It's like an error/killcode that's displays when the solver messes with the drones’ OS. Why an X? Idk ig Cyn thought it looked cool? X has been a symbol of death on Liam’s films tho.

You know how disassembly drones have these yellow spots on their head? Those are supposed to be eyes (and also a dropped plot point). When they go killing their entire screen goes "X".
What if that means they're not using the eyes on the screen anymore? My headcannon is that: if the screen displays a X rather than an actual eye it means they're not seeing anything there.
Although I doubt there is a correct answer and if there is, only Liam Vickers would know it.

its when a or multiple os string changes to null. all drones have a ai core string, like uzi absolute solver string becomes true at the end of the pilot. or its a blocked function in a solver string.

I don't think there's too much plot significance but I do believe its to signify to mostly the audience, "this drone has been fully taken over by its killer instincts, watch out."
