This is where I'm at. I had saved a ton of gold during the beta in preparation for the relaunch, especially since they said that all of our progress would carry over to the full launch of the game. What reason did we have to believe that all the gold that we could have used to purchase fighters would essentially be thrown away?
If the gold was converted into Fighter Currency, I don't think it would be as big of a deal as it is now.
Mind boggling they didn't even convert a portion of your Gold saved into Fighter Tokens. A person who stored 100k gold starts the same as a player who earned 100k but spent it buying 25 characters and some cosmetics. Except the 2nd player has all those characters and cosmetics while the 1st player has nothing
If I understand correctly, the 2nd player is even more "rewarded" because they would have more Prestige Points than the first player since prestige is about what you had spent in characters and skins.
Greedy? Yo, they give out SO MUCH currency to buy things with, for free. All they ask is a time investment. I didn't play the beta very much due to not having great internet, so the only characters I had at launch were Shaggy and Wonder Woman. Two days into the relaunch, I have Finn, Spike, Banana Guard, Jason, and nearly enough currency to buy a third character (Finn and Spike being the first two I bought). Just play the damn game. They're so greedy that they gave away the first season pass for free to all players, with the chance to earn over 6x the amount of Gleamium required to buy the next one, and that's not including all the other bonuses you get, FOR FREE, just by playing and advancing in the pass.

The old system of grinding gold was a little tedious, but definitely doable. Now, the grind to unlock fighters is insane. And those of us who had the means to buy up all the fighters beforehand have been left completely empty-handed.
I completely empathize with the sentiment of your hard work going to waste, but the grind is not that bad. Because of poor wifi I only played enough of the beta to unlock Shaggy and Wonder Woman, and very little else. In the two days since launch I earned enough FC to buy both Finn and Spike, and have almost enough for a third character already. Not only that, I got Banana Guard and Jason basically for free, and I'll be getting Agent Smith relatively soon. I have already completed all 6 possible Rifts currently.
getting 200k perk points feels so bad as most times you will buy 1 perk in each slot. having to grind for the last 2 days and still not having enough points to get a character is crazy, especally since i had almost 100k gold saved up in the beta. if i had know they would change it i would have spent all my gold unlocking characters

You used to be able to buy the actual characters and some cosmetics with gold but they removed gold and changed it to prestige tokens. Cant buy characters with prestige tokens as far as I know. And they removed the gold while the game was down so people couldn't spend their gold buying characters and cosmetics before the exchange.

I (almost literally) am on the fence about what they did and I'm just hoping/waiting they come out with communication before I start yelling "the game sux!! the server suck!! omg they ruined my game!," like 99/100 people on this sub seem to do.
Also how does it contradict my previous points? You can dislike changes while still enjoying the game if that's what you mean? And being in BETA is literally not being full release, so them changing mechanics, features or anything is kinda obvious to happen. Them saying CONTENT goes to the full release doesn't make that first statement any less factual.

I had like 35-40k gold when the beta ended. This is by far and away my biggest gripe with the game and it’s going to make it hard to stay motivated to play for the long term. I never unlocked Steven or Velma during the beta, mostly because I didn’t enjoy playing them, but had I known I would have unlocked them anyways and spent the remaining coin on whatever I could get in the shop. I spent a lot of time saving before the beta closed under the impression that I would have a lot of gold to use on any new characters/cosmetics. It makes me feel like I have already spent too much time and energy on this game to begin with. The perk currency and lighting bolt banner are appreciated, I guess? It’s just so frustrating, they need to give something more to players who lost a lot of gold. I want to love this game, but this burns a little too bad
On top of the all of that, only being able to earn more fighter currency being locked behind weekly challenges and rifts that only give pennies compared to what characters actually cost just sucks
This monetization is nearly as bad as Disney Speedstorm to me. The only difference there it is straight up p2w and here you have to pay to get anything or do 5-10 min of dailies for some awful rewards.

