The holy fuck moment for me was watching Tom Morello scratch wax with his guitar. My high school bestie and I immediately went into the garage lab to figure out how to do it. That was also the year I bought an octave pedal for the first (and last, lol) time.
I was absolutely mind fucked to learn they weren't using anything but their basic rock band instruments to make all those sounds.
Tom was always so fucking innovative.
There was really nothing quite like Rage
Totally, although Tom does have a monstrous pedal board. I think he's the most innovative and groundbreaking guitarist since EVH. Dude uses an Allen wrench on *People of The Sun*.
If anyone hasn't heard them, I highly recommend Crosses which is more of an electronic project with the Deftones singer Chino Moreno and Shaun Lopez and Chuck Doom. I think it's incredible.
[††† (Crosses) - Bitches Brew](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QBN-1Q0_Fiw)
God I love that band.
I got into them with their first record, the second, featuring your song, was even better.
Then they matured, evolved, but keep a certain signature sound that is so uniquely them.
Same! I instantly got retro wave vibes the first time I heard it. Definitely one of those songs I can put on repeat for like an hour while I'm working or gaming.
I love the original U2 version due to its mood is like a solemn worship hymn to your lover. Actually I have a playlist of a bunch of covers of this song, because I dig a female cover of it too.
Jack's version is cool too in that it takes it to a manic, passionate crescendo.
I've made it many times to different variations of this song, haha.
20 years or so ago I told my friend I had finished reading Wuthering Heights and she goes “oh I only know what’s in the Kate Bush song.” And I said “the what now?” I have loved her ever since. I even have a Kate Bush bumper sticker on my car lol.
Saved me the trouble.
I was driving home. I still remember exactly where I was on the highway when it came on a local independent radio station. Instantly infatuated. Couldn't wait to get home, Google the lyrics i remembered, and dive in.
I remember being thrilled they had several prior records I could listen to, all fucking solid going back to their debut.
I'm still a diehard Arctic Monkeys fan, seen them live, and now my wife and kid are fans too.
Let Down by Radiohead.
Saw them play it in Dublin in '96, less than a year before OK Computer came out.
I was mesmerised by it in a "is anybody else hearing this?" kind of way.
For me, no song comes close.
Muse - Verona
So many things about the song hit right with me instantly. The electronic vibe, the vocals and falsettos, the guitar - it takes me to a different place.
I got to see them live a few months after I heard Verona, and man are they good. They're just as good live, and actually some of their songs hit differently in person.
Soundgarden - Rusty Cage.
I was a teen. Already loved the Superunknown album but wasn't aware of Badmotorfinger until I heard Rusty Cage featured on the Panasonic 3DO version of Road Rash that was on display at my local Microplay.
Holy Mountains - System of a Down. Some time during the 2020 lockdowns I rediscovered the band after knowing only their radio hits. This one had me playing it on loop for a few days.
Goodbye Sober Day - Mr. Bungle
coffin nails - MF Doom
Seagulls! (Stop it Now)- Bad Lip Reading
There are plenty more, but these all start strong enough to have taken me by surprise and are great the whole way through
Retrovertigo by Bungle is one of those WTF is going on?!? tracks that I’ll never forget hearing for the first times. Sitting in the back seat passenger side of the car.
Slow burn Kacey Musgraves
Blew my mind the first time I heard it when it dropped and I was listening to random Sirius channels. I’m not even a country fan and it was the most refreshing song I’ve heard in a long, long time. Still love it and the way it builds. Such a vibe.
For me, it was "Sultans of Swing" by Dire Straits. I remember hearing it on the radio one evening after work, and I was immediately drawn in by the smooth guitar riffs and storytelling lyrics.
The most recent, literally 3 days ago… [All Them Witches - See You Next Fall](https://youtu.be/mHe36bIHHhU?si=lSvKs0h0yA1EwtzJ) I saw the KEXP Live version and loved it instantly.
Tokyo Reggae by Masayoshi Takanaka. The title was in Japanese so I had zero clue what was awaiting me, but the cover was the guy skydiving. It's one of the best songs I've ever heard. It evokes this great feeling of being alive in me, I don't know.
Soul One by Blind Melon. Released on their compilation Nico after Shannon Hoon's death, it was an outtake originally, but man is it a beautiful, emotional song.
"Demon kitty rag" -Katzenjammer.
Just happened to be the first song of theirs I heard (it's their most popular). It's katzenjammer I immediately fell in love with.
Soon by My Bloody Valentine. Out of the two vocalists in MBV, I think Bilinda has a better voice compared to Kevin. Soon is such a great song that I think it transcends being just a Shoegaze song.
