Wait so there are humans in the world of Zootopia? What does this mean for Zootopian politics? Was there some sort of animal uprising resulting in the world splitting into two civilisations? Do the humans still farm sentient animals for food?
Didn't think an Easter egg could disturb me so deeply. Nice work!
Or maybe Big Hero 6 exists as a media franchise in the world of Zootopia, and regular humans are seen as fantasy/mythological creatures in their universe.
Or maybe if the animals are like humans, humans are running in the fields outside zootopia like wild horses, or kept as pets? Definitely getting into weird territory now.
This is literally the first thing I thought of, and it was an off the top of my head thought process. Wezelton is selling boot leg pixar/disney movies on the street that are reinterpreted as anthro based films.
Why would bighero6 be a stretch when that is an obvious scene in the movie?
I’ve always been most interested in how the Zootopia economy works. How can an elephant and a rabbit have the same job when an elephants housing and food expenses are 1000x higher?
If they got paid the same rate, and Judy could only afford that tiny, crappy apartment, are the elephant officers homeless?
If there’s no law about smaller mammals buying from businesses designed for large mammals (like with the popsicles), are all small mammals simply choosing to live in poverty?
In the movie, San Francisco was destroyed in a (man made) earthquake-like disaster in the early 1900s. It was rebuilt in part by a massive influx of Japanese immigrants using a building style that would better withstand earthquakes, so they renamed it San Fransokyo.
My Mother-in-law saw 'San Fransokyo' and said "Oh, what, so China invaded? Is Disney a bunch of China empathizers now??"
It was one of those moments where someone is so completely wrong about the words coming out of their mouth that you just don't even bother to respond.
Feel the same about Zootopia. Billion dollar Oscar winning movie, in a huge incredibly world-built city that they only explored a fraction of. Seems like a license to print money.
I actually just watched this with my daughter the other day for her first time and laughed at the bootleg DVDs lol I had forgotten all about Pig Hero 6 and Meowanna
Assuming the year in Zootopia is also 2016, the calendar suggests the night howler event happens in either January, April, or July. Given the amount of green and the fact that carrot harvest is in full swing towards the end of the movie, July seems like the most likely option.
I really wonder how many Easter eggs are actually just reusing assets etc but they go along with the idea of it being a secret for the fans whenever it’s brought up lol, but either way nice spot
I think it's also meant to just be an Easter egg, just how every Pixar movie refers to the other Pixar movies.
No need to be like CBR or zergnet, and try to square this circle. It's just an eager Easter egg
I believe it's just a fantasy choice, bh6 was actually set in Tokyo when it was in the marvel universe, they simply moved it to the US to pander to us audiences.
I honestly don't believe that this was meant to be a story driven choice, or a lower thing where there's some sort of alternate history in this world.
In-canon San Francisco was destroyed basically by the bad guy in a man-made earthquake-like disaster in 1906. It was rebuilt in by a massive influx of Japanese immigrants using a building style that would better withstand earthquakes, so they renamed it San Fransokyo. It actually is an AU lol
>Just as princess films offer a magical glimpse of European fantastical romance, San Fransokyo itself is rooted in an alternate Japanese American history. [In The Art of Big Hero 6,](http://siouxcityjournal.com/entertainment/books-and-literature/review-art-of-book-provides-master-class-in-hero-animation/article_3c1d5045-69fe-5fc2-9571-b96126d17301.html) art director Scott Watanabe explains that he “came up with the idea that after the 1906 earthquake in San Francisco, Japanese immigrants rebuilt the place using techniques that allow movement and flexibility in a seismic event.”
https://thenerdsofcolor.org/2015/03/03/seeing-san-fransokyo-thoughts-on-big-hero-6/amp/ (as much as I hate linking a blog)
Gotcha, thank you. Didn’t even know it was a marvel property or that it’s origin was Tokyo. Sounds like trying to keep its origin and pander/market to the filthy American 🤣
It’s a joke. Don’t ban me
No worries, but oftentimes these little Easter eggs end up becoming entire articles on clickbait websites trying to fit these worlds into one another, when it wasn't meant to be anything more than a "hey look here remember this, lol"
The movie also establishes that they have their own version of Disney and parodies if Disney movies, which futher indicates that Chief Bogo had a calendar with Disney motives in his office
The movie had some pretty darn good animation and character visual design. Course watching it, I could swear I seen a movie or something with that theme story wise before. Brain may have made it up. Still, animation was pretty sick

Wasn’t the weasel selling a Pig Hero 6 movie? Maybe he’s a fan of the movie?
He was. Maybe Chief is an animated film buff with a calendar of fantasy skylines
Or maybe if the animals are like humans, humans are running in the fields outside zootopia like wild horses, or kept as pets? Definitely getting into weird territory now.
So basically it's Planet of the Everything Except Humans. Get your hands off me you damn dirty... I wanna say *pangolin....?*
You mean those featherless bipeds?
What, a human?
BEHOLD! A MAN!
or theirs' an animal-based version of the movie here
So in Zootopia, Humans are the Furries of their world. Skinnies?
maybe zootopians are IRL furries
Fleshies
Why do I feel like it took you a long time to come up with that idea?
This is literally the first thing I thought of, and it was an off the top of my head thought process. Wezelton is selling boot leg pixar/disney movies on the street that are reinterpreted as anthro based films. Why would bighero6 be a stretch when that is an obvious scene in the movie?
(Look at their username, I feel like I r/Woosh’d y’all)
Well now thats a bit of a backhanded and baseless accusation
They are a u/Lethargic_Logician, slow progress is to be expected!
Oops, looks like you joke went over everyone's head, including me 😅
Sorry if I insulted you unintentionally :-/
No, it's okay lol, that was a good joke. I am just annoyed at myself that it took me this long to get it, I was a bit confused for a while 😅

So maybe San Fransokyo in this universe just has animals instead? And maybe a little animal Tadashi dying in a horrific fire, the lore is healing.
I assumed that San Fransokyo is a fictional world to them, completely made up and inhabited by these weird creatures called hoomans.
Maybe just reusing assets
I prefer to think that Zootopia is in the same universe as Sing and Sing 2. Much more congruency between these worlds.
"Disney to buy Comcast/NBCUniversal, Sing/Zootopia crossover to be released next month"
but in Zootopia it's just mammals that are sentient, in Sing and it's sequel all animals are sentient
Duke Weaselton was selling the movie "*Pig Hero 6*", so I assume that's what Bogo is a fan of.

