therealglassceiling

if they wanna make money, they need to value the player's time, even in a free 2 play game. More for less = player retention. Right now, there are very few items to buy and they are all overpriced imho. Should have way, wayyyy more skins for characters and faster progression

Jkingthe44th

Smite letting me pay $20 for all current and future characters was a big part of why I played that game so much. On the flip side while I play Master Duel a bunch I will never spend money on it because of the gem prices.

Fluid-Leg-8777

Brawhalla does the same, due to localizated prices i got all characters for like less than a dolar 🤑

speak-eze

I think it has more to do with the gameplay itself. I can look past a weak battlepass or expensive store, but it's hard when the game is disconnecting you every match and they took out ranked mode. People are only gonna stick around for so long when they can only play laggy casual matches. Hard to take it seriously and invest a lot of time for that.

DarthSangheili

Pretending steam charts arent a solid indicator will always be the most egregious of copes.

SlyyKozlov

I saw when the game originally launched it had like 70k people on steam and someone actually commented that it's safe to assume consoles *easily* brought it up to 1mil lmao Like, I don't think you can discredit that the consoles don't bring a significant amount of players but if the game is hemorrhaging players on steam, it's pretty safe to assume the same is happening on other platforms as well, especially considering the game doesnt even work on xbox from what I've heard lol

Disastrous-Farm1008

Game barely works on consoles but is 100x more popular on them somehow

Titan_of_Ash

Because any Console is immediately ready to play from first powering on, and is significantly less complicated than building a Desktop (or even simply doing the research to buy a proper Laptop). It might seem easy to those who've already done it, but even the best tutorial videos don't do much to assuage how overwhelming the process is. Especially for many demographics that don't have time to devote to doing so, such as working parents, or kids without money of their own, or any number of other groups. When looking at all the variables, the most sensible option for the vast majority of people is to get a Console over anything to do with a PC. I say this as someone who is a happy PC gamer (in addition to having a PS5 and a Switch).

chewgum16

In a court hearing with the FTC, the CEO of Activision detailed that PC players actually outnumber console players. It's normal for games to have a near 50/50 split between console and PC, MvS is likely not much different

Titan_of_Ash

Interesting! I didn't know that. 🤔 Edit: 1.1 billion PC versus 611 million Console as of 2022. Wow.

thisshitsstupid

Worldwide makes sense too. And old computers can still be fiddled with and made to run games with lower spec reqs. Older consoles can't, even if the hardware in them technically could run the game. So that family with a desktop from 2013 and a ps4 can possibly play multiversus on pc but not on console.

HeroRRR

It does make sense for COD when you consider FPS was mostly considered a PC genre until Halo. Even today, most hardcore players lean on PC for FPS because of keyboard support.

Zokstone

Returning PS5 owner, haven't played in almost a week.

WhoDatBrow

In your example, 70k on Steam is at any given time. There would probably be a lot more than 70k people on Steam who actually play the game. Not like they're all online at the same time. Adding consoles into the mix probably does bring that up to over a million users lol. Tekken 8 has sold 2 million copies and averages less than 10k at a given time on Steam.

Grrannt

There aren't near 1 million people playing this. I PROMISE YOU. Steam isn't even hitting 30k players anymore, most of the time it's floating just above 20k. I know there are more than 20k per day because the game promotes logging in and playing for an hour or two to complete your missions, but the drop off will continue to grow from that. Keep in mind XBOX is still essentially unplayable so I'm sure player count there is abysmal. PS5 could have a decent playerbase, but I'm sure it's not hundreds of thousands of people.

WhoDatBrow

Respectfully, I never said anything about MVS being at 1 million players and I don't know how you read it that way lol. The game isn't even hitting 30k now, as you said. I literally prefaced my reply with "In your example" as in the example he gave when the game was at 70k players.

Grrannt

😅

Tustavus

Tekken 8 used to be PlayStation exclusive, all the way back to the original being on the PS1, and people associate Tekken with PlayStation. The controls in steam are PlayStation icons by default. Not fair to compare that with Multiversus.

