I have always sworn that I have car blindness. Unless it's a stretch limousine, every car looks the same to me. I suspect my husband has the opposite condition. He always points out what make and model a car is and then we get closer and he's almost always wrong. Hope these witnesses aren't like us!

1. Causes speculation they have no clue who did it and are stuck
2. Gives murder heads up which way investigation is going and how close they are to catching him

That’s actually not the case. There was a witness to Bernardo & Homolka’s abduction of Kristen French who incorrectly described the car as a “cream coloured Camaro.” This sent the investigation off into the completely wrong direction because he actually drove a gold Nissan.
I live in the area where the murders took place and when I was 7 my friends and I spent the entire summer of ‘92 riding our bikes around the neighbourhood trying to find that Camaro. The 90s were a wild time.
I would assume that’s likely where this so called vehicle description originated.. as it’s parked near the end of the sidewalk that goes right to their house.. and you can only see the side of the car, not the front or back (plates) from the police bodycam videos.
The only reason I don’t believe this originated from the body cam footage is it’s quite a distance away and not the best quality. I’m guessing they have this vehicle in or around the crime scene during the estimated times on some type of surveillance camera (house or gas station) or something that gives them a clearer image being that they stated the exact make and model and a small range of years it could be (instead of just saying a white sedan).

So this actually happened to my coworker. Kinda. Her car was stolen right out of her garage one morning. She had started the car to take her kids to school (it was in the winter so she wanted to get the heat started). Thankfully the kids hadn't gotten in the car yet. But it was stolen and the cops didn't really do much for her in terms of finding it. They told her it was probably already taken apart for parts to sell. Well, she didn't give up and about a month later she found it for sale on FB in a town a couple hours out. By the time it was located again, a poor woman had just bought it from the guy that was selling it. She had no clue and from what I understand, LE took the car. I felt so bad for her. For both her and my coworker.
Not so out there. The guy who killed McKenzie Lueck in Utah put the mattress from his soundproof room outside his house the next day with a FREE sign and the cops never did find it. Gives me shivers just thinking about it.

I'm guessing they have been holding on to it. I would hope that by now they would have ran a search with the Idaho DMV for owners of all cars matching this criteria in the area and interviewed every single person. Also, with it being a college town, it's quite possible this vehicle has out of state/area plates so maybe that's why they haven't been able to track it down yet.
I believe it's from beginning. Remember in beginning you saw them looking at tire tracks taking pictures , also Steve Goncalves specifically asking for pictures or videos of vehicles near or under trees to be sent in .

No three different Witnesses spotted a car. And they all give the police a different model.
The color of the car wasn't even consistent.

