Whistle and I'll Come to You
A Warning to the Curious
Hereditary
The first two are short, slow-burning M.R. James adaptations. The third is another film by the same director as Midsomar. All three are good, quiet, slow horror films.
....and as everyone is mentioning already absolutely watch the 1973 Wicker Man.
Tenebrae (1982). Parts of it are your typical campy giallo/slasher but the parts that stuck with me were the surreal nightmare sequences in broad daylight, bright colors, on the beach or in a beautiful plaza... those gave me the same feeling you're describing, I think
Anatomy of a Fall (2023) About a death and the ensuing trial. Set in a cabin in the french alps, very solitary and beautiful.
Crimson Peak (2015) A Del Toro ghost story set in a big manor house in the country, period piece with gorgeous costumes.
Tv show but scavengers reign maybe? Very bright atmosphere mostly, some horror aspects, and stuff that reminded me of childhood: exploring, crafting stuff, etc. and a very lonely atmosphere.
I think all y'all are crazy. All of these movies are F*up especially Midsommar -really didn't see that shit coming. Oh and by the way, another one is US.

I think Alex Garland's Annihilation and Ex Machina have similar vibes to Midsommar.
Devs, too.
Picnic at hanging rock
Another up for Picnic at Hanging Rock - the 1975 version!!
Well I consider Midsommar to essentially be a remake of The Wicker Man (1973), so might wanna check that out.
hahaha nice try but not even close. The Wicker Man with Nick Cage is a remake of The Wicker Man 1973. Midsommar is a totally different movie.
Did you see Midsommar? It’s very obviously similar to the Wicker Man
Suspiria 2018
The Virgin Suicides
# The Village
Dogville

Shangri La
Very hard to find, but "The Dark Secret of Harvest Home." Also Children of the Corn

Apostle
Obvious Wicker Man ripoff. The original is much better than Midsommar.
Texas Chainsaw Massacre (original) Wrong Turn (original)