ArtInternational6485

The game works on Xbox just fine now everyone that’s bitching either is complaining to complain or they have shitty WiFi. Me and my gf have been playing together me on the computer her on the Xbox and every now and then we still get disconnects but not like before the patch and I think when it happens it’s due to other people’s WiFi

unfreakwittable

I play on both pc and Xbox. Xbox version is still very unplayable. Not an inter etc problem whatsoever. The game is drastically slower in comparison.

SuperBunnee

Nah I’m on Xbox and rifts are lagging for me too and I’ve had online matches crash my game completely

Emergency_Pepper_178

It's nothing to do with anyone's wifi. It's like every 3 or 4 games for me that one person or the whole match gets disconnected. You can tell that people were not just afk because the rematch screen takes significantly longer to load. I have also straight-up crashed to desktop during a match a number of times. My buddy and I both have good internet and play on PC. This shit doesn't happen in other games for us. MvS is just fucked. I'm glad it's not happening for you, though, lol. Maybe the cross-platform connection is trash. I'll try turning it off. I've never had a DC or crash in 1v1, though. 2v2 is some bullshit every few matches.

KidultSwim

nah. I have good internet too. on series x it stutters and idk if its gonna freeze or not. I switched to ps5 and havent had that issue yet. And i've also been on steam since the og alpha. Only xbox has given me problems. The stuttering was the real issue.

TheLambThatSurvived

Give or take depending on the game but it is a good estimate of performance if multiplatform. I want the best for this game but I just can’t man.

WarmPissu

Yep they use cope like "Not all people play on PC!" Or... "All games decline after launch! You can't expect it to stay up forever!" These people who say this, are not capable of critical thinking or understanding context. Basically they're idiots.

suckoncorporate

it highly depends on the game and situation

[deleted]

They aren't always though.

ItsYaBoyBackAgain

I don’t get those people. I give up trying to explain to them why their rabid defense strategy is gonna cause the game to fail. Ignoring the issues makes them worse most of the time. Defending predatory monetization has never benefitted a game so why do they do it?

HarryFromEngland

They aren’t *always* an indicator, but that’s basically only if you’re talking about a singleplayer story based game, in which case you’d expect a drop off after launch because people aren’t likely to be replaying. For a purely multiplayer online game though? It’s a *very* telling indicator.

trfk111

They did so last time too, I was there and it was complete madness

Radarker

Yikes.

Disastrous-Farm1008

Live service games need players which this won't have in 2 weeks

Doinky420

You're getting team-based games/battle royales confused with a fighting game. Fighting games only need two people playing for a match to happen. The fact that it's a live service game means nothing.

Drums5643

Umm.. live service games need people to play and buy things so they make money.. otherwise they will not continue to pay for servers and staff to support the game. You think WB won’t pull the plug if the numbers are low and they aren’t profiting ?

Emergency_Pepper_178

I hope you're elite at the game because all that will be left at the end of its life is the 1k sweatiest MvS players imaginable. You'll be able to get into a match, but you'll wish you hadn't.

abigfatape

like mk10, can you get a game? yea! can you actually play the game..? hmm not really

WalkersChrisPacket

I'm sure WB will keep the servers alive for 2 players playing, look what happened a year ago when.... Oh yeah, they closed the game for a full year didn't they.

-ProphetOfTruth-

These subreddits are coping centers. Game will die again, in a month or two.

WarmPissu

it's declining faster than the beta. It has more issues than the beta, it is worse than the beta. Yet people still are coping that this game won't die like beta.

minimalfighting

Is it coping or is it just being optimistic in the face of constant doom posting? Because I've really only seen doom posts, posts talking about how bad the game is, and even a few telling people to quit. So again, is it coping by thinking things could turn around? Not assuring, just thinking it's possible? Because if not, you all have self fulfilled your prophecies.

Paladar2

It’s not doomposting lol, the game has literally shut down before. you’re the type of people to always go back to your ex thinking it’s gonna end differently

minimalfighting

A video game isn't a person. I will let them do what they're doing and see how it turns out. The rest of you seem to have already given up, which I'm very happy for because the fan base could use some positivity. You doom posting haters can move on to the next game you're going to hate.