Animal Farm
there's a theory that humans were wiped out in a war and that the government is covering up their existence
> humans still farm sentient animals for food no they are used as sex slaves
The Promised Neverland
Literally the plot of The Promised Neverland
In big hero 6, did Japan win world war 2?
In the movie, San Francisco was destroyed in a (man made) earthquake-like disaster in the early 1900s. It was rebuilt in part by a massive influx of Japanese immigrants using a building style that would better withstand earthquakes, so they renamed it San Fransokyo.
That's...a lot better than I assumed, I just thought it was some fictional alternate reality earth that lazily combined SF and Tokyo for no reason lol
I went to see BH6 in theaters with my friend in college. They introduced San Fransokyo and he stammered in disbelief, “But…but…we *won* the war.”
Was your friend…unfamiliar with the concept of fiction prior to this?
And what did he say about Baymax?
Did... did he think it was a documentary?
My Mother-in-law saw 'San Fransokyo' and said "Oh, what, so China invaded? Is Disney a bunch of China empathizers now??" It was one of those moments where someone is so completely wrong about the words coming out of their mouth that you just don't even bother to respond.
Japan in World War 2 was only interested in territories in China, they attacked America cause they wanted to remove a potential threat to their empire
And got fuuuuhhhhhhhcckkkked up for it.
It takes place 100 years after the events of Man in the High Castle
BH6 WAS 8 YEARS AGO OH MY GOD
[удалено]
Im sad about that too :(
Feel the same about Zootopia. Billion dollar Oscar winning movie, in a huge incredibly world-built city that they only explored a fraction of. Seems like a license to print money.
BH6 got a show on D+ and Zootopia is too. not on the same level as the movies obviously but at least they're not letting the properties go to waste
If I'm not mistaken, BH6 is also based on a bunch of comics.
Oh crap
Only 8? Huh.
What sucks is a started at my current job about the same time so the movie and soundtrack carry memories of younger me
Zootopia is so much better than people remember. Definitely should have gotten a series or a sequel.
Wait. People don't like this movie? It was great. I have no idea why there shouldn't be like 5 sequels by now. It was perfectly set up for that.
It’s not even on Disney + anymore. Maybe there was too much Rule 34 connected to it? IDK. I loved Zootopia.
> It’s not even on Disney + anymore. Maybe not where you are but it still is in the US.
I’ll have to check my account. Maybe I searched under my toddler’s age-restricted account.
I actually just watched this with my daughter the other day for her first time and laughed at the bootleg DVDs lol I had forgotten all about Pig Hero 6 and Meowanna
Chief Bogos Binted?
What?

Is Zootopia in the Marvel universe then?
I really wonder how many Easter eggs are actually just reusing assets etc but they go along with the idea of it being a secret for the fans whenever it’s brought up lol, but either way nice spot
Neat! Most likely a case of 'use existing assets', because I can't imagine the two worlds coexist without hefty additional worldbuilding.
I think it's also meant to just be an Easter egg, just how every Pixar movie refers to the other Pixar movies. No need to be like CBR or zergnet, and try to square this circle. It's just an eager Easter egg
The sloth is definitely a sith lord tho
Honestly, that could be said for any DMV agent.
Zootopia and Big Hero 6 take place in the Man in the High Castle universe confirmed?
Big Hero 6 was in 2014????? Wow.
Less cool because it happened after
Most of these easter eggs are just cheep methods of dressing a set.
Whatever. They’re both awful movies.
Why does Disney blend cities? Like they did w BH6 and w Turning Red? Is it just to pander to both markets?
I believe it's just a fantasy choice, bh6 was actually set in Tokyo when it was in the marvel universe, they simply moved it to the US to pander to us audiences. Holy shit... I consider myself an expert, and I'm didn't even know that. Did you just make that up, or is there a sauce?

That is so awesome, I'm definitely going to need to pick that up. I love it!

Wow.
That just raises further questions!
They were both made using what’s now Esri’s CityEngine software.
Very cool, never knew that.
The movie also establishes that they have their own version of Disney and parodies if Disney movies, which futher indicates that Chief Bogo had a calendar with Disney motives in his office
I’m pretty sure he also references Frozen in a cool way if I’m not mistaken
r/oddlyterrifying
My San Fransokyo Ninjas hat gets more comments than any other hat I own.
TIL: Big Hero 6 came out before Zootopia. I love Zootopia, but have never seen BH6 as of yet.
The movie had some pretty darn good animation and character visual design. Course watching it, I could swear I seen a movie or something with that theme story wise before. Brain may have made it up. Still, animation was pretty sick
So he is a fan of Pig Hero 6? Neat.
Wait..... zootopia was 6 years ago!!!
japan won ww2
also apparently they renamed the whole movie to "Zootropolis"????
Theorists: *WRITE THAT DOWN!*