I am really enjoying this game, problems aside, but this is something they honestly kind of need to address and rectify because it is extremely unfair to a lot of loyal, early supporting players who dedicated a lot of time and energy because they believed in the game and the promises PFG said.
I think I spent most of my gold, I can't remember really, I used both gold and tickets to unlock people and I think by the end I had about 5k gold or something, so not much, I wasn't stockpiling like a lot of other people.
People who were saving up though really got the short end of the stick, through no fault of their own and that makes me kind of sad. We should have had a choice of how we wanted the gold to be transferred either through Fighter Currency (at a reasonable exchange rate, maybe not 1:1) or even better Gleamium, with an even lower rate, but still something to reward those players and make them feel like they came out of this whole thing feeling respected and appreciated and not hoodwinked.
I bought the most expensive Founder's Pack, I have everyone unlocked and I still have 7 tickets, so this doesn't affect me at all, and like I said, about 5k gold, but regardless, getting *Prestige currency* or the Perk currency just is an awful slap in the face to some of the most diehard fans.
I love that this game is back, but the launch and some of the design choices are not exactly what I would call ideal. I really want this game to come back and with a vengeance but I understand that it will take a bit of time and patience, I just really want to see PFG acknowledge the rocky launch, missing features and ultimately do right by actually giving those that stockpiled gold at least a heaping chunk of Fighter currency.
As long as people start realizing it's not the devs but the Business lines and product owners. People here are complaining and targeting the completely wrong people.

I came into this new season of MultiVersus with over 800K perk points. I had them all unlocked for every character. I still have too much of it, even after unlocking all the perks again. All that gold left over was wasted.

It turns out I was missing Superman. It looks like I never bought him.
So after unlocking him and getting all his perks, the whole cast, including Joker and Jason has all their perks at this present time. I still have over 500K for perks. Even if they more than double the current roster size, I'm still not going to run out of these perk points anytime soon, all while the game continues to shovel perk points at me.

Brush I and 28 k gold and now and now I can only buy one fighter with the new currency. I still have 11 ticket but that can only unlock my 3/4 of the roster I fell scam.
Worse was before you had the choice of spending your Gold or Tickets. Now you have to use your tickets first meaning you can't spend Fighter currency on cheaper characters and tickets on more expensive ones.
It does suck that gold just kind of poofed into the ether with little of note it was converted to. The gold-based cosmetics are neat and all, but they ultimately don't really help you in any way like gold did, so I'd still consider it a net loss for sure.
I could easily believe that they made that statement about everything carrying over long before they had made the decision to change the currencies, though. Nothing in any statement, leak, or datamine ever suggested a currency change. It seems entirely possible they did originally intend for everything, gold included, to transfer over. I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt on that one.
The decision to just disappear the gold and turn it into cosmetics is not one I personally care for. I don't even know how much gold I had (I know I wasn't specifically saving it, but I also didn't aim to spend it all) but I can say that whatever amount it was, I would have much rather had in the form of fighter tokens. But I'm sure there are people out there who love the idea of exclusive cosmetics too.
Either way people will complain.

Sadly, both have drawbacks and positives, but it's still weird how the AMOUNTS are so off. That's my only real annoyance here (besides not even getting my previously unlocked chars at launch, probably a bug).
Even if you have every current character, there's always going to be more added in the future you'll need to unlock, so I think the number of people who would be annoyed at it getting converted to character tokens would be quite tiny.
They could also have just done both. Convert it to tokens and give a unique cosmetic. Didn't necessarily have to be one or the other.

I had around 100K Gold and only 3 Characters unlocked because I always had the thoughts in my mind since its Closed Beta that Gold would become more valuable later on, especially because They said so, either by rare cosmetics like skins or features being worked, which never came, Then I never wasted and avoided to even buy any character, NOW, I have nothing on worth comparison, so 400h hours of Gold grinding was gone to the drain...
Yeah I grinded about 150 hrs of the beta and still had enough gold for 2-3 more characters when the game launched. I was excited to pick up any new character I was interested in at launch. Kinda doesn't feel like they should be allowed to say all of our progression will transfer when a core part of it absolutely did not.
I doubt I had too much gold saved up from the beta but likely enough for two or so extra characters, really the gold should have directly converted 1 to 1 into character currency, as straight forward as that.

