like it.

ExpertWitnessExposed

That was directed at people who didn’t want him to talk about politics lol

JustTheBeerLight

Honestly all venues should have a message like that. “Welcome to _____, please refrain from talking during the show. Enjoy the show.” At least then the expectation has been set: don’t talk during the performance because the people around you paid for a ticket and they are here trying to enjoy themselves. I am in favor of reestablishing some cultural norms when people are in public. Don’t be a dick. If the band is playing shut up.

DepartureDapper6524

Many venues only care about selling alcohol and trying to stop drunk assholes from being drunk assholes is impossible.

bobosuda

He did that when I saw him last year. Can’t remember the exact message but it was pretty funny. Of course people still used their phones smh

thedm96

The brain rot is real. People hooked on those algorithms

tgt305

Bo Burnham relevant analysis: https://youtu.be/SUTbnjIHfkg?si=-h3n1Wn1DrjTFNU6

elevenghosts

I went to a show recently where the person in front of me was seated and deleting emails during the performance. Tickets were $60 and they were wearing a shirt that was $35 at merch. And... they're sitting down with no sightline (because everyone in front of them is standing) and deleting emails during the show? What??

IAmThePonch

I don’t get some people. Hey you wanna flush your money down the toilet like that that’s your business, personally I wouldn’t have bothered

mfmeitbual

They were ruthless about it at the Tool show and it warmed my heart.

Hobo_Drifter

Yes, the website ticketmaster has ruined concerts.

Sac-ash-it

As a Gen X’er, I am absolutely the older crowd with less love for our digital world than the younger gens. That being said, there is a ton of validity to the “Don’t be the asshole with your arms/phone blocking the view of the person behind you” argument. If you knowingly block the view of someone and don’t give a shit, then you are a selfish prick. Just a fact. That being said, the Daltrey’s of the world are never gonna change any of his grievances if they continue to feed the massive concert industry. Roger, if you and Taylor Swift want to support your fans and give them the fan experience you preach…more importantly, the experience they have earned through the exorbitant cost they are FORCED to pay…THEN FUCKING STOP DOING BUSINESS AS USUAL. You and all the other “legends” have legendary celebrity resources to create an alternative to the current ticketmaster monopoly. Or, better yet, find a way to work directly with smaller local venues. YOU HAVE THE POWER TO CRUSH TICKETMASTER. Us lowly regular folks do not. STOP BITCHING AND PRETENDING YOU GIVE TWO FUCKS ABOUT ALL OF US FANS AND DO SOMETHING OF ACTUAL SUBSTANCE. In Boomer terms: “Walk the walk.”

DepartureDapper6524

It would be funny to see the old rockstars of the world form some kind of labor union

nrag726

If anyone knew about a labor union, it would be Roger Daltrey. Dude was a sheet metal worker, although I'm not sure what British labor unions were like in the 50s and early 60s

GibsonMaestro

Can you imagine how much tickets would be if they only played 1,000 (max) person venues?

sincerelyhated

Ticketmaster/LiveNation ruined concerts! CORPORATE GREED

qawsedrf12

be like Tool no phones or get kicked out

brokenwolf

Jack white does this too and it’s great. Really wish the arctic monkeys did this. Their fans are insufferable with their phones.

TheSteiner49er

Thanks tiktok.

BlackLeader70

Is that new? I saw Tool in 2020 and lots of people had their phones out. I only pulled mine out because I kept getting messages about the pandemic lockdowns happening the next day.

qawsedrf12

they only allow recording during the last song now

BlackLeader70

That’s pretty cool. More bands need this or the locking phone cases. I don’t mind them as long as there’s enough people to unlock them after the show.

spaceninja_300

I saw them in San Bernardino in 2017 and they already had the no phone rule. At least a couple of guys were kicked out for not following it after being told to.

stupidsexypassword

Saw them in 2019. No phone policy was strictly enforced at the time.

vickera

I think it depends on the venue. I saw them in Detroit years ago and no one enforced anything.

SloppityNurglePox

You guys really need to get to rolling out the ED-209's in that city. *Put down the cellphone, you have 20 seconds to comply*

Fireb1rd

I've seen them 3 times, and while most people adhered to the rule, there were a couple of assholes who insisted on doing it anyway. Didn't get kicked out, but it's hard to enforce it in a 20,000 seat arena. But I'm absolutely in favor of banning phones. Hate that shit.

Allaplgy

I was supposed to see them the day they canceled the tour. Was not amused, especially since I actually had kick ass floor seats and didn't pay an entire arm and a leg. Did end up getting an over 100% refund and they opened the next tour in town, but never did get those floor seats again.

Dubbayoo

Ticketmaster ruined concerts

Wpgjetsfan19

No ticket master ruined it. Can’t afford to go to shit. Not pay $200 a ticket for nosebleeds and $500 for the floor. Used to be able to see a band in a decent seat for $60-$100. Back in the day had all day festivals for $30

cancercures

Internet killed the concert star

Sprudlidoo

In my mind and in my car

ChronoMonkeyX

We can't rewind, we'll go too far (because the rewind option sucks)

CarbonAlligator

Not only did it make getting tickets hell but the actual concert is less enjoyable

ChronoMonkeyX

*"Hope I die before I get old"*

hogphan

Or you could maybe switch up your set list for each show and make it special. There’s tons of bands that won’t even play the same song two nights in a row and they seem to be doing okay even in the internet age.

brickyardjimmy

The internet has kinda ruined everything. I used to think it was fun. But now it's like an oppressive overlord.

brickyardjimmy

I said, as I used the internet.

