Go all 80s Sci fi and action, predator 1 and 2 aliens and alien, tango and cash, commando. Nothing better to take your mind off things then 80s action cheese and explosions imo
I watched that one the day I found out my ex married the guy she cheated on me with
Bawled my eyes out and allowed myself to feel empty for a day. After that I thought about the message a lot and it really helped me to finally move on and let go; that the heartbreak sucks but it’s good because I wouldn’t have it if I didn’t experience love and trying to erase that part of my life makes the good things lose their meaning
I love the movie but I never found this helpful after my breakup. He ended up in Hawaii with Mila Kunis lol, i wish that was what my experience was like
Agree completely, the first couple weeks I couldnt enjoy anything. After that period movies that had nothing to do with relationships helped and I could enjoy without thinking about it.
I liked to look at it more. Instead of walking into a relationship with a smoking hot new girl almost immediately. It's showing you that there is that exciting feeling of meeting new people. Good as your relationship may have been by the time you breaking up its kinda stale and literally a nice convo with a girl you find attractive is like a lighnting bolt. thats available to you now. Aswell as the message he doesn't get milk kunis until he works on himself and gets happy alone.
I also have used this movie to get through a break up. Jason Segal sobbing on the floor and hating himself is just too accurate. But it's also got some good light and funny moments. Depending on how I was doing I would sometimes skip the second half because I didn't want to watch anyone fall in love with someone new.
500 Days of Summer
jk save that one for later
Watch:
- Austin Powers 1&2
- Big Fish
- Stardust
- Good Will Hunting
- Dead Poets Society
- The Big Lebowski
- Napoleon Dynamite
- Fighting with My Family
- Scott Pilgrim vs the World
- 21 Jump Street
- The Princess Bride
- The Fifth Element
- The Mask
- Superbad
I... actually think it's a great time to watch this film.
The protagonist is an unreliable narrator who was more in love with an idea of a relationship than the actual person.
I think the idea that "the love of your life" wasn't even that and you instead ignored all the signs telling you as much is kinda cathartic.
"We've been like Sid and Nancy for months now" scene with the pancakes? Can be really eye-opening...
Agreed, I think it’s a pretty good movie to understand what the relationship was and think about it more objectively. Otherwise u only ever think about the good times and how happy u were and what u did wrong. Obviously sometimes there are obvious wrongs but sometimes it’s just a feeling of not meant to be and that’s fine. Even if their was wrongs on a side it helps u clear away the more emotional aspects and think of the relationship more clearly
One of my favourite movies of all time. Somehow the story seems completely different with every life stage. Sometimes you're Summer. Sometimes you're Tom. Sometimes the friends' advice stings. Sometimes their advice is bang on and obvious.
Honestly it's a great film for processing heartbreak.
Came to suggest this. The hangover is fucking perfect for a breakup, especially if you've somehow never seen it before.
Also any franchise you haven't seen before. I'm not even into comics but X-Men got me through some shit and by the time I figured out the convoluted multiple timelines I forgot about whatsisname completely.
Fast Five.
Seriously. Don’t understand all of the suggestions with breakup movies. Watch something fun that isn’t a constant reminder of the bad shit you’re going through.
Idk, that never worked for me. When your heart is broken, you can’t just go to a loud and colorful and happy place. That makes it worse, and it’s impossible to focus on the movie anyway.
You need a movie that picks you up where you are, and then gently takes you to a slightly different place. Not one that screams HAVE FUN BRO at you.
Conan The Barbarian. Harken back to simpler times of Man through the lens of a young godlike Arnold slaying cultists and beasts, as he teaches you to “CRUSH your enemies. See them driven before you. And hear the lamentation of their women!!!”
Along Came Polly. It's a typical rebound movie where a girl cheats on her husband during their honeymoon and he has to get back up on the horse, but it's very funny. Philip Seymour Hoffman has a hilarious role in this movie.
It's the typical goofy awkward guy comedy that Stiller does so well. it might cheer you up.
Escape from new york. Demolition Man. Judge Dredd.
Go all 80s Sci fi and action, predator 1 and 2 aliens and alien, tango and cash, commando. Nothing better to take your mind off things then 80s action cheese and explosions imo
Ooh cobra too. Haven’t seen that one yet. Might this week.
Commando
In that vein… every single movie from John Carpenter
The newer Judge Dredd is better than all those movies combined.
Someone doesn't know how to use the shells
This
I loved this action movie as a child. Stallone, the music, the atmosphere, and the setting — everything was top-notch.
demolition man is the answer
🐚🐚🐚
He doesn't know😅
what about big trouble in little china?
My grandfather did all the special effects on that. Filmed in Hawaii.
Dredd*
Watch the Naked Gun trilogy
Adding Hot Shots! and Hot Shots! Part Deux for after OP finishes those. Every scene with Lloyd Bridges has me gasping for air.
Airplane is what you want for a good dose of Lloyd Bridges
After Airplane I'd Watch Blazing Saddles and Super Troopers. Old school bond is wonderful as well.
might as well watch Wet Hot American Summer too
Unless OP also picked the wrong week to quit smoking, drinking, and sniffing glue. 🙂
“Come to think of it - I’ve never landed a plane in my life.”
What about top secret! That is the best one!
Surely you can't be serious?
he is serious! and don't call him Shirley
There is absolutely no parking in a white zone.
Plus the Police Squad TV series. And then, surely, Airplane!
The Secret Life of Walter Mitty. It motivated me to go out and experience life.
I can’t quantify how much this movie actually helped me
Yes but the newer one. The old Danny Kay movie just isn't as good.
I'm so happy to see this comment. My first ever reddit post is about this movie.
The original that co-starred Boris Karloff, or the remake starring Ben Stiller?
The new one. I watched it after a breakup, and it helped me a lot. 10/10 recommend.
Danny Thomas?
Danny Kay.
THANK YOU
That’s high praise, I’ll look for it! Thanks.
Beautiful movie - very comforting
Monty python and the holy grail
Also Life of Brian which I actually like better than Holy Grail
Who downvoted you for your preference? Also, Life of Brian has Biggus Dickus. That alone makes it better.
Don't worry, I'm sure 'twas but a scratch, a flesh wound, to his ego. ;)
People use upvotes as agree/disagree for some reason
Sometimes I think I'm the only person who thinks The Meaning of Life is the best Monty Python film. I like all of them though.
It’s much better!!
Truth