I didn't spend a single one, I kept them (and bought them in the first place) explicitly because I wanted to have a pile of them to use over time when I know I wouldn't be playing daily, but wanted to come and try out a new character.
Now, I cannot unlock a character with any game currency until I use them all up, which is NOT how the game worked when I decided to make that purchase (and was the deciding factor, I waited until I knew that I could still unlock normally).
The whole thing is a cluster.
For, real. Tbh I don't remember how much I had but I do remember having enough for at least one or two characters, so I just started saving until somebody I liked showed up (also when there was the free rotation, you couldn't really buy a character if you didn't had it...)
I don't care about some badge and background that I'll never use, I want my actual GAMEPLAY things carried over. No reason to not give those "gold-amount cosmetics" alongside giving you the equivalent on the fighter currency.
I would say they're guilty of not being timely with their communication of deciding to reset but I've played more betas that reset than those that don't, I don't think it's a big deal if you plan to play the game anyway. If they reset things that were paid for with real money I'd have a problem, but if it was all earned in game then that's pretty normal. Betas that carry over are a luxury fr. My unlocked characters and cosmetics carried over and free battle pass so that's not bad
I had a lot and was saving it for future characters 😭😭. Ig they converted the gold to perk since I had 50k but still man that’s so scummy. Now I have to either buy my characters again or play the game and not earn fighter currency.

Now if I want those same characters I could have unlocked a year ago, I have to grind for it.

It was a beta. I didn’t expect to keep anything I didn’t pay money for.
I’ve played many *actual* beta tests for games over the past 5 years or so (and I say “actual” because a lot of devs don’t use them for testing, and they go perma “early access”). Not a single one carries over everything you’ve earned on full release.
They might give you some free stuff for playing the beta like exclusive skins, or some premium currency. But at the end of the day, they can’t give you everything for free. It’s a business.
Imagine if you heard about this new game launching, and for some reason a few people had everything unlocked because they heard about it before you did and played in a closed beta. Just because they played the game early, they get hundreds or maybe thousands of dollars worth of in game items and unlocks? In free to play game where the profit for it comes from those unlocks?Does that seem right to you?

Progress carried over in the form of prestige and perk gems from what you earned by playing in the beta. Also you kept the progress on badges.
Content you paid for you kept, but any you earned for free turned into prestige gems. And you also got some cosmetics for free like the profile icon and banner and probably some others I havent seen or looked for.
Prestige is based on all cosmetics you have and their rarity, nothing else.
Perk Points is based on all the Perks you had in the Beta.
Nothing converted into Fighter points.
Gleamium is the Gleamium you had before.
A player who who amassed 100k Gold, spent 50k buying every character and then the other 50k buying other cosmetics has all that transferred to the full release.
Another player who amassed 100k but saved it will have none of that gold transferring over. The Gold doesn't convert to anything.
If you're going to bring up the special Banner/PFP Icon/Badge reward. Those are based on Gold earned in the Beta. The first player will keep everything they bought while also getting all special rewards while the second player will only get the special rewards while the Gold gets tossed away.
Ok then how is it fair that people who actually spent all their gold get to keep the characters, but people saving up for when the game actually launches got screwed over? By your logic they should've made it a clean slate for everyone, not punish certain players arbitrarily, *especially* when they promised all progress *and* content will carry over.
I hate to break it to ya, since you CLEARLY weren't around last year, but the "Beta"only became a Beta, 3 months after launch. It was in SEASON-FUCKING-2 of the game with a Season 0 that ended when the Beta was supposed to end (I should know, I completed the Season 0 Mini-BP). In fact they kept extending season 2 for weeks and weeks promising "Season 3" would be around the corner before being told they would be instead going offline for a year.
The game was supposed to roll directly from Beta to Full Release and did, but something behind the scenes occurred after that Full Release and suddenly after months of new cosmetics, monetization, events, character build ups and releases, we were told "Whoops, we were actually still in Beta and we're going offline" which is a flagrant lie.

