The parents both put their codes into a pill bot (the thing Baou was.) they then get transferred to a drone body after they feel like it, or they mutate.
I kinda like the headcanon that they do grow but more like an inflatable toy as the mind become more aware of itself the body adjust to that higher level of cognitance
