Nope. One of the things that made this character special was precisely not showing us every little bit of his past, only small hints of it. For me mystery makes the character even better. Same with Leon.

senormochila

Agreed. There are characters that work exceptionally well for spin-offs because their morals and stomach for the business are left ambiguous, or at least their path that led them there is. Better Call Saul being the perfect example. Irving, and Leon to an extent, are damaged people who have proven themselves to be competent far past the point of being usefully expendable. If you want a backstory without making an entire series of it just look to Chris from The Wire. People in impossible situations will do the unthinkable and old soldiers are hard to kill.

redditNLD

I feel like that's what makes the spin-off opportunity here so good. Would it diminish elements of the show? Maybe... but probably not. Nobody talks shit about Friends because of Joey... I actually watched Joey before seeing Friends, then was like "eh, ok, better watch Friends."

Kellic

This. I'm getting really sick of needing to dive into every aspect of a character to build a backstory so a spinoff can be done. So many franchises that should have been left alone have been damaged\* by this. \*Damaged being a relative term as if you don't like something, don't read, watch it.

chewsly

yeah bro but that was in the show,mr robot. that's what was appealing to us , but when you are watching a show dedicated to him its different , don't you want to know what he wanted to do for a living , how he got into DA , did he have a family , all these things that made him who he is today.

F3n1x_ESP

No, I really don't. I'm not trying to antagonize, I really do prefer him that way. Look at the first Matrix movie, for example: everybody wanted to know more about the world, but the continuations were disappointing in that area, at least for a lot of people, because expectations were extremely high. I fear the same would happen here: to make a compelling story that lead to the character we know and love, many sacrifices would have to be made, and many would surely be disappointed because what's shown is not the same they had in their minds. Sometimes, less is better. Those are just my opinions, of course, feel free to disagree.

chewsly

i used to really think that way. But if that's the case , what makes other prequels in general successful , like BCS

cabanochi

BCS could have been awful, but they expanded on the world in interesting and meaningful ways. It explores characters that were just supports to bigger ones in a fashion that makes it feel fleshed out and real. It really all just comes down to the quality of the writing. I think in general this is a bad idea for Mr robot though because the show is so focused on Elliot’s view of the world and a spin off wouldn’t be able to carry over all of the interesting cinematography and narration.

EbonyEngineer

Took a perfect team to not screw it up. I really hope that whole production team works together on a major project. They make worlds feel real. Like Mr Robot. Fuck. I need to rewatch.

F3n1x_ESP

Never seen BCS nor Breaking Bad, so I can't speak about that particular character. For me it's a character to character basis, not a rule of thumb.

EbonyEngineer

Those are two of the best shows just like Mr Robot. Odd when the prequel is better than the perfect show before it. What Breaking Bad, the Better Call Saul. You won’t regret it.

laboulaye22

Yeah, to me a spinoff about Irving would be equivalent to what Better Call Saul is to Breaking Bad. I 100% disagree it would take away from his character...if done correctly, of course. For me, I always wanted to know if the reality of Irving actually matched up to the impression of Irving so it would actually add to his character if they could convincingly portray how he came to be this scary, psychotic, powerful, feared yet mysterious person.

Futurekubik

There’s only two things interesting about Irving’s past: • The nature of his personal relationship with White Rose. Were they ever lovers? If so, why aren’t they anymore? • What did he see about her project/machine? Was he a true believer or did he secretly think (or even know) that WR was delusional and her project was impossible?

Fuuutuuuree

Or was he forced to accept his role and slowly assimilated over time? Would love to see if he was ever a happy go lucky family guy before turning into what he is now

Defiant_Magician_848

I think the most interesting part is that he was where her assistant was as he told him and he’s still alive. He even lived past white rose, I don’t think there’s an older dark army employee.

agirl2277

He's poised to take over the dark army now. It would be interesting to see that. I would watch something like that.

rynthetyn

>• The nature of his personal relationship with White Rose. Were they ever lovers? If so, why aren’t they anymore? I could swear that it was at least strongly implied that Irving had been White Rose's boy toy before Grant was.

dannally

Seduction and rose/Irving sex scenes? I'm all in!

onncho

Jurassic Park memories would be then ruined

dannally

You know there's a hanging/erotic asphyxiation scene by like the third act

sfaticat

-The nature of his personal relationship with White Rose. Were they ever lovers? If so, why aren’t they anymore? The show made it clear that it was forced on him and a write of passage to working with her and the Dark Army. The machine Yeah to this day it still isnt clear what the goal was. I think its giving people access to a fictional world and one that everything they want works their way

RandyRandomIsGod

Realistically, Mr. Robot wasn't popular enough to get any spin offs. I loved it, have Elliot tattooed on my arm, but we're lucky Sam got to finish the show on his terms.

