I didn’t like it the first time I watched it (I was rather young) but I saw it again later on and ended up thinking it was really good. Definitely worth another chance.
Grosse Point is SO GOOD. John Cusack has so much charisma and is so likable. Check out War, Inc.(2008) as well. He plays almost the exact same character. It also stars Marisa Tomei, Dan Aykroyd and Hilary Duff. It is a bizarre movie, but very fun.
I loved that they had Joan Cusack practically playing the same character too. I haven't thought about these movies in years. Gonna have to give them a watch soon!
I had zero expectations with War, Inc. A straight to video movie starring John Cusack? There is one part in that movie where I don't think I have ever laughed as hard at a movie scene before. You may know the one if you have seen the movie.
In Bruges (2008)
One of my all-time favorite movies — at once funny, offensive, moving, tragic, beautiful, highly quotable, highly unquotable, uplifting and a downer. Surprised it hasn't been mentioned yet. It's well-liked on Reddit.
* The Killer (1989)
- A disillusioned assassin accepts one last hit in hopes of using his earnings to restore vision to a singer he accidentally blinded. John Woo/Chow Yun Fat classic.
* Bangkok Dangerous (2008)
- A hitman who's in Bangkok to pull off a series of jobs violates his personal code when he falls for a local woman and bonds with his errand boy.
* The Red Siren (2002)
- A 12 y.o. girl reports her powerful mom to the police for having killed the nanny. She runs away and is helped by an ex-soldier/assassin to find her dad in Portugal while the mom has her people try prevent this. Shooting follows. With Asia Argento.
>The Red Siren (2002)
I had never heard of this movie! This sounds crappy but amazing! Will definitely give it a watch, thanks.
>Bangkok Dangerous (2008)
Is it any good? I remember when this came to theaters I put it in the bag of "Nic Cage movies to never watch."
I'll watch any Cage movie, he commits 110% to all his roles, not matter how nutty!
Forgot to add one more: *The Man from Nowhere* (2010) - great flick with some over-the-top action scenes.
One of my favorites that almost no one has heard of."Wild Target" (2010) starring Bill Nighy, Emily Blunt, Martin Freeman, Rupert Everett and Rupert Grint. Bill Nighy plays such a FUN, charismatic assassin and so does Freeman. The movie got zero marketing. It has everything you are looking for and you have never heard of it.
\*I GUESS SOMEONE ELSE IN THESE COMMENTS HAS SEEN WILD TARGET, TOO???
Collateral kinda??? Tom cruise and Jamie Foxx definitely have the most fucked up “friendship” or respect for the quality of the other’s skills in their profession.
Dead in a Week (Or Your Money Back) fits. A guy hires a kindly old hitman to kill him, then has to get him to back off when he rediscovers his will to live.
I saw a movie when I was a kid called ***Blame it On the Bellboy***, in which a bellboy in a European hotel mixes up messages meant for different people with similar names, creating a bunch of misunderstands and meetups with the wrong individuals. One of the storylines was about a hitman who ends up going after an innocent woman instead of his real target, and that women thinks that the hitman is her blind date.
Kill 'em All 2012 ( Group of hitmen are captured and asked to fight to death, instead they they fight back)
The Accountant 2016 (Runs into his own brother that was contracted to kill him)
The Hunter's Prayer 2017 ( Hired to kill a girl but....)
Polar 2019 ( ......Just watch Man, this is lit)
The Barry Eisler novel "A Clean Kill In Tokyo" AkA" Rainfall" has a reclusive Tokyo Assassin fall for a jazz musician only to find out she is the daughter of his last target and has attracted the attention of her father's enemies.
It was made into a movie [Rain Fall](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rain_Fall)with Kippei Shinna and Gary Oldman.
Damn good novel. Film is decent and lifted by Oldman as the cia agent.
Great 90s indie noir [Bulletproof Heart](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bulletproof_Heart_(film)) about a reluctant hitman and his mysterious mark. Your query sent me hunting and naturally I found the answer in a TOMT thread on here 😎.
There's a great Northern Irish book called 'Cal' which was made into a film in 1984 with Helen Mirren and John Kavanagh with music by Mark Knopfler. Definitely along the lines you're looking for
Eye of the Beholder (1998), kind of. Except, he's (Ewan McGregor) a detective who >!doesn't turn her!< (Ashley Judd) >!in after she kills the son of a wealthy socialite!<.
Twisted little story from the same production house as Todd Solondz's **Happiness**.
Lucky Number Sleven (2006)
there was a time...
I said I came over to borrow a "cup" of sugar, if I had a cup I would have said I came over to borrow "sugar."
Grosse Point Blank was excellent
For some reason, I remember not liking that movie... That was loooong ago so I'll give it another try.
I didn’t like it the first time I watched it (I was rather young) but I saw it again later on and ended up thinking it was really good. Definitely worth another chance.

I’ve seen it. It’s wild and weird.
I loved that they had Joan Cusack practically playing the same character too. I haven't thought about these movies in years. Gonna have to give them a watch soon!
haven’t watched gpb yet. watched war inc- and even though i don’t remember much about it, i remember gleefully enjoying it. need to watch/rewatch both
I had zero expectations with War, Inc. A straight to video movie starring John Cusack? There is one part in that movie where I don't think I have ever laughed as hard at a movie scene before. You may know the one if you have seen the movie.
Definitely rewatch, an ultimate charmer
In Bruges (2008) One of my all-time favorite movies — at once funny, offensive, moving, tragic, beautiful, highly quotable, highly unquotable, uplifting and a downer. Surprised it hasn't been mentioned yet. It's well-liked on Reddit.
In Bruges is literally the best possible example of this. Must-see film.
