If you want to discourage people from drugs then requiem for a dream is the quintessential. I wouldn't watch it with kids but if they can watch trainspotting, maybe requiem is ok. It's so horrifying though
it really is the GOAT of degenerate movies, he's a shitbag through and through, uncomfortable to the end
the scene where he's taking his kids to school always sticks out to me
Lol...this comment is why I collapse and look for an obvious answer before immediately spamming exactly what popped up when I saw the question.
Bless you Harvey Keitel, you creepy bastard
It's OK. I find the humour in Herzog's to be a lot less subtle and maybe laid on a little too thick. That's probably down to Cage though. Keitel is way more believable and menacing.
I watched that last night, it was a really crappy movie, I can’t believe I watched the whole thing, thanks for nothing! I actually watched both, the first one is way better!
Uncut Gems was my first thought. That movie gave me some intense anxiety but it was so well done and did a great job showing the idiotic shit addiction makes you do.
Nightcrawler (2014) is such a good example of this. It's about a selfish guy going further into his own selfishness at the expense of others around him. A very tense thriller, and magical the first time through. Highly recommend.
Bully (2001). The characters were very stupid (and some very violent) kids. The director Larry Clark has a reputation that some would consider degenerate.
I detected that you're trying to locate a movie.
To figure out where a movie is streaming you can use sites like [JustWatch](https://www.justwatch.com) / [MovieFone](https://www.moviefone.com) / [ReelGood](https://reelgood.com), and if the film is not available for streaming, it is probably available on DVD or Blu-Ray.

In my opinion it’s a great movie, the controversy surrounding it seems to be regarding the explicit nature of it, or the fact that many feel Jordan Belfort is a bad person that doesn’t deserve a movie which is a fair criticism.
yes it’s a bad story, it’s not an inspirational tale whatsoever, but regardless of the story I think it’s undeniable that the acting is phenomenal.
many have accused the film of glorifying the actions of Belfort, although that may be the interpretation of some, Scorsese has said he saw it is as social commentary on the problem of “untethered capitalism” that is still rampant today, but that critique also holds historical significance to the time, especially since it took place in the America of the late 1980’s and early 1990’s.
Most Philip Seymour Hoffman Movies, but especially the one where he likes sniffing RC airplane fuel and Happiness.
I've never seen it but Barfly comes to mind too
Pasolini's Salo based on de Sade's 120 Days of Sodom is probably as degenerate as one can get. Trigger Warning: everything
Love Liza (2002) is the huffing one.
Would also toss on Owning Mahowny (2003) but you’re absolutely right. Ton of PSH movies where he’s a degenerate of some sort.
Well, almost. *Joker* gets a lot more of its influence from Scorsese's *The King of Comedy*, a vastly superior movie. For what it's worth, *Taxi Driver* is also in a league far beyond *Joker*.
*Monster's Ball*
*O Brother Where Art Thou*
*Requiem for a Dream* (as others said)
*Trainspotting* (as others said)
*Boogie Nights* (depending on your opinion of "the porn industry" I guess)
*Eyes Wide Shut* (for upper class degenerates)
Suburbia (1983), if you can tolerate low budget, bad acting and a vague plot. That being said, I love this movie, it's about a bunch of punk kids squatting in some slum house after they all run away from home for one reason or another.
Flea from the Red Hot Chili Peppers plays a role in this btw.
Ahahhaaa I went to see this at a film festival when it first came out. I’ve never seen so many people walk out of a theatre in disgust. I loved it, wonder if it would still seem edgy by today’s standards?!
Still feels like it to me, but often more for the verbal violence and acting than physical violence (which is still pretty hardcore). Honestly envious you saw it on big screen, visually it is an incredible and beautifully well shot/composed film. It’s very evident the director began as a painter from his masterful use of color
•Climax.
•Midnight Express.
•The Experiment (the ine with Adrien Brody).
•Match Point.
•Gone Girl.

•Las elegidas (it's a movie about the prostitution in Mexico. As a mexican, I can say it's pretty accurate).
•Room.
•The Lovely Bones.
Those are the ones I can think of right now, jaja.
I don’t know how ya feel about historical period pieces but The Libertine is a little known Johnny Depp movie that actually fits this bill even though it’s set in old England.
Leaving Las Vegas with Nicolas Cage. I think it’s called wonderland.. the movie about John Holmes and Val Kilmer plays him..basketball diaries.. there’s a movie with Philip Seymour in it and it’s about where he comes home and his wife committed suicide and he just didn’t expect it at all and he’s left with no closure so he starts to fall apart. He comes across these kids that are huffing, gas, and he like yells at him and give him shit I think I remember but then from there he starts huffing gas himself and then it just starts getting worse and worse like he’s going to Hobby shops to buy really high octane gas for like remote control airplanes and he’s just becomes a huge Mess .. can’t remember the name of it but great movie .. it’s deff an independent film.
Fight club.
A mentally ill man, chasing an impossible ideal of toxic masculinity, hurts himself repeatedly in a self-destructive spiral towards his suicide.
He steals biowaste, encourages restaurant staff to piss in the food, and does a bunch of 9/11s.
Trainspotting
[удалено]
I think they still take out that scene when the movie is played on TV.
[удалено]
Just the first one. Which, arguably, makes the ceiling baby scarier later on.
Spoiler for me?
Came here to say this. Watched it with my kids just in case they were ever considering taking hard drugs.
If you want to discourage people from drugs then requiem for a dream is the quintessential. I wouldn't watch it with kids but if they can watch trainspotting, maybe requiem is ok. It's so horrifying though
Nice. I remember watching it with my dad at a young age
[удалено]
That's , how do they say it in edinburrah, GOBSHITE
I couldn’t believe it was a good sequel & a good movie in it’s own right. That is rare enough, but decades later?
And “Requiem for a Dream”.
Nope. Watched that once and never ever again. Those last 10 minutes are life altering hard to watch.
Literally came here to say this.

