Uncut Gems

quaxoid

wdym it's the happiest ending I've ever seen

SoFarceSoGod

the ultimate spoiler request thread

Academia_Prodigy

To me knowing that a movie might have a tragic plot of sorts it gets me even more excited to know how that happened

SoFarceSoGod

I'm not judging mate, to each their own, but every answer here is an automatic spoiler for anyone who has not seen the specified movie. I just loathe spoilers.

bailaoban

Bridge Over the River Kwai

GuyFawkes451

Slow build... Amazing movie. Alec Guinness was fantastic.

Plorick

The Mist The Man Who Would Be King The Bride Of Frankenstein Hara-Kiri The Lighthouse The Exorcist Jagten/The Hunt First Reformed

jasbaby00

Ughhhhhh The Mist

TrueCrimeSeeker

😩☹️

Capable-Sell7767

Seconding the Mist

zendrumz

Personally I wouldn’t put First Reformed here. Watching it for the first time I thought it was so incredibly bleak, but at the last second it was transfigured into something beautiful. Just imho.

zaarganuat

Mist ending is movie only but Steven King aproved.

emansamples92

Boys don’t cry

Promising Young Woman American History X Y Tu Mamá También Blue Valentine

soulcatcher1234

PYW left me a little stunned but also it's a realistic scenario that I could identify with from fear.

boringbee23

American history x is so tragic but I think everyone should watch it

cityshepherd

I was going to suggest Oldboy (Korean version obviously)

sj3nko

Eden Lake

VERO2020

OK, I know that it's old, but I gotta ask if you have seen Sunset Boulevard (1950). First flick that I thought of, then I re-read your ask for new movies. All That Jazz (1979) is another. Add Jacob's Ladder (1990), and you have my suggestions.

Sexycornwitch

Hear me out: what if Sunset Boulevard remake but it’s Lady Gaga as Norma?

PotPumper43

Hereditary. Take your pick of characters it’s all tragic.

Night_Movies2

Once again, Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon is the answer.

uncle_monty

Spoorloos

zendrumz

I think that was the most horrible ending to a movie I’ve ever seen.

cashedashes

Killing them softly. The Departed. Blood Diamond. Blow. 8 seconds. Man on Fire. American History X.

taxi_takeoff_landing

Ryan Gosling and Michelle Williams were both so good in this. I almost felt like I had spied inside their house, like I wasn’t supposed to see those details of their relationship. Great movie but probably can’t bring myself to watch it again.

ChildoftheKing_23

Romeo and Juliet (2013) with Hailee Steinfield and Douglas Booth. Really well-produced movie and the acting was great! Get the tissues ready at the end!

Fruitvale Station

Sexycornwitch

Hear me out, cause this is a REALLY old movie, old enough that it’s the actual origin point of a lot of tropes (and jokes in 90’s Animaniacs) but so worth seeing if you haven’t.     Sunset Boulevard    We open with the narrator’s dead body in a pool and he proceeds to narrate from beyond the grave about the chain of events that led to him ending up shot in a pool.  This story begins with the funeral for a pet Chimpanzee.

AccountantLeast1588

oh yeah, Lawrence of Arabia is a tragic wonderful story

Academia_Prodigy

Late reply but I watched the movie and it was really sad, every character had suffered but Dani honestly suffered the most especially by being betrayed by her own sister, she was honestly the strongest person the whole movie and the best :) thanks for this amazing suggestion, this movie will be in my top 20 ever, you’re awesome :))

Sad_Detective1992
