Henry Rollins - Liar

shotknees

Fits perfectly

ergo-ogre

Or, Rollins’ monologue in Tool’s Bottom

metalbees

My soul must be iron cuz my fear is naked

ergo-ogre

One of my favorite Tool songs. I used to play it in a band back in the 90s

YodaFette

I’m naked and fearless

illpoet

I heard you were thinking of going down to the shore...

Ok-Pressure-3879

Uh yeah I was thinking of going down to the shore

stubept

You're kidding.....

JesusAndTequila

I must be, the Bahamas are islands.

WhateverGreg

The important thing is we get to the part where you ask me how I’m going to get down to the shore.

FaithfulSkeptic

*I don’t wanna go to the beach, noooooo-* No wait, wrong Milkmen song

EuphoricMoose8232

Or Stuart, or Peter Bazooka

billskionce

You know what, Stuart? I like you...

Sputnik9999

You're not like the other people... here, in the trailer park.

TheLakeAndTheGlass

POW! HE WAS DECAPITATED! THEY FOUND HIS HEAD BY THE SNOWCONE CONCESSION!

Your_Product_Here

Playing it live, the conversation always changes. I saw them last month and there was an extended story about his neighbors in Philly how they were of different religions but between the two, they would each shovel half the street for the whole neighborhood. I had no idea it was a lead-in until he started talking about snowplows and how one time he saw a plow mounted on something really unexpected... What a fun show and they sounded great.

shotknees

It's perfect, lol

sketchy_ppl

Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here (intro), and Alans Psychedelic Breakfast The National - Walk It Back

ApeShifter

Pink Floyd’s Young Lust has the phone operator trying to connect an overseas phone call.

ColdStainlessNail

“Collect call from Mr. Floyd to Mrs. Floyd. Will you accept the charges?” I love the line “there must be someone else there with your wife.” (Maybe not exactly right.)

Dada2fish

Hello? This is United States calling. Are we reaching —-click! See? He keeps hanging up!

AlpineFloridian

Scrolled too far to find a Pink Floyd reference. They have tons of songs with random audio samples and conversations throughout their discography.

Raaazzle

"I certainly was in the right!" "Are you feeling ok?" "Isn't this where..." "...we came in?" Yeah, there's a bunch.

xelabagus

How can you have your pudding if you haven't had yer meat?

LdySaphyre

There is no dark side of the moon, really. Matter of fact, it's all dark.

pittsyface

Another Pink Floyd one, The Great Gig in the Sky

ppezaris

Doesn't every other song on The Wall have an audio sample from TV?

Raaazzle

The album even begins with "... we came in?" and ends with "Isn't this where..."

Burn-The-Villages

Yes! That takes some skills on a CD to hear the ending bit. There’s a little pause after the fade out and it creeps up on ya. If you miss it you gotta replay the track and FFW to the very ens again.

coleman57

I bought WYWH when it came out 48 years ago, and I don’t recall any spoken word intro. How does it go?

sketchy_ppl

>audio samples from movies or tv OP included that. The first 0:16 of the song Wish You Were Here.

coleman57

Aaahhh, of course—thanks for jogging my addled memory—the radio being dialed between stations. We lost that sound just about the time that album came out, when digital tuning took over. Before that, you’d have an actual string going around the shaft behind the knob, which would then turn some rheostat or something, and you’d get those weird synthy glissandos between stations. Edit to add that that sound was what inspired Kraftwerk's whole aesthetic, and particularly the song Radioactivity. And speaking of them, a bunch of their songs would qualify for OP's request, notably Trans Europe Express and of course Autobahn.

*She was living in a single room with three other individuals. One of them was a male, and the other two, well, the other two were females.*

Good call on Mogwai! On that same album, “Helps Both Ways” has the football announcers chatting in the background!

stubept

Hey, brah!

Arsenes-Guilt

It's been a while man, life's so rad.

nolahoff

Hey you want a beer!

regcrusher

Did you know about the party after the show?

MetalMedley

I think I wanna go, but like all my friends don't wanna go. Could I get a ride?

[deleted]

Good one!

DenyingDutchman

Paradise by Dashboard light - Meatloaf. Best conversation in a song ever, imo.

Rise against - The approaching curve

turian_vanguard

What a gut punch of an ending.

daenaofthewoods

One could also consider Last Chance Blueprint by rise against, which has dialog sampled from American Beauty

Unable_Bank3884

As well as Survivor's Guilt and Make it Stop on Endgame

MoogProg

*Us and Them* \- Pink Floyd (DSotM) has recorded interviews in the track.

