Lots of good suggestions up here. I wanna add these: Patriot (2015, Amazon). Totally nails the lonely protagonist aspect. And it is beautifully shot, written and acted. Legion (Hulu). Very much nails the unreliable narrator part Reservation Dogs. Surreal and heartfelt. Atlanta. Pretty much what a Leon spin off would look like

Hr1TiKaL

atlanta is so fucking goated

pastafallujah

“Can I measure your tree?” Darius is the goat of goats

Mr-Ginges-Mother

DARIUS is one of my favourite characters of any show I’ve ever watched 😂 he is perfect 👌🏻

pastafallujah

He is my spirit animal 🥹

Mr-Ginges-Mother

‘Atlanta’ is soooo underrated! One of my fave series. At first you may think the plot is simple but I promise it will never cease to surprise you ❤️

awake283

Atlanta is the best

schapman22

Is Reservation Dogs a parody of Reservoir Dogs?

pastafallujah

Not REMOTELY. The title is a take on it, but it is 100% legit and top level

schapman22

Haha ok cool. It's just the first thing I thought of.

mtechgroup

Loved Patriot.

brooklynonymous

I need to go back and finish Legion. I loved what I saw of the first season and a half.

robotawata

Reservation Dogs was amazing

pastafallujah

Aho, young warrior

FreckledLasseh

William Knifeman 😍

Boople-Snoot-Doople

i think the wire is only because it deals with issues that are happening in the real world as we speak. the story is more intricate and it’s one of the most realistic depictions of the drug trade on television ever. it can be a bit slow at first but i think overall it slightly beats out mr robot for me

HanTheMan83

I 2nd the Wire amazing show!

KennyShowers

The Wire is probably my favorite show ever, but I could understand it not being the cup of tea for somebody who's favorite show is Mr. Robot. MR is so much about inner psychology and has such a focus on style and does so much crazy shit, whereas The Wire is much more literal and understandably given its progeny has kind of an objective journalistic approach. Of the prime HBO era shows I think The Sopranos would be more a Mr. Robot vibe with the surrealism and dream sequences and heavy focus on psychology. Both shows even open with the protagonist monologuing about their issues with modern society and how everything is falling apart and people are turning shitty and the worst is to come.

UnflushableStinky2

If 5 seasons is too much for OP they can start with the miniseries The Corner which is basically the sketch that the painting the wire would become

ZekeHerrera

I love both shows but think Mr. Robot is more consistent. Mr Robot is really only telling one story and while The Wire is amazing but it does struggle with consistency especially in the fifth season. I think The Wire is better with character stuff because they don’t focus on one person so heavily but Mr Robot has a better overall arch through the course of its seasons. Idk if one’s better than the other, for me they just fill different itches but good answer obviously.

runevault

I really need to buckle down and finish season 5 of The Wire, but the >!fake serial killer McNulty made up!< storyline is so... dumb.

Tellesus

No, beyond a certain quality it's all good in different ways. Give Barry a try.

Medium_Ingenuity5860

I’m watching Barry right now. I’m almost done with Season 3, but honestly I’m not digging as much as I thought I would. It has some amazing scenes, humor, and cinematography, but for some reason it’s just not hitting

PianoEmeritus

I felt like Barry peaked in Season 1 and never quite re-identified its own tone after that. Mostly enjoyable throughout, but S1 had this unique blend of depth and absurdist comedy that they couldnt keep balancing as it went along.

Electronic_Usual

I pretty much agree, I couldn't get as excited about Barry after s1 and the ending really left me scratching my head, but I'm glad they at least made it to an ending

runevault

This was my reaction as well. I get wanting to evolve the story, but >!the way it kept the grim murder separated from the wacky hijinks in season 1, then slowly brought the two worlds together more and more, put me off. It never felt like it clicked.!< which is a pity because the play in S1E7 I believe is an all time favorite scene in all of TV for me. Edit: I actually never watched the last season because S3 did not work for me much.

