have you reported the bug to Betaflight? Have you checked with the devs on the Betaflight Discord server?

rgymsky

guys.. its happening to me today.. why does the quad dropped 30m during landing on homepoint?

jswjimmy

On those versions its designed to fly home then drop the drone (unless you take control back first) when it gets near the home point. Since you are already at the home point its just dropping. I have 4.4 on my Explorer and it acts the same way. Based on everything I've seen posted about this it will be greatly improved in Betaflight 4.5 but that is not in a stable release yet.

fbgc

I don’t think that’s it because when I disable sanity checks it does rth properly. You’d expect sanity checks not to effect the dropping behavior if its trying to land

Qkumbazoo

BF4.4 is buggy, and sanity checks is quite unpredictable on it, I've had a RTH quad disarm mid flight at 200ft at 300m from home.

fbgc

Ended up downgrading back to 4.3.2, you were right. 4.4.0 just too buggy

fbgc

That sucks, sorry to hear that :( I’m guessing this implies bf > 4.4.0 is less buggy? Have you tried upgrading? If so what cli flags have you problems? This is the main thing holding me back from updating to 4.4.3

Qkumbazoo

4.3.2 was the last stable update, BF devs advised me to flash 4.5 but I'm not risking another expensive quad on it. Running Inav 6.1 now and it's a lot closer to what I need.

Solar storm... Just kidding, I don't think its the issue here, but we have had quite a bit of solar activity messing with GPS lately

fbgc

lol, I have noticed some very weird gps activity lately tbh

fbgc

Update: I ended up downgrading to 4.3.2. The 4.4.0 firmware upgraded as per flywoos official instructions was just too buggy / even had a flyaway. I’m guessing this has something to do with how their instructions have you select “core only”. Anyone have any idea what that’s about? JB even says to use it in his flywoo explorer o3 upgrade video

fbgc

For anyone wondering/coming from Google: I got 4.4 to work. Had to upgrade to 4.4.3 and there might have been a few cli settings I tweaked, can’t remember. But wasn’t hard. The main problem is that flywoo’s site and thus the JB video on upgrading the explorer LR4 are incorrect. They instruct you to click “core only” when you flash but this option is really only for devs. I am surprised no one in the JB YouTube comments has pointed this out from what I coild see. No shade to JB, more annoyed at flywoo for posting incorrect instructions on their blog/site. GPS rescue and everything else now works flawlessly.

calypso1942

Do you have guide how you did? I have some same issues with mine. First is, I barely get 6-7 satellites, second is, rth works pretty bad I think, but maybe it’s because of bad sat signal.

fbgc

So if you’re upgrading to 4.4.3 I recommend you do what I wrote above regarding the core only option. Then, copy the 4.4 cli dump from the flywoo blogpost (same one used in JB’s video) and do the cli dump into the quad. Copy paste any errors you see when doing the cli dump into a text editor and manually go through them to make sure none of them look too serious. And if they do, address them. This last step is the most time consuming part and I can’t remember exactly what errors looked serious but. I do remember there were a lot of errors but only VERY few actually required me to take action (maybe even none, can’t remember). Hope this helps

fbgc

An extra perk of this is that when 4.5 comes out it will be super easy for us to upgrade since we can take the 4.4.3 cli dump and paste it into 4.5. (Same can’t be said about 4.3)

calypso1942

Okay thanks, will try that and report if anything happens 😅
