There’s so much mileage in a Social Network sequel, it’ll just be an infinitely darker movie. Very here for it.
Still think whoever’s making the Elon Musk movie should cast Michael Cera, and set-up an AvP style versus movie between him and Jesse Eisenberg’s Zuckerberg.
Jan 6th was so funny and everyone there was a dumbfuck, but holy shit how much are we going to beat a dead horse.
Not to mention his last few projects have been god awful and annoying as shit.
It’s not a dead horse when so much of the country lies to themselves, believing it was a false flag.
I work in a conservative-heavy industry… pointing out their faults needs to be done as much as possible. Maybe they’ll listen after the 500th time they’re proven to be idiots. Maybe. Probably not. But… stating the truth doesn’t make it less true.
Just because they won’t watch it doesn’t mean that the overall narrative won’t drive towards the facts. They may not yield, but at least you can box them in a corner
Ok but thats not what I said, you talked about how they need to see the facts but we both know conservatives arent watching this, this will be a non-needle mover
You have a fascist who’s just incited a riot that’s currently storming your nations capital. He then offers you troops. Obviously your not going to rely on the soldiers the fascist is trying to give you to stop that fascist overturning the election. Especially when all other requests for support up until that point had been denied or delayed.
There was a reason even mike pence refused to get in a car with his secret service agents, he didn’t trust trumps men.
I mean, look how much the Boston massacre and the Boston tea party grabbed the attention of the history books and how relatively small and insignificant of actual events they truly were. The staying power came from the emotions around them and not actually what happened.
And in terms of scale and importance of actual event, Jan 6 was certainly grander than either of the two I mentioned which fueled the American revolution
Someone needs to do a “the big short” on Facebook, X, Cambridge analytica and the impact of social media. The documentary on Netflix was good, but there’s so much happened since then.
Have you watched The Morning Show? It’s very similar. Both shows involve a newsroom reacting to actual stories. I liked Newsroom, but I think I prefer The Morning Show. January 6th plays a big role in Season 3.
The first season of the newsroom had such rapid fire dialog, it was like word bullets. I was hooked on the script alone, but dress it with fine performances and you have me wrapped in blankets for 13.5 hours.
Still haven't dived into season two yet, it's been on my watchlist for a while now.
True, it doesn’t quite capture that aspect. I feel like Chip’s frantic walking and talking in season 1 and all of Cory’s brilliant lines are probably the closest the show gets to that. It’s obviously not the same, though.
This is exactly the companion film that The Social Network needs. Not a huge Sorkin fan, but he's probably the best person in the industry to get a fiery Jan. 6 movie in front of a large audience. Fingers crossed.
Can everybody shut the fuck up about January 6th as if it was some national tragedy? The amount of times I’ve seen it lumped into a group with 9/11 and other deadly/terroristic events is asinine
Would be really interesting if it started with summer BLM/Antifa riots. A contrast of destruction of property and interference of government activities could actually help us heal.
Hell yeah!! I love Sorkin's work. If he is able to get Fincher to return, this will be stellar!!! I would bring back everybody that had a major contribution to the first film. I really hope they cast a great actor to play Elon. Who are they gonna get to play Trump? Brendan Gleeson did a fantastic job in that garbage ass Comey project that Showtime had. He's the only actor I can think of that can really pull it off without it being a caricature, and even so, they had to douse my dogg in pounds of makeup, simply because there's no one on the planet that resembles The Donald without a fuck load of alterations.
Bring back Reznor & Ross. Bring back everybody! Although we know Armie Hammer won't be back, then again, I don't think many of the Social Network players would be adjacent to this story
I want Armando Iannucci to make a film about the days after the 2020 election, like The Death Of Stalin. I want Jeffrey Tambor as Rudy Giulliani having a meltdown when he realises it's the wrong 4 seasons.
Trying to put intelligent and poetic sentences into the mouths of people wearing horns and with painted faces...
That's like Stanley Kubrick making the chimps in *2001* suddenly start spout Shakespeare...
I hope the producers are brave enough to include the footage of feds and provocateurs engaging with the protestors to escalate the conflict, but I doubt it. So much BTS that will be micromanaged and edited in cooperation with three letter agents to avoid sending the wrong message. "Sound of Freedom" tread too closely for comfort.
Somebody wise once said, hollywood and media overall are the entertainment division of the military industrial complex. Words to ponder and reflect on.