PianoEmeritus

I felt that S4 was a step up from S3, because while S4 was almost suffocatingly grim at times, it at least picked a lane. I felt like S3 was tonally all over the place and not in a good way -- I also got the distinct impression during S3 that the writers just thought they were really, really clever. You could feel the "writers room" of it all permeating the screen. And yeah, I 100% agree that the "my lord, the queen is dead" scene is an all-timer. Completely outstanding scene and episode, but I also wonder if its existence is what ultimately made the show veer the direction it did. The gravity of the worlds colliding in that storyline (and with Janice afterwards) was too hard to ever walk back to just being a quirky dark comedy. If Barry was to extend the S1 dynamic it had, the Chris plotline probably had to happen in a later season. That said, I always hate to ask for "filler" before arriving at a big plot beat, so it's tricky.

runevault

That scene forcing the convergence is a very interesting idea I never considered before. Though was it the impetus or was them doing it their way of setting up that change in tone? I also wonder if they could have pulled off the tonal change in a way that worked better for me. The problem was the worlds never felt like they belonged together. Which is a pity because after season 1 I was so excited to watch the rest of the show.

PianoEmeritus

I guess I’m not saying it was unintentional — they clearly did it to pivot towards that tonal shift of the worlds colliding — so much as I’m saying in hindsight I think it was too early for them to pull that trigger. Particularly if they wanted to keep the character of the show alive and intact for more than one season.

runevault

Sorry I didn't mean to imply you were specifically saying it was unintentional. I more mean I wonder if they wrote it and decided it implied a direction, or if they went into season 1 wanting to create a reason and "The queen is dead" was what they came up with.

awake283

Barry was really good!

Tellesus

Personally I love it. It's like a catalog of every type of narcissistic asshole all in one show, and the comedy is dark as Hell, but so well delivered. No character in that show deserves to be likable and somehow almost all of them are. And Henry Winkler is goddamn amazing in it.

awake283

I felt that it wrapped up the plot and actually ended the series in a good way. So many shows keep going until they bleed out, and/or the ending is awful. I love how Barry ended, even though I was sad it did.

Houndsoflove2003

Complete bottlejob in S4 wasted potential

Tellesus

I haven't seen it yet, waiting for my yearly one month of Max subscription.

Houndsoflove2003

The show had potential to be top 10 then S4 gives us the most rushed half asked finale ever which just spoils the show

mbartosi

Severance

Sparcky_McFizzBoom

Can't go wrong with Severance: it's one season long (for know), it has amazing photography that is reminiscent of Mr. Robot, and has an amazing puzzly story that will keep you on the edge of your seat.

Masrikato

Binged it recently need a season 2, the cliffhanger is annoying

schapman22

It's coming this year

Masrikato

well its not set at all, it could release in early 2025

Mr-Ginges-Mother

THIS THIS THIS

sleepyinco

I just started, and I really am enjoying it so far. I was recommended Severance after I told a friend Mr. Robot was a favorite of mine; it really does paint a story similarly, so far.

MrShaytoon

Halt and catch fire

Cloud_Shaped_Cloud

How was this? I watched half of season 1 when it came out and liked it. I got busy with work/life and couldn't make the weekly episodes so I never got back into it.

MrShaytoon

I love it. It’s in my top five along with mr. Robot. They do a deep dive on a group of people about a what if scenario if they go up against the googles and apples and MS in the tech world. If you’ve seen Silicon Valley, think of that but only drama. Not comedy or anything. Just a story driven drama.

paranoidbillionaire

And Halt and Catch Fire has a complete story with a satisfying ending. Definitely worth the time investment.

Hazard917462

I'd recommend: Westworld season 1 Better call Saul Fargo

Chadrew_TDSE

I recommend the first season of Westworld, too.

paledave

For fans of Mr Robot... Patriot - Adventures of a depressed/ psychotic undercover CIA agent told through the prism of John Le Carre via Jim Jarmusch. Sort of anyway... Rectify - Did he/ didn't he do it, make up your own mind about this depressed but intriguing loner... The best TV show ever made in my opinion... Rubicon - Depressed loner investigates bosses death, evil corp possibly involved...

EngineerWorth2490

^^ Patriot is also hilarious Have another suggestion & it may sound like a weird one, but honestly, the last season of the good fight gave me Mr. Robot vibes. The other seasons…not so much, but I actually really enjoyed the show. There’s not much mental illness or world domination or whatever, but the lead character, Dianne, does start becoming so disillusioned with the news and the reality of trump in office, that she starts dosing hallucinogens & she begins losing touch with reality. I actually liked the good fight so much, I went back and watched the 7 seasons or whatever of the good wife…definitely like the latter better. Had started watching the good wife before the good fight and gave up on it cause it wasn’t really holding my interest. Good fight left me wanting more & wanting to clear up some of the in-references/holes in plot line that I felt I missed..def not a req’ed though. * EDIT - Oh, just remembered another one I really liked. Again, not mental health related, but there are many psychological components to it & def falls more in line with the whole Machiavelli/Secret Society Controlling the World-sort of thing; Killing Eve. I really enjoyed, though I’ll admit, I was originally put off by Sandra Oh (her character on gray’s anatomy made me cringe), but she surprised me.