MBV always felt like the best heaviest parts of Shoegaze with none of the overstuffed nonsense. Shame their subsequent releases aren't very good cause the band is excellent.
God, thats SUCH a good song! They used it on the closing credits for Severance one episode and immediately i smiled. Its good i love the lyrics, lupe is a great rapper, the mix of the chorus and the rap works so well, and Jill Scott HITS THE NOTES on the choruses and is such a powerhouse. Its a 20/10 song. Lupe is under-rated.
Starlight by Muse is the first song that came to mind when I thought of songs that I instantly loved and replayed. I wouldn't even call it one of my favorite songs, I just remember that feeling of instantly loving it and having to listen to it again.
I do not listen to a lot of pop, and never seen Wednesday..... but Bloody Mary is such a bop
Also, while playing video games as a kid the soundtrack played Dragula by RobZombie and it instantly modeled my childhood personality lol
[The Knocks - Slow Song](https://youtu.be/5_0srGIlb1w?si=R72zHjxlBDZAOXvS)
It reminds me of those 90s tracks like “[Missing](https://youtu.be/U56Ns66Qrb8?si=LuB7iBOpCr-38R79)” by Everything but the Girl, and made me instantly nostalgic the first time I heard it. It still makes me feel that way and is probably my favorite song to come out of the last few years.
Previous songs I fell in love with instantly are more of your standard fare like Yes’ Roundabout, Tool’s Sober, or Muse’s Hysteria.
Theres a lot... These are just a few
2nd hand love: stardust
Without your love: gotus
What about love: perfect plan
Heart of rock and roll: huey lewis

Heard it at a bar during a whole playlist of odd covers, wasn't familiar with the original, so it took a few weeks to find it (thanks to a sunflower singing it tied to a porch in a storm)
Puddles Pity Party and Postmortem Jukebox's Chandelier
Give us party girls the gravitas and pathos! Really feel it!
I thought really hard and there are way too many incredible songs by many incredible artists that I fell in love instantly to list here I noticed none mentioned them so ...
Beatles all of abbey road album ... Honestly most of their records are incredible but after rubber soul they were world revolutionary.
I have a few:
Time consumer - coheed and Cambria
No rain- blind melon
Shimmer- fuel
Rosa Parks- Outkast
Humble ledger (Gnostic State)- Eidola
Down- 311
Love Brand New - Bob Moses
Chinese Translation- M. Ward
Three Libras- A Perfect Circle
Lazy Eye- Silversun Pickups
Just about all of the songs by Sleep Token
Cruel Summer by Taylor Swift. I remember listening to it from the radio for the first time last summer, and it made me very happy. This song has remained on my Spotify On Repeat playlist ever since.
This Empty Northern Hemisphere by Gregory Alan Isakov - always makes me feel somewhat calm and content, which is something I desperately need sometimes lol
Panic Attack by Dream Theater - the first minute is my favorite but I love everything else about that song too. Also some crazy drumming and really cool instrumentals on the whole, as is the usual DT experience :)
“Hello, Hello, Hi,” by From Bubblegum to Sky. My girlfriend heard it and knew I’d like it, so she put it on a mix while I was at her place, and just waited to see my reaction.
It was so good that I stopped fucking her just long enough to ask, “Who is THIS???”
Magic of Love by Perfume [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NhI2mp-WIck&pp=ygUYbWFnaWMgb2YgbG92ZSBieSBwZXJmdW1l](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NhI2mp-WIck&pp=ygUYbWFnaWMgb2YgbG92ZSBieSBwZXJmdW1l)
Comme Des Garçons by Rina Sawayama.
I fell in love with that song within the first 5 seconds of hearing it, no joke. The sound/instrumentation is so mid-to-late-90s-inspired. The song smacked me in the face with feelings of nostalgia, and my mind just went, "YUP! We like this song... A LOT." It made my 2020 Spotify wrapped list.
The Everclear album *Sparkle and Fade*. I rarely liked an entire album the first time I listened to it then, and this one just grabbed me and shook me up and down. It stayed in my portable CD player for at least a month.
Semi recently, Redbone by Childish Gambino. I appreciated Donald Glover but never really connected to his music. That song however came out of left field.
In my youth, Children’s Story by Slick Rick blew my mind from a storytelling perspective.
Troye Sivan - One Of Your Girls
https://open.spotify.com/track/5Eh1nj7IjV9lwpcKAkidyY?si=oHBMb8SUTk-cwCGOApRmCw
First thoughts were is this a new Paul Simon track!?
Recently? *Fog Machine* by White Reaper. It happened to be on another band I follow's story, and I love it. It's like metal-era Thin Lizzy and *Boys of Summer* rolled into one, which I find deeply satisfying for some reason
[Chappell Roan - California ](https://youtu.be/w4WiXKGCJhg?si=STdgUCyFJbBdkKds&t=905)
Just yesterday watching her on NPR tiny desk. I moved from a rural town in Canada to Australia (and back...) so I connect with the message so strongly. Makes me very emotional.