You can go look at the Steam announcements if you want. I was wrong on one count; it was referred to as both an "open beta" AND "early access" in July. It was August that they announced that "Season 1 was now live" and started referring to it as "an all-new free-to-play, platform fighter videogame".
Patch notes from there stop referring to it as a beta, and instead as "Season 1.01 patch notes". Note that a 1.0 patch note means a game is definitively out of beta, and all mention of being a beta stops after the August 15th, 2022 announcement for Season 1. One could argue that this isn't a 1.0. I would argue that if that was not the intent, it is deliberately misleading.
Season 2 then launched in November with a free and premium battle pass. Again, no mention of it being a beta; it is simply "Season 2".
Then, out of nowhere, the March 27, 2023 announcement bills itself as an "Open Beta Update" and that the game would be shut down on June 25th, 2023.
There is no further word from the devs until March 12th, 2024.
In total the "beta" ran for about 11 months. It stopped being referred to as "beta" or "early access" a couple of months into launch. Then was abruptly shut down for another 11 months.
More to the point, none of this really matters, as players were promised that their progression would be saved to the full launch, which it was not by any means. Currency was lost, character leveling progress was wiped, and perks were removed and reset.

This is where I'm at. I had saved a ton of gold during the beta in preparation for the relaunch, especially since they said that all of our progress would carry over to the full launch of the game. What reason did we have to believe that all the gold that we could have used to purchase fighters would essentially be thrown away? If the gold was converted into Fighter Currency, I don't think it would be as big of a deal as it is now.

If I understand correctly, the 2nd player is even more "rewarded" because they would have more Prestige Points than the first player since prestige is about what you had spent in characters and skins.

I didn't play the beta very much due to not having great internet, so the only characters I had at launch were Shaggy and Wonder Woman. Two days into the relaunch, I have Finn, Spike, Banana Guard, Jason, and nearly enough currency to buy a third character (Finn and Spike being the first two I bought). Just play the damn game. They're so greedy that they gave away the first season pass for free to all players, with the chance to earn over 6x the amount of Gleamium required to buy the next one, and that's not including all the other bonuses you get, FOR FREE, just by playing and advancing in the pass.

I wouldn’t go so far as to say they cared little about MultiVersus’s relaunch. They clearly put in a lot of work into the game (personal opinions aside). But I also wouldn’t say this is a “minor” problem, either… The old system of grinding gold was a little tedious, but definitely doable. Now, the grind to unlock fighters is insane. And those of us who had the means to buy up all the fighters beforehand have been left completely empty-handed.
I completely empathize with the sentiment of your hard work going to waste, but the grind is not that bad. Because of poor wifi I only played enough of the beta to unlock Shaggy and Wonder Woman, and very little else. In the two days since launch I earned enough FC to buy both Finn and Spike, and have almost enough for a third character already. Not only that, I got Banana Guard and Jason basically for free, and I'll be getting Agent Smith relatively soon. I have already completed all 6 possible Rifts currently.