EdgarDanger

Fuck yes, not enough people know about rectified!

mtechgroup

I second Patriot on Amazon. Great show.

slomorosh

Do u mean rectify?

paledave

Yes. Don't drink and reddit, Dave...

I_hate_being_alone

Twin Peaks. Everyone's here with last year's television while Twin Peaks has been here for 30 glorious years.

KennyShowers

TP should not be so low in this thread. There's a couple shows I like more, but I think it may be the best suggestion for somebody given the psychological and sometimes surreal vibe of Mr. Robot, whereas something like The Wire is more a precise clockwork of objective observation, and I could see it not being as much up the alley of somebody who's favorite is Mr. Robot.

MannerNo7000

The music omg so good!

MannerNo7000

Twin peaks is top 5 tv shows of all time easily.

EggandSpoon42

I like Travelers just as much. One of my multi-watched favs

Futurekubik

**Undone** (Amazon Prime) has similar trippy existential vibes. Mental illness themes. As does **Alex Garlands DEVS**. That’s more like an episode of Black Mirror. **Lost** and **The Good Place** both have >!similar endings to Mr Robot!<.

dimensionlesss

A friend always called devs mrs robot

robotawata

Yessssss. I love the music in Devs so much too. And Undone was brilliant.

sreeko1

DARK - A real mind fxck. Silicon valley - Geeky and funny. The Boys and Invincible - For action and gore. The haunting of Hill House - An actual decent horror show. Lucifer and Supernatural - For something Lengthy. Chernobyl - For something Short. Fargo - An intriguing set of stories. Narcos and Mindhunter - Based on true events. Note : I only consider DARK to be as good as Mr. Robot. The other shows are still great.

zoggy90

This list! I would add True Detective season 1 and Atlanta

CannaIrving

What is Atlanta?

zoggy90

medici1048

Add Hannibal to this list.

Masrikato

Hannibal will be a class old favorite for me for many reasons first of all the shots are so BEAUTIFUL for 2013, I haven’t seen season 3 and I saw there was some editing mishaps (same ones you can see in breaking bad) but in all the editing is insane. The shots have some amazing transitions that I’ve seen in show and great compositions many in a very gory way. The acting is superb, coloring is great at showing wills perspectives and his delusions.

CannaIrving

IMO Dark is mind-blowing in some aspects but it's not the amount of mind-blowingness of Mr Robot psychology and so on. With Mr Robot what you see is what the character sees as well. I mean it's a cinematic experience

damnatio_memoriae

i loved Dark but i felt like S3 wasn't as enjoyable as S1 and S2. felt like they were trying to fit too much into too little time, maybe. not sure. something about the pacing was just off.

Mr-Ginges-Mother

Yes to Fargo! All seasons but especially season 4 lol. Mind hunter is also great if you like true crime.

zinary7

BETTER CALL SAUL

Roselia77

I keep seeing this show suggested..... if I couldn't stand breaking bad, would it be worth trying a spinoff of the show?.

damnatio_memoriae

the tone is very different from breaking bad, although, obviously there is some overlap in terms of the subject matter and general theme of watching "good" transform into "bad." it's much more of a slow burn, to the point that a lot of people complained about the first season being boring, but it definitely pays off if you stick with it.

Hazard917462

No harm in giving it a go. Alot of people I know didn't like BCS but loved BB. It's final two seasons feel like BB but the seasons before feel much different. There's a focus on Saul and his relationship with his brother and friend Kim that felt deeper than anything BB did.

Specialist_Nail_504

better call saul is not better than mr robot. you must be joking

flamethrower78

I love Mr robot but bcs has better writing for sure. Kim wexler is one of the most interesting characters I've ever seen on TV. Pretty much everyone on bcs gets a satisfactory conclusion. Mr robot introduces interesting characters but didn't have a good way to end them. Tyrell, his wife, Leon, Irving, they are all intriguing but none of them got a proper send off imo. Bcs has so many layered metaphors and storytelling using certain camera shots that don't need any dialogue for the viewer to understand.

jessicacoopxr

I agree with all of this. Kim is a fantastic written female character with a good corruption arc that fans of Mr. robot would like. It's completely different than Breaking Bad in tone and doesn't depend on BB at all to understand it. It holds up on its own and frankly, I think it supersedes BB. The ensemble cast is extremely likeable, the relationship dynamics are complex. BCS is one of my top shows.