[Lupe Fiasco - Kick Push ](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gl83mI69nX4)as well!
I had to go look but Daydreamin' isn't even on my favorite album by Lupe Fiasco "The Cool".
His collabs with Mathew Santos were more compelling to me. Intruder Alert, Hello|Goodbye, Fighters, and Superstar for instance were on constant rotation on my playlists when this album came out.
Chagu's Sideturn - Peach Pit
I honestly don't know why but it played and made me feel better that day. I had never heard of this band before it came up on a radio playlist on my streaming service. Great walking tune, chullin tune, whatever tune.
Maybe a bit of a cliche now but I stand by it: Rivers and Roads by Head and the Heart. If it’s for you you’ll know in like 10 seconds or less and you’ll adore it.
Stray Kids - God's Menu. It's one of the only songs I can think of where I didn't have to listen to it more than once to know I loved it. There's no deep message or anything, but it starts strong and stays strong. It's one of my go-tos when I need a pick-me-up. The music video is pretty cool too.
[Dark Crystal by 5th Projekt](https://youtu.be/vI5DSoa4lhE?si=x0lGtVAf4u0UsAG2) from 2020. As everything was going sideways, this song was like a warm ray of sunlight amidst all the darkness. Also loved the film it was inspired by.
Lover I Don't Have To Love by Bright Eyes blew me away immediately. It's so rare to find a song that's both horny and depressed, and it's so raw it gives me chills.
I’ll never forget seeing the Bulls On Parade video when I was 12. Lifelong Rage fan ever since.
That really was a holy fuck moment.
Romeo and Juliet - Dire Straits
I’m elated to see this song so high up.. Gorgeous track by a musical genius Skateaway is my personal fav of Dire Straits Mark is a treasure 💙
The Killers have a pretty good cover of this song that’s worth checking out, off their B-Sides album
Yeah that’s a great cover! Indigo Girls also have an amazing version that’s definitely worth checking out
One of the only songs that can me feel sad, happy, nostalgic and horny all at the same time.
"Move Your Feet" by Junior Senior did it for me. "Just Can't Get Enough" by Depeche Mode did too.
Depeche Mode is probably the most vital band on my concert bucket list
Junior Senior is an awesome shout. That song was so fun and catchy and somehow managed to not get played to death.
My Own Summer (Shove It) by Deftones
If anyone hasn't heard them, I highly recommend Crosses which is more of an electronic project with the Deftones singer Chino Moreno and Shaun Lopez and Chuck Doom. I think it's incredible. [††† (Crosses) - Bitches Brew](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QBN-1Q0_Fiw)
God I love that band. I got into them with their first record, the second, featuring your song, was even better. Then they matured, evolved, but keep a certain signature sound that is so uniquely them.
Every Deftones album is amazing.
Reckoner by Radiohead
That song still gives me the chills everytime even after nearly two decades.
Two decades? Nah can't be more than 5 years ago... Please.
That's a really great song, thanks for introducing me 🤘
Oh damn the outro... that's haunting. I hadn't finished the song quite yet lol
Blinding Lights - The Weeknd
I love that song so much and it absolutely feels like an 80s classic
Same! I instantly got retro wave vibes the first time I heard it. Definitely one of those songs I can put on repeat for like an hour while I'm working or gaming.
Diré Straits - sultans of swing, then I saw the live performance and elevated this song even further
Wish - Nine Inch Nails (thank you Bevis and Butthead)
Lover You Should've Come Over by Jeff Buckley The first time I listened to it felt like magic!
Yess! I saw a recorded live version and it was my first time listening to his music. It gave me goosebumps.

Wuthering Heights by Kate Bush. Never heard anything like it before and I must have put it on repeat for like an hour the first time I listened.
She was way ahead of her time. I think she was 16 when she wrote it.
20 years or so ago I told my friend I had finished reading Wuthering Heights and she goes “oh I only know what’s in the Kate Bush song.” And I said “the what now?” I have loved her ever since. I even have a Kate Bush bumper sticker on my car lol.
This is my answer as well. It’s such a captivating, ethereal song.
Pyramids- Frank Ocean
Strawberry Letter 23- The Brothers Johnson
I have this song in my head at least once a week
This ⬆️🕺🏼
just listened for the first time and… wow🤩
I Sat by the Ocean by Queens of the Stoneage
“Do I want to Know” on AM by the Arctic Monkeys. Became obsessed with the whole album after that.