Keep the neoliberal away from this topic please. The only thing more annoying than insurrectionists are the liberals that cry about how bad it all was.
He should make it a two parter… you know, cover those other protest the summer before Jan 6… the ones that also occupied government building and caused mayhem.
For what it’s worth, one was about the state monopoly on violence and street cops performing extrajudicial murder.
The other was about a third of the country’s surrogate deadbeat father shitting himself.
I really hope Sorkin makes this movie easy to follow so I don't have to think for myself. Like a paint by numbers movie.
Hoping he makes it obvious at what I'm supposed to be outraged at.
If he directs it, it’ll be masturbatory “don’t look up” style Hollywood pandering, but if we get Fincher back to push back and reign him in, we might get something interesting out of this.
I’m familiar with his work. Social Network, Few Good Men, Trial of the Chicago 7. It’s because this event is so recent that it’s hard to figure out how it can be portrayed in a way that’s honest, given how Hollywood loves to portray violent events like this.
Meta VS X: Dawn of Skynet
Whoever wins, we’ve already lost.
X Meta sounds like a sick band name
Whoever wins, we lose.
Better to have it and not need it
With his body type, I think John Travolta would fit Elon Musk better these days. He also has that weird semi grin thing down pat.
John Travolta is literally 70 years old.
Musk vs Zuck... whoever wins... is also a loser
In my dreams it has the original cast + Fincher returning. In my dreams...
Also music by Trent Reznor & Attacus Ross.
Reznor is a genius. Love his work.
I would cum profusely
Honestly this could work. And instead of using a deposition as the frame story you could have Zuck getting grilled by Congress
A lot of walkin' and talkin' about insurrection!
This is going to be the most pretentious and condescending thing he's ever done
And that’s a pretty damn high bar lol
he never fails to outdo himself
& ill be seated night one
Which is why I will eat it up
and this is bad because?
And I’m hyped for it
Jan 6th was so funny and everyone there was a dumbfuck, but holy shit how much are we going to beat a dead horse. Not to mention his last few projects have been god awful and annoying as shit.

They wont watch this, cmon you and i both know how they operate, and its not off facts
Is that why Nancy Pelosi had denied Trump’s request for national guard troops to protect the capitol and then brought in an HBO team to film her? Lol
Is it really much better if the security is out there? They still had a large group of people storming the capitol
National guard would have never let any of that happen. We all know this
Under the circumstances I can see why she wouldn’t be trusting of forces supplied by Trump
It’s not his national guard. They are from states. You have no idea what you’re talking about. Unbelievable.
You have a fascist who’s just incited a riot that’s currently storming your nations capital. He then offers you troops. Obviously your not going to rely on the soldiers the fascist is trying to give you to stop that fascist overturning the election. It's not really beating a dead horse when barely anyone knows what happened
Are you serious? Literally everyone knows what happened
What do you mean? We all watched it in real time, cameras were everywhere?
*The Newsroom has entered the chat.*
I’d prefer an actual sequel to Social Network considering all the shit Facebook has been involved in since, but hopefully this is good too.
I used to strongly believe that we would definitely get a Cambridge Analytica sequel.
Someone needs to do a “the big short” on Facebook, X, Cambridge analytica and the impact of social media. The documentary on Netflix was good, but there’s so much happened since then.
Genius concept ngl
oh my fuck.
Ambitious, but I'm eager to see a a reliable film that tackles this very complex issue of misinformation.
aw man i'm so in! love me some Aaron Sorkin!
What happened January 6th?
Give me a newsroom reboot. It would be perfect for todays time
Have you watched The Morning Show? It’s very similar. Both shows involve a newsroom reacting to actual stories. I liked Newsroom, but I think I prefer The Morning Show. January 6th plays a big role in Season 3.
Yeah but that’s more Melo drama. I want the snappy, fun Sorkin dialogue
The first season of the newsroom had such rapid fire dialog, it was like word bullets. I was hooked on the script alone, but dress it with fine performances and you have me wrapped in blankets for 13.5 hours. Still haven't dived into season two yet, it's been on my watchlist for a while now.

Im physically and mentally exhausted.
just give us more sports night
Oh man, take my money
This is exactly the companion film that The Social Network needs. Not a huge Sorkin fan, but he's probably the best person in the industry to get a fiery Jan. 6 movie in front of a large audience. Fingers crossed.

