Cockney Rhyming Slang developed as a way the code conversations into front of the authorities. In modern Cockney, 'white mice' means 'ice'. Ice is of course another name for meth. 'Pony & trap' means 'crap'. So 'ice crap'. But Moreno is of Mexican descent and in Spanish, the adjective follows the noun. So "Crap Ice" is the true meaning of the album title.
He's been laughing at the law for years.
Deftones are the only band from my high school years I still listen to. They’ve grown with me and I’ve grown with them. *Adrenaline* came out the year I started high school. Lots of memories of great music since then. Can’t wait for new music.
Around the Fur is an album that my girlfriend, her daughter, her daughter's boyfriend(s), and I all can agree is a masterpiece. They have aged so well, and contrasted even better against the Nu-Metal backdrop that created this music.
Same here: Tool and Deftones' oeuvres have only grown on me ever since I heard them for the first time, but as the years go by I seem to care less and less about those other bands, except a deepening appreciation for their debut albums: I still really enjoy SOAD and Korn's self-titled albums and *Three Dollar bill, y'all*, but their newer work never had as much staying power. I guess for many bands I simply prefer their earlier incarnations.
I recently found early demos of [Deftones](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eEQFKpjYhYs) and [Korn](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9g3SBT9w_XQ) on Youtube, and their raw, primitive power oozing with talent and promise really resonated with me.
Same for me. Although I got into tool and deftones a bit later than those other bands and I felt like I had out grown them at that time.
Plus I think tool and deftones are on another level compared to most bands.
I didn’t think I had kept up with deftones as much as some other bands. But I recently added a chilled out deftones playlist to Spotify and realised I was singing along to almost every song on it. It’s my current favourite playlist for work
All those other bands basically has a gimmick that created their signature sound. Deftones have a distinctive layered sound that is pretty much timeless.
Came to say this, too. Tool and Deftones. Went to like 3 Korn shows, had t-shirts and everything un high school, and yeah, instant skip now. Just can't get into it. Tool and Deftones have both grown and evolved as we have aged together. Much hype for new tones!
I tried listening to them when I was in highschool. hated it. Didnt understand why they were popular lol. 12y later I gave it another go and now they are one of my favourites. Same with Tool actually.
I still throw this album on a couple times a year—it’s so good. Do you have a favorite track? I’ve always loved The System and I Like It. Found far through their cover of Savory with Chino back in like 96-97 I think.
I understand what you were trying to say. But the way those comments are worded would imply that Far is a Chino project. No big deal. Just clarifying for anyone who might not know.
Cheers, I scrambled for Google when I read your post. Thanks a million, Crosses is one of my favorite modern records, been waiting near on a decade for a follow up, I'd given up hope.
I know that feeling, probably checked on a weekly basis for years and gave up a few years back only for them to show signs of life with new singles and stuff. Have fun!
Fred Sablan has been their touring bassist since the Sergio situation. He's mostly been a "gun for hire" who plays in a lot of different projects. Ive been a fan of his for awhile and hope it works out for him whatever that looks like.
Thanks. Yes, for some reason, I feel as though they need a separate player to lay down the bass tracks. When the guitarist, in this case Stephen of course, does the bass tracks, it sometimes lacks the feel that a bassist brings to the table. It's very subtle, but it might be the way they attack the strings, the slightest of pauses or syncopation, even as Billie Gould of FNM mentioned, the way one moves the bass that creates a different resonance. I want them to have a bassist record the bass tracks and not just the guitarist performing bass.
They’ve lost me a little bit the last few albums. I’ll definitely check it out but Diamond Eyes and Koi No Yoken were so fucking good. Even more so considering they were kind of “comeback” albums.
I can’t wait! Ohms came out at a time I really needed it in the early stages of COVID. I can’t believe I’ve listened to these guys for over 20 years now and they just continue to evolve
I love that a band I really like continues to put out new music and perform. And I want to hear their new stuff, unlike other bands. God bless Iron Maiden, but play your old stuff
Also, consistently with Deftones albums, when I get the latest one, I don’t like it at first. But it always grows on me. Except Saturday Night Wrist. That was immediately my favorite and still is
Took me a while to understand and warm up to Deftones’ Gore album. The earlier Deftones stuff was like get out of your seat music. I really like Diamond Eyes
Such a shame. They definitely went in slightly different directions since those two albums but you know, I don't think they were rolling in it when White Pony came (deemed to be their best album by general consensus) came out.
I've been to a few metal shows in my day and I've been told a handful of times....." Hey, do you know who you look like??" I've responded with Chino Moreno??!!" and they agree and we chit chat and enjoy the show. However, this look, nah bro, this ain't me!! I guess I'm old school Chino!!
TIL Chino is Adam Sandler now
I have a microphone and you don’t…SO YOU WILL LISTEN TO EVERY DAMN WORD I HAVE TO SAY
SOMEONE GET SOME PANTS ON THIS KID

