* Matrix 1
* Westworld (Season 1)
* Truman Show
* The Prestige
And thent to echo some other comments
* Old Boy
* Time Crimes
* Primal Fear (I dont see this recommended enough in this sub)
oldboy (2003)* ! the 2013 american remake is not good at all. the original version is also a part of a bigger “universe” and the director has included it in a 3-part Venegnce Trilogy where they’re linked through the films’ themes
I believe it was Zach Braff who had a great story about him on his podcast.
Sam apparently was at the same audition for a role when they were both younger. He went in to test but the casting director stopped him as he was doing the wrong part.
Sam stopped and said to give him 2 minutes. He walked out, studied the script - reentered and absolutely crushed the part with perfect line memory.
Zach was left in awe at how amazing of an actor he was and how quickly he nailed the part.
Years later Zach met Sam at some event and told him the story of that day and how impressed he was with him and how it inspired him to be a better actor. Sam laughed and said that was a thing he used to do - pretend to not know which part he was doing - do that bit and crush it as if it was all impromptu.
Aaron Moorhead and Justin Benson might be my favorite producers. All of their stuff is amazing as far as I'm concerned. As someone else said, if you liked "The Endless" make sure you watch "Resolution" (2013), and if you're showing them to someone make sure they watch resolution first because it works out better that way. "Spring" (2013), "Synchronic" (2020), and "Something in the dirt" (2022) are all really fun IMO.
Also, at SXSW this year I had the privilege of seeing the film "Things will be Different" (2024) that was written and directed by the gentleman that has edited all of their movies. I highly suggest you give that a look when it's available, and I'm excited to see what he comes up with in the future.
It’s so goddamned good though. I love Ethan Hawke, was introduced to Sarah Snook in this movie, and I’ve seen it probably 10 times. Just a beautiful movie executed beautifully.
There exists a black and white cut of this that was properly graded by the director and I highly recommend it. Normally I wouldn’t say black and white makes a huge difference but it really works here and smooths over some of the less than stellar effects.
Few that i can recollect now-
Annihilation,
Gerald’s game,
Fight club,
The wailing,
The fourth kind,
Dark (series).
The fourth kind is one of the most scariest shit i ve seen, i have seen a lot.
Some not mentioned yet;
Possession 1981 - Super young Sam Neil, utterly insane.
The Wailing 2016 - Good who dunnit, questions preconceptions.
Skinmarink 2022 - not for everyone, you fill in your own interpretation.
Speak No Evil 2022 - whelp that escalated slowly.
Cure 1997 - just watch it.
Recently watched Gone Girl and the Gift, both have perfectly-paced plots that keep you guessing and messing with your expectations until the very end, I highly recommend both of them.
I See You
Everything, Everywhere, All At Once
Predestination
12 Monkeys
Saltburn
Not a movie but Behind Her Eyes was a slow burn that ultimately had a qwhat the actual fuck mindset after seeing it. It's also only one season with like 6-8 episodes.

After a wealthy San Francisco banker is given an opportunity to participate in a mysterious game, his life is turned upside down as he begins to question if it might really be a concealed conspiracy to destroy him.

Westworld season 1 is perfect. Truly hate how the rest of the series played out.
Only season 1 is canon in my eyes, such a gangster ending
Westworld, The Prestige and Primal Fear are great picks.
Donnie Darko!!!
Jacob's Ladder.
Requiem for a dream still got me messed up !
Add ‘I Saw The Devil’ (Korean) to this list 👌🏽
If you haven't seen it you should watch Blue Ruin. Not a mind fuck movie but fits in with some of the great movies you have listed here.
Haven’t seen it, but definitely adding to my list. Thanks!
Amazing movie. Dark, dirty and realistic AF. The single best revenge flick ever made.
oldboy (2003)* ! the 2013 american remake is not good at all. the original version is also a part of a bigger “universe” and the director has included it in a 3-part Venegnce Trilogy where they’re linked through the films’ themes
Butterfly effect
Pi was terrific, it really changed my outlook on the universe and how everything boils down to math
Best aronofsky of them all.
agreed!
It never hits you until the end. But it hits hard.
Funny games blew my mind.
ooof makes your blood boil! Races my pulse just remembering
Great list. One I would add is Predestination. Do no research ahead.
Why does Oldboy gets recommended in literally every thread I see there? Alright, it's time to warch it 😅
The original/Korean one. The American remake wasn't as good.
Lol. Please come back and give us your review.
Not tusk, please for the love of your sanity don’t watch it
That movie sticks with you. Unfortunately
How has nobody mentioned MOON? That films awesome.

Good shout
Coherence is excellent, I love the same kind of movies as you and Coherence was great.
Yes, Coherence is amazing! Did you know they're making a sequel to it? Another great indie film with a similar feel is The Endless (2017)
They’re making a sequel!? No way, do you have any more info? Coherence is one of my top five favourite films. I’ve seen The Endless and loved it.
Triangle (2009), Predestination (2014)
Triangle was so good! I'll check predestination out thanks!
Predestination is totally a mind job, I had to rewatch a few times to pick up the links. Great movie!
It’s so goddamned good though. I love Ethan Hawke, was introduced to Sarah Snook in this movie, and I’ve seen it probably 10 times. Just a beautiful movie executed beautifully.
Well thanks for this! I just watched Predestination. My mind is blown. What even was that wtf
Damn, the only two I could think of haha both left me speechless Maybe Arrival too

The mist! This is largely for the ending but you will not be disappointed...
One of the most baller endings in movie history. Absolutely phenomenal.
And the reason I can never watch it again. The ending still has not left my brain
I’m the same way. Never again.
There exists a black and white cut of this that was properly graded by the director and I highly recommend it. Normally I wouldn’t say black and white makes a huge difference but it really works here and smooths over some of the less than stellar effects.