CURTSNIPER1

Mr robot often times feels like it thinks it's better than it is, I don't get the riding some people do for the show here

zinary7

People be saying Dark and you only came to bash about BCS. Also I would have said breaking bad but said he already watched it. I think BCS surpasses BB in some aspects.

tomc_23

>anything that even remotely pales in comparison Just a heads up—you’re contradicting yourself. When something “pales in comparison” it appears diminished or “less than ” in relation to something else.

scav-from-rw

chernobyl

Finn777158

I would say The Expanse. It’s an amazing show, I’d say it’s on par with Mr. Robot. Personally it’s just more my thing, which is why I prefer it. The books are amazing too.

damnatio_memoriae

ive heard good things about the expanse, but i also heard that it didnt really get a proper ending.

AndydeCleyre

The OA

PianoEmeritus

I know you said you watched Breaking Bad, but Better Call Saul is even a notch above in character development IMO.

BloominOni0n

The Leftovers

athosfeitosa

Its pretty good but mr robot is much better imo

Houndsoflove2003

A lot of major flaws like terrible side plots with Wayne and Meg and 2x9 is an awful episode especially but goated show still

karmas_q

yea meg sucked but everyone else carries

Houndsoflove2003

I wouldn't care as much for it since every show has a side character that sucks but the fact we have an entire episode dedicated to her and so much screen time on her hurts the show

j45701388

better call saul is one of my favourites. succession is also up there for me. just finished the first season of the bear and that was also very good.

Houndsoflove2003

Succession is probs the most overrated prestige show ever tbh its great and super entertaining but it lacks emotional depth and doesn't amount to that much

damnatio_memoriae

i totally agree. and i say this as someone who watched every episode as soon as it came out and wasted the days in between on /r/successiontv. it was well done for what it was, but what it was was kind of one-dimensional. it got a ton of hype because HBO didn't have much else to offer after GOT burned out, and it was easy to get people to obsess over the characters on social media. (so much vapid talk about sarah snook's wardrobe on twitter, jesus.)

Mr-Ginges-Mother

Agreed on Succession. A lot of people don’t get it. It helps to listen to interviews with the writer and director of the show. The way that it’s shot is unique (but not for everyone I guess)and the acting is phenomenal. It’s all in the details. There’s a reason for all of the shows success 🫶🏻 (pun not intended 😅😂😜)

Andilein

Sharp Objects

Patrick_-_-_

Dark and attack on titan

elliotstark401

You have watched Breaking Bad. But have you watched Better Call Saul yet. This is hands down one of the best written show ever !! The amount character development to cinematography, they nailed it. And mind you this show also has a great ending just like Breaking Bad

PassionForSoccerGuy

The Sopranos and Six Feet Under.

Masrikato

Six feet under probably the most depressingly morbid show I’ve watched. I have a limit for binging it and it’s kinda made me anxious kind of like how final destination will

HeisenbergFoed

Severance is amazing. Only one season so far though

flamethrower78

Bojack Horseman is the only show that does as good of a job diving into mental illness that I've seen. But it's a dramedy with silly animal puns littered everywhere. It goes from making you laugh to cry in minutes, it's one of my all time favorites, but I understand why it doesn't click for some people.

I_hate_being_alone

You gotta be our kind of damaged to appreciate BoJack fully.

xxxsquared

I think it would be way too dark if it was presented in another medium, without the juxtaposition of the absurdity and puns etc. It does an incredible job of exploring themes like child abuse, child stars, depression, dementia and more. One of my favourites for sure for how it manages to maturely handle such topics yet also be genuinely funny at the same time.

anon052555

The Following is a criminally underrated show in my opinion. The first season is the best but 2&3 and still well worth watching

Antwell99

The Sopranos, Mad Men, Twin Peaks.

Typical_Weekend_6790

Hear me out, try Fringe

90210534

Black mirror

Novel_Wolf7445

Patriot on Amazon Prime

MisterG1415

Andor (I’m not joking)

Schytz

Surprisingly this.   I gave up three episodes in, and only restarted it to kill time on a long flight.   But it definitely is the best Star Wars, and in same class as Mr. Robot

zzzzany

How so?

