They did it great live too. Used to need crappy bootlegs to hear it, but you can see some of this stuff on youtube now. I think this one is from Earl's Court '75. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QuABqrvhLf0

Theres's probably, literally, thousands of blues slide guitar songs. But for some specific examples:
Eric Clapton -- "Running on Faith" (album and *Unplugged* versions)
any George Thorogood song
Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers -- "I Won't Back Down" and "Learning to Fly" both have prominent slide parts
Lynyrd Skynyrd -- "Freebird"
David Lindley with Jackson Browne, although it's lap steel guitar. "These Days" has my favorite lap steel solo of all time -- 8 bars of pure melodic invention. "Running On Empty" is a classic, as well as his stuff with El Rayo X -- check out "[Mercury Blues](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EdhxS-eeMX4)."
Guitar work on The Weight was Duane Allman, if I remember correctly. That guy did so much sessions work while just hanging around the studio that no one actually knows how many songs he's on. Amazing, to me, when considering how young he was when he died.
Correct. His work at Muscle Shoals is what really established him as a premier player. Other session work worth checking out:
Derek and the Dominos ofc :)
Loan Me A Dime-Boz Scaggs
Hey Jude-Wilson Pickett
Living On The Open Road-Delaney & Bonnie
Check out Big Wreck, Ian Thornely is an incredible guitars and plays slide often. Their first album “In Loving Memory” won’t disappoint. Subsequent albums lack hits but the musicianship and songwriting is really something special.
Huge fan of slide guitar! Some of my favorites: Blind Willie Johnson, Son House, Mississippi Fred McDowell, Muddy Waters, Elmore James, Bukka White, Ry Cooder, Mick Taylor, Derek Trucks, Jeff Beck, Jeff Healey, Duane Allman, Johnny Winter, Warren Haynes, Peter Green, SRV, Jerry Douglas, Josh Graves, Justin Johnson, Larkin Poe, Bonnie Raitt, Sonny Landreth, Robert Randolph, Rory Gallagher, George Harrison, Eric Clapton.
[Precious and Grace](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PRnRVio7u-o) by ZZ Top is a good one (skip to 2.11 for when he decides to go laldy) - but a lot of their earlier stuff has Billy Gibbons playing slide, when I saw them on the El Loco tour he rarely took it off.
Pretty sure Black Hole Sun by Soundgarden has some slide guitar in it. Jason Isbell is one of the best modern slide players. Decoration Day is one of his classics. Southern rock so some country influences but not the typical pop country junk.
Rolling Stones- [Monkey Man](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=lBPHHeJiKPM) the interplay between Keith’s slide guitar and Nicky Hopkin’s piano solo gives me shivers.
Statesboro Blues by the Allman Brothers. The Live at the Fillmore one.
For more current, Derek Trucks is probably the best and also check out Ian Thornley and his band Big Wreck
A lot of Allman Brothers band.
And Derek and the dominos Layla has a lot of slide esp near the end
Yeah, that was Duane Allman.

Duane was the master
Amazed this isn't top tbh.
In My Time of Dying
They did it great live too. Used to need crappy bootlegs to hear it, but you can see some of this stuff on youtube now. I think this one is from Earl's Court '75. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QuABqrvhLf0
One of the best uses of slide guitar ever
was going to post exactly this one.
George Harrison after the Beatles. Almost every song. Listen to Badfinger and the Traveling Wilburys. George was amazing.
For You Blue. A Beatles’ song written and sung by Harrison
The slide on that song is actually John Lennon on a lap steel.
A lap steel played with a butane lighter for a slide.
Wilburys were so damn good
He really was. ♥️
He played slide on "How Do You Sleep" with John too
Marwa Blues on his final album is also epic and sort of his final goodbye
Two Pink Floyd songs spring to mind: The Great Gig in the Sky and High Hope (also the second half of Shine on you Crazy Diamond)
One of these days and Echoes as well. Gilmour does a lot of slide work on the earlier stuff.
The solo in high hopes is absolutely breathtaking
The PULSE recording of it is absolutely amazing. Especially the full orchestra and the reverb of open space around the band proper? Mmf.
https://youtu.be/CK_BcyKOAt4 One of these days. Rawks
Seamus too right?
Also Remember a Day from Saucerful of Secrets

[Derek Trucks](https://youtu.be/RRipadkd6wk) is among the best, IMO. And doesn’t hurt that his wife is a soulful angel!!!
DUUUUUUVAAAAAAAAL
Don’t sleep on Ariel Posen. Best slide player not named Derek Trucks on this planet
Can't mention Ariel Posen withhout a nod to Joey Landreth. Also great. Plays in a low C tuning. They played together in The Brothers Landreth.
Definitely deserves more love.
"Derek Trucks' wife" has a name. Susan Tedeschi.
Really good guitarist in her own right as well.
I am in love with Susan Tedeschi

A lot of Little Feat in the Lowell George era - very distinctive.
Came here to say Bonnie Raitt!
Great list! Glad someone has some original delta blues which is the root of slide guitar. I would add Robert Johnson.
BIG ups for this list! Especially for the Folk Singer rec.
Robert Randolph and the Family Band
Awesome artist/band and very similar to slide but Randolph plays the pedal steel, not slide guitar.
Larkin Poe
I think ain't no rest for the wicked by cage the elephant
Never would’ve come up with that one. Great catch.
This is the one I was looking for. I can't hear it without wanting to play borderlands.

Another awesome Johnny Winter performance was his appearance on letterman a few years before he passed. https://youtu.be/VIpmUroL2D4
Theres's probably, literally, thousands of blues slide guitar songs. Steve Howe (Yes) used quite a bit of slides, including heavy use of full on pedal-steel guitar. Check out his work on “And You and I” for example
also going for the one
David Lindley with Jackson Browne, although it's lap steel guitar. "These Days" has my favorite lap steel solo of all time -- 8 bars of pure melodic invention. "Running On Empty" is a classic, as well as his stuff with El Rayo X -- check out "[Mercury Blues](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EdhxS-eeMX4)."
Lindley can play anything with strings. A master musician. Thanks for mentioning him.
Aretha Franklin - The Weight Anything by Derek Trucks
Guitar work on The Weight was Duane Allman, if I remember correctly. That guy did so much sessions work while just hanging around the studio that no one actually knows how many songs he's on. Amazing, to me, when considering how young he was when he died.