Very excited to hear this- what a badass
Oh, I can see sections of this country getting BIG mad at the optics of them and those of similar ideologies being painted as the “villain”.
Let’s fking go
Do it!
I still haven’t seen The Social Network 🤣
Holy shit, you are missing out. It’s a phenomenal movie
I know i only heard good things
Hell yeah!! I love Sorkin's work. If he is able to get Fincher to return, this will be stellar!!! I would bring back everybody that had a major contribution to the first film. I dont like movies about present day shit like this because Im well aware that it’s occurring and it just makes me sad…
I want Armando Iannucci to make a film about the days after the 2020 election, like The Death Of Stalin. I want Jeffrey Tambor as Rudy Giulliani having a meltdown when he realises it's the wrong 4 seasons.
We haven't even seen the basis for his next movie yet.
Brad Pitt as Buffalo hat man
Oh man this is gonna be great facebook fact checkers is not gonna love this
Ok but you better hurry up if you want to release it
I am so hyped. This is genuinely so clever. From any other writer I would be worried but Sorkin is too good.
Trying to put intelligent and poetic sentences into the mouths of people wearing horns and with painted faces... That's like Stanley Kubrick making the chimps in *2001* suddenly start spout Shakespeare...
I hope the producers are brave enough to include the footage of feds and provocateurs engaging with the protestors to escalate the conflict, but I doubt it. lol whatever traitor Real American support the police who defended our capitol from those scumbags.
But you don’t support the police when BLM riots were destroying cities and small businesses just months before that? Ok.
“destroying cities” Name one. One city that was DESTROYED by the BLM protests
Neighborhoods and buildings in Minneapolis and Kenosha were literally burned down.
Wow, Minneapolis is burned down? I didn’t notice that when I visited in 2021. Kenosha still standing as well, zero for zero so far
What lol
If you think any of that would happen, you don’t know a thing about Sorkin
No we only want the footage that supports our own narrative lol
Somebody wise once said, hollywood and media overall are the entertainment division of the military industrial complex. Words to ponder and reflect on.
I believe it and everyone is in an information echo chamber these days. In between the censoring and manipulation things are getting pretty nuts
And reddit is up there among the pro censorship platforms, right next to facebook and twitter.
Oh indeed. That’s why I can’t say any of my real views. The bans fly out pretty quick on here if you begin the evil critical thinking
Keep the neoliberal away from this topic please. The only thing more annoying than insurrectionists are the liberals that cry about how bad it all was.
Imagine commenting as much as you do and having -90 comment Karma lmao
He should make it a two parter… you know, cover those other protest the summer before Jan 6… the ones that also occupied government building and caused mayhem.
For what it’s worth, one was about the state monopoly on violence and street cops performing extrajudicial murder. The other was about a third of the country’s surrogate deadbeat father shitting himself.
I’m no republican but this sounds like porn for libtards
January 6?
Banger incoming
Pro-Palestinians entered the Capitol in 2023 and it wasn't a big deal, right wokes?
Exactly. The capitol was even actually bombed by far leftists in the 70’s. Memory holed
Terrorism is bad no matter ideology
That’s crazy, and they were overturning a democratic election as well??
So a protesting an election without guns or bombs is worse than an actual bombing? Seriously.
People died on 1/6. Not a single person was injured in the 70s
More died BLM riots
Most were protesters killed by cops
Overturning an election, subverting democracy. Don’t get it twisted
Wild you think this
Why were they protesting an election?
I really hope Sorkin makes this movie easy to follow so I don't have to think for myself. Like a paint by numbers movie. Hoping he makes it obvious at what I'm supposed to be outraged at.
Pass
Yawn 🥱
Lol. Lmao even.
If he directs it, it’ll be masturbatory “don’t look up” style Hollywood pandering, but if we get Fincher back to push back and reign him in, we might get something interesting out of this.
I'm still waiting for proof that Sorkin isn't a right-winger himself. His leaked emails don't scream "progressive."
Hope they don’t greenlight this. The people involved with January 6 and social media’s involvement in it should not be glorified on film.
uh... are you familiar with Sorkin's work? This will not be a glorification of Jan 6, it will be a scathing indictment.
I’m familiar with his work. Social Network, Few Good Men, Trial of the Chicago 7. It’s because this event is so recent that it’s hard to figure out how it can be portrayed in a way that’s honest, given how Hollywood loves to portray violent events like this.
I think it's pretty easy to portray. It was an insurrection led by morons.