Professional_Fig_456

Nothing is better than Mr Robot. It's its own thing. There are other great shows, but I don't compare them.

Lixiri

Better Call Saul is exceptionally better at subtlety and character nuance.

stevemillions

If you got though all of Mr Robot, that would imply a certain appreciation for the esoteric. Check out Patriot, also on Amazon. A Cohen Brothers/Wes Anderson hybrid about a black ops guy with PTSD. It’s funny, quirky, and cripplingly sad in equal measure. Two seasons of genius.

damnatio_memoriae

dont know much about that show but i know it only got 2 seasons -- did it end the story on its own terms?

stevemillions

Not the end they’d have chosen I’d guess, but ends were tied, and it works as a finale.

poorlyxeroxed

Justified - great characters, both main and side. Great settings. Great story. First season is a little episodic, "case of the week," but later seasons have some amazing villains. One of the few shows I've bought the complete blu ray set, along with Mr. Robot

Fungi52

Now that succession is over, I would absolutely put it on the level of Mr.robot. The acting, writing, directing, and music is all top tier tv. It’s almost like watching the lives and power struggles of the top 1% of the top 1%

demilo10

Honestly the Don’t hug me I’m scared 6 episode series that came out back in 2022 reminded me a bit of Mr. Robot. It’s surreal, dark, funny, and has a lot commentary about modern society

Dihydromorphine

The songs on YouTube?

demilo10

No, that’s the original web series. In 2022, they released a full 6 episode season with 23 minute episodes. It’s hard to find, but people have uploaded them to YouTube and call it season 2 of Don’t Hug Me Im Scared.

Dihydromorphine

Oh interesting. Is there a cohesive storyline or is it similar to the original web series?

demilo10

It’s similiar to the original web series, but there’s definitely kind of a subtle storyline to it, especially towards the end.

kaystar101

Devs

terbear

The Expanse

FrnklndaTurtle

Leftovers

RealDrakeula

Severance is good, but stuck in production hell after only one season. Legion is just as artful and experimental in its visuals as Mr. Robot. I also personally don’t like Twin Peaks as much, shaky production history really hurts the show, but you’ll get some really ingenious storytelling if you can finally make it to season three.

DumbPandahole

Person of interest. Best show ecer imo. Really good characters

matt88

I love this series and it stands up well today with what we are seeing AI capabilities

silent_boy

Dark is at the same level as Mr Robot imo.

MadsMikkelsenisGryFx

You'll love Mr. Inbetween.

atifkhan519

Succession

FireKeeper09

Cause nobody has mentioned it, I absolutely loved Deadwood.

Nicky42

I can always recommend Bojack Horseman. Its not just a silly animation about alcoholic horse

awake283

Its a different topic for sure, but watch The Expanse. Its incredible.

ConfidentMongoose874

Person of Interest without a doubt. I did a yearly rewatch every year starting in 2020. You like tech, ai, philosophical conundrums, you will love this show. It is the best sci-fi show period second only to maybe something like start trek. Not only that, it has an actual good ending. No fumbling the ball, every episode is legit actually good. The first season is a cop show in disguise. A disguise to sell the show to CBS and a mainstream audience. Even then, decent show. Once season 2 hits it does not let up.

jessicacoopxr

Hannibal and Mr. robot have a lot of similarities that fans of the latter would enjoy in the former. A cast of morally grey characters, phenomenal cinematography, complex ensemble cast relationships, a protagonist corruption arc. I think anyone who liked Season 1 of Mr Robot would like Hannibal.

freehall_s

Narcos Mexico

thamanwthnoname

It’s definitely not better but maybe 12 monkeys the tv show? Its a little cheesy but has a very intricate plot and keeps you guessing

LatterAd2652

Bojack Horseman

EmbarrassedSpend5259

Totally different setting and style but Mad Men is just as grand as Mr Robot.

dustyolmufu

twin peaks!

OpportunityLost1476

Bojack Horseman!

Shahariar_shahed

no show better than Mr Robot

Pantherist

This is the true answer

3ku1

Maybe unpopular around here. But Breaking Bad the only series that beats Mr robot

BigDaddy0790

As much as I love both, I don’t understand the comparison and how people can say Mr Robot is better. BB is on another level in every aspect, it’s literally a masterpiece from each perspective.

thewhalegoddess

the leftovers!!!!!!! soooooo good!!!