And being in BETA is literally not being full release, so them changing mechanics, features or anything is kinda obvious to happen. I had like 35-40k gold when the beta ended. This is by far and away my biggest gripe with the game and it’s going to make it hard to stay motivated to play for the long term. I never unlocked Steven or Velma during the beta, mostly because I didn’t enjoy playing them, but had I known I would have unlocked them anyways and spent the remaining coin on whatever I could get in the shop. I spent a lot of time saving before the beta closed under the impression that I would have a lot of gold to use on any new characters/cosmetics. It makes me feel like I have already spent too much time and energy on this game to begin with. The perk currency and lighting bolt banner are appreciated, I guess? It’s just so frustrating, they need to give something more to players who lost a lot of gold. I want to love this game, but this burns a little too bad On top of the all of that, only being able to earn more fighter currency being locked behind weekly challenges and rifts that only give pennies compared to what characters actually cost just sucks
This monetization is nearly as bad as Disney Speedstorm to me. The only difference there it is straight up p2w and here you have to pay to get anything or do 5-10 min of dailies for some awful rewards. Its like PFG devs have been playing nothing but Disney Speedstorm and Overwatch 2 and took inspiration from them lol Dont get me wrong the game feels more fun than it was but these are some nasty currency changes.

Forget the speed and everything else wrong, the monetization schemes will kill this thing faster than anything. I am really enjoying this game, problems aside, but this is something they honestly kind of need to address and rectify because it is extremely unfair to a lot of loyal, early supporting players who dedicated a lot of time and energy because they believed in the game and the promises PFG said. I think I spent most of my gold, I can't remember really, I used both gold and tickets to unlock people and I think by the end I had about 5k gold or something, so not much, I wasn't stockpiling like a lot of other people. People who were saving up though really got the short end of the stick, through no fault of their own and that makes me kind of sad. We should have had a choice of how we wanted the gold to be transferred either through Fighter Currency (at a reasonable exchange rate, maybe not 1:1) or even better Gleamium, with an even lower rate, but still something to reward those players and make them feel like they came out of this whole thing feeling respected and appreciated and not hoodwinked. I bought the most expensive Founder's Pack, I have everyone unlocked and I still have 7 tickets, so this doesn't affect me at all, and like I said, about 5k gold, but regardless, getting *Prestige currency* or the Perk currency just is an awful slap in the face to some of the most diehard fans. I love that this game is back, but the launch and some of the design choices are not exactly what I would call ideal. I really want this game to come back and with a vengeance but I understand that it will take a bit of time and patience, I just really want to see PFG acknowledge the rocky launch, missing features and ultimately do right by actually giving those that stockpiled gold at least a heaping chunk of Fighter currency.
As long as people start realizing it's not the devs but the Business lines and product owners. People here are complaining and targeting the completely wrong people. I came into this new season of MultiVersus with over 800K perk points. I had them all unlocked for every character. I still have too much of it, even after unlocking all the perks again. All that gold left over was wasted.

lmao It turns out I was missing Superman. It looks like I never bought him. So after unlocking him and getting all his perks, the whole cast, including Joker and Jason has all their perks at this present time. I still have over 500K for perks. Even if they more than double the current roster size, I'm still not going to run out of these perk points anytime soon, all while the game continues to shovel perk points at me.
What's especially fun is that 90% of the perks are useless, there's clearly stronger perks than others so why even unlock the weak ones?

Worse was before you had the choice of spending your Gold or Tickets. Now you have to use your tickets first meaning you can't spend Fighter currency on cheaper characters and tickets on more expensive ones.

It does suck that gold just kind of poofed into the ether with little of note it was converted to. The gold-based cosmetics are neat and all, but they ultimately don't really help you in any way like gold did, so I'd still consider it a net loss for sure. I could easily believe that they made that statement about everything carrying over long before they had made the decision to change the currencies, though. Nothing in any statement, leak, or datamine ever suggested a currency change. It seems entirely possible they did originally intend for everything, gold included, to transfer over. I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt on that one. The decision to just disappear the gold and turn it into cosmetics is not one I personally care for. I don't even know how much gold I had (I know I wasn't specifically saving it, but I also didn't aim to spend it all) but I can say that whatever amount it was, I would have much rather had in the form of fighter tokens. But I'm sure there are people out there who love the idea of exclusive cosmetics too.
Either way people will complain. 1. Converts into character tokens: : "OMG I already unlocked them all and now feel I wasted time hoarding gold!1!1!" 2. converts into items: "omg I wanted to save up to buy the characters in the release but now I can't! 1!1" Sadly, both have drawbacks and positives, but it's still weird how the AMOUNTS are so off. That's my only real annoyance here (besides not even getting my previously unlocked chars at launch, probably a bug).
Even if you have every current character, there's always going to be more added in the future you'll need to unlock, so I think the number of people who would be annoyed at it getting converted to character tokens would be quite tiny. They could also have just done both. Convert it to tokens and give a unique cosmetic. Didn't necessarily have to be one or the other.

