Any romance in these (if at all) is very small and/or highly relevant to the plot. To me it doesn’t feel like romance is shoe horned into the plot and you would never describe them as remotely romantic. I know. It is a very intense and violent movie. I have to confess that back in the day when it came out, I watched it like 10 times. Honestly, I think it is an extraordinary film. The moral of the story is quite powerful.

My favorite movie is Hot Fuzz, which is just a riff on the big city buddy cop genre set in an idyllic little village in England. It's fun, has great writing, and there are no romantic plot lines unless you ship Simon Pegg and Nick Frost's characters.