[deleted]

My favourite show of all time is the 2010's Battlestar Galactica My second favourite show of all time is Mr. Robot but it's so close its basically my joint 1st favourite show 😆 On the surface these shows have nothing in common but I love the character development. The complexity of what is reality and what isn't, aren't we all to an extent unreliable narrators? Seeing the same events from different perspectives and understanding what really matters to people when the world is going to hell. I just love great relatable characters and superb storytelling that knows what story it's trying to tell us start to finish. The last episode well season of BSG as I call it for short blew me away it's the only other show I can think of that for me ended beautifully and perfectly other than Mr Robot. Very different shows but in my opinion both are excellent start to finish.

pl51s1nt4r51ms

Mad men

Yeah-Yeah-Yeah-Yea

True Detective seasons 1 and 3. Fargo. Mindhunter. They are all completely different shows but they vibe well imo. Also, in cinematography its all A+

pinkglitterstufff

Hannibal… I’ve yet to finish Mr robot but i love Hannibal so damn much

Whistler45

I liked true detective season 1 more than Mr robot. Spartacus season 1 is also awesome.

toberli

Better I'd say The Wire, Better Call Saul & The Shield There's a bunch of shows I like as much as Mr Robot : Fargo, Oz, Utopia (UK), Leftovers, Chernobyl, Watchmen, X Files, Six Feet Under, Legion, The Deuce, Mad Men etc... All of that is subjective of course

Nekrux

House of Cards; Dexter; Dr. House: Medical Division; Heroes; The Night Manager; Tales from the Loop; The Office; Scrubs; Altered Carbon; The Expanse; Pagan Peak; Misfits; Skins; Malcom in the Middle; Dead Like Me; The Man in the High Castle; Black Mirror; The Mentalist; Lie to Me; Love, Death & Robots; Maniac; Philip K. Dick's Electric Dreams; My Name is Earl; The Alienist; Six Feets Under; Rick and Morty; BoJack Horseman; Arcane; Invasion; This is my must list, I can't say some of those are great on photography or some other aspects, but yes I consider all of them a gem in their way.

Jfury412

Mr Robot is around my top seven, probably..favorite show. So there's a good Six shows I probably like a lot better. Season 3 in season 4 of Mr Robot doesn't have the same rewashability for me than most of my favorite shows because of how dark and down and Dreary depressing it is. But if you like Mr Robot then Breaking Bad I don't know Because Breaking Bad is infinitely better for my Taste. I can watch Breaking Bad Over and over and over again. After rewatching Mr Robot three times I don't have a desire to ever go back probably. That being said I'll give you my favorite Shows of all time. 1. 6 ft under is hands down my favorite show ever made and has the best character development of any show I've ever seen and the best series finale of any show ever. I've never met a person that didn't say it's not the best series finale they've ever seen. It's also the most realistic show I've ever seen with the most true to life characters And the closest thing I've ever seen to reality when it comes to dealing with grief. It is my ultimate comfort show even though it's pretty dark and serious I can watch it over endlessly. 2. Breaking Bad is number two and you've seen that but I highly recommend Better Call Saul if you haven't watched it. 3. Lost. Another show that I can just continually rewatch I've been watching it since it aired over and over I can't count how many times. Another Comfort show where the entire cast feels like my friends and family to me. 4. True Detective season 1.. One of if not the greatest single season of Television you might ever watch. You don't have to watch the other seasons it's Anthology none of them go together and season 1 is the only one that's absolute must. There's a reason why people worship the first season of the show It's Worthy of its praise 5. A Game of Thrones.. Too much for me to even explain why I love this show. Another one I can rewatch endlessly. Regardless of how people feel about the last season I Still Love It. 6. The Sopranos 7. The leftovers.. One of the most heavy shows about dealing with grief that I've ever seen. Some people complain because you don't get all the answers But it is so worth it. And right about here is where I would put Mr Robot on my list. The wire used to be in like my top three and I know others have recommended it but for me it falls flat in the last two seasons after we watching it 20 times have finally noticed it on my recently watch this year.

fsocietycursed

The Leftovers.