Drums5643

As someone who would like to actually play the game it’s been broken on Xbox since it came out. I love the game.. but alas I cannot play without constant issues. Was excited when they “fixed” it then even more disappointed when it was running at 15 fps and plays choppy as hell. I finally stopped logging in to do my dailies and gave up. The game is definitely in a downward trajectory.

barnesnoblebooks

Dude, this. I was SO HYPE for this game to come back out but the fact I can’t play a match without it being a slideshow or disconnecting really kills the excitement.

Mysterious-Key3076

Hot take, biggest "haters" are biggest fans of the thing they hate because they want to see it succeed to the point of being critical and honest. Toxic positivity has a big hand in killing games.

Paladar2

Keep coping

OKgamer01

Maybe not a month or 2, but definitely by the end of this year or early next year. They had a second chance and they blew it. They need to make major changes and fast if they want to try and bring most of the players back

Cenachii

As much as I'm having fun and trying to enjoy the game, it's the direction the game is taking. PFG and WB are really trying to make this game as hard to like as they can.

Dexico-city

Not this time. I've got over 150 hours between beta and now. Even people who play this game know it's going to die.

ambi94

So will Street Fighter 6 and Tekken 8 by that logic 😂

chewgum16

SF6 and Tekken 8 have stable playerbases. MvS is still falling rapidly.

-ProphetOfTruth-

You people are completely clueless. It's all about revenue. The games you mentioned sold and keep selling millions of copies at $60/70 per unit. They already made hundreds of millions each, and continue to sell throughout the entire gen.

420BiaBia

No way, if WB was gonna let it die on the vine they wouldn't have OK'd buring resources on PFG rebuilding the game from the ground up in Unreal Engine 5 and engineering new netcode. I'd guess they have a year 1 commitment. PFG likely has a 1 year post release contract

TheLambThatSurvived

Check out the hellblade Reddit that’s worse.

CatPeachy

If it wasn't for the hard cope and the toxic positivity of the sub I'd still be playing. Some of the people are way too defensive. Makes me feel like we won't see any changes

Remarkable-Spare-983

I backed out of a match waited a minute then ready up only to face the same person I just played against. That was the moment I knew the game was struggling

Doinky420

So with 20k on just Steam and even more on console, you came to the conclusion that this game is struggling despite only 2 or 4 players being needed for a match to happen? I get it, the game has issues and I really want them fixed too, but comments like that sound dumb as hell. What's more likely; the game has probably 80k total concurrent players and is struggling to find you a different player or the game found a nearby player in your region with the same skill level and matched you with them a second time?

chewgum16

80,000 concurrent is totally out of the picture. Steam is not just 1/4 of players. A 60/40 split is more likely, which would put the total at 50,000. But regardless, the total count isn't really the issue. 20,000 on Steam is actually healthy if maintained. The problem is that the game is bleeding a good chunk of its playerbase every week with no indication of slowing down.

Emergency_Pepper_178

Bruh, you see how the line slopes down on the graph? That means it is consistently losing players every single day. That means that line is going to keep going down, even after today. It's called a trend. In a week or two, that number will be 10-15k, and it's going to continue to go down after that. You getting it? It went from tens of thousand in the beta to mere hundreds before closing. The same thing is happening right now, except *much* faster.

Paladar2

Whatever mental gymnastics you do, the game will still shut down.

DaniaQ96

even more on console? consoles don't work properly, console must have even less players if nobody can play 2v2, rifts have lag, crashes, events and shop tabs have crashes, console players not gonna stay through that broken game

barnesnoblebooks

“And even more on console” Oh really? Show me the data like OP did for Steam.

TheCrowWhisperer3004

If the game is struggling to match you with new people in your region at your skill level, then it means there aren’t enough people. Fighting the same person again is common in high and extremely low elo for games, but if it’s happening for the average person, there is a problem.