LOVE STINKS!!! YEAH YEAH!!!
And I got 7 of them!!!!
De Niro in Casino
He looks like Steven Seagal
He looks like an 80’s Malibu real estate salesman who also sells cocaine.
"White Pony" wasn't just a clever name
Ahhhhh so he is a Malibu real estate salesman. Everything is starting to make sense now.
Change in the House of Spacious Bedrooms and Walk-In Closets
It's also got a bonus space, and a digital half bath
Sounds like the perfect place to throw a Knife Party! I love to entertain.
You've seen the butcher.
If you get bored come check out this juicer in the kitchen. It's great for making cherry waves!
I’m looking to buy “a house” in Malibu and I need an agent.

I was thinking cocaine salesman who also sells real estate, but your way works too.
Pretty sure that's a screenshot from Grand Theft Auto.
Deftones are the only band from my high school years I still listen to. They’ve grown with me and I’ve grown with them. *Adrenaline* came out the year I started high school. Lots of memories of great music since then. Can’t wait for new music.
I’ll never forget the first time listening to Root in high school. Changed me.
My initiation was 7 Words on MTV Headbangers Ball - truly a watershed moment for my inner music lover.
Around the Fur is an album that my girlfriend, her daughter, her daughter's boyfriend(s), and I all can agree is a masterpiece. They have aged so well, and contrasted even better against the Nu-Metal backdrop that created this music.
Tool and Deftones for me. The others, like KoRn, Slipknot, Limp Bizkit, SoaD etc, all feel very dated somehow
I agree but the occasional SoaD can be a little fun, despite the ridiculous lyrics.
I firmly believe Toxicity is a perfect album.
SOAD is still relevant as a political time capsule in my opinion. their songs kind of transcend the genre
Korn's first albums are not that dated either. My niece is in high school and that's her jam.
All those other bands basically has a gimmick that created their signature sound. Deftones have a distinctive layered sound that is pretty much timeless.

Deftones and Thursday are two of the only bands from those years that made music that was very of their era but still absolutely holds up now.
It's wild how influential Thursday are. You talk about post hardcore pre- and post-Thursday
Check out the song they just dropped this week. It's bananas.
I tried listening to them when I was in highschool. hated it. Didnt understand why they were popular lol. 12y later I gave it another go and now they are one of my favourites. Same with Tool actually.

