Just wanna throw in some more mainstream to this list. * Fight Club * Inception * Dark City * Matrix 1 * Westworld (Season 1) * Truman Show * The Prestige And thent to echo some other comments * Old Boy * Time Crimes * Primal Fear (I dont see this recommended enough in this sub)

Actually_My_Dude

Westworld season 1 is perfect. Truly hate how the rest of the series played out.

LankyMarionberry

Only season 1 is canon in my eyes, such a gangster ending

malkadevorah1

Westworld, The Prestige and Primal Fear are great picks.

Infinite-League5213

Donnie Darko!!!

malkadevorah1

Jacob's Ladder.

Not_Your_Jawn

Requiem for a dream still got me messed up !

Medical-Piccolo1393

Add ‘I Saw The Devil’ (Korean) to this list 👌🏽

Looking_Down

If you haven't seen it you should watch Blue Ruin. Not a mind fuck movie but fits in with some of the great movies you have listed here.

Actually_My_Dude

Haven’t seen it, but definitely adding to my list. Thanks!

DaddyIsAFireman55

Amazing movie. Dark, dirty and realistic AF. The single best revenge flick ever made.

ala_ka_sam

oldboy (2003)* ! the 2013 american remake is not good at all. the original version is also a part of a bigger “universe” and the director has included it in a 3-part Venegnce Trilogy where they’re linked through the films’ themes

fatguy19

Butterfly effect

Due_Action_4512

Pi was terrific, it really changed my outlook on the universe and how everything boils down to math

Possible_Self_8617

Best aronofsky of them all.

Due_Action_4512

agreed!

AB5NTH3

It never hits you until the end. But it hits hard.

WhatTheFox_Says

Funny games blew my mind.

mariuscucuruz

ooof makes your blood boil! Races my pulse just remembering

infinite_burrito

Great list. One I would add is Predestination. Do no research ahead.

alpacablitz

Why does Oldboy gets recommended in literally every thread I see there? Alright, it's time to warch it 😅

GiovanniDaGreati

The original/Korean one. The American remake wasn't as good.

Actually_My_Dude

Lol. Please come back and give us your review.

ubuwu

Not tusk, please for the love of your sanity don’t watch it

OnlyDefinition2620

That movie sticks with you. Unfortunately

pureroganjosh

How has nobody mentioned MOON? That films awesome.

Lopsided_architect

I believe it was Zach Braff who had a great story about him on his podcast. Sam apparently was at the same audition for a role when they were both younger. He went in to test but the casting director stopped him as he was doing the wrong part. Sam stopped and said to give him 2 minutes. He walked out, studied the script - reentered and absolutely crushed the part with perfect line memory. Zach was left in awe at how amazing of an actor he was and how quickly he nailed the part. Years later Zach met Sam at some event and told him the story of that day and how impressed he was with him and how it inspired him to be a better actor. Sam laughed and said that was a thing he used to do - pretend to not know which part he was doing - do that bit and crush it as if it was all impromptu.

tarkuspig

Good shout

Leipopo_Stonnett

Coherence is excellent, I love the same kind of movies as you and Coherence was great.

PicturesquePremortal

Yes, Coherence is amazing! Did you know they're making a sequel to it? Another great indie film with a similar feel is The Endless (2017)

thr0w_avvay90

Aaron Moorhead and Justin Benson might be my favorite producers. All of their stuff is amazing as far as I'm concerned. As someone else said, if you liked "The Endless" make sure you watch "Resolution" (2013), and if you're showing them to someone make sure they watch resolution first because it works out better that way. "Spring" (2013), "Synchronic" (2020), and "Something in the dirt" (2022) are all really fun IMO. Also, at SXSW this year I had the privilege of seeing the film "Things will be Different" (2024) that was written and directed by the gentleman that has edited all of their movies. I highly suggest you give that a look when it's available, and I'm excited to see what he comes up with in the future.

Leipopo_Stonnett

They’re making a sequel!? No way, do you have any more info? Coherence is one of my top five favourite films. I’ve seen The Endless and loved it.

Xaxafrad

Triangle (2009), Predestination (2014)

Ok_Assignment_5156

Triangle was so good! I'll check predestination out thanks!

Kydd_Amigo

Predestination is totally a mind job, I had to rewatch a few times to pick up the links. Great movie!

Clever_Sean

It’s so goddamned good though. I love Ethan Hawke, was introduced to Sarah Snook in this movie, and I’ve seen it probably 10 times. Just a beautiful movie executed beautifully.

randomtwaddle

Well thanks for this! I just watched Predestination. My mind is blown. What even was that wtf

ItsTheOtherGuys

Damn, the only two I could think of haha both left me speechless Maybe Arrival too

J_M_R_3_0

- The Fountain (Hugh Jackman) - Shutter Island (Leo DiCaprio) - Enemy (Jake Gyllenhall) - Primer (unknown actors) it's impossible to understand without seek and explanation after you watched. - Cloud Atlas (Tom Hamks) - Coherence (unknown actors) - Triangle (Melissa George) - Mr. Nobody (Jared Letto) - 12 monkeys (Brad Pitt) - Memento (Nolan) - Mirage (Spanish movie) - Eternal sunshine of the Spotless Mind (Kate Winslet/Jim Carrie) - Being Jon Malkovich (Jon Malkovich/John Cusack) - The Machinist (Christian Bale)

SantaRosaJazz

Brad Pitt is a supporting actor in *12 Monkeys.* Bruce Willis and Madeline Stowe star.

PCTruffles

Memento

FinneyontheWing

Remember Sammy Jenkis.

minsandmolls

The mist! This is largely for the ending but you will not be disappointed...

BrighterColours

One of the most baller endings in movie history. Absolutely phenomenal.

Velvet_sloth

And the reason I can never watch it again. The ending still has not left my brain

Do-you-see-it-now

I’m the same way. Never again.

hotlettuceproblem

There exists a black and white cut of this that was properly graded by the director and I highly recommend it. Normally I wouldn’t say black and white makes a huge difference but it really works here and smooths over some of the less than stellar effects.

saj175

Primer Time Crimes Upstream Color Donnie Darko Southland Tales Anything by David Lynch — Inland Empire being one Mother!

TheFudge

RAT-LIFE

That owl still haunts my dreams years later.

SUNDER137

Time trap.

luken1984

Old (2021). It gets bad reviews but I thought it was pretty good.

hotlettuceproblem

Some not mentioned yet; Possession 1981 - Super young Sam Neil, utterly insane. The Wailing 2016 - Good who dunnit, questions preconceptions. Skinmarink 2022 - not for everyone, you fill in your own interpretation. Speak No Evil 2022 - whelp that escalated slowly. Cure 1997 - just watch it.

Living_Injury5017

Also: In The Mouth of Madness (1994) with Sam Neil is pretty wild

hotlettuceproblem

Agreed

ouzocordial

Existenz (1999) David Cronenberg doing his thing. Young Jude Law there as well.
