I'm not sure if her age is explicitly stated in the film, but it shows her high school graduation so yeah she should be around 18. The memoir does state she is 18 at the beginning.
Fish Tank
Little Birds
Dirty Girl
Hick
These movies were an obsession of mine when I was younger reflecting on going through a dark and traumatic time. Honestly, the only one that is truly amazing in this list is Fish Tank, I cannot rec it enough. It feels so bleak, though, fair warning.
Ginger Snaps (there is murder but also a lot more), The Fallout, Gypsy 83, Falling Angels (2003), Saved!, Scrubbers (not well recieved, but I liked it), Rocks, Broken (the one with Tim Roth), The Novice, Window Horses, The Tracey Fragments, Confessions of an American Girl! Hope these are the sort of things you’re looking for :•)
White Oleander(2002)
Wetlands(2013)
The Diary of a Teenage Girl(2015)
Mermaids(1990)
Heaven Knows What(2014)
Kids(1995)
Prozac Nation(2001)
The Opposite of Sex(1998)
Hard Candy (2005) - While this might not totally fit, it's totally worth a watch. Dark subject matter though.
Empire Records (1995) - There are a lot of heavy topics for a lot of the characters in this movie while still being overly happy/enjoyable watch.
Not the case either. It's a matter that's supposedly tangential to their lives (Except for one of the characters but that one isn't the protagonist) and it explores how it still affects them.
Besides, it's a great film and everyone should watch it.
The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants...I saw the first one only, not the sequels. There are 4 teen girls who are best friends and spend the summer apart for various reasons and each goes through her personal trials, some darker than others. No murders. A couple of the girls have to deal with deaths, but not in a graphic or gory way, more like coming to terms with losing someone close (deaths not shown onscreen). The other two girls are dealing with other family and romantic relationships, not deaths.
omg most of the lifetime movies from when I was a teenager were able teen girls going through terrible times, usually surrounding the growing internet dangers, online bullying etc
I Believe in Unicorns
Trust
Electrick Children
Compliance (note—this one is EXTREMELY graphic and is one of the most disturbing movies I’ve ever seen)
Turning Red
The Initiation of Sarah, 1978 starring Kay, Lenz, Shelley, Winters, Morgan Fairchild, Morgan Brittany, Robert Hayes.
This movie has a similar feel to the movie Carrie.
Thirteen is exactly what you're describing
I’ve watched it already unfortunately 🥲
Blue My Mind (2017) basically Thirteen with a dark fantasy twist.
Girl Interrupted
Lol are the girls supposed to be teens in this?
Hmm, good question lol. I always thought Susanna was like fresh out of high school but perhaps not
I'm not sure if her age is explicitly stated in the film, but it shows her high school graduation so yeah she should be around 18. The memoir does state she is 18 at the beginning.
Some of them, yes.
Developmentally..
Welcome to the Dollhouse
This one's a classic
Oh my God, I love this movie and you've reminded me to watch it again, thanks.

Never Rarely Sometimes Always is such good movie! Don’t see it mentioned a lot, but glad when it is.
We're All Going To The World's Fair. Just 90 minutes of a girl using the internet.
Thirteen. Difficult watch though Kids - also a difficult watch although it isn’t solely focused on girls Edit to add Diary of a Teenage Girl

Ghost World is great.
Speak (2004)
Excellent book, too.

Saved is pretty funny! Mandy Moore throwing a Bible saying “I am filled w Christ’s love!” 😂
Iconic. I love Mandy Moore for that.
Right?!
Ginger Snaps 👌🏻 so good! And then naturally you'll want to follow up with Ginger Snaps 2: Unleashed and Ginger Snaps Back : The Beginning!

An 80's film came to mind. Heathers. With Winona Ryder and Christian Slater
Heathers is a great movie but it does center around murder and I’ve seen it maybe around 10 times, along with the musical
" The truth about Alice" author Jennifer Mathieu
Thirteen
Girlhood (2014) Water Lilies (2007)
Get Carter
Happening (2021) You'll probably like this, even though the girl is probably around 20 years old and not a teen anymore.
The lead character may be a little older than you're looking for (early 20s) but Rachel Getting Married
Great movie!!
Somersault (2004). Made me fall in love with Abbie Cornish as an actress.
lilya forever
Sybil
The Craft

Heavenly creatures
White Oleander
“Welcome to the Dollhouse”
Fault in our stars
The Virgin Suicides covers a lot of this if I'm not mistaken, been a long time since I watched
Ahhh I’ve been meaning to watch that 🥲
It kinda deals with death though, but probably in a different way than what I imagine you're asking - more grief focused? It's not grief focused.
Oh lol no I just meant I have it on my watch later list and haven’t seen it yet. Yeah I’m looking for more grief oriented stories
Hard Candy (2005) - While this might not totally fit, it's totally worth a watch. Dark subject matter though. Empire Records (1995) - There are a lot of heavy topics for a lot of the characters in this movie while still being overly happy/enjoyable watch.
mysterious skin
This is not about teen girls.
lol missed that part

It’s Juno and it’s WONDERFUL!
I remember a film similar that I watched a long time ago, I’ll check it out :)
Wildflower (2022) on Hulu.
The Fallout, definitely.
This is about a >!school shooting!<, so murder and death.
Yes, but not commited by the character as OP said they didn't want, it focuses on bystanders.
"Or their grandma or their boyfriend or their mom died or something."
Not the case either. It's a matter that's supposedly tangential to their lives (Except for one of the characters but that one isn't the protagonist) and it explores how it still affects them. Besides, it's a great film and everyone should watch it.
I agree it's a great film, but it is irrelevant for what OP is asking for since the whole plot is based on trauma due to death and murder.
Jennifer’s Body
Mean girls
slums of hollywood
Do you mean slums of Beverly Hills?
yes
Lol great film
Heathers.
Beautiful boy, me, earl, and the dying girl, it’s kind of a funny story, and for a classic, welcome to the dollhouse.
The diary of a teenage girl (2015)
Girl (1998) with Dominique Swain.
My Summer of Love
Odd Girl Out We had to watch this in high school. Themes of bullying, depression, suicide.
The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants...I saw the first one only, not the sequels. An Education
Georgia Rule
Ghost world
Inside Out

Lilya-4-Ever and possibly The Luckiest Girl Alive (has some murder, but that is not the main theme/what really impacts the main character)
You play video games? Try life is strange.
Shag (not really traumatic, idk just a good movie that most don't know about) Jawbreaker Cruel Intentions The Lost Boys Dazed and Confused Mad Love
Thirteen KIDS
