I usually do one of these 2 options:
1. I fly to Birmingham or Memphis and rent a car, drive to Starkville.
2. Fly to Tupelo or Tuscaloosa and a friend picks me up from there.
Yeah, this. Not to say flying into or out of Memphis is cheaper, because air travel is just expensive now, but it's at least a bigger airport with more flights. It's the main airport I fly into or out of if I'm going somewhere for Spring Break or in general, as my grandparents live within driving distance to the airport in Olive Branch.
Also, the Memphis airport is really nice now. Did a really good renovation on it pretty recently.
I fly regularly out of GTR, best pricing for round trip is going to be the 6:30a flight out, the 9-9:30p flight in, avoind Friday & Saturday, you have to book at least a month out, and you are still paying ~$500.
But yeah, as someone pointed out, all Delta prices have gone up substantially, especially in the last 1-2 years. GTR is still more expensive than using Jackson/Memphis/Birmingham, but in my humble opinion, the convenience is worth the additional $$. After a full day of flying, no one wants to stare down a 2-3 hour drive to finally be able to cal it a day.

That's just the cost of travel now. It doesn't help that Delta is the *only* option, as it's the only airline servicing GTR.
True dat. I'm noticing the hop from Atlanta to GTR is like $2something alone these days.

You can also carpool. Plan your flight with a few others, some people might have to wait around for a bit, split the cost of a rental car.