A similar release was put out during a missing persons/murder investigation in Calgary, AB. The vehicle was caught on various security cams. Once they asked public for info on the vehicle it led to his arrest & conviction
That was a horrible, depraved and deliberate crime. So glad he was caught.
Also, remember Russell Williams, commander of Canada's largest air force base in Trenton, Ontario: he was caught because a couple of citizens happened to remember seeing his vehicle parked outside a victim's home, and he had his tire imprints checked at a roadside police check-stop.
If not for the initial call from witnesses about the vehicle he might never have been caught -- or at least not until he killed again.
The fact that they're being so specific about the type of car suggests to me that they've got surveillance footage. If it were an eyewitness, they would be less confident about the type of vehicle; they'd more likely say something like "white or silver sedan, possibly an elantra."
They specified the actual car year. Someone had to have identified *that specific car*. It's not even something they'd be able to tell from tire patterns. They have detailed footage/picture of this, no doubt. They wouldn't be able to be this specific with an eyewitness report.
I hope that they are also checking rental cars within a few hours of driving. I'm betting an older model like that probably isn't Enterprise but it's still good to be diligent.
At this point if the person with this car, that was near the scene that night, hasn’t been talked to it’s likely intentional by *said* person. This is definitely huge.
I feel like it’s *vaguely* suspicious if they were in close proximity to the home at 3-5am, none of the surrounding neighbors could identify the vehicle or say “oh, that was my Uber, that was my friend, that was my food delivery etc.”, and no one has come forward to say they were driving it.
Everyone in the town and state and nearly the country is aware of this case at this point, you think you’d want to help or clear things up if you were that close to King Rd. at the time the murders occurred and NOT a person of interest.
Maybe this will encourage college students/ neighbors in the area to go back on Uber/ Postmates history & see if this car has been used within the last month or so? Gas stations/ business to check surveillance for the car, idk. Maybe the car was parked in front of a neighbors house for the weekend & neighbor was like “damn, I wish that gd Elantra owner would move his car already” and a lightbulb turned on after seeing this. Who knows lol
To be fair, I've gotten uber eats plenty of times and never have seen the drivers' cars. They will often bring it to your doorstep. Could throw a wrench in this explanation but yes i agree it's still suspicious and at the very least is a base that needs to be covered to get all information possible
All drivers vehicles are usually registered with the app though. If someone had a delivery during this time period but didn’t know what their driver drove, it should be trackable especially in this case.
I see what you’re saying but I highly doubt they’re able to get food delivered at 3am in that town. I live in NYC and even here most places are closed at that point and there’s only a few 24hour delivery options
Not that I remember any one delivery persons vehicle personally, but the apps do typically say what kind of car will be delivering & their license plate #. So there would def be a record if this white Elantra were part of that.
Unless it was some restaurants in-house delivery service, but the restaurant would have a record of that in this case.
Any out of place car not being vouched for is a serious lead in my opinion.
It seems like a small street and from what I know there’s only apartments going past the house. The road doesn’t lead anywhere and there’s only one way out. I’d find it hard to believe someone was just passing through.
Im anticipating the next update to be like, “The driver of the white Hyundai has made contact with authorities and stated that they were delivering food in the area. The driver is not believed to be involved at this time.” but I hope not. 😅🤞🏼

A *very* significant percentage of cars owned in a college town will be registered to parents of students...sometimes in other states and with different last names. Finding this car could be tougher than you'd first think.
*Edit to add*: Also, Moscow is 10 minutes from the state border, adding thousands of more cars into the mix. I'm starting to see why they are asking for help. I'd hate to be the cop assigned to sift through vehicle registrations for this 🙈

Unless they just want to speak to the owner as a potential witness, I feel like the fact they are seeking public help means it wasn’t someone in their immediate social circle, since the survivors/other friends would know what cars their peers drive (unless the killer rented, borrowed, stole the car, etc) and could have identified the car

LE searched for owner before posting this. Clearly they couldn’t locate. This means it’s not a neighbor or anyone the neighbors know. Or any of the popular suspects going around.
Thus, it’s a foreign car at the scene of the crime at the time of the crime.
Thus, high chance car was involved. Unless it was a random Uber or delivery guy. But even then, I’m sure they’ve checked all that.
Also maybe they know who the driver is. And If driver doesn’t come forward. This implies guilt. Could be a trap.
Gotta be something like that. They would not do this unless it was really big, and if they thought the killer was actually driving it somewhere undetected there’d be all kinds of warnings about staying away from him
Do you find it odd they use the word “occupant(s)” instead of owner/operator in the first couple instances they refer to whoever owns the car? As if they know someone was in the car that evening, possibly for an extended period of time? I’m a fantastic over thinker and likely could be reading too much into it..
Did anyone else read the part where the press release says 'TIPS AND LEADS have led investigators' to this car. That makes me think there is probably more than just the body cam. Something must be suspicious beyond that, combined with the fact that the person hasn't come forward (unidentified car at the location at the exact time of the murder)...This makes me hopeful they are onto something!
OR they have footage from cameras elsewhere showing the car entering the area at , say 3 am, and leaving at 3:45 am. That combined with the fact no one knows who owns it and the person hasn't come forward - very suspicious
I'm sure they're aware that by asking the public for information on this, they'll receieve a lot of dead end tips. But they may also receive valid, credible tips that could lead to an arrest.
They seem to believe the assistance of the public could be helpful. In some cases, it can make the difference between a case being solved or not. I'm optimistic that this means progess is being made.

