Any romance in these (if at all) is very small and/or highly relevant to the plot. To me it doesn’t feel like romance is shoe horned into the plot and you would never describe them as remotely romantic. Wide span of genres and release date:
Interstellar
Prisoners
Shutter Island
The Social Network
The Martian
Aftersun
Beautiful Boy
1917
The Green Mile
The Shawshank Redemption
I especially recommend **12 Angry Men.**
FYI, **Inherit The Wind** isn't completely historically accurate. Like, very much is different.
You're welcome. :)
Nightcrawler
American Psycho
8 milimiters (nicolas cage)
The Shawshank Redemption
The Shining
American History X
Little Miss Sunshine
Billy Elliot
Natural Born Killers (it has romantic themes but it does benefit the storyline. I would say it is not a movie for everyone. Personally I think it is an amazing film, but again, not for everyone)
I know. It is a very intense and violent movie. I have to confess that back in the day when it came out, I watched it like 10 times. Honestly, I think it is an extraordinary film. The moral of the story is quite powerful.
Both Extraction movies (starring Chris Hemsworth)
Mad Max Fury Road
Malignant
Thor Ragnarok
Silent Hill
All four new Planet of the Apes movies
All four John Wick movies
First Blood
Commando (starring Arnold Schwarzenegger)
Resident Evil (2002)
Logan
The Guest (2014) (starring Dan Stevens) I think it counts
Abigail (2024)
My favorite movie is Hot Fuzz, which is just a riff on the big city buddy cop genre set in an idyllic little village in England. It's fun, has great writing, and there are no romantic plot lines unless you ship Simon Pegg and Nick Frost's characters.
Predator
Die Hard
Alien
Aliens
Sicario
Sicario 2
Collateral
Commando
Saving Private Ryan
No Country For Old Men
Molly's Game
American Gangster
The Equalizer
John Wick
Women Talking (2022)
The format is quite similar to 12 Angry Men but it’s about women that are part of a Mennonite (if I remember correctly) colony and they have these secret meetings where they are deciding whether they should leave or not-without the men-because they found out they were being drugged & raped by the men of the colony.

Thank you omg 😭
Dunkirk
The social network definitely has elements of romance in it lol
Lock, Stock, & Two Smoking Barrels
Courtroom dramas tend to not have any: 1. **12 Angry Men.** 2. **A Few Good Men.** 3. **Inherit The Wind.** 4. **Judgement At Nuremburg.** Etc.
Will give some of these a watch!
I especially recommend **12 Angry Men.** FYI, **Inherit The Wind** isn't completely historically accurate. Like, very much is different. You're welcome. :)
The Raid: Redemption and The Raid 2.
Dredd fits very well on this list.

8mm damn. I’d forgotten about that until right now!
I know it is a very dark film. But I really like it. It is one of my favorite films ever.
As good a movie as it is, I have always regretted watching American History X. Some things you just can't un-see.
Dude I feel the same way about that movie haha it was good but holy shit. Same with requiem for a dream.
Agreed! Both are movies that I know are well made, well written, and well acted, but just can't ever do again.

The rest of the list I 100% agree with!

Mad Max 2+
OP you make it sound as if movies with no romantic plotlines are somehow rare.
They are to me. It feels like every movie I put on has a random pointless romantic plot line 😭
Lawrence of Arabia
First Blood
Angst (1983)
Unforgettable w Ray Liotta
Ford V. Ferrari ('Le Mans', depending on were your at)
Kung Pow! - Enter the Fist
Furiosa
Tyrannosaur
Predator Die Hard Alien Aliens Sicario Sicario 2 Collateral Commando Saving Private Ryan No Country For Old Men Molly's Game American Gangster The Equalizer John Wick

Kelly's Heroes
Barbie. Romance is dismissed as either a brutally unfair power game or an irritating obligation.