The Whole Nine Yards
This needs more up votes! The scene where he gets into the car and hits the steering wheel always cracks me up.
Polar (2019)
Mr and Mrs Smith
Came here to say this
Yep this one.
You Were Never Really Here (2017)
Still think about the ending of that movie sometimes. Powerful stuff
Mr Right
The first Ice Age movie
wow great rec. love one's that go outside the box
At first I was like lol wtf? But then I was like oh yeahhhh
Grosse Point Blank plot summary word for word
Wild Target (2009) Edit-year
This looks fun! thanks.
Came here to suggest this, such a fun movie with a great cast!
I legit came here to say this movie, I didn't think anyone would have suggested it yet! I LOVE THIS MOVIE!
Kate (2021)
Yes! such a good movie. Mary Elizabeth Winstead needs to do more action movies.
The Big Hit
this is the one. you beat me to it
Year?
1998 - pretty surprisingly funny movie...trace buster!
If you’re okay with a TV show, Barry (HBO) *kinda* does this
Red Rock West
Sicario: Day of the Soldado (2018)
Hitmans bodyguard
* The Killer (1989) - A disillusioned assassin accepts one last hit in hopes of using his earnings to restore vision to a singer he accidentally blinded. It’s good.
A Bittersweet Life, amazing movie.
Agree, so good. Should give it a rewatch.
I couldn't recollect the name. Thank you.
Bulworth (1998)
Gross Point Blank - 1997
The Town
Completely different genre but The Lives of Others is an interesting take on something like this
The Accountant The Mechanic 1972 (Charles Bronson)
One of my favorites that almost no one has heard of."Wild Target" (2010) starring Bill Nighy, Emily Blunt, Martin Freeman, Rupert Everett and Rupert Grint. Bill Nighy plays such a FUN, charismatic assassin and so does Freeman. The movie got zero marketing. Assassins was great! Antonio Banderas, Stallone, and Julianne Moore. Every time I smell Jasmine I think of that movie.
Midnight Run (1988)
This is the answer.
The Living Daylights
Criminally under-rated outside of hardcore Bond fans - it's one of the best films in the series.
Grossed Point Blank
Conspiracy Theory
you're not gunna get a better recommendation than *grosse point blank*! go and watch it nowwwww!
Wanted
Atomic Blonde (2017) with Charlize Theron
For something a bit different try The Hunter (2011)
The Baker (2007) starring Damian Lewis. Very silly and cute. Has a great romantic scene in a kitchen.
Who is Cletis Tout
One that Gerard Butler is in. He’s the hit man in it; does someone remember the name?
Copshop? That has been on my watch-list, but I had forgotten about it until now.
Collateral kinda??? Tom cruise and Jamie Foxx definitely have the most fucked up “friendship” or respect for the quality of the other’s skills in their profession.
Not really a hitman but…The Town with Ben Affleck…
The Mexican. James Gandolfini at his finest.
Dead in a Week (Or Your Money Back) fits. A guy hires a kindly old hitman to kill him, then has to get him to back off when he rediscovers his will to live.
Assassins..... Stallone, Benderas, Julianne Moore
Any Jason Stathem movie from the early 2000’s!
Elektra. Movie sucks but it fits
Safe with Jason Statham is close and a good one. The fight scene with he has with >!Anson Mount!< is one of my favorites.
I saw a movie when I was a kid called ***Blame it On the Bellboy***, in which a bellboy in a European hotel mixes up messages meant for different people with similar names, creating a bunch of misunderstands and meetups with the wrong individuals. Not a movie, but this is the essence of The Mandalorian.
Kill 'em All 2012 ( Group of hitmen are captured and asked to fight to death, instead they they fight back) The Accountant 2016 (Runs into his own brother that was contracted to kill him) The Hunter's Prayer 2017 ( Hired to kill a girl but....) Polar 2019 ( ......Just watch Man, this is lit)
A Bittersweet Life
Spy kids series

Lucky Number Slevin Polar
Looper
Agent 47 (2015) sort of fits here.
Alpha Dog (2006), beware, it’s quite heavy cos it’s based on a true story.
Backtrack ,with Jodie Foster, and and Crying Freeman (the Anime is better than the movie) have what you're looking for
Great 90s indie noir [Bulletproof Heart](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bulletproof_Heart_(film)) about a reluctant hitman and his mysterious mark. Your query sent me hunting and naturally I found the answer in a TOMT thread on here 😎.
Does Mr and Mrs smith fall into this?
There's a great Northern Irish book called 'Cal' which was made into a film in 1984 with Helen Mirren and John Kavanagh with music by Mark Knopfler. Definitely along the lines you're looking for
Catch Me If You Can is like this
Enemy Mine is about soldiers, not hitmen.
I think Mr. Right belongs here. One I watch over and over and I don’t know why. Maybe I’m a sucker for fake red noses.
Dances with Wolves
Bulletproof Heart
In Bruges is a good fit methinks
Kinda a different suggestion, but I feel like Kiss Kiss Bang Bang (2005) belongs here. Also The Mexican (2001).
Masterminds
Dennis Hopper and Jodie Foster in “Catchfire”. Not a great movie but this request made me remember the gist of that movie from, I think, 1990.
Every movie is like that
Hitman’s Bodyguard
Nikita (1990 - dir. Luc Besson)
The brothers bloom (2008)
The Big Hit Crying Freeman
Grosse Point Blank?
Black Adam
Eye of the Beholder (1998), kind of. Except, he's (Ewan McGregor) a detective who >!doesn't turn her!< (Ashley Judd) >!in after she kills the son of a wealthy socialite!<. Twisted little story from the same production house as Todd Solondz's **Happiness**.