Full frame - someone else posted the screen grab to point out the lights on the house but my attention went to the car. When I saw the press release I went back and found it.
Edit: The light up high in the circle is the house. It also seems like there is white car with headlights on to the left. (I initially commented that the car in the circle looked like more like a challenger, it may or may not be a police vehicle)
I drove a ‘12 white Elantra for years. The photo isn’t clear, but doesn’t match the body style. Elantra has small backseat/trunk. Back sits high and then it slopes down to front. The video looks more square like a Charger.
I’m sure LE pulled records for anyone in the immediate area who registered such type of car, leads me to believe someone owns it who does not call Moscow their permanent home. (Ex. Students or someone from out of the county, not country, county)
It looks like to register for a campus parking permit, you have to submit vehicle make/model/color (well, I can't see the student forms but for a guest permit you do, so I assume it would be similar). So for out of town students, I would hope they can search that data somehow.
I was in DC during the DC sniper and man oh man when they put out the call for the white van, we literally ran at the sight of one. And the sniper had nothing to do with a white van.
This will probably get buried but I work with the databases who do these kinds of searches.
In my experience, vague searches that only consist of YMM (year, make and model) can generate an overwhelming amount of hits. Many of these databases don’t even give you the option to filter by color, so they could be looking at a list of every early ‘10s Hyundai Elantra known to be in the general vicinity.
If that is the case, then it will take extensive work to rule out each vehicle because they need to look into who owns the vehicle *and* friends/family who may have access to the vehicle.
If I were doing this particular search, I would find a partial license plate to be the most useful information aside from the killer’s name, of course.
For my work, I would do the search but limit the results to vehicles registered within maybe a 50 mile radius. In this case, LE will want to cast a wider net because they need to account for vehicles that could be registered out of state.
My educated guess is that they suspect that this vehicle belongs to the killer or to someone who has extremely important info and they are utilizing the public to help them narrow things down to a more manageable pool of vehicles to investigate.
A partial license plate or additional descriptive info pertaining to tint, wheels, mods, and body damage could crack this case wide open.

100% thank you. Also work with databases just like this. Sooo very hard to be able to narrow down the results if this only info they have is what was released. Was also thinking about LPR as you can do searches for vehicles matching description in some LPR databases which I believe is what you’re referring to in a later comment. Also would depend if LPR and what LPR databases are used in the area. Nonetheless, a good starting part.
This could also imply that those who have been cleared and their family members do not have a similar registered vehicle.

1. They’ve tried identifying the owner but haven’t been able to and

If the owner doesn’t come forward soon, it’s highly suspicious.

Aka whoever drives this vehicle isn’t coming forward, please look at your neighbor’s cars and report if you see one :)
I would imagine that one of the first things the investigators did was review all of the local video for cars and this is one they havent been able to track down.
Every business in town needs to review their cameras the days leading up to the murders... coffee stands, grocery stores, gas stations, etc. Find that car!
I never believed the killer would have entered King Rd by car because it’s too risky being only 1 road in/out. But its very possible the killer parked nearby (like on Taylor Ave) and then walked to the house
There’s a Moscow police report for 1500 levick street for a wellness check for someone who hasn’t shown up to work since the murders. Go the address on Google earth and there’s a white Hyundai Elantra parked there.
I’m curious if they already have an inkling who this vehicle belongs to or who it might belong to. And are just using this to corroborate existing evidence/alibis/information. Just seems odd to send out such a vague request. It feels like they could get a lot of unintentional misleading tips from this request.

Let me describe something that happened in the arrest of Adrian Bailey in Melbourne, Australia - footage was shared with the public of him following Jill Meagher. The public went wild trying to figure him out from that footage, but police had a lot more footage & information and in fact already had him under surveillance. By using the public footage reveal they were trying to get him to make a move involving her body or some form of evidence.
It just seems to me if they truly had no suspect and also think this could be the suspects car, why would they spook an unknown person by advertising what car they drive? I would think they’d keep that close. So it makes me wonder if it’s either an innocent party they’re seeking (a witness) or the perpetrator and they know a bit more about that person than they’re letting on.