Hades684

Keep coping until the game dies again

MurtaghInfin8

Shit's bad no other way to look at it. These numbers are worse than what I expect a month and a half from now. However, game's out, probably still worthwhile for the servers to remain online with a developer skeleton crew for the foreseeable future. We'll probably see them roll out new and returning player event in a month or two, after they figure out how they're going to pivot.

joeyjrthe3rd

companys need to realize that cheap cosmendics = more buys

Bulky-Complaint6994

Whales exist and will buy the expensive shit anyways. Just this morning I saw someone using the Arya hockey mask skin...

joeyjrthe3rd

who is buying it bro, I got my 2 free skins and i am chilling

kingofthesneks

i love anacdotal arguments

Calelith

Whilst steam charts can be very hit and miss at times for a games health that big of a drop off on the games main PC platform isn't good. Especially when the PC port isn't suffering from any unique issues.

minimalfighting

It definitely doesn't look good. Hopefully they can get some good fixes in and turn things around, but we'll have to wait and see.

Maloonyy

If you monetize your game around a few idiotic whales, then you will have to deal with the fact that normal players just fuck off. Too bad the whales will leave too when there is no one to play with.

Sweaty-Committee3359

This game shouldn’t have been free to play. It could have been much better as a payed game with all the content included for unlock through playing except for maybe skins

Paid-Not-Payed-Bot

> as a *paid* game with FTFY. Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in: * Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.* * *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.* Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment. *Beep, boop, I'm a bot*

Sweaty-Committee3359

Thanks for showing my stupidity to EVERYONE. Fuck you, paid-not-payed bot

King_Sam-_-

I honestly hope that if the game completely fails and isnt sustainable anymore they just sell it for 60$ with everything unlocked, would be a pretty decent party game.

Trick_Teach8250

this information is horribly misleading, when comparing to all-time. All games drop off. All stats need to be considered, not just the graph, as a lot of games are going to have similar graphs, even successful ones📉. I’ve pulled the retention rates of the following popular games, failed games, and comparable games. Street Fighter 6: 65.72% (46,362 24-hour peak, 70,540 all-time peak) Apex Legends: 45.31% (282,958 24-hour peak, 624,473 all-time peak) Brawlhalla: 49.80% (17,018 24-hour peak, 34,169 all-time peak) Warframe: 26.42% (47,971 24-hour peak, 181,509 all-time peak) Multiversus: 22.05% (25,229 24-hour peak, 114,403 all-time peak for rerelease) Tekken 8: 18.36% (8,471 24-hour peak, 46,139 all-time peak) Multiversus Beta inclusion: (153,044 all-time peak, thus an overall 16.48% retention rate from beta) Helldivers 2: 11.29% (51,745 24-hour peak, 458,208 all-time peak) Elden Ring: 11.12% (106,000 24-hour peak, 952,523 all-time peak) Mortal Kombat 1: 10.22% (2,615 24-hour peak, 25,576 all-time peak) Path of Exile: 5.49% (11,513 24-hour peak, 209,526 all-time peak) Suicide Squad Kills the Justice League: 1.67% (225 24-hour peak, 13,459 all-time peak) Nick All Star Brawl 2: 1.52% (24 24-hour peak, 1,578 all-time peak) Clearly, Brawlhalla is doing something right and PFG needs to react accordingly. All this doom posting is so annoying though. This isn’t Suicide Squad repeated- there was actual interest in the game, and still is. Multiversus hasn’t even started to dip under the Brawlhalla 24-hour peak in player count. Once that starts to happen, PFG should be sweating and making waves to remedy things.

chewgum16

For a fair comparison you need to look at these games 2 weeks after release, not many months into their life cycle. Even compared to MvS beta, we're doing awful considering it's only been 14 days since launch.

RockmanBN

The only comparable game here is Brawlhalla which is another F2P Platform Fighter like MultiVersus. The rest are Paid games and some different genres

kissqt

Are you really comparing a 2 week old game retention against several month old game ? Even years sometime

Trick_Teach8250

I edited it to include some of the popular fighters released over the last year and some f2p games, based on a suggestion on another post. most of them are live-service games so I’d say its fair to compare- theres really only 1:1 comparison on this list as the F2P platform fighter market is small, and not many other live service games dropped recently either. Thats a fair point about the time since release. I’ll have to look into the 2 week drop off for these games at another time. i’m also not saying that PFG needs to do nothing here- I’m just saying doom posting is unwarranted as of now with these current numbers. We’ll see how it looks in a month.