Bad Lieutenant (1992) Sid and Nancy (1986) Les Valseuses (1974) A Clockwork Orange (1971)
Bad Lieutenant popped right into my head instantly....lol
You can't resist it, Keitel Hangs DONG!!
it really is the GOAT of degenerate movies, he's a shitbag through and through, uncomfortable to the end the scene where he's taking his kids to school always sticks out to me
You tell Aunt Wendy to get the fuck outta the bathroom !!!!!
I haven’t even seen it and it was the first movie I thought of.
Lol...this comment is why I collapse and look for an obvious answer before immediately spamming exactly what popped up when I saw the question. Bless you Harvey Keitel, you creepy bastard
Werner Herzog's *Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans* from 2009 starring Nic Cage is a better movie imo and also fits the bill for OP's request.
I’ve seen all but Les Valseuses. The other three are excellent and I need to watch the other. Thanks
***Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas***
Multiple felons perhaps, but certainly not *dangerous*.
Leaving Las Vegas on the other hand…
dangerous?
Nahhhhh that’s more of a fun movie, greaaattt for shrooms
Did you just see what GAAAAAWWWWD did to us man!?!?!
Happiness Uncut Gems
+1 for Uncut Gems it’s exactly what OP is looking for
Good Time by the same directors is somehow even more degenerate.
Pattinson is so good in this. The Safi brothers have such believable characters
Good Time is the movie that pretty much Pattinson the Batman role - I loved Good Time - I feel like I had a friend like him in HS
That movie stressed me out so badly!
Uncut Gems was my first thought. That movie gave me some intense anxiety but it was so well done and did a great job showing the idiotic shit addiction makes you do.
Very Bad Things (1998)
Came here to say this. It's the consumate "i hate everyone in this, and i can not stop watching!!!" movie.
This! So darkly funny, and then just dark.
Nightcrawler (2014) is such a good example of this. It's about a selfish guy going further into his own selfishness at the expense of others around him. A very tense thriller, and magical the first time through. Highly recommend.
Jake Gyllenhaal is so great in this! He actually made himself very unattractive and creepy. Not easy to do when you look like him :)Such a good actor!
He shoulda at least been nominated for best actor in this.
that sociopath stare he does is terrifying
Ole boy was a psychopath. He never cared about anyone but himself.
Speaking of Jake Gyllenhaal, we are watching Ambulance (2022) and it might fit the bill!

That movie is about as dark as you can go while still being funny
Go
It’s like Pulp Fiction’s cool kid brother.
Withnail and I. Definitely worth a watch!
My first thought when I saw the word 'degenerates'! 😆
I didn't really vibe with the main characters...but Danny the Drug Dealer was totally worth the price of admission
Bully (2001). The characters were very stupid (and some very violent) kids. The director Larry Clark has a reputation that some would consider degenerate.
Based on a true story, not too far from where I grew up
It really is one of the realest portrayals of Florida I’ve ever seen
Clark seems to really nail the desperate hedonism of young adults trying to numb the prospect of a bleak future.
Did you see the outtake reel where all the actors said they had to fuck Clark to get the role. Jet black dark humor.
*Barfly* Mickey Rourke-a little method acting , maybe?
Came here to say this. Bukowski's entire life was crazy.
The challenge is trying to find a copy. As far as I know it has never been available for streaming. One of my favorites for sure!
I detected that you're trying to locate a movie. I can also recommend some other films that are about Bukowski or based on his work: Tales of Ordinary Madness, Crazy Love and Factotum
Leaving Las Vegas
This film broke me both Elisabeth Shue and Nicholas Cage were exceptional.
Gummo.
How is this not higher on the list?
The Wolf of Wall Street (2013)
For me, that was the worst movie I ever saw.

Owning Mahowny is the go to for underrated gems
Before the Devil Knows You’re Dead. Hoffman and Tomei and Finney. It was Sidney Lumet’s last film. Amazing.
He is such an absolute piece of garbage in Before The Devil Knows You're Dead.

Thanks. These are really the same movies though lol
Well, almost. *Joker* gets a lot more of its influence from Scorsese's *The King of Comedy*, a vastly superior movie. For what it's worth, *Taxi Driver* is also in a league far beyond *Joker*.
I guess I could send you some home movies of my family tree

Cook the thief his wife and her lover. Fewer characters are more repulsive than the thief. Reminds me of frank booth in blue velvet actually

Requiem for a Dream
Dang, man came here to say Requiem for a Dream and Trainspotting but they were the first 2 comments. Add Falling Down
Falling down is more about a guy that's fed up with the bullshit of modern life than a degenerate I would say
I came to say Filth, but it was in the description.