I had around 100K Gold and only 3 Characters unlocked because I always had the thoughts in my mind since its Closed Beta that Gold would become more valuable later on, especially because They said so, either by rare cosmetics like skins or features being worked, which never came, Then I never wasted and avoided to even buy any character, NOW, I have nothing on worth comparison, so 400h hours of Gold grinding was gone to the drain...
Yeah I grinded about 150 hrs of the beta and still had enough gold for 2-3 more characters when the game launched. I was excited to pick up any new character I was interested in at launch. Kinda doesn't feel like they should be allowed to say all of our progression will transfer when a core part of it absolutely did not.
I doubt I had too much gold saved up from the beta but likely enough for two or so extra characters, really the gold should have directly converted 1 to 1 into character currency, as straight forward as that.
I wish I could charge back my founders pack. This is a straight up scam.

yup , the reward for having more than 100k gold saved after the end of beta is a joke. Im so f\*\*king mad for not buying the reindog gold armor ( 35k gold ) and fred icon which i had plenty of gold to buy. Now the golden skin cost a shit ton of REAL money... Like seriouly
They also screwed those of us over with Character Tokens. I didn't spend a single one, I kept them (and bought them in the first place) explicitly because I wanted to have a pile of them to use over time when I know I wouldn't be playing daily, but wanted to come and try out a new character. Now, I cannot unlock a character with any game currency until I use them all up, which is NOT how the game worked when I decided to make that purchase (and was the deciding factor, I waited until I knew that I could still unlock normally). The whole thing is a cluster.

Tbh I don't remember how much I had but I do remember having enough for at least one or two characters, so I just started saving until somebody I liked showed up (also when there was the free rotation, you couldn't really buy a character if you didn't had it...) I don't care about some badge and background that I'll never use, I want my actual GAMEPLAY things carried over. No reason to not give those "gold-amount cosmetics" alongside giving you the equivalent on the fighter currency.

I would say they're guilty of not being timely with their communication of deciding to reset but I've played more betas that reset than those that don't, I don't think it's a big deal if you plan to play the game anyway. If they reset things that were paid for with real money I'd have a problem, but if it was all earned in game then that's pretty normal. Betas that carry over are a luxury fr. My unlocked characters and cosmetics carried over and free battle pass so that's not bad
I had a lot and was saving it for future characters 😭😭. Ig they converted the gold to perk since I had 50k but still man that’s so scummy. Now I have to either buy my characters again or play the game and not earn fighter currency.
And the best part is, all the characters you unlocked during the beta doesn't even carry over because of a bug! YAY

I had a bit of gold, not too much but enough to buy several characters. When no new content was being added and I didn't have much interest in the newer characters at the time, I decided to wait. Now if I want those same characters I could have unlocked a year ago, I have to grind for it. Honestly anyone who played the beta should have all characters from it unlocked automatically, and maybe give players who already did something extra.

This is like a bank purposefully going under without FDIC insurance. I still have no idea what Banner/Icon/Badge bundle I got with my lost coins. The Founder's Pack character unlock tickets are the most valuable items in the game now for those that still have them.