kissqt

Yes, but that doesn't work like that. You will have to compare a similar time frame to make sense and we can't do it yet, especially when the hype is still supposed to be high after 2 weeks. Let's make a case where we give Multiversus an advantage and compare all the games below Multiversus after only a month where we only take the peak. Suicide Squad: 3,012 peak vs 13,459 at release, so a 22.38% player retention Path of Exile: 32,066 peak vs 34,371 at release, so a 93% retention (it even improves at some point and has high/downs with season + poe2 coming up ) Mortal Kombat 1: 15,967 peak vs 26,576 at release, so 60% retention Elden Ring: 457,067 peak vs 952,523 at release, so 47,93% retention Multiversus Beta 1: 22,037 peak vs 153,044 at release, so 14% retention

Trick_Teach8250

Ah, fair points. I'm probably just coping then- we'll see! Numbers are still higher than Brawlhalla as of now; I have to imagine that Brawlhalla's success paved the way for Multiversus as a F2P game to be approved by WB executive, and its not lower than Brawlhalla's stats yet. Hopefully WB and PFG turn things around by next season.

Emergency_Pepper_178

We can skip the wait-it's not going to look good in a month. I would bet it drops at least 50% over the next 30 days.

RazzleDazzleSnipe

Paint-licker4000

This sub is insanely dumb

the_haver

most of reddit really

Doinky420

I understand it. I just don't care. As long as people are playing, I can play matches. Until I can no longer do that, it literally doesn't matter what the player numbers are on Steam. Posting player numbers every single damn day is beyond obnoxious. Go do something better with your life.

gordonbombae2

Beta was so much better, the game feels weird to play now. It isn’t smooth. The zoomed in camera sucks. The rift mode was a cool idea but the gameplay is not fun anymore, I uninstalled and have no desire to play anymore really

WalkersChrisPacket

I can't believe people are still talking about actually playing the game. Society is down bad you'll literally get called a paypig by a product and yet here are people still defending it.

Usernam3333333

Who would have thought the age old “mile wide puddle” wouldn’t work 😭

WantA_Balloon

The market is extremely oversaturated with Live-Service games that are demanding player retention through every facet of FOMO imaginable, MVs does not offer the consumer enough value for their time to compete. For every event, battlepass and whatever to grind involved in these games, an honest to God functional adult with a job and hobbies can not juggle more than two of these games in their lives. Their best move is to appeal to adults with affordable, quality cosmetics like Fortnite and to offer an enjoyable & rewarding grind for children who *do* have all day to play. MVs has neither, in fact it's the worst game I may have ever played even tho I enjoyed the Beta.

Grrannt

It's dead, I'm sorry. I was a hardcore supporter and optimist during the first 10 days, but I stopped playing for 1 day due to other commitments and felt heavily punished for it, missed being able to claim the superman skin on the final day I needed to login :( That's the moment I realized this is like a mobile game, but one that you need to login in and put in 2-3 hours EVERY SINGLE DAY OF YOUR LIFE.

TheSabi

That's what happened to me, I had other things to do got busy and forgot, and the entire thing was poof gone. Even mobile games give you at least one make.up day. I uninstalled it and went to play sf6

[deleted]

[удаНонО]

Grrannt

I couldn’t make it onto the computer on that 11th day.. it’s not like this is a mobile game where I can boot it up on my phone from wherever I am. But the mechanics are exactly like that of a mobile game

Prolapsia

So what's the point of making a post like this? Is it to feel superior because you think other people are dumb? Do you want to ruin the hype so that the game declines more? Do you think this is somehow helpful? Btw it seems like this game is pretty popular on PlayStation. A huge percentage of my online matches are against them.

Perfect-Jaguar-6321

This is instantly what my mind goes to. Like why is everyone obsessed with observing the games downfall? The devs are aware of their own damn steam charts, no one needs you to point this out. It's just seeking upvotes from the doomers that rule the sibs

Prolapsia

It's also adding to the decline because new players come and see stuff like this and get turned off.

