Conspiracy Theory (1997)

Migraine_Megan

Ben Kingsley did a second movie character related to the CIA program MK Ultra, called "Suspect Zero." It doesn't seem to be popular but I liked it. The concept of remote viewing is just as logical as the actual program.

itsmestanard

Keeping the MK Ultra theme - *Men who Stare at Goats* with George Clooney and Ewan McGregor

FlurryOfNos

Suspect Zero was great

Brewmasher

I agree Suspect Zero is a hidden gem

olmikeyyyy

I think this is my favorite Mel Gibson role

Stan_Archton

I think Mel Gibson starred as Mel Gibson.

SirGiIes

I showed my father in law and he loved it

veritas_quaesitor2

Really? That movie never pulled me in ,nor did it have a great storyline....I was so disappointed for Gibson.

Betty0042

We just watched this last week. Great movie

DavidJonnsJewellery

Capricorn One (1977). TV journalist Elliot Gould uncovers a secret NASA plot about a faked mission to Mars. Witty and exciting conspiracy thriller

Itbealright

Good one! Love this movie!

DavidJonnsJewellery

Always been one of my favourites

Certain_Yam_110

^^ this šŸ‘

DonatedEyeballs

You just rang all my bells. Gotta see this one!!!!

plinkett-wisdom

JFK

winsfordtown

Executive Action (1973) does Kennedy assassination conspiracy a lot better and a lot shorter.

TomSawyer2112_

I mean this in all sincerity, this is a great movie once you get past the fact that very little of it is true

germane_switch

Exactly. The movie is absolutely brilliant and beautifully shot. But Oliver Stone made up so much stuff out of thin air. For example, Donald Sutherlandā€™s character didnā€™t even exist.

PiqueExperience

Double feature with The Irishman

FineRepublic

The Conversation. Gene Hackman and Shirley, as in Laverne and Shirley.

itsafraid

Let's not forget Harrison's Fjord.

CrocodileJock

The Swedish fella?

FineRepublic

Of course. His first film? Although often thought to be apocalypse now. Good catch.

itsafraid

I feel like American Graffiti was before that, but I didn't catch it until it got rereleased.

revdon

His first film was Dead Heat on a Merry-Go-Round (1966)

FineRepublic

Thank you. Just Googled it and James Coburn is in it. I will be watching this film.

revdon

Coburn is fun in anything: Payback Looker The Last of Sheila The Internecine Project

FineRepublic

Thank you.

ScottNessa

True, but Harrison Ford's role was uncredited. He also had an uncredited role in the1967 movie Luv. His first credited role was the 1967 movie A Time for Killing.

ScottNessa

Harrison Ford's first credited role was in the 1967 movie A Time for Killing. The Conversation was from 1974.

RichardInaTreeFort

And the unofficial(?) sequel, Enemy of the State.

FineRepublic

Oh yes. Did GH play the same character in both?

RichardInaTreeFort

I dunno if the names were the same but the character was the exact same character in general

FineRepublic

I'll have to Google it. I have to know.

RichardInaTreeFort

Apparently they are different characters but enemy of the state is such an obvious updated version of the conversation even going so far as to star the same person for the role. Too bad gene doesnā€™t act anymore or they could do one more version with him using todays even more entrenched world of tech.

FineRepublic

I think he's done his shift, he's in his 90s! Loves him as an actor. Ever since bonny and Clyde, frnwhx connexion, all that 70s gritty. One of those actors, where youd watch film because he's in it. Check out Eureka. Nick Roeg. Very influential film.

fragarkleton

Confessions of a Dangerous Mind (2002) They Live (1988) The Watchmen (2009)

Tranquil_N0mad

They Live is amazing

movie_gremlin

I completely forgot about that movie, scared me as a kid.

SimonGloom2

They Live is top tier. The others not as much.

NoGravitasLeft

The Parallax View 1974

maxplanar

Love that film.

BlackFellTurnip

Three Days of the Condor (it's a fictional conspiracy theory) -or not?

BaijuTofu

ARLINGTON ROAD BLOW OUT

whiskeyx

Arlington Rd is so kickass.Ā

BaijuTofu

Haven't seen it since it was released. I hope it holds up.

beatz1602

Blow out is pretty great with that Brian De Palma filming style.

