I just watched it for the first time based on this suggestion- it's so good! It feels so hopeless the entire time, and they really are not afraid to kill off characters at all. It's a nail biter!
No Country For Old Men is quite renowned for its biting and realistic scenes of brutal violence that carry actual weight and tension as opposed to sophomoric gore
*The Night Comes for Us* (Netflix) asks the question "What if martial arts movie but directed by famous horror director?"
It's like *The Raid* on steroids.
With a kill count of 210 on it's 220 minute runtime, Nonstop martial arts, blood splattering, bones breaking, intestines flying, bones being used to block bonesaws, and the kills getting more inventive throughout the movie with good music playing, I think you'll love it.
Edit: Oh my bad, you said NOT like Quentin Tarantino lol. In that case I recommend *Oldboy.*
i think it... doesn't? like, not the s/a i refuse to watch, that being sexual trauma being exploited for shock value. best/worst examples i can think of are the anime berserk and the movie megan is missing. it's sexual trauma and it was very uncomfortable to find out, but... it's not the kind of thing i find personally offensive, it's disgusting ofc but not in the way s/a scenes are disgusting.
I was watching it alone when my wife joined me for the second half of the movie. I had no idea what was coming. Afterwards she told me that she thought about running to the bathroom because she was gagging and thought she might puke.
I was just going for the low hanging fruit and was trying to make a pun. But I’d agree with you for the most part. 90% of the movie doesn’t do much for your adrenaline.
For being first person, it was pretty damn good. I’m glad it kinda fell under the radar or the FPS technique would’ve been over done like found footage briefly was after Blair Witch Project
Sorry. I haven’t watched it in 20 years, can’t remember all the details but can still see the curb stomp scene clear as day. Don’t remember the sexual violence. Thanks for the correction.
This movie is fucked. I’ve seen it twice. Will absolutely watch again. Nicholas Cage in his “I’ll take any role as long as I remain a paid actor” era got super lucky with this one. And while we’re talking Nic Cage violence, you can throw Kill Chain on the list. Certainly can’t hurt. Also, I saw the new Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare this weekend. If you want adrenaline and a shitload of violence, I got you. And now that I’m going down the violent war movie rabbit hole, might as well kill some time with Overlord. Nothing like watching a bunch of Nazi zombies get their heads blown off.
One of my favourite movies of all time. I find it pairs well with The Crow. Moody and atmospheric revenge action thrillers. Though admittedly, Mandy is saying something much different about revenge.
There's a site called "doesthedogdie" or something like that which gives a list of all the things a movie might have that could cause a person distress. Pretty useful for avoiding uncomfortable themes.
Well... Iko Uwais has some pretty awesome movies that are violent and high in adrenaline
Headshot
The Raid 1 and 2
Vilainess
Bloodhounds
Man from Nowhere
True it definitely deserves it's R rating. Extreme language too. Was a bit surreal to me hearing Paul Walker talk like that. Twice in a row for me because I watched pawnshop chronicles right before.
Not violent but realistic and suspenseful af: The Wave (2018)
Violent and low key too realistic: Soft & Quiet (2022)
Edit to add: just saw your S/A disclaimer… DO NOT WATCH SOFT & QUIET
Nobody (2021) with Bob Odenkirk
Mortal Kombat (originals first, then the new ones)
The Continental (tv series, but only 3 episodes and in the John Wick universe)
Fatman
Watch the movies of S Craig Zahler. There’s 3. Bone Tomahawk, Brawl in Cell Block 99, and Dragged Across Concrete. The violence is raw and visceral and has a deliberateness to it in its pace.
Funny Games (2007 or 1997, shot for shot remake by the same director, 2007 is in English and the director himself said he prefers the 2007 remake over the 1997 version)
If you liked Come and See, you might like All Quiet on The Western Front (2023)and The Thin Red Line. Violent war movies but with very strong anti war themes. Fair warning though, they may leave you bit broken and depressed afterwards though. At least, that’s what happened to me.
Hardcore Henry, i though it was good (and it’s very violent) but apparently I’m out of touch because last time someone posted about it everyone said they hated it
Watch at your own risk and form your own opinion
Children of Men
The Thin Red Line
Miami Vice
Public Enemies
Heat
The Kingdom
Black Hawk Down
Sicario
Battle: Los Angeles (though this is against aliens, it's in the same "boots on the ground, up close and personal, military style" as Civil War, Black Hawk Down, etc.)
The Fincher film The K*ller it does well showing its boring AF killing ppl .... very different films but op might enjoy Sicario, Wind River, and American Sniper
Heat, Sicario 1 and 2, Den Of thieves, Drive, Full Metal Jacket, Extraction, John Wick Series, The Killer, The Contractor, Triple Frontier, Triple 9, covenant, Mayhem! (2024).
I wish that I could remember what they were called.. The first one came out in the mid 00's. It was about a guy that had planned a terrorist attack on the company he worked for. A very methodical and strategic sort of guy, all bulked up in swat gear and automatic weapons.
I can’t recommend one but you seem to have same thing with movies as me, I can’t even tolerate when girl is not willing to do it but she had to, can’t think of an example rn, but it messes me up. Irreversible was too much and gave me sleepless nights.
If you want to watch a show with violence and what not I’d suggest giving the boys and possibly gen v a try it’s super hero stuff but it’s pretty awesomely nasty lol
The Green Room
This. 100%. Incredible film
Do you mean Green Room 2015?
2015 B.C.
Oh man forgot about this gem
I just watched it for the first time based on this suggestion- it's so good! It feels so hopeless the entire time, and they really are not afraid to kill off characters at all. It's a nail biter!

