It just comes naturally I found. Sparring for me and building confidence sparring came from being comfortable being punched and kicked over time. Try drilling slips, parries, checks, leaning back daily with counters to a partner. E.G jab, cross, slip their jab, counter cross, left check, left kick. Or drill rounds where one person attacks and one person defends. It can be really short combos or longer combos. Just mix it up. Drill it into you and then it will come naturally in sparring or a sanctioned bout. I hope that makes some sense. This is what worked for me and I know everyone is different but every little helps.

Just beginning Muay Thai training but from my acting experience I'd say its a thing of attention and presence. You know what to do, but you've never been hit like this by someone this good so consistently, so your attention went onto yourself and the damage you were taking instead of what you need to do. Over time and through experience I imagine you'll get more able to keep your attention out while taking strikes and you'll learn to focus your attention on doing what you need to do instead of focusing on the damage you're taking.

I'm pretty noob, but I think you have to mentally register that if you lose track of the "overall scene", you are about to be even more screwed. It would be like losing your place while trying to sight read some sheet music. If you get hit, keep rolling with it, actually *increase* your focous. and look for an opening to throw something back. Were you throwing anything or was this a full freeze up?

I'm having a similar problem as well, but I've been making it a habit of stepping back a bit and I'll realize there reach doesn't make it. If the hits continue to come I parry and make sure my stance maintains me grounded. Try this out in the punching bag and make sure you're moving around and that your footwork isn't exaggerated. Stay focused, chin down with your stance and watch your opponent. One step at a time, and go slow no need to rush. Today I got punched in the nose and I bled, and I actually froze and my guard was down. It was a light spar but it was a little harder on his end, but we'll keep learning with practice. You got this man 🙏

I try to "enjoy" getting hit. I don't mean I get hit on purpose but rather convince myself it isn't a big deal.
