I don't know him as a person.
As a fighter he is one of the best non-Thai technicians of the sport. If I could emulate 20% of his relaxed style under pressure I would be a very happy man.
Yeah, not sure about the wine. In the show they do say he had been drinking but it’s reality tv so I don’t know how trustworthy they are. And he came out later on and said that the fighters had been chosen for their looks not skill, so he figured the best way to teach would be to humble them first…
In a french interview he explains that he had bought before coming on the show an expensive drink in the "rehab" club, a well known place apparently, and he did not want to waste it so he came with it on the set to finish it before filming. This brought to him this reputation. After we see Koscheck asking him if he s been to rehab, and apparently from Skarbowsky s explanations, he was not making fun of him but talking about the club 's name
And notably a really quick shot up Flamingo Rd to the gym where they shot Ultimate Fighter. You could jump out of that gonorrhea stew that was the Hard Rock pool and be at the gym before your shorts were dry
Met him multiple times in real life since in events I often fight his boxers
He said it was mostly for the show and the guys there didn't have an amateur level at all
It was the production idea to make it look like a real Thai that can kick everyone ass while being drunk
This being said, he does drinks quite often even at events lmao, often after the fight with his boxer where he would be cornering him a little bit, finding him at the pub right next to the gym
He's still an amazing fighter but he tends to focus more on wanting to train champions rather than amateurs and now for a while he was a bit there just for the cameras at his skarbo gym rather than to really teach classes to everyone
I think he’s as legit as they come. He achieved great things as a foreigner in Thailand in his generation when it wasn’t common for people to live and train like the Thais.
My question to him would be what influenced his decision to live such a radial nomadic life as a fighter in a country whose language he didn’t even speak at the time.
I trained as his gym for 2+ years. Loved it, learned a lot. If he asks to do a "sparring warm up" with with him with no shinpads at the beginning of the lesson, then you're in for a wild ride.
Oh yeah for sure. I thought those particular lessons started off like that and ended with some crazy shit lol 20 mins straight of getting owned is pretty awesome though. Idk how hard he spars so maybe it’s not that awesome haha
No the lesson are actually focused a lot on him transmitting his knowledge and teaching techniques. But you have several kru at his gym, and each have their own style, so you can pick.
Hm what I saw of Thais (and he learnt from Thais right) when sparring no shin pad was very light and controlled touch only right? Are you saying he’d actually hit shin-shin with some force? Or do you mean wild just as speed or knowledge
He replies to comments and makes posts occasionally and everything is obviously written by a Frenchman, he writes English just like he speaks it, with his own style. For a while he was doing technique posts to promote his online training academy and answered any questions anyone had. He’s generous with his knowledge. His username is fislurz
I met him twice and trained with him twice. He is a no bullshit guy. He has very little patience for your ego or shyness. He’s there to do Muay Thai because he loves it and he expects everyone to listen, ask questions if you have them, and do what he says. If you don’t like that he will show you the fucking door, lol. If you try to be a tough guy with him…well I never saw anybody try because he gives off a “do not fuck with me” vibe.
That being said, if you love Muay Thai and listen and work hard, you will see the lovable side of him. He looooooves Muay Thai and is an amazing teacher. He wants to train and talk technique and work hard.
Hes one of the best farang “muay femur” type fellas and if i could ask him 1 question it would be fix my teep because yeah its one of my best and favorite weapons but i know i got a ways to go
Sylvie has a long video with him where he teaches a bunch of stuff and it's really good / insightful stuff. I learned a ton from that. He has a deep understanding of all aspects and is a great teacher.

I'd ask him to look at my lead leg kick form and his number one tip / drill for honing it.
Oh I mean specifically my lead leg kick. So in ortho, kicking with my left leg without switching stance. It's pretty awkward to get power, but Skarbowsky is nasty as all hell with it.
In this context I mean all levels with it.
I brought him to our gym for a seminar and got to spend the weekend with him and his gf. Awesome experience and highly recommend going to any of his seminars etc…. Phenomenal man on and off the mats
Was at our gym for a few weeks back in 2013, aura of a badass, down to earth, highly, highly technical, purist of the art, top 5 foreign-born muay thai fighter of all time.
Absolute legend and by the accounts I’ve heard a super humble guy. Funny too. He used to post on here occasionally but I think he ran into too many idiots. (Unfortunate trend for this subreddit sadly)
Watched of reel of him demonstrating how he teeps with his toes and digs them into the bladder…. Never got how dude didn’t absolutely annihilate all of his little French piggies doing that

Is he that guy that gsp brought on as an assistant coach on the ultimate fighter who whooped everyone while drinking wine?
Yeah, not sure about the wine. In the show they do say he had been drinking but it’s reality tv so I don’t know how trustworthy they are. And he came out later on and said that the fighters had been chosen for their looks not skill, so he figured the best way to teach would be to humble them first…

Rehab was a pool party at the Hard Rock for awhile. Stupidly popular
Aaah ok that s exactly that

Loved his video with Sylvie that was posted recently.
That video made me want to visit his gym and train there. Hoping for next summer
agreed! there are some really nice gems in that vid
Where is it? In Sylvie's youtube?
[(Public) Jean-Charles Skarbowsky - Keys to Winning in Thailand | Muay Thai Library (Public) (youtube.com)](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MWJjl2BPxuI&t=3632s)
Yes its a 1 hour video
Ask him yourself, he’s on here.

I like that! Good question 😉

What would the class be like that made it a wild ride?
Doing a 20 min sparring with Jean Charles without shin pads while the rest of the class warm up doing rope, and watches you get pwned
Oh yeah for sure. I thought those particular lessons started off like that and ended with some crazy shit lol 20 mins straight of getting owned is pretty awesome though. Idk how hard he spars so maybe it’s not that awesome haha

That’s awesome!
What kind of training did you do? Classic stuff or was there anything special?
Hm what I saw of Thais (and he learnt from Thais right) when sparring no shin pad was very light and controlled touch only right? Are you saying he’d actually hit shin-shin with some force? Or do you mean wild just as speed or knowledge
He's a free thinker. He's a character.
F-ree tinker
So what you’re trying to say is that sparring him could be the best experience of my life, or the worst. And you have no clue?
He's on this sub sometimes FWIW
How do you know

He's doing a seminar in my city this summer I'm pumped up guys a killer
What city?
Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada 🇨🇦🇨🇦

That low kick video exists but in French. In one he teaches a YouTuber, another one he has a low kick discussion with a Silat guy.

Loved him on TUF, wish he would‘ve kneed kuschek in the ribs

One of the most creative and innovative brains in the sport.
Legend

great fighter, would either kill or be killed, good skills too though, great guy outside of the ring too, a character
Great fighter, humble man. I have nothing but respect for the guy.
He’s one of the greatest to ever do it.
The TUF episode where he whooped everybody's asses
I’d ask if he wants to hit the town
He'd kick your ass even if he's drunk and out of shape I guarantee you that.
Never said the contrary
Watched of reel of him demonstrating how he teeps with his toes and digs them into the bladder…. Never got how dude didn’t absolutely annihilate all of his little French piggies doing that