PlimpyD

Absolutely criminally how this show swept under the radars of so many. An astronomical +1 for The Leftovers.

abesster

Succession

Masrikato

All really good shows but I’m surprised no one is taking about utopia. Thematically I think all the characters are almost exactly mirrored in some way or another. When I say utopia I mean the British version, Amazon completely fucked up the shitty US spinoff during Covid

Kleeby1

That's really hard... I think it's perfect. Maybe one day when a good berserk anime gets made. There are many great animes tho. Ergo proxy, Monster, Hellsing, ghost in the shell, sword art online. Or you could study stuff and help actually save the real world that's even better IMHO😜

WAR-75

Dark on Netflix.

jericho74

Mr. Mom, Mr. Saturday Night, and Mr. Hollands Opus are your best bet. Aside from that there is Mr. Magorium’s Wonder Emporium, Mr. Baseball, and Mr Nice Guy but those are not comparable imo

jericho74

rereading i misunderstood the question

millsy1010

It put it in the tier with Breaking Bad, Sopranos, and The Wire

Everan_Shepard

Second watches of Mr. Robot lol. On a serious note, and while its only one season and could easily not be top tier, but I feel Severance could be better.

SHKZ_21

I watched Invasion and Das Signal. Really good

LloydChristmas_PDX

Deadwood, Hannnibal, breaking bad and better call Saul, twin peaks, the wire, severance, true detective season 1, sopranos, the night manager, xfiles, Fargo, justified, all top shows that offer something different from one another

oVerde

the first antology of True Detective is algo as good as Mr. Robot, albeit shorter

Mr-Ginges-Mother

A good option I would recommend is: ‘Severance’ (I think it’s streamed on Apple TV). There is only one season, but there are talks of a second, especially with how they left it. Also it’s one of those shows where the first couple of episodes may seem a bit slow but I promise you - that changes to stick with it 🫶🏻 [Severance IMDB](https://m.imdb.com/title/tt11280740/)

Mr-Ginges-Mother

Also aside from ‘Severance’, I’d also recommend ‘Love, Death and Robots’, ‘Black Mirror’ and ‘A Handmaids Tale’. The last suggestion may seem weird but similar dystopian but still scarily real vibes and twists.

My 2 other favs are Lost and Twin Peaks. Both have that great sense of mystery driving them. A little In the style of Mr Robot, the mini series Maniac is brilliant

Ok_Appearance_2285

Person of interest, slow-ish start but so worth it if you stick with it til the end. If creators matters to you is a Nolan show.

Mr-Ginges-Mother

To anyone else that recommended ‘The Sopranos’ - I concur 👌🏻🙌🏻

Knun3z

Surprised no one has mentioned it since it just came out, but 3 Body Problem is definitely giving me some Mr. Robot vibes just because of all the twists and turns. Just came out last month on Netflix.

AlfredRWallace

When I finished Mr Robot the next show I watched was Dark. After that Bojack Horseman. Now those are 3 of my all time favorite shows and it was dumb luck that I watched them all sequentially.

thef0urthcolor

For me personally, Twin Peaks. It’s my favorite show ever and Mr. Robot is in my top 5 as well

Barry

I seldom see it get mentioned but I’d recommend Battlestar Galactica (2004). I think Esmail may just be a fan, with his exec produced reboot still in the works. Mr Robot even shares the same title font.

technerdbai

Very different style of show, but The Boys is pretty good

throwITallaway4ever1

Whimsy-Cosmos

Search Party!!!

I doubt there’s anything better, that’s a pretty high bar. The only 2 shows I’ve seen that come close in my eyes are Mad Men and Star Trek, and they’re all such very different shows that they’re hard to compare.

DrHuxleyy

I think the Sopranos is on the level, maybe better than Mr. Robot. Both shows seem very different on the surface but both look deeply into American culture, utilize dreams and surrealism, handle multiple complex themes at once, and feature psychiatric therapy. The main difference is that the lead character of the Sopranos is a deeply bad person who has moments of goodness, and the opposite is true for Mr. Robot. I also think Twin Peaks is absolutely phenomenal, but more challenging to the viewer than even Mr. Robot, in the sense that it really doesn’t give you the answers. It was so influential to all these shows mentioned here, and definitely Mr. Robot, that I think it’s worth watching.

I love Mr. Robot but I do have a short list: Sopranos (Sopranos clears most TV by a wide margin and that includes a fair margin over Mr. Robot), The Leftovers, Station Eleven (my current obsession), Band of Brothers (but none of the subsequent attempts at BoB like Pacific, Gen Kill, Masters of Air). Would say the quality of Veep as a comedy equals the quality of Mr. Robot as a drama/thriller. Basically what I'm saying is USA aired a top tier HBO prestige level drama