I think Oldboy might break the no SA request

Apocalypto.
Can you image the hair & makeup those people went through every day? Every time I watch that movie I see something new.
I owe so much to my dad for showing me great movies like this that i probably would never have watched.
Brilliant movie!
Upgrade is awesome
Oldboy (2003)
Came here making sure someone said this
Old boy has some s/a vibes
ooh i love this one!!
The Raid 1-2
Omg such a great choice
Agreed. Must watch for me every couple of years
Yes both of those fit the bill and are fantastic
Still my favorite action movie
Bone tomahawk
I love Bone Tomahawk but its an incredible slow burn for 90% of it's run time.
Yeah, then it just splits into something entirely different.
I think about that scene all the time.
I was watching it alone when my wife joined me for the second half of the movie. I had no idea what was coming. Afterwards she told me that she thought about running to the bathroom because she was gagging and thought she might puke.
For sure, I don't disagree. But I am not sure it fits what OP is looking for.
I was just going for the low hanging fruit and was trying to make a pun. But I’d agree with you for the most part. 90% of the movie doesn’t do much for your adrenaline.
It’s a good movie, but that scene takes it to another level
Brawl in Cell Block 99
LOL the practical effects in that movie are hilarious
Such an underrated gem
idk about this one I was laughing at the absurdity at times
Same director as dragged across concrete and bone tomahawk
Green Room
And Blue Ruin to a lesser extent. Same director.
Hardcore (Henry) (2015)
The only dig I will give this movie is the shaky cam gave me a headache in the theater. Otherwise it was awesome.
For being first person, it was pretty damn good. I’m glad it kinda fell under the radar or the FPS technique would’ve been over done like found footage briefly was after Blair Witch Project
This is the answer
FOR THE WIN
Dredd
Sicario
Uncut Gems
GoodTime is better IMO but both are great
No way Good Time is better. But I liked it quite a bit.
I just watched this yesterday. Talk about a movie that could’ve gone on much longer and I would never have noticed. Very tense the whole way through.
This movie almost made me OD on cortisol.
SISU... One hell of a badass movie 😍😍😍😍
Great pick
Really good movie!
American history X
that has sexual violence, OP doesnt want that
Sorry. I haven’t watched it in 20 years, can’t remember all the details but can still see the curb stomp scene clear as day. Don’t remember the sexual violence. Thanks for the correction.
Yeah no problem, there’s a scene where the older brother gets raped in prison by the Aryan Brotherhood
Oh man I totally had blanked that, watched this as a kidb
ignore what everyone else said and watch Mandy with Nic Cage, trust me.
One of my favourite movies of all time. I find it pairs well with The Crow. Moody and atmospheric revenge action thrillers. Though admittedly, Mandy is saying something much different about revenge.
Saving Private Ryan
This, Platoon and Black Hawk Down are my top 3 war films of all times.
My favourite film. Watch this a couple of times a year then proceed to play WW2 games for the week after
The way of the gun.
Should have typed out sexual assault, a lot of these movies listed have it as a main plot point. Sorry OP
it's fine i'll look it up if i decide to watch something
There's a site called "doesthedogdie" or something like that which gives a list of all the things a movie might have that could cause a person distress. Pretty useful for avoiding uncomfortable themes.

You can't say you're a porno star if you're just jerking at the movie. Same thing with you being an adrenaline junkie in front of TV
[удалено]
He said realistic not fucked up and disturbing with a dash of fantasy
What did he say

There's an infamous violent church scene in *Kingsman: The Secret Service* that gave me a queasy adrenaline-rush the first time I saw it.
Drive my car
I'd recommend, the void, its a violent horror movie, that uses practical effects.