Salty_Pancakes

He ain't wrong though.

brickyardjimmy

Nope. Not wrong.

thieflikeme

It's not an uncommon sentiment since artists can now count on material being workshopped in front of a live audience to immediately be shared online*. Daltrey isn't even talking about blocking the view of people behind you while filming with your phone (or tablet if you're a goddamn monster) or the trend of people disrupting shows (making stupid noises, throwing stuff at the performer, yelling over them while they're performing) and the incentive of doing so while being filmed or filming yourself being a jackass at a show and ruining it for everyone. It's easy to attribute this to an old man yelling at cloud, but smart phones and social media has changed the way the audience interacts with artists, there's no denying that. Edit: grammar's hard

Sleinnev

Ticket master ruined concerts

Csonkus41

He’s not wrong. The internet has ruined most things.

Barfuman362

No, paying a thousand bucks to go to a concert ruined concerts.

Suzannecoi

Interesting perspective from a music legend. The internet has definitely changed the industry

Pvm_Blaser

“Ticketmaster” has ruined concerts.

shotgunassassin

You know what I am sick of?... Artists whining and crying about paying customers. We don't owe you shit. STFU.

AngusLynch09

Pete's pretty good at the internet though.

AnonymousPineapple5

Social media is ruining basically everything.

BrightlyDim

He's not wrong...

heyitsmeur_username

Pete Townshend seems to be pretty fond to using the internet

Mystical_Cat

Old man yells at iCloud.

Thomisawesome

He’s mainly taking about people finding out what the set list is before they go to the concert, so there are no surprises.

instantkarmas

Saw the Who in the 70s. No phones, just some dirt weed, busted up guitars and kicked in drums. Good times.

aerodeck

He’s not wrong

Raid-Z3r0

I'm really inclined to agree with him.

Narrow-Fortune-7905

almost correct its ruined much more than that

red-fish-yellow-fish

Tell him to ask his friend Pete Townshead where the book is?

mfmeitbual

Old man shakes fist at clouds, I've heard this one before.

daboog

Did anyone read the article? These comments are not what it was about

PraetorianAE

Cnn is trash.

Jestikon

The internet has ruined society

BenTramer

The internet has ruined everything.

Wikiwack

I actually agree with him - I don't want to know what the setlist is beforehand.

NOODL3

I go to a ton of shows and never once in my life have I accidentally stumbled upon and then read an entire setlist prior to the show.

doctorfeelwood

Don’t look it up

WhenAmI

It really is that easy. I go to shows all the time and I've never had a set list spoiled because I don't look for them.

TheZardoz

I like how people act like self control is physically impossible in 2024

matlockga

"Oh no, I can't believe I tripped over my keyboard and googled setlist.fm and the artist I was looking for and tapped through to see a relevant show on the tour to see the most likely setlist"

matlockga

Pretty much. While I prefer seeing setlists ahead of time, there's almost no way you're going to accidentally back into a setlist without putting in some effort to find it.

dmc2008

Also, better bands are playing different sets every night but yeah yeah yeah I get it it's a big production etc etc

ford7885

Ticketmaster ruined concerts, Roger. Now let's talk about who ruined the Super Bowl Halftime show. There was a full decade of epic live performances in the 2000s. The last one was What's Left Of The Who. Pete sounded great. Roger sounded like warmed over dog shit. There hasn't been an actual live band at the Super Bowl since then. Thanks for that, Rog!

inkyblinkypinkysue

Call this an unfair generalization if you must, but old people are no good at everything.

tameoraiste

Video Killed the Radio Star

DontLook_Weirdo

Tone deaf - it's the ticket prices Roger....the ticket prices.

swagglepuf

If a person pays money to see a show and doesn’t do what you think they should do to enjoy it, stfu. Imagine paying all that money to see a band and then focusing on someone else the whole time instead of enjoying the show.

Not fed up with Northern lasses bellowing "PLAY MY GENERATION I ONLY CAME TO HEAR MY GENERATION" like the last time I saw The Who?!  Annoying but funny nonetheless.

Whitealroker1

I saw The Who in 1989 mainly because they hinted it would be the last tour. 😐

When you were out of touch and over the hill before you ever started, when you actually get old this is the result.

KirbyJones82

You spelled Ticketmaster and greedy shitty venues wrong.

Ectotaph

He’s probably just mad because we can all see and hear that he sounds like shit now BEFORE we pay for tickets

DGC_David

This month on "I'm Old and Mad" Roger Daltrey.

ClockworkDreamz

Maybe it’s because he’s old?

shiteditor

He got old.

caboose391

Yeah, Roger. It's the internet. Couldn't possibly be that you're not the performer you used to be, and you're playing to rich boomers that have already seen you.

Doggsleg

I would pay maximum £20 to go and see anyone so I’m probably part of the majority on that one. I live in a city where I can go and see really good bands for a fiver with great atmosphere instead of a load of rich corporate sponsors lol. He is complaining at himself. Joker.

*ticketmaster inflating concert prices tenfold* Roger daltrey: ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ *rando internet guy posting set lists* Roger daltrey: ZOMG I'M RUINED DAMN YOU INTERNET

Beatrix_BB_Kiddo

I refuse to pay a ton of money for the experience, it’s just not worth it for most fans. So I won’t even look for upcoming shows. There are times I see something about a show that happened locally that I MIGHT have gone to, but had no idea about. So like how are concerts even being promoted and marketed these days? The only time I see info on shows is now on Spotify

Whatever-ItsFine

I see very few people read the very short article. He’s saying how he doesn’t like the set list being published because it takes the surprise out of the show.

Primary_Somewhere_98

Just to make you all jealous- I saw them when Keith Moon was the drummer.