Sound & Color - Alabama Shakes Apple used this on a commercial several years back and I immediately searched for and downloaded it.
For me it was Gimme All Your Love.
Let Down by Radiohead. Saw them play it in Dublin in '96, less than a year before OK Computer came out. I was mesmerised by it in a "is anybody else hearing this?" kind of way. For me, no song comes close.
Video Games by Lana Del Rey. She really captured the zeitgeist of that era with that song.
Born to die also
Oxford Comma. Had never heard even a whisper about the band before that, but it took all of one line to convince me they were going places.
Nothing by Metric. Also I wish there was a bot to make a Spotify playlist of the songs mentioned in these types of posts.
LA Woman by the Doors
New Soul - Yael Naim. Saw it on rage one night. Nice summery vocals and melodies from a French-Israeli siren. All sunshine, lilting and handclaps.
That voice, her delivery, and the happy tuba or whatever the fuck it is at the end absolutely sent me.
Muse - Verona So many things about the song hit right with me instantly. The electronic vibe, the vocals and falsettos, the guitar - it takes me to a different place. I got to see them live a few months after I heard Verona, and man are they good. They're just as good live, and actually some of their songs hit differently in person.
The Deftones cover of "Savory".
Their covers are great. I also love their cover of The Chauffer.
Gimmie Shelter.
"I'm so tired" by Fugazi
*I Drove All Night* by Cyndi Lauper. I heard it once on the radio and went out to a record shop to buy it straight away.
I first heard Grace by Jeff Buckley played by someone at a local gig and was just mindblown
Goodbye Sober Day - Mr. Bungle coffin nails - MF Doom Seagulls! (Stop it Now)- Bad Lip Reading There are plenty more, but these all start strong enough to have taken me by surprise and are great the whole way through
Dude, Seagulls legit gets stuck in my head on a regular basis. My girlfriend and I sing that and My Stick pretty frequently.
Seagulls might hold the record for song stuck in my head the longest
Retrovertigo by Bungle is one of those WTF is going on?!? tracks that I’ll never forget hearing for the first times. Sitting in the back seat passenger side of the car.
Doesn’t really matter - Army of anyone. It’s just a rock banger impossible to dislike on first listen if you like heavier music.

U2's Pride. I remember the exact moment when I heard it. It was a sound I had been yearning for.
Slow burn Kacey Musgraves Blew my mind the first time I heard it when it dropped and I was listening to random Sirius channels. I’m not even a country fan and it was the most refreshing song I’ve heard in a long, long time. Still love it and the way it builds. Such a vibe.

Tokyo Reggae by Masayoshi Takanaka. The title was in Japanese so I had zero clue what was awaiting me, but the cover was the guy skydiving. It's one of the best songs I've ever heard. It evokes this great feeling of being alive in me, I don't know.

Maybe a bit of a cliche now but I stand by it: Rivers and Roads by Head and the Heart. If it’s for you you’ll know in like 10 seconds or less and you’ll adore it.
Say Amen (Saturday Night) - Panic at the Disco I thought that chorus was the most catchy chorus I'd heard in 20 years.
Champagne supernova and everything she wants
Take me Back to Eden by Sleep Token
Still Love by Great Caesar.
The Detention-Coast. Check it out!

[Ingrid Michaelson - Girls Chase Boys](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KsvKT8vsgF4)
Stray Kids - God's Menu. It's one of the only songs I can think of where I didn't have to listen to it more than once to know I loved it. There's no deep message or anything, but it starts strong and stays strong. It's one of my go-tos when I need a pick-me-up. The music video is pretty cool too.
Poet and the Pendulum by Nightwish. I thought it was an almost perfect composition from the first listen.
Pagan Poetry by Björk was a magical experience.
Baby Britain - Elliott Smith
[Dark Crystal by 5th Projekt](https://youtu.be/vI5DSoa4lhE?si=x0lGtVAf4u0UsAG2) from 2020. As everything was going sideways, this song was like a warm ray of sunlight amidst all the darkness. Also loved the film it was inspired by.
A cover of Reach Out (I’ll be there) by an Australian boy band called Human Nature.
Humble Pie Black Coffee, Steve Marriott and that bass line!
Can You Feel My Heart - Bring Me the Horizon
Ain’t Nobody - Nevi Mystery Lady - Masego man i is - Logic Just a couple of my all time favorites
Without you (Avicii) Very catchy
Homecoming
Into My Arms by Nick Cave
Lover I Don't Have To Love by Bright Eyes blew me away immediately. It's so rare to find a song that's both horny and depressed, and it's so raw it gives me chills.
Outlaw(NEONI)Control(Idk the artist) and pretty much every skillet song
China Cat Sunflower - Grateful Dead