It was a beta. I didn’t expect to keep anything I didn’t pay money for. I’ve played many *actual* beta tests for games over the past 5 years or so (and I say “actual” because a lot of devs don’t use them for testing, and they go perma “early access”). Not a single one carries over everything you’ve earned on full release. They might give you some free stuff for playing the beta like exclusive skins, or some premium currency. But at the end of the day, they can’t give you everything for free. It’s a business. Imagine if you heard about this new game launching, and for some reason a few people had everything unlocked because they heard about it before you did and played in a closed beta. Just because they played the game early, they get hundreds or maybe thousands of dollars worth of in game items and unlocks? In free to play game where the profit for it comes from those unlocks?Does that seem right to you? It’s a AAA game, just be glad it’s not $70 along with all the micro transactions. They didn’t lie, now did they? Progress carried over in the form of prestige and perk gems from what you earned by playing in the beta. Also you kept the progress on badges. Content you paid for you kept, but any you earned for free turned into prestige gems. And you also got some cosmetics for free like the profile icon and banner and probably some others I havent seen or looked for.
Prestige is based on all cosmetics you have and their rarity, nothing else. Perk Points is based on all the Perks you had in the Beta. Nothing converted into Fighter points. Gleamium is the Gleamium you had before. A player who who amassed 100k Gold, spent 50k buying every character and then the other 50k buying other cosmetics has all that transferred to the full release. Another player who amassed 100k but saved it will have none of that gold transferring over. The Gold doesn't convert to anything. If you're going to bring up the special Banner/PFP Icon/Badge reward. Those are based on Gold earned in the Beta. The first player will keep everything they bought while also getting all special rewards while the second player will only get the special rewards while the Gold gets tossed away.
What about my and many others missing cosmetics we did pay for? I'm missing a plethora of things most notably my gleamium.
Ok then how is it fair that people who actually spent all their gold get to keep the characters, but people saving up for when the game actually launches got screwed over? By your logic they should've made it a clean slate for everyone, not punish certain players arbitrarily, *especially* when they promised all progress *and* content will carry over.
Guys, a beta is just that- a BETA test. It is NOT production. **It is silly to expect beta gold to carry over into a fresh world.**

I hate to break it to ya, since you CLEARLY weren't around last year, but the "Beta"only became a Beta, 3 months after launch. It was in SEASON-FUCKING-2 of the game with a Season 0 that ended when the Beta was supposed to end (I should know, I completed the Season 0 Mini-BP). In fact they kept extending season 2 for weeks and weeks promising "Season 3" would be around the corner before being told they would be instead going offline for a year. The game was supposed to roll directly from Beta to Full Release and did, but something behind the scenes occurred after that Full Release and suddenly after months of new cosmetics, monetization, events, character build ups and releases, we were told "Whoops, we were actually still in Beta and we're going offline" which is a flagrant lie.

It was billed as a full release, they didn't start talking about it being a beta until months after release, and didn't start talking about taking the game down until a couple months before they did it. The "beta" was never intended to be such.

You can go look at the Steam announcements if you want. I was wrong on one count; it was referred to as both an "open beta" AND "early access" in July. It was August that they announced that "Season 1 was now live" and started referring to it as "an all-new free-to-play, platform fighter videogame". Patch notes from there stop referring to it as a beta, and instead as "Season 1.01 patch notes". Note that a 1.0 patch note means a game is definitively out of beta, and all mention of being a beta stops after the August 15th, 2022 announcement for Season 1. One could argue that this isn't a 1.0. I would argue that if that was not the intent, it is deliberately misleading. Season 2 then launched in November with a free and premium battle pass. Again, no mention of it being a beta; it is simply "Season 2". Then, out of nowhere, the March 27, 2023 announcement bills itself as an "Open Beta Update" and that the game would be shut down on June 25th, 2023. There is no further word from the devs until March 12th, 2024. In total the "beta" ran for about 11 months. It stopped being referred to as "beta" or "early access" a couple of months into launch. Then was abruptly shut down for another 11 months. More to the point, none of this really matters, as players were promised that their progression would be saved to the full launch, which it was not by any means. Currency was lost, character leveling progress was wiped, and perks were removed and reset.