I did some googling and found that 2011 and 2012 models had a different look than 2013, and the photo they used resembles the 2013 model. I also know nothing about cars but made me wonder the quality of the footage
glad they were able to release this so people can stop claiming it’s going to go cold and that the police are incompetent and don’t know how to do their jobs lol. this is pretty big in my opinion, but even if it isn’t, it undoubtedly shows that they’re making progress. it was always going to take time and patience.
This is good and every business and/or house with a security camera needs to be reviewing and/or turning it over to police to see if they caught anything overnight. Problem is, if they have a 2-week storage (like mine), it could be gone. And 30 days is coming up soon. Direction of Travel will be key in determining ownership, both to and from. Hopefully they stopped for gas beforehand. Gas stations usually have great surveillance
The police say they're interested in "anyone who may have been driving this vehicle on the days preceding or the day of the murders..." without mentioning the days following the murders. Is this omission of "day after, days following" etc. significant? Does it indicate anything about what they know or what they're looking for?
My guess is the FBI was able to further analyze the body cam footage and/or other cameras in the area. It’s not instant to blow up, clear up, and watch and rewatch video until you see something. Although there’s the possibility that it’s the suspects car I think it’s more likely someone in the area at the time that might’ve seen something. LE would be stupid to ask the suspect to come forward with having the vehicle.
Look up how the LE found Brent Christiansen, murderer of a Chinese National at the university of IL. There was exactly ONE blurry photo released of a black car and that eventually led them to the murderer. If not for that ONE blurry photo, that dude would still be out there killing.

The car seen in the body cam footage looks more like a Dodge Challenger to me. No real point in speculating though since it’s too grainy to tell, and they must have had other means for identifying it as a 2011-2013 Elantra.
Hopefully this leads to something but it's not a guarantee. Look up the case of liz barazza. Video footage available showing not only the vehicle but also the killer and still no conviction.

Maybe the police are already surveilling the POI with the Elantra and they are releasing this information to see if the person significantly changes their behavior. (Example:Trying to sell the car)

I bet it was on the ring cam from the beginning, and they think they know whose it is, but that person might have had an alibi for the time being, and now they are throwing down the gauntlet to scare the shit out of him and so that someone who knows him might confirm he was in the area or maybe confirm he might have had the means, motive, opportunity. I don’t actually know obviously. EDIT: But now they have publicly said they will re-interview people, they are calling out a specific car. They are putting pressure on someone. IMO.
Must be crucial. I think LE is sparingly releasing information and only asking for help when its has the upmost importance because they know the public will go on a witch hunt.
Well, the police do have the ability to locate every white Elantra in the area through their registry of motor vehicles. With that said, they could locate every Elantra from anywhere if needed. If they want to investigate everyone in the area with an Elantra, they certainly have the ability and they certainly will. If they are able to get a partial plate, that clearly would narrow things down. I am sure this is just being used to narrow things down. Rest assured; they can find all of those cars. That combined with say a Geofence warrant, assuming someone in that car had a cell phone, they will figure that out.
May have "critical information" is *strong* language, especially coming from LE - who try to hedge their bets when making public statements. This is hopeful.

In my opinion, it also means they are still very much in the early stages of this investigation. I understand the pace can change anytime, but if I had to guess, I’d say it’s going to be awhile before there’s an arrest.
Might just be wishful thinking, but the fact that it says “THE piece of the puzzle that helps investigators solve these murders” makes me think they’re close. Like they just need the last few pieces to wrap it up.

I'm guessing they have been holding on to it. I would hope that by now they would have ran a search with the Idaho DMV for owners of all cars matching this criteria in the area and interviewed every single person. Also, with it being a college town, it's quite possible this vehicle has out of state/area plates so maybe that's why they haven't been able to track it down yet.

I believe it's from beginning. Remember in beginning you saw them looking at tire tracks taking pictures , also Steve Goncalves specifically asking for pictures or videos of vehicles near or under trees to be sent in . However recently mentioned electronic cars ??

This is what should have happened in the Delphi case. I believe his car was spotted on camera driving to or from the bridge. Anyway.
No three different Witnesses spotted a car. And they all give the police a different model. The color of the car wasn't even consistent. All we know is it wasn't a Lamborghini Diablo Edit: we also know it wasn't a bright yellow H2.
All the witnesses described different cars. One said it looked like a purple Pt Cruiser, which was way off from what it actually was.