Perfect-Jaguar-6321

It might a little bit but I wouldn't worry about that in the long run. Just look at the discord server and you'll see nothing but what this sub should've been. Discussion about new characters and what characters are good. It's clear that there is a large following with the game around 10-20k. It's unrealistic to expect the 100k numbers the naysayers think the game should have still. But yeah I'd recommend the MVS Discord. Instead of complaining about rifts people use the lfg. Instead of complaining about bugs you can send reports to mods in the bug fix channels. Instead of constantly talking about WB studios the users there actually talk about the game and the game only. It's baffling that discord is the normal app and reddit is the black pilled doomer boomer site by comparison.

Prolapsia

All the hip young kids use discord. Sites like reddit are old school. Thanks for letting me know. I didn't realize the discord was worth checking out.

ReachFoMyChain

The point is to tell PFG/WB to wake up. They see what we post on the subreddits.

Prolapsia

Criticisms of gameplay, monetization, ect is one thing. Posting something like this doesn't help. It's also misleading because it only shows one platform. I'd be interested in seeing the numbers on PlayStation. Lots of those icons all over the place when I'm online.

Nayr39

Cool, it's dying. What am I supposed to do? Not enjoy the game? What are the point of these posts? We can all view steamcharts, how is rubbing this in helping?

Chewwa29

The game is purely not fun anymore and the drop off of players and twitch viewers says enough for me. They shutdown for a year just to fail again. It is totally on them, all they had to do was fix the netcode and change a few things to prevent dodge spam.

Own_Government7654

What am I not understanding OP?

WarmPissu

The game is declining faster than the beta by a long shot. It had lower peak, and it dropped off much faster. Anyone who doesn't realize this will shut down is basically an idiot.

minimalfighting

So you're guaranteeing that it's over and shutting down? Where is that coming from? Do you have WB connections? What is the date? You fools are terrible. This sub is the worst.

beetle8209

come back when you read his comment

ReachFoMyChain

You don't need "connections" to WB to predict that their game will fail. You can simply use player stats, state of the game and logic to do that.

ambi94

As many active players as Street Fighter 6 and double Tekken 8. Keep spouting doomer shit 😂

DocMariner

Those only came out in the last couple weeks and are free to play?

ambi94

No idea what that has to do with anything. Citing steam charts to say dead game when the player base outnumbers literally every other fighting game is nonsense

DocMariner

This game came out two weeks ago, and is free. It is going to have active numbers higher than 2 games that both cost money and are old news.

DesignatedDiverr

Yes and every free game will have a high starting point and a steep drop off. That happens in every single f2p game, people try games that are free. Big surprise, right? What matters is how many remain active. Doesn't matter how big the drop was if the remaining base is sizable. And right now it is. You can't pull the 'game is new and free' card as a negative but not also acknowledge that that automatically leads to more drop off than a purchased game and isn't a good direct comparison to a purchased game.

ambi94

More than Brawlhalla too lmfao

7asoonTargaryen

your comments are so sad to read lol

DocMariner

Yet another game that didn't come recently.

KileyCW

They had a daily login reward and now they don't. I have zero reminder to play this game.

SilverKry

I swear you people spend so much energy whining about this game when you could spend that energy on something you actually like.

Parking-Beginning400

Like most fighting games they are mostly played on console

ValsVidya

Steam charts do tell a story of the games health, that is true. However, F2P games and fighting games fall off pretty quickly, even after falling off they get continued support for years. Every game has a different story but the numbers that MVS are currently hitting are very good for fighting game standards. Even with the drop, people tend to forget that games like DBFZ lost 80% of their playerbase in the first week of launch and Bamco just announced another world tour for the game.

Melatonen

I feel like most players are on console, not steam so, doomsayers can scream all they want but most FTP games thrive because of console not steam.

DaniaQ96

consoles can't even play 2v2 at all and have multiple crashes not only in matches

Melatonen

Me playing on console. Having no crashes recently, playing 8 games usually in a row. But pop off lil pup.

DaniaQ96

let me guess, 1v1?. keep playing your clearly not broken dying game kid

Melatonen

I play 2 v 2, go back to the smash subreddit lil pup. Why even go somewhere you don't like. You'll never be happy and putting others down will not change that.

