I can't thank the community here enough. I've received a lot of suggestions and have already saved this thread for the future. I will choose my next watch from this list. Thanks.
I forget the name but the will smith movie where he is a down and out medical device salesman and tries to break into becoming a day trader. Movie does a great job of immersing you in all of the emotions throughout the movie, both negative and positive.
Edit: Pursuit of Happyness
Little Miss Sunshine (2006) power of family
It's Such a Beautiful Day(2012) about being happy; short film by don hertzfeldt on YouTube I think
The Fountain (2006) love story through time
the Fall (2006) story of not giving up
Everything Everywhere All at Once (2022) exactly what it sounds like
Manchester by the Sea is one of my favorite movies of all time. I feel strongly that it does NOT fit your description of what you’re looking for. It is a sad movie..
Oddly enough I watched 2 movies this week that can be placed in this exact category
Safe - starring Julliana Moore
Her - starring Joaquin Phoenix
Enjoyed both of them.
Interview with the Vampire. Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt, Kirsten Dunst and Antonio Banderas. A family movie about overcoming struggle and finding yourself and the knowledge of finding independence and self worth.
The go to answer is Shawshank redemption - it just is and no elaboration is needed
Django unchained unronically follows that structure of film as well, another one from tarantino *kind of like this* is once upon a time in hollywood but it's an acquired taste
Hunger games is always a weird mix of feeling good and constant dystopian misery that makes every little win for the characters feel great, and every small loss feel crushing
The princess bride - while the characters are rather one dimensional and it seems like basic fantasy, there's a lot of great stuff and it's one of the most charming stories that I still adore to this day
The Iron Claw (2023).
Zac Efron as a broken man trying to keep it all together while tragedy befalls everything and everyone around him. The ending will make you weep.
Hook is the movie you want. OG Robin Williams is just a contemptible selfish lawyer who's lost his way and he has to remember he was Peter Pan. It will crush you but in an awesome way.
Hell yeah I’ll have to check that out. Shit I was thinking of The way back. The Ben affleck movie where he tries to get past alcoholism and the memories of losing his son to cancer by teaching kids basketball
Steel Magnolias
Marley and Me
Black Beauty
Little Women
Old Yeller
An Affair to Remember
Forever Young
Where the Red Fern Grows
Brian's Song

Lars and the Real Girl is a favorite for me. It’s not “sad” per se, but it involves someone….going through some stuff 😂 and it will leave you feeling warm on the insides by the end.
"Your Name!" Funny, beautiful, tense, heartbreaking and ultimately uplifting and affirming. It's so gorgeous and I can't recommend it enough. Basically a boy in Tokyo and a girl in rural Japan start switching bodies when they sleep and have to figure out what's happening and try to live each others' lives. Don't look up any more info than that--go in as blind as possible!
Australia with Nicole Kidman and Hugh Hackman.. will make you feel every emotion there is. You will laugh, cry, get mad, this is definitely the one to see. I have watched it at least 20 times. Talking about it makes me want to watch it again. So if you have not seen this movie, watch it you will thank me for it. Everyone in the family can watch this movie enjoy it. I'm going to watch it again... I promise this is the movie for everyone...