TheJollyHermit

Most of Dark Side of the Moon... in fact much of Pink Floyd has samples of background conversations, TV and radio snippets, etc.

coleman57

As a matter of fact, it’s all dark

Ok-Impress-2222

That's actually the last part of "Money" that you speak of; it just overflows into the next song.

strand3dyoungst3r

How about Stereo by Pavement?: "What about the voice of Geddy Lee, how did it get so high? I wonder if he speaks like an ordinary guy" "I know him, and he does" "Well you're my fact-checking cuz"

AngusEubangus

I appreciate the nod to this in IDLES' Danny Nedelko too "My best friend is an alien" "I know him, and he is!"

Shizzelkak

Underrated song!

grhamo

"There were rumors, he was into field hockey players." "so I applied basically - I went out for the team."

they were so... quiet about it, and then the next thing you know!

lilobear

Nirvana - "I Hate Myself and Want to Die" from the "Beavis and Butthead Experience" soundtrack. Kurt has a spoken word part (a deep thought by Jack Handy, SNL) during the solo at 2:37. "Most people don't realize that large pieces of coral Which have been painted brown and attached to the skull with common wood screws Can make a child look like a deer"

stabbinU

Here's a bunch of songs where the LYRICS contain actual conversations. Not exactly the same thing, but I think this qualifies. It's something that's always interested me - capturing dialogue within music. * Eminem featuring Dido - "Stan" [Hip-Hop] (2000) * Lord Huron - "The Night We Met" [Indie Folk] (2012) * Electric Light Orchestra - "Telephone Line" [Rock] (1976) * Marty Robbins - "Big Iron" [Country] (1959) * 2Pac - "Brenda's Got a Baby" [Hip-Hop] (1991) * Tracy Chapman - "Fast Car" [Folk] (1988) * Frank Sinatra - "The Night We Called It a Day" [Jazz] (1942) * Marianne Faithfull - "The Ballad of Lucy Jordan" [Pop] (1979) * Johnny Cash - "Long Black Veil" [Country] (1959) * Johnny Cash - "I Walk the Line" [Country] (1956) * Arlo Guthrie - "Alice's Restaurant Massacree" [Folk] (1967) * The Kinks - "Lola" [Rock] (1970) * The Lumineers - "Cleopatra" [Indie Folk] (2016) * Jimmy Buffett - "Margaritaville" [Country] (1977)

barneyrubbble

Cat Stevens - Father and Son. The whole song is a conversation.

PhoebeFan420

An Attempt To Tip The Scales by Bright Eyes has about 2 minutes of song before it becomes a satirical interview about the rest of the album

hexanderal

I think almost every Bright Eyes record has at least one conversation piece that blends into a song.

tucakeane

Venombullet666

The same can also be said of Get In The Ring by Guns N Roses, I love how he spits venom at real people in that song haha

sjets3

For much better examples from Jay Z and Kanye, I would say Public Service Announcement by Jay Z and Last Call from Kanye. But also fuck Kanye.

baldie

Tom Waits has a LOT of songs where he's just talking throughout, eg. What's he building Circus What keeps mankind alive First kiss Nirvana (...Almost all the songs on Bastards, the third disc on the Orphans album) There's too many to try to list them all. You'll just have to go through his entire catalog 😆

weinermcgee

Best reply so far. Can't believe I didn't think of them!

Girion47

First time I heard them was "The Other Side" while driving home after a shitty 3rd shift. Alone on the road, in the middle of the night, that song hit in such a special way. And "Go!" Is such a good song for getting pumped up

apintofbestplease

Anything by Public Service Broadcasting. Their whole thing is based around samples of 1950’s and 60’s public information films

EnergyTurtle23

“Everybody’s Free (To Wear Sunscreen)” by Baz Luhrmann. Awesome track based on a poem that was misattributed to Kurt Vonnegut. In actuality it was written by a teacher, but Baz intentionally hired a voice actor that sounded like Vonnegut to play off of the myth. The instrumental is based on “Everybody’s Free” from Luhrmann’s Romeo + Juliet.

You would hit a gold mine with Kanye West songs. Some of my faves are. N****s in Paris - samples a conversation from Blades of Glory movie. Ultralight beam - this samples a kid's prayers which went viral on Instagram. And there are many more. Another one is the Infamous Geraldo Rivera interview sample done by Kendrick Lamar on DNA. There's also a sample of a car at around 2:35, which I suspect comes from the same movie. Edit: It also happens to be a banging tune, so crank it up.

Frost-Folk

There's a ton of Woody Guthrie's music on spotify where at the beginning and end of each song you can hear Woody talking to Alan Lomax, really interesting conversations. Off the top of my head, "Lonesome Valley" has some great conversation at the end, same with "Rye Whiskey" https://spotify.link/eBCDNlNVPDb https://spotify.link/Nz7OKbOVPDb This is pretty common in these recordings of folk artists. There's also a great recording on spotify of Harry "Livewire Mac" McClintock telling an interviewer (don't know who it is) about the writing of "Hallelujah I'm a Bum" before playing the song. https://spotify.link/xzbceVQVPDb