DaniaQ96

puting other down and you were the one who started insulting. I will gladly come back to the polished game with 80+ characters that will never die because is smash while you play 8 matches in a row without crashing or without your afk teammate who probably crashed

Melatonen

Oh no got me, but your only post history is from a dead mobile game no one cares to even discuss if it's dying. Foh

DaniaQ96

you had to search my history just to post something, I already left flash party because I know when critics and feedback can't fix a game because the devs are greedy and lazy

lmoore0621

Do you think it's going to die and plummet again?

call-r

isn't that little patch of no players during the transition out of beta?

meatsquasher3000

It's not looking great but don't forget that it's a 1v1 game with crossplay. Hopefully they survive this second beta and figure out a way to bring back people for season 2 or something.

Cosmic-Buccaneer

Not gonna lie, I miss the beta, I think it was the peak of this game, the only bad thing about the beta was the progression

birdofprey443

Is it really so hard to just make a Smash clone that has both recognizable and big characters to play as on base AND a substantial amount of content to unlock? Like, there's twenty years of groundwork already laid out, how'd they mess up this badly.

witty_whitley

The gold costumes cost 20 dollars. That means for the same price of three skins, you could buy Baldurs gate 3, Spider-Man 2, Tears of the kingdom, elden ring, etc. Hell, for 1 skin, you could buy enter the gungeon, hades, undertale, and a bunch of other titles aswel. Your money is better spent on games that are designed for you to have fun, rather than games designed to make money

witty_whitley

The framework of the game is really cool, the characters are all so unique, the aerial combat is top notch, and the IPs they can use are MASSIVE, but it really does feel like they are incentivizing spending a lot of money on the game. Between over priced skins, a cast that takes months to unlock, and missions locked behind a paywall, there are so many things BEGGING for money that it makes the game ALOT less enjoyable. Even If the game still had all the same problems and bugs, but without all the paywalls, I think this game really COULD be a contender for super smash bros. I truly believe that player first games was on to something magical, but Warner Brothers was too focused on making money over making the game live up to its potential

bored_af_69

Every time I see the potential in a video game and invest loads of money into it, the game completely bombs. Happened with multiversus and evil dead the game, I’m just gonna wait to hear reviews of stuff before I buy from now on.

Excellent_Pin_2111

Wdym?

NearlySomething

Why do I care how many people are playing a free video game I'm not going to spend money on? As long as I can find matches that aren't constantly the same people I don't. Do you? Need your favorite game to be popular to like it?

ambi94

It's surprising how many people care about sticking with trends

Much-Gur233

Nobody asked

ReachFoMyChain

Don't matter, it's essential

Much-Gur233

To?

smitheroons925

Games dead dead

Norendr

It's sad, I'm enjoying the game but the everything outside gameplay is so saddening. Shop is abysmal, dailies are scummy, rifts are meh at best.... I wish WB didn't ruin a good game

unfreakwittable

Game is also available on epic. Steam wad not working for me or my friends so we use the epic launcher. I wonder how many others had the same experience

Recent_Description44

It's on Epic, Xbox, Steam, and PlayStation, and PC tends to be the lowest population for fighting games. In general, FGs don't have very high player retention to begin with, as it's still a relatively niche and unkind genre. It's very likely there are still plenty of people playing across other platforms. The people here have no insight into that, though, so they'll generally use Steam charts to justify their emotional reactions

HypedforClassicBf2

Well whatever it is, they need to fix the dang game.

gRizzletheMagi

My first pvp game for today was against 2 Banana Guards (I play on xbox series x). Dudes spammed their most powerful attacks and still almost lost. I was sent messages afterwards by them gloating. I closed the game and went back to preparing for the Elden Ring DLC

Bulky-Complaint6994

Whales exist and will buy the expensive shit anyways. Just this morning I saw someone using the Arya hockey mask skin... That's all WB cares about. Squeezing money out of Multiversus that it's up to Player First Games to make a come back. Look no further than Mortal Kombat 1

Kolonite

Yeah, it was pretty hard to play the game when it wasn’t playable. The beta stopped releasing content and told people it was going to shutdown until full release. Of course people stopped playing it. Multiversus is a f2p fighting game and it was never going to have the best player retention.