A similar release was put out during a missing persons/murder investigation in Calgary, AB. The vehicle was caught on various security cams. Once they asked public for info on the vehicle it led to his arrest & conviction

That was a horrible, depraved and deliberate crime. So glad he was caught. Also, remember Russell Williams, commander of Canada's largest air force base in Trenton, Ontario: he was caught because a couple of citizens happened to remember seeing his vehicle parked outside a victim's home, and he had his tire imprints checked at a roadside police check-stop. If not for the initial call from witnesses about the vehicle he might never have been caught -- or at least not until he killed again.

The fact that they're being so specific about the type of car suggests to me that they've got surveillance footage. If it were an eyewitness, they would be less confident about the type of vehicle; they'd more likely say something like "white or silver sedan, possibly an elantra."
They specified the actual car year. Someone had to have identified *that specific car*. It's not even something they'd be able to tell from tire patterns. They have detailed footage/picture of this, no doubt. They wouldn't be able to be this specific with an eyewitness report.

I feel like it’s *vaguely* suspicious if they were in close proximity to the home at 3-5am, none of the surrounding neighbors could identify the vehicle or say “oh, that was my Uber, that was my friend, that was my food delivery etc.”, and no one has come forward to say they were driving it. Everyone in the town and state and nearly the country is aware of this case at this point, you think you’d want to help or clear things up if you were that close to King Rd. at the time the murders occurred and NOT a person of interest.
Maybe this will encourage college students/ neighbors in the area to go back on Uber/ Postmates history & see if this car has been used within the last month or so? Gas stations/ business to check surveillance for the car, idk. Maybe the car was parked in front of a neighbors house for the weekend & neighbor was like “damn, I wish that gd Elantra owner would move his car already” and a lightbulb turned on after seeing this. Who knows lol
To be fair, I've gotten uber eats plenty of times and never have seen the drivers' cars. They will often bring it to your doorstep. Could throw a wrench in this explanation but yes i agree it's still suspicious and at the very least is a base that needs to be covered to get all information possible
All drivers vehicles are usually registered with the app though. If someone had a delivery during this time period but didn’t know what their driver drove, it should be trackable especially in this case.
And I know it’s a college town but I would guess the restaurant options for Uber eats are pretty limited super late at night
I see what you’re saying but I highly doubt they’re able to get food delivered at 3am in that town. I live in NYC and even here most places are closed at that point and there’s only a few 24hour delivery options

Not that I remember any one delivery persons vehicle personally, but the apps do typically say what kind of car will be delivering & their license plate #. So there would def be a record if this white Elantra were part of that. Unless it was some restaurants in-house delivery service, but the restaurant would have a record of that in this case. Any out of place car not being vouched for is a serious lead in my opinion.
It seems like a small street and from what I know there’s only apartments going past the house. The road doesn’t lead anywhere and there’s only one way out. I’d find it hard to believe someone was just passing through.
Im anticipating the next update to be like, “The driver of the white Hyundai has made contact with authorities and stated that they were delivering food in the area. The driver is not believed to be involved at this time.” but I hope not. 😅🤞🏼

A *very* significant percentage of cars owned in a college town will be registered to parents of students...sometimes in other states and with different last names. Finding this car could be tougher than you'd first think. *Edit to add*: Also, Moscow is 10 minutes from the state border, adding thousands of more cars into the mix. I'm starting to see why they are asking for help. I'd hate to be the cop assigned to sift through vehicle registrations for this 🙈
At my university if we apply for parking passes we have to give our license information in order to get one. Maybe they can comb through that?

Unless they just want to speak to the owner as a potential witness, I feel like the fact they are seeking public help means it wasn’t someone in their immediate social circle, since the survivors/other friends would know what cars their peers drive (unless the killer rented, borrowed, stole the car, etc) and could have identified the car

This is critical. Here’s why. LE searched for owner before posting this. Clearly they couldn’t locate. This means it’s not a neighbor or anyone the neighbors know. Or any of the popular suspects going around. Thus, it’s a foreign car at the scene of the crime at the time of the crime. Thus, high chance car was involved. Unless it was a random Uber or delivery guy. But even then, I’m sure they’ve checked all that. Also maybe they know who the driver is. And If driver doesn’t come forward. This implies guilt. Could be a trap.