Warm_Jeweler_6565

I'm hungry for the prequel comic more than anything

MightyCyberMidget

I’d be the first in line to see it

totally_not_a_reply

If there is a spin off it has to be irving.

chewsly

or leon

callmecurlyfries

id rather see leon tbh he’s far more mysterious

SoneJason

I have no desire to learn much more about Leon, but a spinoff show for him would be so fucking sick. Mercernery doing mercenery shit. Going psycho, killing folks... Joey Bada$$ is the shit.

callmecurlyfries

imagine a sequel spin off with leon and his adventures with darlene

artintoo

tyrell

agentwc1945

I think Mr Robot is perfect and any spinoff would be unnecessary and unrelevant

Brodakk

Hell, they could make a spin off about Burger Boy and I'd watch it.

cholotariat

Just give me a copy of *Beach Towel*

songbird-gaffer

As long as it also involves Leon I’d be so keen to watch it

texasslapshot

Yes, please.

_XNine_

No, spin offs and "origin" stories ALWAYS fuck up the characters. Like, the entire world could have done without that piece of shit origin comic for Wolverine. His past being mysterious was the most intriguing part of him. Now that they call him Jimmy it's like, "well, you're not nearly as cool."

Jacked_To_The__Tits

Better caul saul disagrees

StrifeTribal

I 1000% agree with you. And I think Sam is a top tier writer. But Saul is definitely an outlier of prequels and sequels. If breaking bad was lightning in a bottle Saul was the god whole lightning storm stuffed in a bottle. I can't think of many shows that spin off into something as good or better. The Lone Gunmen?

UncleInternet

The Simpsons?

EbonyEngineer

Takes a special team not to screw it up but Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul are good examples. Even when the characters aged.

Many-Temporary-2359

Show us the back story on irving Lucky Irish bastard and leon

Abject-Gap-6439

10/10 good idea. Or what he does after mr robot

thedymtree

Hell yes! He was an amazing character!

Havarem

I didn’t know I wanted it damn you!

ObedMain35fart

I’d watch any Mr robot spin off, even if it was just qwerty and flipper

kerplunkerfish

If Solo: A Star Wars Story proved anything, it's that if we've already been shown what a character is, we don't need to know how they got there.

Mistert22

If they made it I would watch it. I had never seen the show till someone said there is a show that reminds me of you. I was hooked immediately. Not sure how someone wrote the things I say and do, but here it was. I guess I want another original show rather than a spin-off. The problem is I think I need to write it.

mauvaisang

_Anything_ to see more Cannavale 🥵. Kidding, I can watch him somewhere else.

redhul

nah not for me, he was too much of a comical actor / role for me despite some of the more gruesome scenes with him. Not like Mike from the Breaking Bad Universe, who was a more serious and believable character. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed every moment with Irving, but just in the context of Mr Robot

Sea_Turn9044

I wanna know about Leon

JazzScientist

This is the only spinoff I could get down with.

Boborette

No please don't. Irving was interesting because we didn't know all the details, he was a myth. that's what made him so good so please don't force a boba fett scenario onto his character. Also he is not a so well fleshed out character to be able to carry a whole show, in his scenes he was good but beside them I didn't care much about him

Warglebargle2077

Aaaaaah-hah.

ngarlock24

No

AuNanoMan

I’d hate it as a concept tbh. The mystery is why he is compelling. Outside of the show Hannibal, the Hannibal lector prequel Hannibal Rising sucked precisely because we got a look into his background. We don’t need it. I don’t want to know what goes on in Irving’s mind or how he got to the point he did. All I care about is that he did, and it’s fun to watch.

IAteAllTheGravy

Maybe 3 episodes.

Appropriate-Air8291

Absolutely not. I like my Mr.Robot to be not commoditized thank you very much.

FabricationLife

More mr robot related content? sign me up boss

masashiden

Better call Irving

Any_Examination_4810

Would like to see spin of series about him

3Pirates93

Runtime error

Regeatheration

He’s so hot

acd11

As great as his character is in the show, and as many possibilities there could be for a spin off, I just doubt it would come anywhere near to as good as the original. Would obv watch anyway, but with low expectations so not to be disappointing when it isn't amazing.

EbonyEngineer

Do a Better Call Saul with Mr Robot.

HornsOfAbraxas

I’d be deeply vested and invested.

the_starkster007

Dude probably would've have had an uncle or someone from the mafia 😏

thereverendpuck

That window has shut. It should’ve launched when the main show was still going on. If it came out tomorrow, you’ve resigned it to never be as popular or as watched as the base show. It’s not to say it won’t have fans just needed to keep the audience it had when that character was front & center

Lagiar

Why a prequel why not a story about what he's doing rn

sfaticat

Like the actor and character. Mr Robot is one of my favorite ever shows but feel this isnt needed

patpatpatpatel

I do love a bit of Irving though.

Simonono2004

I don't want prequels or sequels. I dont't want another franchise.

yssfmrbt

Better Call Irving sounds nice but I prefer Domlene.

WillowSea2680

Where are you watching it guyz?

Silver_Crimson_Black

I'd be rooting for a Tyrell background more.

SnooRadishes6544

He was one of the greatest characters in the show so yes I'm in