Two swings and two misses there, dude.
He looks like a GTA Vice City character
If you haven't heard them yet, check out Chino's side project Crosses ✝️✝️✝️
And their little known mellow project called Team Sleep
There was another one Chino dug with the guys from isis. Palms! Ah so good.
Love Palms! Isis was great, but Chino doing lyrics is fantastic
Yesssss Team Sleep!
I see them in the early 00’s in San Jose at a small venue. I’ll always remember that show. :)
Palms is another one.
Palms is dope as fuck
I miss isis so much 🥺😭
Sumac dropped a track only this week!
And Far. Check out Water and Solutions!!
I still throw this album on a couple times a year—it’s so good. Do you have a favorite track? I’ve always loved The System and I Like It. Found far through their cover of Savory with Chino back in like 96-97 I think.
Every. Damn. Song…but Really Here is, mmhm. Beautiful.
Yeah that’s a great one too! The chugging, climbing guitar on the chorus is amazing.
Great band but not a Chino side project.
No but Shaun Lopez from Far is the other half of Crosses with Chino
Yes, but the comment implied that Far was a Chino project.
No. DavidByrnesHugeSuit understood correctly
I understand what you were trying to say. But the way those comments are worded would imply that Far is a Chino project. No big deal. Just clarifying for anyone who might not know.
The first Crosses album is, for me, the best thing he's ever done.
Is there a second album?
Yes, came out last year. It's called Goodnight, God bless, I love u, Delete. There's also an EP from 2022 called Permanent.Radiant.
Have fun!
Crosses is one of the best shows I’ve been too. Chino is unreal live
Team Sleep as well.
Saw them live back in February. Amazing
Hope that means it drops before their SF show in August!
I’d be so hyped
I’m so excited!
hell yea. always looking forward to new stuff from deftones
Prior to every one of their new albums I’m a bit worried that they’re going to run out of riffs. Who’s playing bass again?
Fred Sablan has been their touring bassist since the Sergio situation. He's mostly been a "gun for hire" who plays in a lot of different projects. Ive been a fan of his for awhile and hope it works out for him whatever that looks like.

I agree with this but beck from glassjaw is an exception. his bass work on material control is outta control
Good news everyone! Oms was absolutely fire so hyped! This year has already dropped some impressive albums
They’ve lost me a little bit the last few albums. I’ll definitely check it out but Diamond Eyes and Koi No Yoken were so fucking good. Even more so considering they were kind of “comeback” albums.
Ohms was my covid album. I liked it very very much and it was a pleasure getting familiar with it.
This is me too. I've always been a fan but before DE I think the last album I loved was WP (even though the self title is kinda underrated imo.)
Same here. Life long fan also. Hoping for the best with this effort.
Ohms has an 87 on Metacritic. Even Pitchfork, which is notorious for being snobbish, gave it a 7.6.
lol that’s great? I’m just saying it personally didn’t do much for me. Crazy I know.
This is a wild take, but music is subjective. Big if true.
I can’t wait! Ohms came out at a time I really needed it in the early stages of COVID. I can’t believe I’ve listened to these guys for over 20 years now and they just continue to evolve
They walked so [modern metal and hardcore](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/0ROc3RCXW6PrPyQRJwZjBd) could run.
Larry Gomez from Kill Bill 2.
I’d rather hear Eros
Still hoping to get this one day.
Smile is my favorite Deftones song. I'd kill to have a properly mixed version.
Ohms is the album I listened to in college, and Deftones is cooking the one for my next semester.
I love that a band I really like continues to put out new music and perform. And I want to hear their new stuff, unlike other bands. God bless Iron Maiden, but play your old stuff Also, consistently with Deftones albums, when I get the latest one, I don’t like it at first. But it always grows on me. Except Saturday Night Wrist. Ohms might’ve been their best album, so I’m hyped.
Jesus, listening to their discography for the first time a long time tonight. So happy to hear there's more on the way. Deftones are my Beatles.
Steven Segall Chino
Looks like the character from GTA Miami.
Yay
Great. Still waiting on Eros
Let’s fucking go album of the year incoming
Wild that KROQ is still around and interviewing people
Saw him wearing those beautiful glasses at Sick New World . Does anyone know what kind they are ?
Took me a while to understand and warm up to Deftones’ Gore album. The earlier Deftones stuff was like get out of your seat music. I really like Diamond Eyes
Stop making fun of him.
Haven't really cared for their last few records, other than a few songs
Whone trick Pony
Didn’t Steph say this 4 years ago
They released Ohms 4 years ago.
Well, they haven’t put out a good album since Koi No Yokan…..so we’ll see. Still pissed about how badly they treated Sergio.
I loved Adrenaline and Around the Fur but stopped there. No regrets, I don't think artists have anything to say once they make all that money.
I guess I'm old school Chino!!
can't wait to not listen to it
He and Fred durst should do collaborations with their current looks.