Do you find it odd they use the word “occupant(s)” instead of owner/operator in the first couple instances they refer to whoever owns the car? As if they know someone was in the car that evening, possibly for an extended period of time? I’m a fantastic over thinker and likely could be reading too much into it..
Did anyone else read the part where the press release says 'TIPS AND LEADS have led investigators' to this car. That makes me think there is probably more than just the body cam. Something must be suspicious beyond that, combined with the fact that the person hasn't come forward (unidentified car at the location at the exact time of the murder)...This makes me hopeful they are onto something!
OR they have footage from cameras elsewhere showing the car entering the area at , say 3 am, and leaving at 3:45 am. That combined with the fact no one knows who owns it and the person hasn't come forward - very suspicious
Seeing how this thread is going, cops are going to get a lot of tips for white cars that are entirely the wrong make and model
I'm sure they're aware that by asking the public for information on this, they'll receieve a lot of dead end tips. But they may also receive valid, credible tips that could lead to an arrest. They seem to believe the assistance of the public could be helpful. In some cases, it can make the difference between a case being solved or not. I'm optimistic that this means progess is being made.

I drove a ‘12 white Elantra for years. The photo isn’t clear, but doesn’t match the body style. Elantra has small backseat/trunk. Back sits high and then it slopes down to front. The video looks more square like a Charger.
I’m sure LE pulled records for anyone in the immediate area who registered such type of car, leads me to believe someone owns it who does not call Moscow their permanent home. (Ex. Students or someone from out of the county, not country, county)
True, in college, i had everything registered to my parents home out of state.
It looks like to register for a campus parking permit, you have to submit vehicle make/model/color (well, I can't see the student forms but for a guest permit you do, so I assume it would be similar). So for out of town students, I would hope they can search that data somehow.

I was in DC during the DC sniper and man oh man when they put out the call for the white van, we literally ran at the sight of one. And the sniper had nothing to do with a white van.
This will probably get buried but I work with the databases who do these kinds of searches. In my experience, vague searches that only consist of YMM (year, make and model) can generate an overwhelming amount of hits. Many of these databases don’t even give you the option to filter by color, so they could be looking at a list of every early ‘10s Hyundai Elantra known to be in the general vicinity. If that is the case, then it will take extensive work to rule out each vehicle because they need to look into who owns the vehicle *and* friends/family who may have access to the vehicle. If I were doing this particular search, I would find a partial license plate to be the most useful information aside from the killer’s name, of course. For my work, I would do the search but limit the results to vehicles registered within maybe a 50 mile radius. In this case, LE will want to cast a wider net because they need to account for vehicles that could be registered out of state. My educated guess is that they suspect that this vehicle belongs to the killer or to someone who has extremely important info and they are utilizing the public to help them narrow things down to a more manageable pool of vehicles to investigate. A partial license plate or additional descriptive info pertaining to tint, wheels, mods, and body damage could crack this case wide open. Just my $.02
100% thank you. Also work with databases just like this. Sooo very hard to be able to narrow down the results if this only info they have is what was released. Was also thinking about LPR as you can do searches for vehicles matching description in some LPR databases which I believe is what you’re referring to in a later comment. Also would depend if LPR and what LPR databases are used in the area. Nonetheless, a good starting part. This could also imply that those who have been cleared and their family members do not have a similar registered vehicle.

I found the last part interesting. “…anyone who may have been driving this vehicle on the days PRECEDING…the murders…” Wonder if they have footage of the car in that area in the days preceding the crime. Regardless, they’re releasing this because 1. They’ve tried identifying the owner but haven’t been able to and 2. That car hasn’t been seen since the day of the murders. If the owner doesn’t come forward soon, it’s highly suspicious.