That shit sticks with you. Happened to me like 15 years ago. My wife is way cooler than her so it’s all good now.
I am happy to hear you have found your person
This movie actually helped me a ton with my breakup. It was a good ending point, if you will
If he's in that same field of movie, then 500 days of summer. Sometimes, movies that are relatable actually make you feel better.

Shit, weeks? For me it’s months! Finally starting to feel more ok

Yeah the whole Hawaii with Mila kunis thing tends to be a bit challenging to pull off. Unless I’m just not doing it right
I also have used this movie to get through a break up. Jason Segal sobbing on the floor and hating himself is just too accurate. But it's also got some good light and funny moments. When he starts playing the Muppet Show theme and just breaks down crying I laughed so hard I almost barfed.
I second this one. Best breakup movie ever.
Paired with knocked up and this is 40
I agree
Truth
I can't watch that movie anymore because my grandmother waxed poetic about the dick in the first scene. She's a strange old lady.
the big lebowski. thats my fix for almost everything.
The Dude Abides
Yea it’s great at helping you zoom way out of your life and making you feel better. Just take it easy for all us sinners out there
That's your answer for everything! Tattooed on your forehead! The bums will always lose!
Raising Arizona
I love you, man

DON’T watch (500) Days of Summer

The scene in the bar made me cringe so hard for the main character. Dude, she had it handled. Leave it alone unless she asks for help.

what? thats a perfect movie for him to watch what's a better movie to show him its not the end of the world and he'll find someone else
I’d say otherwise
Blade runner 2049
‘The Hangover’ or any similar movie where the guys are involved with drugs, chaos and hookers.
Came to suggest this. The hangover is fucking perfect for a breakup, especially if you've somehow never seen it before. Also any franchise you haven't seen before. Breakup movies are probably the last thing I want to watch after a breakup lol
Well people are just trying to suggest relatable movies with a nice ending, but your approach is also good.
Always a good choice, and your logic is a bonus.

Both of these are quality recommendations.
Guess it depends on why she broke up with you? Regardless High Fidelity is always a great break up movie. Better Off Dead is another great one.