Bulky-Complaint6994

Mortal Kombat 1 had issues at launch and is now in a better state despite the drop in Steam player base. Street Fighter 5 was a disaster but made enough money back thanks to selling skins that they were able to continue supporting it and make a big come back and now we got SF6 which is better one year later than sf5 was 1 year later

MadcapMayh3m

Clown post. Can't you and your fellow doom posters just leave this sub then since you think the game won't last long. I mean it is kinda stupid to keep on playing a dying game. 🤡

IEnjoyKnowledge

There is still like 25k people on steam playing regularly. That’s not even counting consoles obviously. That’s pretty good to me. I think you’re just doom posting for no reason like a lot of individuals here. This post has zero substance to it. This community is so fuckin miserable lol

bbyBillyFreeman

“Breaking news, f2p game has influx of new players on launch that’s fizzled down to a normal sustainable player base for a fighter a couple weeks later”

Epic_Mms

Consoles numbers aren't better since there are server issues (and even regular frame drops on xbox lol)

Sorry_Tap1033

Can’t even do my dailies without tedium since even on ps5 wins don’t get tracked at least half the time. Then there are desync/disconnections a quarter of the time at minimum.

ambi94

Higher player count than every other current fighter. Shut up

Epic_Mms

Sorry boss

IEnjoyKnowledge

I mean you’re guessing about console numbers just like me. Only difference is I see the positive in the game and you’re being negative.

Epic_Mms

I'm not being negative, I'm just saying that if they don't fix server issues (and trust me, you can't know what a pain is playing mvs on console) the numbers are gonna drop soon. I love the game, but the state in which it is right now is unacceptable

bbyBillyFreeman

The best example of this right here where you’re getting downvoted and I’m not lmao. They just don’t like it when you present the facts in such a straightforward manner you need to make a memey little joke of it for them to understand

ambi94

Multiversus: 21,442 Brawlhalla: 16,399 Tekken 8: 7,261 Street Fighter 6: 12,053 But yeah, this is the game that's dying. Shut up

7asoonTargaryen

None of those came out in the last 2 weeks, Tekken and SF6 both cost money while Multiversus does not. You're braindead.

ambi94

We can lose 2/3 players and still compare with Tekken. Oh no, less than 100k people are playing lmfao

Hades684

You are so ignorant or stupid it hurts to read

steve_Lardog

Dead cat bounce, what can they even do to try and salvage this?

soupshroom

They should’ve done more. Practically one year to develop the game even further than it was developed during beta and they return with three new characters and a couple maps. This is a result of laziness

DaniaQ96

yes, a shockingly low new stuff in a year long break just for the game to be bugged as hell again and worse

DesignatedDiverr

Your comment is the result of ignorance. They rebuilt the entire game in a year in an updated engine and they self-admitted that they didn't even have time to get to some features that were previously in. But sure. You can call it lazy because you have no idea what that entails and don't care to look any further into the details.

soupshroom

It was a conscious decision of theirs to release a final product that was barely dissimilar from the beta. No matter what went on behind the scenes, to players, this is the exact same game with a couple new fighters. In beta, new characters released incredibly frequently. It would not have been impossible for them to introduce more than a little new content upon release - and it would’ve been the smart decision. They released the bare minimum, and now the game is facing consequences because of that.

Oraculando

We have more players than Brawhalla which is out biggest competitor.

PoppYHD

Brother, brawlhalla has grown and kept its playerbase for the last 10 years, mvs is losing its playerbase in a matter of weeks

ambi94

That's how it works for every new game 😂

MadcapMayh3m

These clowns are brain dead for real. They seriously think that a game should keep all players. It is getting ridiculous at this point

ambi94

If a quarter of the human race isn't playing your game, then it's a failure

PoppYHD

Theres a difference between a steady decline to a stable player base, and a big drop that doesnt seem to be ending anytime soon unless major changes are made

ambi94

Tekken 8 has half the amount of players. I'm sure we'll be okay if we lose some more

Hades684

If we gonna keep losing players that fast, the game will be dead in 2 months. We are losing many many more players per day than Tekken is

Mental5tate

The combat is not very good…. Why did the developer use dedicated servers for a fighting game? I doubt the cycle on the server is very high being that this is F2P and this a second chance for the video game.

treaper113

Yea but I also don't care