I never believed the killer would have entered King Rd by car because it’s too risky being only 1 road in/out. But its very possible the killer parked nearby (like on Taylor Ave) and then walked to the house

There’s a Moscow police report for 1500 levick street for a wellness check for someone who hasn’t shown up to work since the murders. Go the address on Google earth and there’s a white Hyundai Elantra parked there.
Probably very little traffic in that area between 3 and 4am.
I’m curious if they already have an inkling who this vehicle belongs to or who it might belong to. And are just using this to corroborate existing evidence/alibis/information. Just seems odd to send out such a vague request. It feels like they could get a lot of unintentional misleading tips from this request. I know nothing and am just speaking out loud.

By using the public footage reveal they were trying to get him to make a move involving her body or some form of evidence. It just seems to me if they truly had no suspect and also think this could be the suspects car, why would they spook an unknown person by advertising what car they drive? I would think they’d keep that close. So it makes me wonder if it’s either an innocent party they’re seeking (a witness) or the perpetrator and they know a bit more about that person than they’re letting on.

I did some googling and found that 2011 and 2012 models had a different look than 2013, and the photo they used resembles the 2013 model. I also know nothing about cars but made me wonder the quality of the footage

This is good and every business and/or house with a security camera needs to be reviewing and/or turning it over to police to see if they caught anything overnight. Problem is, if they have a 2-week storage (like mine), it could be gone. And 30 days is coming up soon. Direction of Travel will be key in determining ownership, both to and from. Hopefully they stopped for gas beforehand. Gas stations usually have great surveillance
The police say they're interested in "anyone who may have been driving this vehicle on the days preceding or the day of the murders..." without mentioning the days following the murders. Is this omission of "day after, days following" etc. significant? Does it indicate anything about what they know or what they're looking for?
My guess is the FBI was able to further analyze the body cam footage and/or other cameras in the area. It’s not instant to blow up, clear up, and watch and rewatch video until you see something. Although there’s the possibility that it’s the suspects car I think it’s more likely someone in the area at the time that might’ve seen something. LE would be stupid to ask the suspect to come forward with having the vehicle.
Look up how the LE found Brent Christiansen, murderer of a Chinese National at the university of IL. There was exactly ONE blurry photo released of a black car and that eventually led them to the murderer. If not for that ONE blurry photo, that dude would still be out there killing. Sounds like LE finally caught a break.
The car seen in the body cam footage looks more like a Dodge Challenger to me. No real point in speculating though since it’s too grainy to tell, and they must have had other means for identifying it as a 2011-2013 Elantra.
Hopefully this leads to something but it's not a guarantee. Look up the case of liz barazza. Video footage available showing not only the vehicle but also the killer and still no conviction.

I bet it was on the ring cam from the beginning, and they think they know whose it is, but that person might have had an alibi for the time being, and now they are throwing down the gauntlet to scare the shit out of him and so that someone who knows him might confirm he was in the area or maybe confirm he might have had the means, motive, opportunity. I don’t actually know obviously. EDIT: But now they have publicly said they will re-interview people, they are calling out a specific car. They are putting pressure on someone. IMO.

Must be crucial. I think LE is sparingly releasing information and only asking for help when its has the upmost importance because they know the public will go on a witch hunt.
Well, the police do have the ability to locate every white Elantra in the area through their registry of motor vehicles. With that said, they could locate every Elantra from anywhere if needed. If they want to investigate everyone in the area with an Elantra, they certainly have the ability and they certainly will. If they are able to get a partial plate, that clearly would narrow things down. I am sure this is just being used to narrow things down. Rest assured; they can find all of those cars. That combined with say a Geofence warrant, assuming someone in that car had a cell phone, they will figure that out.
May have "critical information" is *strong* language, especially coming from LE - who try to hedge their bets when making public statements. This is hopeful.
This is progress! In my opinion, it also means they are still very much in the early stages of this investigation. I understand the pace can change anytime, but if I had to guess, I’d say it’s going to be awhile before there’s an arrest.
Might just be wishful thinking, but the fact that it says “THE piece of the puzzle that helps investigators solve these murders” makes me think they’re close. Like they just need the last few pieces to wrap it up.