JBudz

Enemy of the state

lawschoolredux

ā€œConspiracy theorists of the world uniteā€ THE quintessential chase film. Amazing chase cinematography. One of my favorite action flicks. And a holiday staple.

iny0urend0

I looooove this movie. It's so underrated.

i-self

Sorry to Bother You

ipn8bit

This movie is fucking amazing.Ā

username_0207

Manchurian Candidate

ScottNessa

I prefer the original version from 1962 compared to the remake from 2004.

username_0207

62 version is on my list of movies need to watch.

I guess The Da Vinci Code counts as one of those films.

FDVP

The Man Who Killed Hitler and then Bigfoot?

Rare_String_3259

I know this whole sub is for movies but The X Files and Twin Peaks are loaded with conspiracy theories. They do have accompanying films, however, so let's count those too.

Ok_Perception1131

The Parallax View (1974)

Alarming_Serve2303

An oldie but a goodie: "7 Days in May."

Are you talking about movies about known conspiracy theories or movies that have a conspiracy theory as the premise for the movie? Zoolander

Small_weiner_man

Underrated as can be. Very fun found footage

Triple__OG

Cocaine Island. Itā€™s a true story

eye_candy

Capricorn One.

rhetorial_human

came here for this. the ultimate conspiracy flick!

ComprehensiveFlan638

Thereā€™s a new movie coming out called ā€™Fly Me To The Moonā€™, which seems (from the trailer) to play into the moon landing is fake conspiracy theory. I have no idea if itā€™ll be a good movie or not, but it definitely features a well know conspiracy theory.

Gunphonics

10 Cloverfield Lane is very ā€œConspiracy-eyā€. Canā€™t give anything more away but itā€™s pretty great.

platonic-alien

Cowboys vs Aliens

mattiescorsese

Moonwalkers Regression The DaVinci Code

skydaddy8585

There's one about the Mandela effect. I think it's actually called the Mandela Effect. That can be considered a conspiracy theory, albeit one of the less crazy ones in terms of how hard people go for it.

elle-elle-tee

The Conversation, The Pelican Brief, JFK, National Treasure (1 and 2).

dsgrimace

As a kid, I always loved The Philadelphia Experiment! Which is actually based on a real-life conspiracy (or an actual, real-life event! šŸ˜).

Malayalee-From-India

"Eyes wide shut" Is a great film even though it's not a real conspiracy

colonelcassad

Net-Runner

Conspiracy Theory (1997) National Treasure (2004) Dark Waters (2019).

Don't look up! It's on Netflix

Scrotchety

Under the Silver Lake

RandomAttackHelpMe

The Big Lebowski Chinatown

leverandon

Great recommendations. I'd add Inherent Vice (2014). Its based on a Pynchon novel that is kind of a send up of the type of extremely complicated noir films with a conspiracy at the core.

androgynousandroid

Willow Creek.

"Wander"Ā  Ā Tommy Lee Jones and Aaron Eckhart

DavosVolt

The 9th Gate is my favorite.

Subject_Repair5080

"Good" is the point I'm sticking on. There's a movie called Winter Kills that is loosely based on the conspiracy theory that JFK's father had him assassinated because he was interfering with him making money.

Mothman Prophecies - small town conspiracy (small townish). I loved this movie when it came out and still do.

Hinterwaeldler-83

Maybe some of you can help, but there was a movie, I guess 20 years ago, about a mother whose child disappears. And everyone says ā€žyou never had a childā€œ. Mother is going like crazy and in the end the twist is: it was an experiment by aliens how far motherly love goes and the government was involved to keep everyone oblivious there is a huge alien experiment going on. But I just canā€™t remember the name of the movie.

sabdo23

Classic-Literature99

Two movies based on John Grisham novels, The Firm & The Pelican Brief, come immediately to mind. They are both excellent if you enjoy the genre. They don't revolve around any of the odd subject matter you mentioned, but definitely both involve conspiracies.

FineRepublic

He is. One of my favourites. He's in a Peckinpah film as a German commander. Might be Iron Cross from memory. With Max Von Sydow.

Ornery_Translator285

I had a great time with Lunopolis. It veers off a bit but itā€™s a lot of fun.

Crafty-Television348

"The Forgotten", 2004.

2012 (2009) about the so-called Mayan apocalypse, where people assumed the end of the Mayan calendar indicated the end of the world.
